I really had problem with the battery life on the Nexus S.
30% Talk, 20% Facebook, 20% Webbrowsing, 20% chatting and 10% Standby mode. Never use 3G as my country not really available yet (Y_Y) and little of Wifi. I can hardly had my Nexus S with me more than 9hr. I'm on the CM7. Thank you for all the advise.
SO which rom give the best battery life result on the Nexus S?
it can be any number of things that affect battery life.
we all have different ideas of what light, heavy and moderate usage is.
if you are in an area with spotty cell coverage that will greatly impact your batt life.
if you just got your NS give yourself time to break in the batt. When i first got mine the day they got released i wasnt happy with batt life but a week later it was amazing.
ROMs will do little to nothing to give you better battery life. but from experience CM always edged out on top.
cm7 has pretty good battery life. You might want to try a custom kernel if you haven't already. I recommend netarchy's. Otherwise you could flash modaco rom which I've personally found to have slightly better battery life. 9 hours with your kind of use is actually not bad at all. Other things you could do is recondition your battery to maximize it. Or dim your screen brightness because you seem to be on the screen a lot. Screen filter app works great for this.

speaking of screen brightness, having your phone set to auto brightness uses more batter than just manually changing the brightness for any given situation
im still on stock and i try the nightlies here and there i get a day and a half on both builds. you must have lot syching in the background or ur apps are running in the background.
Thank you all for advise. I'll try to remove those programs that seem to run in background.
Does anyone use either of these apps on the infuse? What settings do you use? Do they help with battery life or make it worse.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
honestly i just think they waste more battery.
set cpu has it lower the cpu speed when its asleep then raises it again when you turn the screen on. seems like it would waste more battery.
and juice defender. same thing stops process that will eventually start agian more battery drain
ive used juice defender before and it works on some stock roms quite well. however custom roms i used on the captivate had zero improvement. it depends on a lot of things, really how much data the phone uses with the screen off. your sync options and apps will have a big effect. i honestly see no reason to improve the infuse. and at some point custom roms will not need any battery saver apps at all.
gingerbread roms tend to be better out of the box, so if there is a gingerbread update then the battery life should be very good for a stock smartphone
Funny you ask about JuiceDefender because I'm testing it as we speak and have been since early yesterday. I can report that it works pretty well actually. I was out and about for over 12 hours yesterday with JuiceDefender on the Agressive setting and I only lost 30% battery and that was with the screen on for about an hour and a half playing WordFeud (that game gets freakin addictive so I kept turning the screen on and off, on and off, on and off). Had I not been playing that game I bet I would only lost ~10-15%.
Setcpu works for me. I have it on 1200 and low 800 and on demand. When watching videos I set it to high n low to 400.

What settings were you on? I used it yesterday for the first time and it completely killed my battery. I was loosing 8-10% an hour. I had the settings set to check once every 2 hrs that's it. Wifi preferred ect

The Aggressive profile is all I conf'd JuiceDefender to.
Since I had the phone, battery drain has been ridiculous. Around ten to fifteen percent per hour. After recently switching to humble 1.5 my drain is nearly 30% an hour. I will try to recalibrate soon but should I consider getting another battery? I was listening to mp3s and checking email during that hour and about ten minute of gps. But the drain still feels a bit excessive. What do you think?

What kind of signal do you have? Under battery use, is there anything that's been using a disproportionate amount of battery? What do you keep on as far as services and connections, like GPS, 4G, etc?
My signal is usually fine with 4g a majority of the day. It was struggling a bit today in the underground and I had to turn off and on the data to get a solid connection a few times. I usually keep on the data and gps or bluetooth on depending on the situation. Usually just a combination of those. Data is the only one on all day. Nothing looks unusual under the battery usage except for the display using 82%, but it was like that on stick as well.

Well, 4G and GPS together can use power pretty aggressively. Granted, 30% an hour seems excessive and may be caused by something else.
A couple things you could try - force 3G (you can do this manually or via a downloadable widget I believe) instead of 4G and use location services instead of GPS (unless you just need GPS). I know these aren't as "attractive", but can provide similar services with less power consumption. This will at least let you see how much consumption is due to these more power intensive services.
If you still have issues, you may have a battery problem (or may need to try reflashing a ROM, stock or otherwise).

Yeah, that's a tough swallow just for the sake of battery. I can compromise on the location service, but really want 4g since it is so widely available for me. I will attempt to recalibrate the battery and then possibly reflash if I feel it's still a problem. Is there another rom you recommend that can possibly mitigate this issue. I tried Gummycharged on my phone but it is really buggy (launcher force closes every few minutes) on my device for some reason.

