Manually update to march basehand.. - T-Mobile LG G2x

SHOWN BASEHAND ON SMARTPHONE: M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 JUL 15 2011 10:00
Sooo basically Ive been 2 days in a row now with no possible answer to get this done (I even installed a Windows XP partition to try and fix it, no results).
I always get the "Your phone is updated to the newest software" message, although I have the 2.2 froyo on the cellphone, and what I want is the 2.3.4 March basehand to update my smartphone.
I downloaded the drivers, I downloaded the .kdz file, I downloaded the LG support tool, I downloaded the software update tool from KDZ, everything in order, and the steps I follow are the next ones (please tell me if Im doing something wrong).
1.- I open the Software update tool.
2.- I browse the KDZ file.
3.- Then I click on Read phone information.
4.- Then I click on Upgrade Start.
5.- At this point, it automatically opens the LG support tool and it starts loading.
6.- After a while, it gets completed and I get the same message "The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update.", but I only have the same basehand.
I dont know if Im doing anything wrong, Ive tried with either usb debugging on and off.
Help please, Im dying here...

Follow it exactly. If you look on page 26-28 of the thread that CoreMemory posted about the update there's info there.

Or dont upgrade to baseband, you realized you wont be able to use any other rom.unless You dont use your phone to talk lol kinda defeat the purpose.

Here are the steps, proven to work on windows 7 64 bits

I had the same issue for several hours yesterday. What I found is to open the KDZ updater, select your KDZ file and then click the big button right below it "Launch Software Update"
I searched and searched and searched some more before I finally came across a topic on another site (someone's blog, I think) that gave me these instructions.
Note: You will more than likely see a bunch of errors relating to CDMA, just ignore them.

T-Mobile still sending out the GB OTA?

I could've swore I read they stopped it? If so then is there anyway to flash the phone and be able to get the baseband? My co-worker's phone keeps rebooting, etc. I don't want to use the LG Update Tool. I bricked my phone and finally got it unbricked after 5 hours.
you are right T-Mobile already stopped rolling out the OTA.
Your only opportunity to get the new baseband is the LG tool

I used the LG tool about an hour after the update was relesed and it went perfectly smooth. What I did was a factory reset before I did it and I dont know if that mattered but I had no problems. I would do it you really have no choice. I thought I read somewhere that someone is working on a version that you can install from SD but I might be wrong and I dont think you will get the new baseband which in my opinion is one of the best things about the update. It is the only part you cant just flash. If you root you can install any ROM like the leaked one or whatever. So I would use the LG updater. The other thing is I have the LG updater on my computer and it starts automatically and it says that their servers are undergoing maintenance so you cant use that either. I hope this helps you

There are precautions you can take to prevent a bad experience. Most of them are listed on the Forum somewhere. But to recap,
Stock ROM: Install a stock rom. Root does not impact the update, so being rooted is not an issue. Find the Stock Rom and load it.
Standard recovery: Flash the standard recovery. If you are happy with your current rom, do a nand backup first. Then flash the stock ROM.
Factory reset: Throw this in because it can't hurt.
Many of the people that had problems with the LG updater simply did not meet the above steps.
While doing the update, remember, turn off AV, turn off pop up blockers. Turn off FAX programs or any other monitoring program, even screen savers. Do NOT make assumptions. There are several places in the update where the progress appears to stop. Do NOT disconnect. If you have been stopped for a hour, something is wrong. But a few minutes is not out of line. Personally I stopped at 4% for about 5 minutes...then it continued.
Here's the thread to return your device to stock....its pretty good. I can walk through these steps in less than 5 minutes....its really simple. Set your friend up with this.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088728
In case you're wondering, the thread above will NOT restore to pure factory like condition. It will NOT restore the original baseband. But all the rest works....its easy to use, simple to follow.....and more than anything else, does not require you to think....only follow. The worst problem people have when doing this is thinking, and assuming. Just follow the steps as is, no ad lib.
Good luck.
I've used the LG Updater on 3 phones, and I haven't had any problems.
I followed this page of instructions from the LG website and had no issues. http://wwwstg.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/G2X-Driver/index.jsp
I used my netbook running Windows 7 Starter Edition.

That is only the first time it runs after you install it. Click start and go to "LGMobile Support Tool" and run the "LGMobile Update" program. It should run this time without the bogus server down message. If you look at the dates in that notice, the maintenance was back in July. Be sure to right click the program and run as administrator if you are running Windows 7. Make sure you install the drivers from within the updater also, as the other driver pack on their website doesn't seem to install all the drivers you need to complete the update. Good luck.

