What is the best CDMA radio flash file for stock ICS - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently using LC1. Seems to improve my wifi reception quite a bit. But cdma and 3g signal still sucks. So just a quick poll for everyone. Which radio to use on ICS, and dl links if you have them. Thanks!!!

Really which is best is very subjective. I have personally never seen a difference with any of them. Theoretically though, the latest one should be the best one. Here is the link to the thread in the development section.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen that thread and tried all except the KD8, I didn't notice a difference with any but LC1. My signal seemed the same but my speed tests were faster at home with the airave. Which I know runs the same 3g speed constantly. . . According to my other phones. The point of the post really was to see if anyone knew of a better radio. In their opinion besides the ones on that list. But I will update after I try the KD8.

No noticeable difference between the two.

Wifi speeds are not necessarily dependent on the used baseband firmware. Wifi speeds are influenced in fact much more by the used drivers (corresponding shared objects with "so" extension and library files) and its bugs. These drivers are located on the system partition. Official binary blobs containing wifi drivers can be downloaded. The official ROM uses binary blobs (proprietary SW) for wifi operation. Though some custom ROMs may contain open source drivers.

There aren't different radios than those. If you see a different radio not in that list, you should probably not flash it if they're claiming it's for our phone. Obviously a new radio could come out again and there could technically be some radio that never went official but if those make it into the public, the thread would likely be updated and have them.

[Q] Extremely bad internet speeds after rooting

Hello, so basically I have rooted my Speedy from 2.3.4 by using the bootloader unlock method posted by VICODAN in his tutorial but now I find that I am having insanely slow download/upload speeds compared to before rooting.
I have flashed the latest radio after finding THIS thread and I also tried the method from HERE to try and at least boost my speeds. I have also updated my profile and PRL through my Sense rom but nothing seems to help.
If anyone could give me any advice I would greatly appreciated it. I am on MikShifted-G v2.1 running dodgekernal v1.6. Thanks in advance.
I would also like to know if there is any way that I can go back to the stock 2.3.4 GB.

Welcome to sprint, the not now, maybe later network...

Well I've found that your speeds depend on what time of day it is. I know that's BS, but it's what I've found. Posted some Screen Shots Below of my Speeds.
The only time I get decent speeds from sprint is at night. Like 2am night.
You could also try the 3G Turbo Charger. You'll find it on THIS thread. Just make sure to read before installing.

Maybe you had roaming enabled in your old/stock rom and it's turned off be default in your new rom?
Well the thing is that I had perfectly fine speeds in my area prior to rooting.
I downloaded the "Network signal speeds booster" and "Fresh netowork booster", both from the play store and I am having almost back to normal speeds now, there was a dramatic increase in speed after I used both of those.
But I have also looked at the 3G Turbo Charger thread that prboy linked and I will definitely be trying that as well

Try turning off data roaming.
What does that do exactly?

I Just noticed this (several months later), but prboy, for your top screenshot you're connected to 4G, and in the bottom you're using 3G? I think in yours specifically it was only the connection you were using and not actually the time of day...

Well I've actually redone the Tests recently. Certain times of the day in my area must have some Heavy Network Traffic. Because the Network does slow down at the same times daily. But only during the week . Strangely enough I just noticed that I posted the wrong Screenshot . Although I do have to admit I'm not exactly a Scientist .
Haha yeah, but thats good to know, and yes, kinda weird that you would get faster speed on weekends you would think that it would be the other way around.
But anyway, thanks for sharing your results, I've done some tests recently too and they seem to be following a similar pattern...so even though you may not be a scientist, there is some truth to what you said
Sent from my PG06100
Yeah it's really bad from like 5 to 8 PM... You wanna see good 3G speeds, get on there at 3 or 4 AM, crazy good speeds cuz nobody's using the network... Except people like me who set stuff to download before they go to bed LOL
My 3g is really bad and it does not matter what time of day. 4g does not exist here, I am going to try 3g supercharger this weekend and see if I can make some progress.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk 2
I've had good results with the 3G TurboCharger. It just took a few tries before I found the correct setting. Downloading the App Speedtest.net will help you dial it in.
Tried 3g supercharger without any sucess. Perhaps someday the signal will get better.

That sucks . You could try a different PRL. You just have to be very careful when using different PRL's.

You can change the PRL without QSPT if your on a Sense Rom. Check out THIS Guide. Just be warned using certain PRL's can get you into issues with Sprint because of constant Roaming. Also you may want to do a search for the latest PRL's, as the ones linked in the post seem to be bit old.