Depends on if you want a Froyo or a Gingerbread ROM. I was running the Eclipse Froyo ROM with the imoseyon kernel overclocked and undervolted slightly and had excellent stability, performance, and battery life. I just switched to a GummyCharged GBE 1.9RC2.3 but haven't really decided yet if I'll stay.
Probably Froyo

Thought about it for a while and will be sticking with Froyo for now until Gingerbread has been officially released from Verizon. I'm hoping that will allow for most of the bugs to be reconciled. I read in various post that GB still has some issues. Stability, performance and battery life are my primary concerns.
On a side note:
Don't quite know if I am ready to start overclocking and changing voltages. Is there a recommended thread to get some basic knowledge on working with the voltages and what not. I only have experience overclocking desktops and graphics cards.
Thanks for following through with me on this as well.

I was right there with you, but I read that these Gingerbread leaks also allowed you to use Media Hub with HDMI out (which it does), and my credit was about to expire

No problem, I used the clock and voltage settings in this post but only used the Temperature profile. Had no issues. I tried straying from it but started getting crashes so I went back to it. If you're looking for only battery improvements, you could skip the 1300 Mhz OC and just underclock and undervolt. That whole thread is devoted to an OC kernel though so feel free to read through and it may shed more light on it.
Hope that helps.
Awesome. Thanks

Automatic brightness will use more battery than setting it to one brightness and manually adjusting it as needed. Automatic brightness requires activating and polling the light sensor, then increasing/decreasing the brightness. On top of that, I've found that automatic tends to keep the screen brighter than it needs to be for me in most situations.
Good point

I think your right. I had a similar issue with auto screen brightness with my old Touch Pro 2. I will try this among the things written earlier to see if it has any impact.
5% drain in last twenty minutes. Just Lte on and no activity but writing this post.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
20% drain per hour of screen on time is the norm for Charge. Throw in the typical idle background drain of 4% per hour, and you'll see why 3 hours of screen on time per day is the max you can get.
Now then, the drain due to active screen use is expected and can't be improved. However the idle drain is unusual and *probably* can be fixed by future Samsung firmware. (gingerbread is not fixing it yet). I'm guessing its poor idle radio management, which is why undervolting the core does nothing to help.
If the idle drain can be greatly improved, the Charge could then expect to get 4-5 hours of screen on time per day, and I'd be a happy camper.

I'm in the same boat here with Humble 1.51.
4G at 4 bars, -84dBm, surfing the net, 30% back light, no gps, no wifi, 2 gmails syncing -- 20%/hour.
Brightness is at the lowest setting for me, Twitter, Facebook, and Beautiful Widgets syncing hourly, 2 Gmail accounts with push notifications, Google Voice, and possibly a few more background apps. I'm at just over 4 hours being unplugged with 20 min. of screen on time and my battery is at 75% and was charged fully when I unplugged it. I have not had any major use as far as playing a game or major web surfing either.
I have good luck with imoseyon's lean kernel 0.13.3 and gummycharged fe. I had very poor battery life before i tried that combo.

Go back to Stock. Completely wipe everything (including SD Card ... this is optional probably, but it's what I did. Make sure you back up on your computer). Then re-flash your rom. I had this problem after switching initially from Froyo to GB. My battery life is amazing now with the new GC GBE 2.3.

I've seen you post this on other threads, and it just proves that different users of the Charge have different experiences. I think a lot of it has to do with the network.
I have had my phone off the charger for 10.5 hours now at home, which varies between a moderate and weak signal. It is still at 81%, which means it has had a 1.8% per hour battery drain. It has been mostly idle, but I've sent a few texts and quickly browsed a website. If it was truly left alone, it would be even less than 1.8% per hour. This clearly debunks your one-size-fits-all claim of 4% idle battery drain.
As for screen on time, I've done 2 hours of screen on time during an 8 hour day and still had ~48% left. Doing the math I could get ~3.85 hours of screen on time in a 15.3 hour day. My battery drains quite evenly with no sudden drops, so this would be a fairly accurate and realistic expectation for me. If I really needed to, I should be able to get ~4.55 hours of screen on time in an 8 hour day. This is based on my high of 1.8% per hour idle drain and 18.8% per hour screen drain. Or, if I did a 10 hour day (like I do quite often), I could do ~4.35 hours of screen on time. Once again, your sweeping generalization of 3 hour max screen on time certainly doesn't apply.
I don't have any special or magical configuration either. I leave 4G on, which sometimes drops to 3G at my house since the signal is weak at times. I leave the GPS and bluetooth on at all times. I have the screen brightness set on automatic. I also have Gmail setup with one push email account and leave auto/backround-sync on at all times.
I run Imnuts' PBJ voodoo kernel with a stock deodexed EE4 system and got rid of some of VZW's bloatware. Mind you, I haven't noticed any significant difference in battery life between the fully stock stock EE4 and the current configuration.
What can I do to get better battery life on my Droid? Battery life seems awful. Less than 15 hours or so on normal usage.
lower the backlight to as low as you can, turn off GPS, WiFi, sound, kill some processes, go to airplane mode, dont multitask.
is there any software just 1 click to do that ?
Try Juice Defender