I didn't have to run as administrator and I used Windows 7. Following the instructions in the link I posted above I had no issues at all. Drivers were installed separately from the updater, again just following the instructions from that link.
Follow LG's instructions word for word, in order, from start to finish, without skipping any steps, and you shouldn't have any issues.

When you ran the program did Windows have a warning box that said this program wants to make changes to your computer, and you had to say yes or no to allow it to continue. That means the program installer set it to admin mode already and Windows confirms you want to run the app as an admin. Without admin mode in Windows 7, programs that flash roms and such simply don't work properly. Looks like LG mitigated a problem by setting the flag during the program install.

Yea it asks for that confirmation. The one I used is version 1.5.2.2

Videotron 2.2 security update rom - NOT Gingerbread

Edit: It turns out this is a 2.2 security patch update. The rom version number doesn't make sense for a Froyo rom. Sorry guys.
Here is a link for the KDZ file for the new Videotron GB rom. Since it was just released I am assuming it is 2.3.4 but I don't know for sure. Once people install it they can do a Nandroid backup and post the system image for the rest of us to download. I suspect it includes an updated baseband also. Once we get confirmation people can use the KDZ method to update their baseband and then flash back to the rom of their choice. If someone does flash it during the flashing process please copy and save all the extracted rom files in the C:\ProgramData\LGMOBILEAX\Phone directory. The phone subdirectory is created by the KDZ Updater and creates a dll and a wpb file. Then the LG Updater will further extract the wpd file into the files it will flash.

Search for the KDZ method to unbrick a device. Use the same method. I am not going to give you a step by step as that is already in that thread. You can search yourself and find it in the development section.
This is a link to the KDZ method thread:

However, I am confused about this so-called update, as its number is exactly the same version as the stock 2.2.2 Videotron ROM ("LG-P999-AVC-V21d"). Is it really a 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 ROM? I'll try it out but I am skeptical...

The rom designations are done on a carrier by carrier basis based on how many builds LG does before they have a final release. It has nothing to do with any other roms. The previous rom for Videotron was a v11 rom. When LG jumps the number by 10, it is always a newer version of the OS. It should be a GB rom. We just don't know if 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 until someone flashes it.
Ok, tried the update using my trusty XP Mode virtual machine and got a "failed to decode the file you specify" in the KDZ Updater.

Make sure you got a complete download. The file is 181Mb in size. I was able to get the KDZ program to extract the .dll and the .wdb file but after that if a phone is not attached it won't launch the LG Updater.

Where's the original source for the Videotron LG P999 update? I looked around Videotron's website and couldn't find it.
Update
I found it on LG Canada's website: http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp
I phoned LG Canada. The CSR told me that it is not an Android update, it is just a patch for Videotron's LG-P999 phones which have a problem receiving text messages.
I am updating right now.
I am at 4% after 4 .30 minutes. (Will update this post as I go)
Still stuck at 4% after 6.51 minutes

I had that happen to me too when I tried to install the T-Mobile update. After the same problem occurred a few times, I left it at 4% for a while then installed Weapon 3 and it booted with the updated baseband. Apparently, the baseband is the first thing that gets flashed and it may already be installed even though the update is stuck at 4%.

You're half right. But that also makes you half wrong. I'm a computer tech, so I'm familiar with the fact that running something in an emulated environment isn't the exact same thing as running in a real environment. You're running a virtual machine, it's an emulation, not the real thing, programs don't always work the same under emulation versus the real world (for lack of a better term). If this is that big of a deal to you, go find a place, such as a copy shop, where you can run the necessary software from inside XP, either that or set yourself up with a dual boot.

Everything other than flashing the KDZ works under the virtual machine without a hitch, including flashing CWM with the nVidia updater. The problem is with the KDZ file. My phone is detected, no problem, APX drivers installed, the works. I'm not going to type out all the messages that flew by, the process starts but eventually stops. Not a good sign.
Oh, and BTW, I've been working in the IT industry for over 25 years, so I think I have a pretty good understanding what will work or not in a virtualized environment VS native OS, so spare me the condescension.

I really don't care how long you've been in the industry and the IT industry covers a lot so for all we know you could be a networking guru who knows crap about fixing computers but knows networking inside and out.
And if a program absolutely has to be run in XP it sounds more like a failing in the program since most programs have worked better on Windows 7 than they did on XP. But this thread isn't about that.

Since that thread on how to unbrick many moons ago -- People reported that they did in fact get things working in Win7/Vista; It just had a lot lower success rate. People also got it going in XP mode / Virtual environments. So an actual XP machine isn't 100% necessary, it was just the most successful method.

