I'm a complete n00b at rooting and hacking on Android and the HTC Inspire is the first Android phone I've ever had. I've searched the forum and tried loading PD98IMG.zip files, using the HBOOT recovery, but I'm still having a nasty problem with my Inspire 4G. I'd really like any help if I can get it - I think I've been sweating bullets for the last 2 hours...
Here's the rundown of what happened:
I rooted my Inspire 4G this morning using the Ace Hack Kit and everything was working fine until I tried CyanogenMod7. After that, I somehow managed to get it all working again, but didn't end up liking Cyanogen because various programs (such as Android Market) kept crashing. I switched to the TPC Inspire 4G ROM, and everything was peachy again. However, I wanted to try and get the completely stock version of the Inspire ROM, and loaded that onto the phone. I noticed that it was missing the ROMmanager, so I ran Ace Hack Kit again. This is where the huge problem happened. While reloading the older version of the ROM (I think it was doing the radio), everything went black on the phone screen, and stayed that way. The terminal screen (I'm running OS X) didn't show any progress, so I rebooted the phone. Now, the phone starts up with the white HTC screen, then fades to black and stays that way. You can tell the screen is on because the backlight is there, but otherwise, I'm stuck.
I'm currently trying to re-run the Ace Hack Kit, but the terminal says that the device is offline, then sits at < waiting for device >. I've tried re-flashing to the original HTC ROM from the website, but it doesn't detect that the device is even attached to the computer.
If you can help, that would be great! I've had this phone for 3 days, and I'm freaking out that I've just destroyed it.
Just an update - I tried a hard reset (power + vol up + vol down) and I get the green LED on, and the phone vibrates 3 times, then it sits there with the green LED indicator and nothing happening to the screen.
Do a search for un-brick. I dont have an Inspire, but on my Infuse there are a few different ways to return to stock and also to un brick. And once you get it fixed calm down on all the rom switching maybe? I mean u said 3 days and you were flippin through em then attempted a stock rom then another Ace Hack. My advice is slow down, take a deep breath and read the forums. Do this before you make moves. Good luck buddy.

Did you not backup, b4 you tried flashing another rom? If u did, just hold ur volume down button and hit ur power button... should go into bootloader (hboot). Once there select the recover option. If you havent backed up, I belive theres a recovery you can download. I just had that same problem while trying to get to hboot, was just a user error.... take ur time and dont worry, I dont belive ur fully bricked.

Your mistake was trying to root again once you saw rom manager was missing. Rom manager is an app you can download from the market. Not every dev includes it in their roms. Go back to the hack kit thread, look in the op, and join his irc. He will help you.

Unfortunately, I did not do a backup - I'll try and look for another recovery ROM. Did you have any trouble with the HBOOT not finding the PD98DIAG.zip file? It seems like HBOOT is not seeing the PD98IMG file either... I have the PD98IMG zip file in the root directory of my SD card too.
Thanks for the support - I'll need it...

Thanks - I talked with attn1, who wrote the hack kit, and he walked me through the process. Basically, I had to get the stock version of the PD98IMG.zip, which he provided.
Then, I followed the following steps (all typing is in terminal (I'm on Mac OS X):
1. Type: fastboot oem rebootRUU
2. The Inspire 4G went to a black screen with a chrome HTC logo.
3. Type: fastboot erase cache
4. Once that completes (the message says: erasing 'cache'... OKAY), type: fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
5. That command flashes the Inspire 4G with the stock ROM. The phone will display the chrome HTC logo and a progress bar. Once it completes IN THE TERMINAL with the status OKAY, then type: fastboot reboot
6. Voila! HTC Inspire 4G is back to working condition. This method returned the phone back to stock mode, which means if you want to install custom ROMs and such again, you'll need to root it. Make sure to set the USB debugging on, and Connect to PC to Charging Only.
Thanks, attn1! Hope this will help others who get into this problem case.
Get the official ruu from htc. After that don't update and use simple root, this is better since if you brick it again you can go to fast boot and flash it back to inspire 4g rooted

