{HELP} Interactive Help Forum!{TUTORIALS} Where questions are encouraged! - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Many very accomplished Devs, themers and modders are available and ready to help others. With that said, this is an open invitation for anyone to post and ask for help or advise on how to do anything Android related. There is a wealth of knowledge here on XDA, and I believe that it should be shared.
NOTE***Most of these tutorials are for sense devices, but would love to see this become a thread for everyone.
NOTE***If you have a mod tutorial that you would like linked in the OP, pm me with the tutorial and I will link it.
A few easy rules to follow......
This will be a friendly forum, with no flaming for asking questions. Without someone asking questions, there simply are NO answers.
This is not a thread where someone will do everything for you, it is intended to teach. So get your pencils ready.
Please make sure you show respect to those that have helped you, after all, they don't have to. Hitting a THANKS is sufficient.
To start things off here are a boat load of tutorials that my friends and I have compiled that are very helpful, as well as links to tools that are commonly needed. I will add more tutorials periodically, so check back often.
All these people are to be commended for their efforts in helping others become better devs, themers and modders. I personally have learned a ton from all of them.

It will as long as people keep asking for help.

I need help filling this forum with tutorials. I think fern and silver are working on an inverted MMS tut for sense 4.0. Got anything for us Mr. Tomato? You always have something good in the pipeline.

Hope this gets a sticky.

Need HS++ Custom Theme

i would like to request some one to make this theme on hs++ platform i am not good with programming and stuff please help
Oh, Btw, thanks for not asking me any kind of info/permission on copying our idea. Very kind of you.
Regards.
You could found help here :
http://www.mobilecustom.fr/forum/
They are really good for HS++, they have an english section for your post.
PS: Ask for wvga version, for me
sorry i dint know that i need permission to do that i dint even know that you designed such a excellent UI u r really creative can you make this on hs++ ????
just experimenting on HS++ theme i have somthing but its not perfect any one good with HS++ can try it i have made the theme from all the resources available on XDA DEVELOPERS and MOBILE CUSTOM thanks to the original authors of the theme
please feel free to try the theme
That'd be fairly easy to make.. but whether or not it would work in Homescreen ++ is a completely different story. The fact that in the screenshot.. there is a slight angle to which the icons appear which is concave in the shape of a U or V means that it wouldnt be a smooth slide.. it would need to be perfectly aligned horizontally to provide a nice slide animation.
Also... ALWAYS get the artist's permission first.. or ask them? <_<

hmm ! But HS++ not support landscape screen
Well my work wasn't protected by any kind of copyright, but it's at least kind to tell me that you are using something I made for your theme.
I don't ask money or something, just ask to be recognized as the author of what you are getting your inspiration from, if not even assets itself.
BTW i'm not working on the project anymore (due to the lack of interested developers) , so all the assests I did for that interface are inside the archives I uploaded on the beta post.
You have to work out the rest by yourself, sorry.

How To Make This Video Tutorials!

O.k guys this thread will based on video tutorials,so you ask how to make something and ill make a video on showing how to make it.
This is going to be fun and very useful for those trying to learn and even for those who know and have got stuck on some parts. =) O.k guys I do know a lot of other things besides just graphics like editing the .xml and stuff but this is mainly graphic photo shop work.

Thank you, bro....subscribed already. Great first tutorial. Thanks again!
How do you make a rom lol
Well these are going to be all graphic based, but once I am done getting my ubuntu setup I was thinking of making a few of those as well.
!!
Wow cool manup - I have always been impressed on your work, can you show us how to do icons, I have learned by my self, but your an expert
creating icons from scratch is harder work, now you can edit icons or take two and make it your own. ill do a video on this in a sec.