I was just gonna say, I updated my phone to the July 15 baseband using 64-bit Win 7 using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332350
I don't think XP is required at all, it's just a false myth, most people's issues stem from the fact that you need to have a stock ROM for a KDZ file to flash properly (IE you can't update your baseband/flash a .kdz with CM7 installed).
You'd need to follow a guide this like:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274
to flash back to a stock Froyo or Gingerbread ROM, and probably use NVFlash to put stock recovery back on too.
... Perhaps in the future instead of bragging to each other about how much IT experience you have just find a solution to the problem and post that instead...

[Q] Tried to save nearly dead G2x,ended up with WIND V11h, what now?

I tried to update my G2x yesterday via the LG updater tool. Long story short, it froze on the S/W Updating screen and neither T-Mo or LG support could assist in getting it fixed.
I read that it was pretty hard to brick the G2x so I decided to give it an all out effort to resurrect it, especially after the T-Mobile tier two tech support told me there was nothing that could be done, if what he had tried didn't work, the phone was toast. I am just a woman who is more technical than the average woman my age, but I don't mod my phones much in general. I tweak.
I will list what all I have tried, as much in order as I can recall since starting this Friday at noon, don't laugh! (oh the phone is currently working, only 3g and with this Wind ancient looking version)
Flashed CWM on phone (tried all versions at some point in the process)
Totally cleared phone
Tried KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.exe to flash V21E_00 and V21Y_00 Neither would work
Flashed Cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1 Worked, looked beautiful, wifi but no cell service, no baseband, no IMEI
Flashed kdz WIND V11h - everything working but only at 3g
I thought if I got back to something that would put back in a baseband and my IMEI, I could find my way back to the most current update. I can't seem to flash anything new though.
I've tried this :http://forum.xda-developers.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=1149
and this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25321356
Both awesome and helpful posts but I can't get anything other than this V11h!!

I'm by no means an expert -- an advanced amateur, maybe -- but I'll do my best.
What exactly were you trying to update when you bricked the phone? You said you were using the LG updater tool, but what exactly were you trying to do? Was your phone already rooted prior to the attempted update? Had you made any modifications to your phone or were you running stock? That may help us get to the root of your problem.
Are you still able to get into the S/W update screen using the directions in the PDF you attached? (Ie: if you remove the battery, hold both volume buttons, and then plug in the USB, does your phone turn on and go into software update mode?) If you can get it into this mode, you should be able to flash the stock TMobile ROM using NVFlasher as in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
This may get you back to step one, and you can try again. Or maybe at that point, someone more knowledgeable will come around with better advice.
Good luck.
Thanks for your quick reply!
I was trying to uh...update to 2.3.4 Gingerbread to hopefully help resolve some minor but longstanding issues I had had with my phone. Mainly, the random reboot and powering off I was really getting sick of.
My phone was not rooted prior to this. I was running stock.
Yes, I can still get into the S/W updater screen following the instructions in the .pdf I posted.
And funny you should post this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1056847

heh... I can totally relate to throwing your hands up. I just started tinkering with my phone a couple of months ago, and the first night, I spent from 10:00pm until about 5:00am just trying to get Cyanogenmod installed. It was frustrating, but after a lot of reading and re-trying, I finally got it to work.
Okay, when you run NVFlasher, do you get any messages at all? Once you click one of the buttons to flash the phone, I believe a DOS window should popup showing you the status of the flash, whether there are errors while flashing or if it completed successfully. If there are errors, be sure you have the proper APX driver installed, which should be included with the NVFlasher package. What OS are you using on your PC? Windows XP? 7? When you have the phone plugged into the USB and the S/W update screen is showing, you should see "'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery" listed in your windows device manager.
lol...10pm to 5am eh? Sounds like me, I was (sounds crazy) noon Friday until 2am Sat and started up again around 9am and well...here I sit at 3 am my time, with a few breaks thrown in!
When I run NV flasher, it all goes smoothly. It looks totally complete, no errors. And I am familiar with the errors, the first few hours I had nothing but errors and dead ends. I have the proper APX driver for sure, I thankfully, run XP on this computer. And yes to the "'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery" listed in your windows device manager. "
Scratching your head like me? I don't want to do Cyanogenmod again, which is what I am tempted to do, thinking now that I have the baseband back, the cell phone service would work. I really just want my phone back the way it was, albeit, updated..ok, so not exactly the way it was!
Currently on phone, so no links. But in other lg device forum on xda there is the "offline updater method" of kdz flashing. It tricks lg updater into using a custom kdz and not to check online. Look for v21y.kdz and use that. Its 2.3.4.
If you can get it working with the old wind mobile rom all you have to do is use the official lg tool from their website and it will update to the latest version for you I had the same problems you are talking about and the only thing I could get to work was the lg offline update tool and flashing the old wind mobile rom after i got that working just went to lg and used their program and it updated me to new baseband an 2.3.4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25116859
This is what you will have to do. It took me a while to figure it out. But when you have the programs and files you need all downloaded and setup it works without being online. It worked for me once I figured it out. I had to read it a few times and do some searching for all the files but they are out there. If you do not find them via this site Google it. Good luck.

