Several times in the past(when I just got the phone, and then when loading some ROMs) I've come across a Wifi calling bug where Wifi calling app gets stuck in "Enabling..." and doesn't work. Some say it's the SIM card, Tmo themselves acknowledged the problem but had no solution for me except for the new SIM card.
I believe I've stumbled on a workaround. The key is to use the getRIL app from the Market(Google Play now) and use it to force a mismatch between the baseband and RIL. That's right, update to a non-matching RIL. It has worked for me twice so far with no ill effects that I can tell. Hope this helps someone.

For the complete fix, if your SIM card has a number of TM9177 it needs to be replaced with an older version, number TM9073, this information came from the Support Group at the T-Mobile Forum. There is a known issue with the 9177 card and WiFi Calling. Also it has been reported that WiFi Calling works on the new Gingerbread 2.3.4 no matter which SIM card you have.
I have the newer TM9177 sim and it works with wifi callling on cm7 based roms but only if I use v20c RIL. The cm9 based Roms are not reliable(for me) for wifi calling but the AOKP ics based roms work with wifi callling and v20c

I am having problems with Wifi and the new 2.3.4 update. I found this thread and looked to see what SIM card I have.... TM9177!
What is the most compatible with this SIM card? Should I be using the older baseband?
v20c RIL??? What ICS roms use this?
Edit: There seem to be different versions of the TM9177. I have another TM9177 and it clearly looks different. The one that works seems to be a revision.
I have the 9073 SIM (bought my phone May 2011), but have never been able to get any ICS rom to work properly with WiFi Calling.
Granted I was always on the July 2011 baseband and V21e RIL.
On the flipside of that, no gingerbread ROM has ever given me trouble at all with it. I tried the 2.3.4 official update (without updating my baseband) and WiFi Calling worked just fine on that as well.
For daily use I have found CM7-based 2.3.7 ROMs to be the most stable all-around though.

I've completely lost 3G ability on my NS, and I'm not sure what happened.
Here's my order of tweaks:
CM7 nightly (with 3G)
MIUI (with 3G)
ICS rom from SDK (no more 3G!)
ICS from kwiboo (no 3G)
ICS from koush (no 3G)
CM7 stable (no 3G)
I guess sometime during my playtime with the ICS from SDK build, something messed something up and subsequently I cannot get 3G anymore, regardless of ROM.
I'm not sure where even to begin troubleshooting.
- Yes, "use only 2G networks" is unchecked
- My APN should be correct, as they are the ones that loaded automatically from the ROMs. That has always worked before
Anyone have any ideas? I'm desperate for help. I haven't had 3G for what feels like a month!
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19424857 in this post there is a link to the radios try flashing one of those to see if that fixes things. If not try flashing a stock unrooted rom and start over
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
You know what? A new radio worked! I don't know why I didn't think of it before. Seems so easy in hindsight.
This brings up another interesting thing. Seems like a lot of the radios that used to give me 3g don't give it to me anymore, including the most popular ones people are using. That's weird...
edit: Actually, no radio issues anymore. My old radio gets 3g again, as well as others. I just needed to rotate the radio versions a few times and reboot a few more times and it fixed itself. Totally weird, but no more problems!
I had the same issue on AT&T 2 nights ago. It turned out that it was an AT&T network issue which was confirmed by tech. support.
Personally, I will start with $10. If this gets popular, I will setup a Paypal for people to submit to. Right now just want to see who's interested.
Want to get wifi calling working and supported on MIUI builds regardless of old or new Sim card.
$30 pledged so far!!
If nothing else hopefully we'll find out if it's possible or not. Since MIUI is based off Cm7, I don't see why not.
Thanks,
Derek

yes and read the thread and tell me how many people comment on the fact that it doesn't work. I've had it work once for a couple hours but did a reboot on my phone and lost it, never seen it since on MIUI. Tried three different MIUI roms built by different people, and none of them had wifi calling working.
it's been stated multiple times that it seems to be phone related issue (aka hardware). for most people it works but for some it doesn't due to phone specific issues.

Are you using an older simcard or the one that came with when you got your g2x?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Wifi calling has always worked for me on Whitehawx's builds, even after many reboots. Guess I'm lucky.
WiFi calling never worked properly for me on any ROM other than OEM (T-Mobile)
It works on CM, but every time I leave the house, my phone disconnects from WiFi and connects to 3G, but I have no bars displayed. Phone/data works, but bars are not displayed. In order to see reception bars, I have to reboot my phone, or I can go to WiFi calling app, select to use "WiFi Only", wait till it disconnects from 3G, and change it back to "WiFi preferred".
As for MIUI ROM, I was never able to make it work.
Keep this thread alive, perhaps we can "occupy" T-Mobile and request them to release WiFi Calling app to the market.
I really think the wifi issue has to do with the sim card i have used almost every rom and a few kernel and i never had an issue with wifi my sim is about 6 yr old

I'm having trouble understanding what Wifi Calling has to do with the Sim Card..
i have the old sim card from like 2008 or something and i reboot my phone a lot and it still works i do hard reboots , battery pull etc and it still works

He says it works but it does not. Phone number comes up as unknown in status, which is part of the problem.

T-mobile's Wifi Calling app does not work on the G2x using some newer SIM cards. This is ROM independent. It is a known issue. T-mobile's customer service will acknowledge the problem, offer a replacement SIM card, but they do not have real solution since the SIM replacement will be of the newer variety.
I think it has something to do with a change they made in wifi calling for their newer phones (Amaze and SGSII), which did not support wifi calling at all until these newer cards were released.
Since Wifi calling is important to me, I just placed my newer SIM card in my wife's GalaxyS 4g and placed her older SIM card in my phone. Her phone handles the newer SIM just fine. And mine works great with the older.
See this thread:

I wonder if this is the real issue behind difficulty people are having with MIUI? Are those of you having issues with wifi-calling in MIUI able to get wifi calling to work using a stock ROM?
Mine works on cm7 100% of time period. It is sparatic on miui on a good day with hardly ever working. With that said, it cannot be a hardware issue or even sim card issue. It is a miui problem....

