[Q] Custop ip setup - HTC One S

i just got my shiny one s today and tried to get wifi from my router, strange but theres no option or setting to do so, as it was on lets say desire hd, would you explain me how to to do that and whats going on, i installed wifi manager and it says something about changes google made its inaccessible now, thanks

Oh yea , that's strange. I just tested an app I used to use on my galaxy s2 called WiFi static and it works. Just open the app and go to add configuration and then generate and is all done for you. This app is handy because it will switch ip settings automatically when you log onto another wireless network.

You don't mean Settings > Wifi > Menu > (drop down options) Scan or Add Network or Advanced?

Data Connection keeps switching to "off"

Every couple hours I check my data connection and the slide bar is in the off position. Any idea why it keeps turning itself off?
Wow, you guys are awesome.
Thanks for the help.
could you possibly be losing service every hour or so depending on if you're moving around? maybe it's set to auto disconnect?
why do u want it on all the time?
Wow... Patience some of us live outside of forums....
There are plenty of reasons why your data keeps turning off, it has issues, it is being force off by your provider? Sim issues? Phone problems?
Some more details might be nice as well. Applications, recent changes, rom, usage...
I leave my data on non stop, I have to refresh it off and on but eh. Unlimited data. I chop through 5 - 600 mb a month easy.
Start > Settings > System > Advanced config (if you dont have it - get it) > Menu > More settings > Connections: Select your data connection and set to "always on"
Or find the reg key & edit it manually, i cant remember where it is right now.
You do know you could easily have found that by reading the forums right.....?

I searched in the forums for "data connections turning off" and "data connection" and found nothing.

Thanks. I did not easily find this. This forum page is the first place I found and I wanted to thank you. I had just added Advanced Configuration program this morning and all of the sudden the Data Connection kept turning off. But I didn't know how to get to the "more settings" option.
Thanks again.

App for blocking mobile data connection?

As per the title...
I'm currently on holiday in Canada and using the hotel WiFi - but it keeps dropping out and my phone connects itself using 3G. Data on my O2 contract is £6per mb - so I don't want to be surfing on that! Because Opera or Skyfire take up the whole screen, I can't see when itsdropped out of WiFi, so my bill is already likely to be huge!
Is there an app to prevent my phone connecting over 3G / Edge etc?
Cheers...

Can't you just activate the "no data on roaming" option?
Otherwise, you can install NoData, or Manila dial-up enabler/disabler.

Hi.
Use this to disable the data connection. Originally from MoDaco forum....i think.
This is how I did it, taken from the HTC support site:
How do I disable my 3G/GPRS Data Connection?
Follow the steps below to ensure that your phone will never connect to a GPRS/3G Data Connection.
1. Go to Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Connections > Connections
2. Tap Add a new modem connection > then under Select a modem, select Celluar Line (GPRS) > Name the Connection "Offline" >Tap Next.
3. In the Access point name text box input "Offline" and tap Next.
4. On the next page tap Finish.
5. On the second Connections Menu, tap Manage existing connections and select "Offline" then click OK.
Re-enable the data connection if you want to connect to the internet via 3g/Edge.
1. From the home screen, slide to the Settings tab, Wireless Controls > Data Connection.
2. Select your Country and Operator
3. Tap OK.
4. On the subsequent screen, tap Yes.
The phone will automatically configure itself with the appropriate settings.
Note: When disabling the connection in this way, your phone may report errors when trying to connect to "Offline." The error is caused by the phone being unable to connect to a data source due to the settings, and is normal.
yeah well it's pretty much the same when you remove all settings - it tries to connect but it can't and an error message pops up when it tries to connect. i just can't figure why it's trying to connect in the first place when i've stopped all data services available in the settings tab and there are no applications running according to the task manager? i want it to stop trying to connect cuz its freaking anoying.

Rumz82, I know it's been a while since the last post, just for you to know that CAB saved me some money, because everytime I travel to another country I have roaming data charges, even if everything is disabled.
If I'd have searched here before, I could have saved some money indeed...
Thank you a zillion.
Best regards!

Wifi scanning when connected

Anyone know why wifi keeps scanning even though you're connected. I can understand when you're looking for a signal but when you're connected already? Ugh...

For when u want to change to a different AP ....
sent from Infuse but miss my captivate on cont. 5.5.... One day this can be as good...
From what I understand, you can change the scan interval in the build.prop file in the /system directory. I have mine set to 120.
If you are looking at wifi settings, depending on if you are stock and what rom you have, you may see it scan every 5 seconds, or constantly (stock).
This only happens when you are looking at the wifi settings themselves. When you exit the wifi settings menu, it goes back to whatever you have set in build.prop
Blade Buddy (in the market), will allow you to change the Wifi scan interval, it's under Advanced Settings, the setting is "wifi.supplicant_scan_interval". The app requires root/superuser privs. Default from AT&T is every 15 seconds, Infused ROM sets it to 120 to save battery. Be sure to hit the menu soft button, apply, then save and restart the phone.

