So here's the skinny... I want to edit a .png icon (from the circlelauncher app)
How do I do that? Do I have to pay for an app that has that feature, because all of the ones that I've found so far that CAN edit it are paid... I suppose I could download an aftermarket/cracked apk, but I'd rather not.
Suggestions? Literally I just want to add text to the middle of a red circle icon.

GIMP 2.6

Paint.net
Much better then gump. Theres no icon edit program. U need a photo/art edit create program
Adpbe photoshop and paint.net are probobly the best 2.
Gimp is good to buy not for a noob.
I should have specified, something I can do from my phone or Tablet. I'm away from my computer for a while (traveling), customization helps kill time between meetings, lol

Photo editor is also good. For on phone. Dont try to edit .9.pngs on your phone though.
They reqire draw9patch. Or the ability to zoom in like 800 percent to see the border pixels
They have a 1 pixel border that u must not touch or it will corrupt them.
Can't get the backgrounds to stay transparent. Very frustrating.
Sent from my SGH-I727R using XDA
If you use the erase tool. In paint.net it actually makes what ever you erase fully transparent.
And u can scale it any size u want. I have some transparent images i made i can post if u need and u can resize them on phone with photo editor
Here ya go.........
Thanks, but I still couldn't get it to go. Finally achieved the desired result by importing the .png into uccw and adding text, then using the png I created there as my icon in WL, lol.
End result : (the little circles are the ones I was trying to add text to)

Hello,
I prefer to use Sib Icon Editor to make small icons and image files.

So I've be thinking about this program for a while. Basically this is a desktop app that will apply your desk clock theme, optimize the pngs, make you a flashable zip and then zip align it all with one click.
All you have to do is change the clock's png files to what you want ( don't change the sizes), and then run the clock_themer.jar and the work is done, unless copying the file to your sdcard and flashing it is considered work.
Everything is provided, all the clock's pngs are in the zip file just download and unzip the file below and the programs ready to go.
Please tell Me if something doesn't work I'll fix it.
Give me some feed back, as I have future plans for this app
This is for the AOSP DeskClock.apk but it could be changed todo more!
D/L for my_clock_themer
So when your bored like I was today make a new clock with my app!
I might take it a step further and make it so that it will apply a theme to a whole rom but thats later.
Really no one interested in this? I'm surprised.
Can you flash from recovery
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
The program I have as a download is not a flashable program, what it does do though is allow you to make changes to the deskclock.apk and them makes the flashable zip for you.
Its a desktop app much like apk manager but easrier to use (but does less). When you unzip it to your computer you will see that the deskclock.apk is in the folder along with a folder of all the pngs that make the clock. You can alter those pngs and run my program and then you have a flashable zip (my_themed_clock_signed.zip) ready with your newly themed clock.
All you have to do is change the png and run the program and you have a new clock, your clock themed how you want.
I will try it out 2morrow i am still at work

Finally lol, thank you.
Just unzip it to your desktop and go into the clock_pngs folder. Then change the appwidget_clock_dial.png in your favorite paint program (gimp?) and then double click the clock_themer.jar (wait a second or so) and bam you have a new my_themed_clock_signed.zip folder with your changes.
Tell me how its goes.
very nice idea will check it out after lunch.. thanks

No thank you please tell me how it works for you. This might turn into a theme injecter, where youd be able to extract all the pngs from a rom and change then and then add them back. The program would do the dirty work.
would this do text colors also.??? like the ones on screen saver mode..???
This only themes your clock widget it was essentially my test program for my theme injector....your draw the pics and run the program and it will theme the clock for you.

Off of memory I think its the clockopia.ttf font in \system\fonts\ of your rom. If you take a font from your computer and rename it to clockopia.ttf and replace it then it should change your lock screen font.
You could also use the font flasher thats float around here, it come with several fonts.