[Q] 4G LTE issues with CleanRom 5.0

Hi all,
i have some questions about CleanRom 5.0 however i don't have the authority to post in it's forum, so i'm hoping someone can help me out here.
overall the rom is incredible, my only issue is the speed of my 4g lte network. it is much slower than what i am used to.
using speed test i consistently get about 12mbps down and 8mbps up, however if i go back to my stock nandroid backup so my phone is like it was before i went to cleanrom i used to consistently get about 23mbps down and 16mbps up. is this normal for cleanrom and if not is there a way to fix it because now the speed is about half of what it used to be.
i should probably also mention that i flashed the new radio and rpm that scrosler provided links to in the second post of the cleanrom forum
I've seen it stated many times that roms won't affect connection. Likely it is the new radio you flashed. You can always try flashing the old radio and rpm. Someone with s little more experience may have more insight.

Gotta agree with this. Roms do not change/impact your signal.
OP, flash another set of modem/rpm or even return to what you used before. Personally, my data speeds were below what I'm used to when using the latest modem/rom. My experience is nothing more than anecdotal and a single trial. I switched back to a prior modem/rpm combo and have enjoyed my normal speeds/LTE access.

@SlimSnoopOS
Thank you both very much for the responses. I will try flashing the old modem and rpm to see if that solves the issue.

[Q] Will a different radio fix this?

Hi everyone, I'm running CM10.0.0 Skyrocket with UCLD2 modem. I live in Jupiter, FL and when I am traveling through town and pass through areas that switch between HSPA, 3G, and 4G, I often have to toggle airplane mode to get data back. Is this due to my radio? I was doing research in the forum about the various radios and I couldn't find a definitive comparison of the various modems to each other with a chronology of release. I'd guess that newer modems are better, but then I read that sometimes that's not the case. Anyone care to weigh in on why I lose data connection when traveling through different data zones? btw i checked my APN settings and theyre fine.
I too run into the same issue but when I'm at work I know that if you running jb data loss has been known to be an issue with it yes the newer the modem can potentially fix or issue depending on situation best option is test

What particular modem are you using?
I'm open to suggestions from anyone for a modem to flash.

Sounds like a handoff issue. Try CI3

Just an update, things still seem good with CI3 compared to my old radio. Only thing I notice is it doesn't really like 4G data, it'll say 4G and have good bars, and I can make and receive calls fine. But if I go online it'll stall, and I'll watch it struggle and then swap to H+ and be fine. That’s the only remaining quirk. Not sure why it's doing that.

I know no one is following this post at this point but I thought I'd post a final update about how i resolved the last issue I mentioned in the post above, just in case someone else has this same issue and searches the forum later.
I fixed my reception with 4G accidentally, i flashed the Lightning Zap v3 kernel to improve battery and lo and behold, reception hand off is fixed!!

LTE speed question...

Sorry if this has been asked, but I didn't see it posted on here....
So when I'm in the Speedtest app, I can changer servers and there can be quite a difference in speeds...So I'm curious is this something that can be done with the phone, changing server to increase DL/UL speeds, as well as ping times?
Again, I truly apologize if this is redundant, if so, please delete this thread...
Thank you in advance for any help,
Chris
That really don't change anything on your phone, it just changes the server you ping to test speeds. Some servers are busier than others causing you to get different speeds. What matters most would be where you are at when you test it.

Thank you for the quick answer! Does changing the radio have much of an effect?
Radios are trial and error. You need to find the one that works best for your area. But always try and start with the one that goes with your rom version.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You want radio that matches your tower. I'm in middle of full time 4G and have to drive 50 miles to get 3G handoff so radios are irrelevant. If in area like mine you need to use newest radios cause we have newest or most upgraded towers.

Question about Radios

I'm on the turge stock 4.2.2 room with the new firmware. While I don't have data drops my signal doesn't seem to be as strong. In settings in my house it's -97 dBm. Is it possible to change back to the existing AT&T radio on this Rom without any data drops?
Did you flash twice so your radio would update as well when you flashed the 2.15 firmware? Can you post your baseband version here?
Sent from my Evita
This is the info. From everything I can tell it updated correctly.
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah that's the updated radio. You can try flashing the older radio to see if it helps with your signal strength.
Sent from my Evita
You can try a different radio. A small number of folks have had weak reception with the newer radio, and report better reception with an older radio.
But you might start getting the signal drop issue, as I believe its related to the power save function on Sense 5 ROMs not being compatible with the older radios.
If you aren't actually experiencing any reception issues (no dropped calls or breakup during calls, good download speeds on the network), and only observing the measured signal strength, I'd lean toward saying to leave the radio alone. Might cause an actual problem versus the present "perceived" problem.
Where would I find the older radio and would i flash it like the firmware? I feel like my download speeds aren't as good and I'm willing to give it a try.

Have you actually measured the speeds using Speedtest, and at different times of the day (networks tend to be more congested at certain times)? You can just be having a placebo effect.