What for buy the phone if you can't use all these features??!!
Ok, how can I better the battery life meanwhile I can enjoy the features of my droid?
For me, I keep wifi, sync, Bluetooth on 24/7. Then put my 3g to 2g only. Turn off GPS. Let android auto setting brightness. Under the moderated use (few hours of web browsing. Calls less then 30 mins. And half an hour games) it can last one and half days. I turn on GPS and 3G only if I needed. I think besides screen they are the biggest power hunger monsters. 2G is enough to sync your data. If you pre cache your maps. It's okay to use for navigation as well. Hopefully this can help.

Increase Time between Charges:
1. Switch the vibrate function off on your phone, using just the ring tone.
The vibrate function uses additional battery power. Keep the ring tone volume as low as possible.
2. Avoid using unnecessary features.
If you know it will be a while before your phone’s next charge, don’t use the camera or connect to the Internet. Flash photography can drain your battery especially quickly.
3. Turn off Bluetooth.
It will drain your battery very quickly.
4. Avoid using moving or animated pictures or videos for your background. Animated backgrounds will drain the battery faster.
Here are some tips to prolong the life of your battery:
1. Initialize a new battery.
New batteries should be fully charged before their first use to obtain maximum capacity.
2.Keep the battery cool.
Put the battery in the freezer or fridge. (I know it sounds weird...)
Your battery will last longest if used near room temperature, and nothing wears on a battery like extended exposure to high temperatures. While you can’t control the weather, you can avoid leaving your phone in a hot car or in direct sunlight, and you don’t have to carry your phone in your pocket, where your body heat will raise its temperature.
3.Clean the battery contacts on the battery and on the phone.

When I first got my Droid X, it wouldn't last a day. What I did was to FULLY discharge the battery and FULLY charge it (not using phone during charge) and and after about 4 cycles like this, I can get about 2 days 24x7 life on the battery.

That is very interesting. I think this is about Android needs time to learn what is the real capacity of the battery. What you stated actually happens when you flash a new rom. That's also why it usually take a few days to tell the battery consumption when a new fw released.

Just use your phone as you like, and when you go to sleep, put it on the charger, so you enjoy your phone the whole day
At least, that's my trick. I use my Desire S from 6.30 till 22.30 (when i'm awake), and when i go to bed, its around 20 percent on stock ROM.
Your ROM, kernel and radio can really affect your battery life, For example, when i'm on Cyanogenmod, with CM kernel, i can use my device two days, and on the stock Sense 3.0 ROM it lasts one day. Play with these three, and see what fits you best.

I'm using Green Power for a while now but lately I have been thinking that it might not be needed anymore.
What are your thoughts and what are you using to save battery.
Personally, I think they're a placebo effect, but I never gone in depth to do any real comparisons so I could be wrong. And the M8 has a good enough battery to where I don't consider needing a battery saver.

I ran Qualcomm's Battery Guru app customized for our CPU on my Rezound and now my M8, but ultimately decided that I would just run in standard powersave mode. My kernel lets me undervolt and overclock, so I get decent battery life coupled with fairly good performance without ruining any other battery software.
I use the built in batterysave in CleanROM combined with ART. Great combination.
I use the built-in Power Saver, along with Greenify.

What ever for? [Imgur link, SFW; shows my battery stats this morning]
If I can get 20 hours to 30%, I can probably get 30 hours on a full charge. But I put my phone on the charger when I go to sleep. If I didn't, I'd be shooting for a 40 hour drain. That's kind of high expectations for a stock battery. Why not just charge it every time you go to bed?
I'm running the latest CleanROM in Dalvik mode, whatever kernel comes with it and zero battery saving apps. I do have the option ticked as you can see at the link where it cuts off your data when the screen is off (like Deep Sleep Battery Saver, and others). But the battery saver itself is off.