Hi. I was wondering, is there any way to mod the window that pops up when you click on the widget? I want to get some sharp corners and a black/gray bg.

need help
right ive opened up the apk theres no relevent png's so i guess the colours etc are in xml's how do i set it to transparent and move it to bottom of screen?
I know it's not what you want to hear, but...
You could purchase Folder Organizer (paid app by the same dev). It has same functionality but with more options, like changing the backgrounds of the folders, changing app icons, and you can add shortcuts, contacts, bookmarks, etc to folders.
Just a suggestion. It's the best app I've ever bought, and the couple of bucks has to be worth the time of changing the xml files.
Sorry I couldn't offer a better answer, but if you want to just change Apps Organizer I'm sure you need to figure out where the values are in the xml & change it accordingly.
Sent from my badass HTC Supersonic (Evo 4g) using XDA Premium App
Folder Organizer uses the panel_background.9.png file from the system framework res drawables folder. That's why it's not in the apk. In order to change the look, you have replace this file with the modded panel_background.9.png file you want to use in your framework.apk. However, because you're modding the panel_background.9 file, it will be like this for ANY apk that also accesses this 9.png file. But that's what you need to do if you really want to mod the backgound to have sharp corners.
I can't find it under root explorer

so i edited all .9pngs with gimp and didnt rename files, do i have to use the draw9patch an recompile them?
an if i do where do i put black markers at or can i just draw the patch all the way around?
You don't necessarily have to use draw9patch (see link here) I personally would because it's much much easier to see how the image will stretch.
As for where you put the black boarder's, check out some youtube videos on it - search "draw9patch tutorial" or "9 pngs android" to see it in action.
Right, and bottom are for input or content, and left/top define whats stretchable. At least that's what I believe it is haha,
Currently MIA for a few weeks - Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
You need to take the .9 off before you edit with gimp. Then use draw9 for the patch work. There is a compiler for .9's in the Droid forums that I used to use; it works really well.

Hi guys,
It could seem a strange answer but I have deleted all the pre-imposted sketches on s-memo and I remember they were all drawn on different backgrounds (White stripes, blank white, yellow notepad, etc.). Now when I open a new file I can only draw on yellow squared background. Does any of you know how to choose a different background? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Open settings with the memo open.
Change background.
Profit.
Swyped from the white galaxy, 2 stars to the left.
There is no such option as change background!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Except there is! Sorry and thanks for your help!
Found the Cause... Changing the dpi makes it like that... so If you have changed the dpi..Make sure u download the modded s -memo app from xda and push it. No more lines then!
create a new memo go into the options and it has change background, you get a choice of 8
Anyone know where the memo background image files are stored? Or how to import your own files?

seems to be inside smemo.apk, in one of res/drawable-* folders
better info to could be probably found in modded smemo thread (for DPI's 200, 220 etc.)
The goal is to be able to change small things in some apps.
For example, there is an app called SnapChat which allows you to send a picture for 3 seconds and then closes the picture. In this scenario, I would like to be able to edit the .apk file to allow to stay for 4 seconds. Would this kind of this be possible?
How so?
Um....you can do this within the app.....stock....

most apps are customizable. there are threads over in android general/hacking specifically about this topic.

You can change alot of things in apps just by playing around with them. Using Apktool or another decompiling tool, you can change alot in the res/values folders Theres alot of stuff you can play around with in the various xml files

So you are saying I can't decompile or recompile apks on my phone? I have to use adb to push/pull and then use a program to decrypt the XML then I can change the values to what I want?

You're gonna have to adb push/pull unless you build your own ROM.
You can get apktool from here: https://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/

You can swap out images but you definitely can't change app settings like animations and such without the right tools and procedures.

use 7zip on your computer to swap out png's. change app's name from whatever.apk to whatever.zip then move it to your computer using 7zip open the archive. don't extract or unzip. navigate to res folder and open it. find the png files you want to change and insert your png files you want. make sure they are the correct size, in the correct format (png) and are named correctly. exactly as they are in the zip file. then close the zip transfer it back to your phone and rename back to whatever.apk i do suggest doing some more research before doing this. there are a lot of threads dedicated just for this. use the search engine at the top of the page. XDA provides it for this exact reason.