I was under the impression that blade buddy and build prompt changes are only affecting the scan while NOT connected...
Changing those settings does not appear to change how frequent it scans WHILE connected to an ap

I think there is a miss understanding...give me 20 minutes to test my theory...
be back soon.
VERIFIED ...huge misconception
so...running a log I see that yes
Wifi monitor, process 680, runs exactly every 2 minutes, just as set in the build prop. It always does this.
Wifi SETTINGS, process 5890, runs every time you open wifi settings and updates the access points..once you close wifi settings it stops.
I can see what they did here...Many other devices have a manual scan (menu, scan) they made the scan for ap's auto when you open wifi settings, and only when you open wifi settings. that particular scan (process 5890) is not running constantly. It stops when you close wifi settings.
process 680 runs every 2 minutes while wifi is on. I don't have my other devices with me, and have never noticed or looked at this process before so for all I know it's this way on any device. I will look into that more later. Given that process 5890 is the one that actually updates the list of ap's...I wonder what exactly process 680 is doing.
I am at work and don't have the time that I want to spend on this (my employees have interrupted me 3 times while I typed this lol)

[Q] Can't download/update apps using data connection on play store.

whenever I try to download or update an app from the play store when my wifi is off and only data is on I'm getting a "xxx could not be downloaded due to an error.(404)"
I tried deleting data of everything market/play store related and nothing helped.
When the wifi is on everything works great.
Edit: if im going to the market site and choose to install the selected app on my devices it will also fail if the wifi is off
Also if it matters I'm using the market fix from LCD modder pro
u answered ur own question. Market has a known flaw when interacting with LCD modder and any dpi changer.
As far as I know the flaw is not being able to see/update certain apps, but after using the fix everything works.
And as I said over wifi I have no issues at all only while using data so I doubt that's the case.
Bumping this because I tried restoring to the original market and I still cant download/update using mobile data.
Would be great if anyone can help me with this.
while in market> settings> deselect wifi only.

It's not selected. I think I tried most of the obvious things but thanks for trying.
have the same problem
Did u fined a solution?
Solution
The solution is: go to System Settings > press "More..." in Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (APNs) >press the menu button, inside the menu press "Reset to default“ > now another option will appear called "Internet 3G" (modem) , besides the "Portal 3G". Choose the new option "Internet 3G" and you are done! =] here's a screenshot:
http : / / i47. tinypic .com /2njbv2u. png (delete spaces)
Solution - works
It worked for me although I didn't change to Internet 3G - just reset to default.
Thx. I already tryed a few fixes that didn't work.
Change proxy settings
I removed proxy settings from my APN attributes and then it worked fine.
Thanks a million! This worked for me and has been bugging me the last couple of weeks. Google support had me clear cache, do a data reset of all the Play store related apps/service, along with flip air plane mode on and off. They eventually sent me to Samsung support and they pretty much went over similar steps outside of trying it in Safe Mode. They even had me do a reset with the phone which didn't fix it either. I knew something funky was going on as my wife's Pixel was also doing it. Now I have both phones fixed!

WiFi Auto Connects to Any Open Network

So my wifi scans and then autoconnects to any unprotected open wifi network. I live in a city so this means every museum, coffee shop, hotspot, etc., that I pass, the phone auto connects temporarily to that network only to tell me after that it 'smart disconnected' because the signal strength dropped (as I, for example, keep walking down the street).
Some solutions online suggest turning off wifi when I leave my house (not an option), forgetting each network it does this to (not practical), and pulling up an advanced menu that doesn't appear to exist in our touchwiz version of marshmallow.
Anyone have any ideas? I only want to connect to a network automatically if I previously entered a password for it. This is how every other android phone I ever owned did it.
If you go to settings > wifi > more > advanced. You can turn off "network notification" and "hotspot 2.0" that should fix it.

WiFi Notifications was already off and I don't have hotspot 2.0 (I am on verizon and it looks like they may call it "Passport"), but that is also off.
Any other ideas?
Darn. That's all I know so far. I'm still exploring this thing while trying to figure out my wfii-play store mystery.
Hopefully this isn't one of those 'features' that turns out to be a bug like getting rid of silent mode in lollipop.
Hope someone else comes up with something.
I'm having the same issue as well, but I do not have an advanced setting under more.

Same here, no advanced setting under more. S7 edge exynos Netherlands.
Some apps call for quick connect via Bluetooth and WiFi. There is a setting to disable this.. Sorry but don't remember where is it. Only hint it is hidden well.