Awesome! What finally worked for you?
Hmmm...can I even remember?? My brain is still swimming in downloads and error messages!
I had tried the offline updater earlier, but the "Automatic Offline Procedure.vbs" file never would load, I kept getting an error on line 25. I downloaded it all again from other links, and this time I thought it would go through but I kept getting an error at line 70 something.
I finally read "instruction.docx" (the steps that the vbs file was going to have me follow) lol
I turned the windows enabler to the ON position.
I also disabled my LG modem first as I had read that on the .pdf file I posted earlier and it had allowed me to get Wind on there.
I disabled my firewall and anti virus temporarily also.
I opened the UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe set it to "3GQCT" and "EMERGENCY" and chose the V21y kdz
I hit "Normal web upgrade test"
Then start upgrade or something and the LG updater tool opened, it found my phone, I think I pressed Start upgrade or whatever again, waited, held my breath too long, passed out, woke up VOILA! DONE!
That is a VERY rough translation of what I did, I have had so many trial and error attempts and variations of settings, files etc, that I don't know what really finally worked! But thank you for your encouragement last night, because I was really about to give up for good (thus the last ditch "when all else fails ASK for help" post) and throw not only my hands up, but the phone across the room!
Now I am finally getting around to re loading my apps and all my settings, ringtones, etc etc etc. I don't know if I now love or hate my G2x!
Thanks to everyone for their replies! And everyone else who posts here and helps so many novices like me!
Glad to hear your back up and running.

No Luck
I have literally tried everything I could possibly think of to get v11h updated to v21e or even v21y and nothing is working for me. I am stuck at the part where the phone begins to update, but disconnects at param(5) and then fails after that. I have tried every method and tutorial that I could find and I am still searching. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I ended up buying a new phone cause I couldn't figure it out. I've tried every method with no luck. The phone just doesn't want to take the update for whatever reason. Other G2x I've tried worked but for some reason not the one I own. Hahaha
Try these links see if you can figure something out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339272 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619932

No luck installing the March 2012 baseband

What does "disabling the LG modem" mean?
I have a Wind P999 phone with the V11h base band. Of course, the LG updater tool says that I have the latest baseband.
I tried updating using the KDZ tool but that did not work. for me.
I tried pushing a T-mobile Stock Rom too. It did not updated the baseband. LG tool still says I have the latest update.
I have also tried the hack of using the LG Updated with a local shttp server. But even then, when I pressed the "Normal web upgrade test" and "Start update" nothing happens.
Am I supposed to get some feedback while the upgrade happens? How long does this process take?
I am using Window 7 Ultimate 64-bit. All antivirus disabled.
Anything else I could try?
BTW, I have been able to revive a bricked p999 T-Mobile phone that I got from Ebay. it has the stock T-MObile Rom with the March 2012 baseband and software version v21y. This Wind phone is just testing me

[Official Firmware] T311 (works for ODIN recovery brick fix)

