sky ice network issues anyone else? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

ok I tried download new UL2 modem I follwed dirrections first off NO ltw (maybe not in my area) but 4g icon only 2nd my download speed like .15mb
then I reflashed the UL4 modem one comes with now I get decent speeds but seems cut off a lot.. this isn't huge issue as I use wifi at home but when im out and about (which havn't tested yet) im not sure.
now I did follow UL2 let modem direction wondering if changed setting RAT setting shouldn't have... if u reflash modem to rat settings go back? when flashing modems back forth I read you delete Dcache and cache which I did but am I missing something? something else do after or something... thanks
when downloading with just network it cuts out stops in middle of download ... i dunno what deal is anyone else got info on this? if I reflash a modem back do i need fix permsions?
well i flashed orginal modem working alright guess thought icerom have better donwload speeds but wow its slick and clean looking I really like it :O) yaaaa

I had no issues with the ucld2 radio while I briefly tried it. I'm going to be honest a say u don't seem experienced enough to be messing with the RAT settings of the radio, and should leave the default settings alone. On first boot after install dial *#2263# and set to auto, then menu > end, and reboot.
Make sure your apn is set correctly, especially if you are with rogers. Using the ltemobile.apn with the skyrocket even in an area without late results in data drop outs, as the phone searches for late signal. Same goes for AT&T. Make sure you are using 3g apn values, which will work fine for 4g.

I'm having the same problem. I tried Sky ICS 4.2a, then 4.2a-8, then 4.2d, and now 4.2a-9.
I've been using UCLD2 on these and had no problems, until today when I installed 4.2a-9 and all of a sudden I can't stay on LTE more than a couple minutes. It drops down to HSPA and drops the data entirely. I've NEVER had this problem, and I've tried every radio there is. I flashed back to UCLC4 and I'm still having the problem.
I'm searching the forums for a fix right now. I might just wipe again and start over with the base/modem.
EDIT: I've tried changing the RAT on both new radios by pulling the SIM, setting LTE/ALL, then Automatic. No change.

Help - Cm7 Update - G2x - No APN connection....

Hey Everyone,
Whenever I update to any version of cm7 and flash a new kernel with it I lose APN connectivity... I can't manually connect either. No 2g/4g nothing. Wifi is fine. I've tried multiple versions of cm7, etc. I don't have the same issue with Eagle 1.0.4 and/or Team Whiskey, flashing back to stock, etc. but anytime I try to check out CM7 I can't get it going! I figure it's something simple but does anyone have any ideas so I can try to get some OC going! Lol...
Thanks Everyone...

It's already been reported. A mod will move it shortly. Next time post in the Q&A section. This area is for Development only...hence the name.
Try it without the kernel.
- BFL
I've been recently having the same problem.
Not a problem, this was a question concerning development and more or less the roms I'm downloading from this section hence I posted it here... won't happen again.
As for flashing w/out the kernel, I thought you needed another kernel to run cm7 with? I'm trying to overclock basically which I can't do on the stock kernel either.... so I'm not really sure what to do but I'll see if I can flash back to gingerbread, get my data going and flash back to cm7 w/out using any new kernel... have to make sure the rom doesn't autoinstall the new kernel either when you flash the rom
Update the apn settings for t-mobile. You can find them online just by looking them up. Try that.

What works for me is a hard reboot. Hold volume up and power for 8 seconds. Apn should be there when you boot back up (usually). I have this issue with stock and any other kernel
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
SOLVED!
I had the exact same issue and fixed it by installing the SIM card that came in the GX2 box.
I had been using my Nexus One SIM up to that point. The T-Mobile customer service rep told me that the G2X needed the updated SIM card and that without it, there would be data issues when not on Wi-Fi.
Write the SIM card information down before installing it in the G2X and calling T-Mobile (or whoever is your service provider) b/c they need the serial number in order to properly provision the phone.

Worked like a charm!!! Thank you!!
Simple yet effective lol
Finally up and running on cm7 with no apparent issues to report!
Also I found out that going into settings, into the apn settings, pressing menu then reset to default seem to kick it outta limbo
Great info everyone, thanks!
I'm still working on getting the market up and running on cm7, but otherwise everything is running really clean!
Thread moved to proper forum.
I have the same issue, and only on CM7..
Other Stock roms work OK for 3G
I have 2 sims - one uses regular APN setting (supplied from simcard) the other one is manual
The one that uses default (simcard) apn worked once after first install..
Than doesnt work..
VOL up + power didnt do the trick..
Whenever I put the custom APN simcard, it doesnt apply the settings..
Very weird..
I'm using the SIM out of my G2x box. Maybe it helps a little but it still happens when coming from a reboot, wifi, or airplane mode.
When you go to Mobile Networks, it won't connect to any of the listed networks.
This is already known and discussed, but to put a solution to this thread:
Go into Mobile network.
Let it scan
Select ANY network, it will error
Select Automatic until it reconnects again
Done.
Once it reconnects, you should be able to go into APN settings and see "Simple" and "T-Mobile". Sometimes if you can you select "Simple" then select "Tmobile" again, it speeds things up.
Works EVERY time. Sucks it requires this most of the time but it only takes a second and will stay connected for as long as the phone is turned on.
Hard reset (VolUP+Power) didnt work..
Is it a problem with their firmware?
I require custom APN's on my Network operator -- stock (or eagle blood/team bionics) work great, but CM7 doesnt for some reason..
Cant figure out why..
Even 7.1 RC0

APN's won't stick until you do what I said above. Once you disconnected and reconnect, APN's should pop up. If you created your own APN, it should THEN be displayed.
Even customs APN's won't be displayed until you disconnect/reconnect using the methods above.