I had the same exact problem the same exact way lol...Thanks i was starting to get worried
Go to th IRC forums an they can get you unjammed

I had this same problem (goes black and vibrates 3 times- except with a orange blinking light) before.
To fix it:
1. Completely shut down, remove the battery, and put a timer on for 10 minutes
2. Remove your microSD card from your phone, and put it in a card adapter for your computer
3. Put a ROM installer .zip on your microSD.
4. After 10 minutes is up, put your microSD in your phone, and turn it on
5. Go into H-BOOT, and select boot to recovery
6. Install by selecting the .zip let it do its thing
Hope that helped!

hink that I may have soft bricked my inspire, I installed gbsense and decided that I didn't like it. so I went to cwr recovery to restore my old rom, and it came up with a red ! I had a total noob moment and not remembering that I just needed to hit Vol up + power I assumed it was CWR and reverted to an old build. Now it won't start at all. I can get into the vol down - power screen but that it's. I need some help
Read the sticky in the Inspire general section, "stuck in hboot read this".

I tried that, vol up- power makes my phone buzz three times and the led flashes and locks up there Have to pull the battery, so I'll need to do the 256 meg pre rooted s-off version
I was hoping there was an easier way but thanks
Its volume down and power. Like I mention in the guide I recommend reflashing cwr first, so you can restore a backup or go straight to a custom rom
As you have found out, flashing that rom sets recovery back to factory.
Just so that the phone off charge animation is present.
Flashing cwm recovery through hboot should set you right up.
Long story short my inspire was in the middle of being rooted and was stuck between. Phone dropped and unplugged. Screen is stuck on HTC logo and then fades to black screen with one line. I can get to the recovery menu but am having no luck from there. I have the usual from this menu and have tried all I know of. Tried to go through rooting again and when I press 1 on the hack ace menu it says device offline. Any ideas. I have been googling and checking forums all day and have not found anything much about it. I need help bad.

Did you try using the Ubuntu live cd method? It really is the most reliable method.
So my brother has a HTC Inspire 4G from AT&T and we rooted it with Advance Ace Root Kit, and in the middle of installing root, there was something with a qualcomm cdma driver and it said no drivers found. Then the ace root kit just froze on "waiting for device" and it just stuck there. So I pulled the cord and closed it but now the phone wont restart and it wont go into HBOOT either, when i plug it into the charger or USB, it starts and goes into clock work recovery on it's own, but if i unplug it and boot it by itself, it vibrates exactly 3 times and the led flashes orange. The screen is just black. How do i fix this? HELP!!
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

It seems as though you have an incompatible or corrupt boot image. If you can get a Rom onto your sd card you can try to install it from recovery.
If you need help with the steps, let me know.
Not just a pretty Pickle.
Hey guys my Father in Law gave me his Razr HD. He never rooted it. But one day after he sent what ended up being this device's final text, the device acted weird and all apps started closing. Then the phone shut down and never started again. So I have it and I used to root, and I thought I would give it a shot. All I can do is get to the recovery where you can factory reset etc.. Even after a factory reset, the phone gets stuck on the stock Moto logo boot screen. Is there something I can do to revive this device? It's only like 2 years old and I thought this would be a great spare device incase I EFF up my Droid Turbo 2. Anyway any help or a good point in the right direction would be appreciated.
What I've done so far
1. held the power and vol down button to get to the android/triangle then held power and vol up to get to recovery and try factory reset.
2. called verizon tech support to see if I could get the OG firmware
3. researched the net for a guy that I once sent a bricked devie to like in Texas or something and he unbricked it... I think he or it was called j-dax or something along that line.
4. posted this thread
5. continuing research on how I can fix it myself or find that guy!
Yes I posted this in the Motorola forum as well, but that thread seems to not be used that much and was hoping I could double up and get some help from you all =)