My wifi calling works fine on any stock Rom and also works fine on Cm7... it has never worked on MIUI. It tells me invalid Sim, and my phone # shows up as unknown in settings.
Wifi calling is the *first* thing I check on any Rom. Thanks to the lousy reception my G2X gets, I was constantly dropping calls at home until I enabled wifi calling.
I can honestly say that wifi calling rarely ever worked for me on MIUI. If it ever did...a reboot would kill it. I got my sim card with my phone when I got it.

I'll concur; i have flashed virtually every rom available for the G2X and all have had wifi calling except MIUI. I used to flash the latest MIUI every Saturday, but phone number was never recognized and sim is always invalid. It is the sim that came with the phone... I have no option for an older one. Since I have zero bars at home wifi calling = calling for me.

I have been struggling with the baseband locking up and makes the phone stop receiving and sending calls and sms.
On a hunch I disabled HSPA (2G data only) two days ago and it haven't happened since. This was on cyanogenmod nightly. I missed out on some key issues from the original ROM so tonight I installed ThaiZ ROM. Will report if I get the same success with this.
This is not a good solution but a working phone is more important to me than fast data. Until LG releases new baseband I will turn on high speed and reboot afterwards when I need fast network access.
I did this quite a while ago and it's a proven working method.
Reports say that the official 21B solved this issue, which is due to the way phone.apk handles network switching.

I'm using the stock V21B and I haven't had any network issues with it.
I have posted to this forum information that took my a lot of googling and reading to find, regarding WiFi calling - that WiFi calling will not work on certain SIM cards, and will work on older versions.
Some did went and replaced their SIM, but not sure if they have updated their threads.
Do we now know anything new on this issue? WiFi calling is very important to me because TMobile reception in my house is week, and I loose calls a lot without it.
Currently running MIUI ROM with no WiFI calling pre-installed on this build, but used Weapon for a long time and WiFi calling did NOT work.
I will chose any ROM that has WiFi calling working.
Thanks!

Hi people,
So here is the thing. I brother gave me a D820 purchased in the USA and I was using it just fine until one fine day, it stopped seeing my network. It supports the GSM frequencies at 2G and 3G but it isn't even discovering the network.
On Vodafone India - Now, even when I do a manual search, my network isn't visible. It was working fine earlier but it just isn't now. I have tried everything from reflashing the whole thing, to trying out a custom ROM like CyanogenMod, including the CAF builds.
I have also tried flashing the old radio and that didn't help either.
On Airtel - What is funnier is that I used another network's SIM card and it seemed to be working perfectly for a few days and then the same problem appeared there too. Only this time, it was seeing the network, only wasn't registering on to it. It couldn't be a network issue because the same SIM card worked perfectly on another device.
Request any help to resurrect my paperweight Nexus 5 into being useful again.
Thanks in advance!

So you need to give more infomation. A lot of the stuff you're saying is pointless for example (I also tried flashing the ld radio???) there are a lot of radios for the nexus 5. (reflashing the whole thing???) what ROM were you on? what kernel? when and how did it stop working? what were you doing?
Be happy I replied lol it seems like you wrote the post in one big panic of a mess. so go ahead now.

You're right. I was in a state of panic.
The problem just happened. There was no reason for it, nothing. It just stopped detecting my network.
I have tried the following builds. And radios from these build separately, because as I understand, there were some WIFI issues with Lollipop to begin with:
1. KTU84P
2. LRX21O
3. LMY47I
More pointless info: Apart from these I have also tried the latest CyanogenMod 12.1 NIGHTLY (cm-12.1-20150419-NIGHTLY) with the CAF kernel and the standard CyanogenMod 12.1 AOSP NIGHTLY build.
what ROM were you on? - I was on stock KTU84P when the network stopped getting any sort of detection from the device.
what kernel? - Stock kernel that accompanied the above ROM. The phone was not even BL-Unlocked or rooted.
when and how did it stop working? - The when is a week ago. The how is a mystery.
what were you doing? - Nothing. I just woke up in the morning and found that my device has no service. Then I tried a manual network search and my network wouldn't show up. It works perfectly on other devices, the SIM card that is.
So, now I have a phone that doesn't work on my network.

My wife's Nexus 5 D820 has the same issue. Network worked fine on 4/13/2015, but zero network service the next day, 4/14/2015.
Did your problem happen on the same day? Are you on StaighTalk also?
Her phone was on stock software and still locked. Tried everything and figured it's a problem with the phone since putting my sim card in her phone didn't fix the problem. The phone detects sim cards and their registered phone #s, but zero network service. My guess is the cell antenna hardware broke.
We bought a different phone. Wish we could fix it! It would be nice to fix this Nexus 5 that functions fine except no cell service.

Hey, I have the EXACT same problem. My Nexus 5 wont detect the Vodafone network in India! I tried all kinds of stuff - flashing the original stock rom, factory reset - nothing worked. All other networks are working fine. The same vodafone sim that wont work in the nexus is working absolutely fine in other phones. I am at my wits end - did you find any solution to this yet? Please let me know.
I have also been facing the same problem on vodafone.50% of the time i am unable to make or receive calls even when signal is present and if the call connects the call receiver cant hear me.The problem is also present in al the other ROMs and rradios i have tried.