By the way, it loos like your using photoshop right?
make a tutorial about oc and uv ing (the steps involved) can't seem to figure it out
@frankzua77
Done check it the tutorial is up on my channel,I hope this is what you wanted.
Could you please make following tutorials: "how to edit notification text color" and "how to edit luncher2 appdraw selection"
Well the selection is more java code not really graphics at all and there is a colorchanger app that does that. And the white notification text is a statusbar.xml edit now the time on the bar Is in service.jar. I really dont mess with java at all,but the statusbar.xml I can prob do a guide but the program works better than spending time to hex edit. The progress bars as well is a .xml.
I think my next guide will be on adding guides and signing .9.png unless I get a request.
Bro and if you want a guide on editing that .xml ill do,but I wanted to stay more into the making themes and graphic part.
!!
Thanks BRO! you rock homie!
np bro! ill try to keep them coming.
Hi manup456,
I want to request a tutorial on how to optimize graphics (icons, wallpaper..etc) for devices like the nexus one.
For example, if you use PS and save an image the normal way (jpeg, png,...) it comes out quite large compared to the original. Then there are options for coloring, transparency... all that's stuff.
Anyway, If you could show me how to save icons so that they are displayed well and still have small size, that would be awesome.
thanks
If you can do a vid on editing the progress horizontal xml will be cool
How did you get the dots on the bottom of the launcher (that represent the different screens) to be as clean as they are in NexDeep? I am trying to port it over to the newer 7 screen Launcher found here, but having some issues getting them to look as nice.
Thanks.
@daveid
Well the dots on the modded launcher I made from scratch thats why there so clean.
@icegad
I can do this will be the first video I do tomorrow.
@duylong186
Well to optimize a icon in cs4 you would save for web and devices and use png-28 that will optimize the icon, but threre are also programs that can optimize a icon even more.
Oh and checkout my new video I posted tomorrow ill have a few more.

Wow, see what you mean, realy nice theme! Like the style of animation.
Be interesting to see if any one picks this up
it would be really cool. i would be willing to compile all of the icon packs, sliders, and wallpapers if somebody was willing to help me put it together as a full fledged theme
ive seen the fallout theme created by horrorview and star, and it came to be an amazing theme in a short amount of time. i feel like the hd2 doesn't have a whole lot of theme customization for just the stock rom, and a few quality themes seem to be in order :]
Yeah when I had my G1 someone had made a BUUF theme and it was always my favorite, I love that animation style too. Keeping an eye on this one
if somebody could kindly lead me in the direction i would need to go to get the programs and tutorials on creating themes for leo. id be more than happy to make it myself but i dont know where to start or what to look for. i have all the icons and what not together, i just need to know how to edit manila in order to create a proper theme
This one is for tf3d 2.o but it may help you get started.

i have seen that one before, but all he really did was change the slider and the internet tab. the clock was from a custom rom i believe, however im not a huge fan of the clock anyways.
i do have a slider already on my phone with actual buuf icons, and i have all of my icons replaced with high res buuf .png's. but now im to the point where i want to modify sense in order to get a more complete feel to the theme. i have some buuf wallpapers too.
really all i need to do is some color modifications on manila, get a more cartoony flip/analog clock(s), perferably the buuf clock used on android.
there really isn't a whole lot to do honestly.
ill take a screenshot of what i have right now when i get home from work
edit: actually i think the desire flipclock might fit pretty well. ill just have to see

Fear's Manila Mods

Hi people! This is my first thread and I think it gona be quite big.
I hope you will respect my rules:
1) Don't post my works (modifications or separate files) in any place!
2) Don't include my works in any other cabs or ROMs without asking permission
I wanted to post theme today but after CHT 1.8 release I need some time for it's modifying.Moderators, please clean this thread.
Some screens for very clever and funny users who are posting now in this thread
This theme is based on default images (800!) Total glass and several weather changes.
those task/softbars can be made in a single click, since it's one of the preset web styles in photoshop cs4
If you don't enjoy my work, I wouldn't post this theme.
So, it's really better for me, I will use it only myself.....
sylvesta696
make better one, of course if you can
WooW
Look very nice man
Great job ,cant wait to see it
Thanks

I need some time for it's modifying and testing. Because after CHT 1.8 release and new Manila builds there can be some bags.
I will post my theme after first ROMs with Manila 2.5.2014 for HD2

[Q] Looking for an *updated* guide/template for CM10.1 theming

There are a few guides on here but they are all out of date, referencing tools that are outdated and don't work, or just plain broken links. I'm also looking for a template theme that's based on the stock CM10.1 theme. I tried using SystemUI from a rom build but that didn't work too well...
Bump. Sorry. Plenty of people here making themes. Someone must know.
There are many tutorials in the android theme section here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=527
A long time ago, I wanted to learn how to make theme chooser themes, but along the way I learned from various places how to decompile existing themes and take looks on the inside on how they are made. Then I made my own tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730445 . No self promotion intended, I took what I learned, and made more use of VTS instead of using command line tools directly for general understanding, and it pointed me in the right direction.
Hope that helps