Hey all,
I had an adventure today. I soft bricked my tablet phone (SM-T311 unlocked). On a later post I will give instructions on how I successfully rooted this device and installed ROMs, but here I will tell you what I did wrong and how to fix it.
First some background. After installing 2 ROMs and downloading a bunch of apps for rooted phones I felt pretty confident in myself. I figured I'd try one more ROM to see if it might have better phone functionality. I read through the instructions on the developer's page and proceeded. I usually go very slow and proceed one step at a time, but this time I quickly read through the 5-6 steps and thought, ok, I got this. Well, I got one of the steps reversed and soft bricked my phone. What a pain!! I ended up missing work to get my phone fixed. After researching and trying different stuff, I found what worked. Here's what I did to unbrick my soft-bricked tablet.
Unfortunately I cannot post attachments yet, but when I can I will attached the tar.md5 stock firmware file for anyone who needs it. If you have an emergency you can send me a message with you E-mail, or post it below, and I'll send it to you.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1 - Download ODIN (I used version 3.07)
2 - Download original firmware from sammobile dot com / firmware (I do not mind E-mailing it to anyone who needs this until I can get it posted)
a. Sign up for a free account
b. On firmware page, scroll down midway and search for T311 (you can find just about any Samsung firmware here)
c. My tablet is unlocked and not tied to a carrier so I chose "unknown" source
d. It will take an hour to download because it's a "free" account. Make sure your phone is charging in the meantime. When finished downloaded proceed.
3 - Get your phone into download mode (hold down Power+Down+Home).
4 - Plug your phone into your computer
5 - Run Odin as administrator, make sure "auto reboot" and "reset time" boxes are checked, will say "Added!" in Message box when it reads your phone. NOTE - if it is not reading your phone you need to install Samsung drivers, you can find them on XDA or Samsung website. I assume you are, however, able to connect to your computer if you got as far as bricking your tablet.
6 - Put the downloaded file into the Odin folder (though I really don't think it matters where you put it, but that's what everyone says to do)
7 - Push PDA button and attached tar.md5 firmware file
8 - Push run and let it go its course (appx 20 minutes)
Your phone will restart and work like new.
UPDATE//
..removed my ROM observations, was confusing to some...More importantly:
If you do a fresh install with firmware and a PIT file to complete a nand erase and then your phone gets stuck on the Samsung logo after it reboots, please re-root and then install CWM 6.0.4.5. I cleared caches on CWM and rebooted. Then my phone worked new.
My lessons learned after all this... I'm just sticking to a simple root for access to my favorite apps, and not doing anything else beyond that.
For anyone who messed your T311 up and need to restore it to new, hopefully this helped!!
Wrong forum... This one is for thr 7" one, not the 8" version...

Missing DLL file for AT&T V10 (H90020j)

Hello, sorry if this has already been covered, I've been searching for 2 days straight now (I'm new). So, my V10 froze a couple of days ago and restarted, then it got stuck on the LG screen. It made it to the AT&T logo twice, but then went back to the LG screen. Will not boot into Android.
I have been trying to flash my phone but keep running into issues. There seem to be two (2) programs called LGFlashTool, one of which requires a .kdz file (does not seem to exist for the H900). The other requires a .tot (found it!) and a .dll. I would really like to find this .dll file so I can flash my phone and hopefully get it working again. I'm not even trying to root it, just want to boot it up again without exchanging my phone and loosing all of my photos and videos.
There is also the LGUP program, and multiple articles about how to use it. I installed the LGUP_8994 DLL and the Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3 version of the program. I then copied the common folder into the appropriate location. When I plug my phone in on download mode and open LGUP, it says "DLL for H90020j is not installed properly. Please install a DLL package (*.msi) for the model".
Can someone please help me find this .dll file or tell me what I am doing wrong here? All of the guides make this sound like my grandma could pull this off.

I am sorry, but proceed no further. You would be at risk for bricking your phone. There is currently no firmware available for H90020j. There is however firmware for H90010f, but you are already on Marshmallow. You will just have to be patient while we try to find a way to root the device.
There is a sticky in the lg v10 General thread for doing a .tot update. You don't need the .dll file to do the .20j update. All you need to do is download lg drivers, change the lg modem mode to com41 , follow the instructions I think there is a video also. The lgup app will take the .tot file and then it'll be flashing in refurbished mode. This will clean wipe your system to stock 6.0 marshmallow
dear all, i have been trying by myself going thru xda to solve the above issue (missing the h900 model dll). history is i messed the build.prop and the v10 att h900 goes into (bootloop?) LG logo and never got up and i tried to hard reset (showed the yes yes screen) and after that been looking at LG logo for many hours now
tried dl-ed LGUP but ended with unknown (shows usb port 41) and searched for a solution (including the common patch): restart after reinstall (dll first then switch), use run as admin in xp and vista compatible mode... without success and looking into LG Flash Tools route -
LG flash tool method i dl-ed 'rootedH900 TOT' and 'rootedsystemh900' file from some private file server (with xp background?) but again, struck at the v10 model dll file to start...
last attempt dl-ed LG Mobile Tools and happy to know that download mode is working still (picked up by LG Mobile Tools on phone model and updates of recovery file) so i dl-ed the 1.89gb file but failed to connect to the phone to begin updates...
dear all senior, i just bought this 2nd hand from somebody happily and ended semi-bricked by my greed to streamline the performance... i seek all senior's kind understanding and help guide me to recover my v10 - many thanks in advance
i had skyped Tungkickk777 and waiting for his add approval... while waiting, please guide me. many thanks again! - v10 newbie