I feel like we're missing a step here. There isn't anything to select, unless you go under Network Operators or Access Point Names. APN is blank for me, so i can't select anything, and doing anything under Network operators doesn't work...

[Q] Different Roms, Different Radios, Same Problem

Background:
I'm on AT&T, Unlimited Data.
I've had my Inspire 4G for about 4 months and for the most part I have been running Leedroid. Recently, I've been having trouble with not being able to make calls, but able to receive calls and use data. When I try to make a call it drops immediately. As soon as I press Call, it flashes to "Call Ended".
I thought that a clean wipe and flash would solve the problem and I've also made sure that I'm running the correct radio (Suggested radio) and matching RIL.
Neither of these ideas fixed my problem, so I flashed CM 7.1.0-RC1 and again checked the radio firmware and RIL. No dice. I've tried to search around the forums to make sure I wasn't overlooking something obvious, but I haven't found anything.
Also, I do have a good signal when I'm attempting to make a call. It seems to only happen in one part of town and I'm wondering if it's something to do with this part of the network. Sometimes if I cycle the radio on and off using airplane mode it will work long enough to make one call. Sometimes if I go into the Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > and press Select Automatically, It re-registers on the network and all is fine for about 30 minutes.
Side note: My data speeds have dropped from 4000kbps to about 700kbps.
Current info:
Android 2.3.4
Baseband 15.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel 2.6.35.13-cyanogenmod-g87a2eba
If anyone has run into this problem or has a suggestion I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Data can be different at different times at&t is notorious for that. its odd that it only happens in one part if town, that leads me to think that it has to do with towers and signal.
If it was happening all the time, I would think different, but it only happening in one part of town, and it only recently happening, thats signs of tower/ signal issues I would think.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
I feel the same way. I'm going to run an experiment today. Using Open Signal Maps, I'm going to note the tower that I'm connected to when I start having problems. Then, I will drive a distance away until I have connected to another tower and see if that resolves the problem. Otherwise, I'm still stumped.

I was having the same problem, more so with data then calls. I too am running leedroid however I tried his recommended radio and noticed a huuuuuge different in dl speeds. I tried waiting a day but couldn't do it. I flashed the stock radio and ril and everything is back to normal from what I can tell. Try that and see if that helps

Yeah, I've tried that. Didn't work. Thanks though.
Just for grins, you could try a different radio. 26.09.04.11 was never released on the Inspire nor the AT&T network. Keep in mind that Lee is overseas in the UK using another network provider, so I would take his recommended radio with a grain of salt. If I were you, I would try 26.06.06.30 or 26.10.04.03. If you're using a Sense ROM, then use RIL 2.2.0160HM with it. If you're using CM7.1.0-RC1 or a newer nightly, then stick with the default RIL (2.2.0018G) because it's tuned for AOSP ROMs and is known to work very well with all stock Inspire radios.
Regarding your poor data speeds, be sure to reconfigure your custom ROM to use the stock APN settings. No custom ROM on this forum (except for those heavily based on the stock ROM) comes with the true proper stock APN settings that are needed for full speeds in some markets. Link to the APN settings is here.

Roaming on CM7??

Flashed CM7 the other day (thanks again for the help Carmon!) and love it. Only issue I am having so far is...I've been unable to roam. I live in a fringe area, and normally roam on Verizon towers at home. I attempted *228 several times (while on US Cellular), and the recorded message (voice) states that the update was successful, but the message on my screen says "activation unsuccessful". I am able to make and receive calls and send messages, etc...but the phone will not roam. I have networks set to automatic, and national data roaming enabled. Any ideas?? Anyone??
The screen always says unsuccessful, it's a known glitch. Try setting roam options to home only or whatever, sometimes they get mixed up in the process of building and fixing other stuff.

Appreciate your response! I've tried every setting. Home only gives me US Cellular signal. When set to "Affiliated Networks", the setting will not remain there, it resets itself to Home only. When set to "Automatic", it catches US Cellular signal, but does not roam when there is no US Cell signal.
Surprised nobody else has this problem...
It may be a issue in which we need to go all the way back to stock and do the ADW fix.
Yeah possibly... scarmon do you have that to post? Ive never had to do it and I never copied it down...

Just got done flashing back to stock and completing the ADW fix. Flashed back to CM7...still no roaming. Tried every setting and every combination of settings with NO luck.

That's really odd... are you sure you're in a roaming area? The phone wont roam if you have uscc signal.

I am in a roaming area...as I mentioned above, I live in a fringe area, and my phone (usually) constantly switches between US Cell and Verizon. Now, it does not switch...it just goes from US Cell to NO service.
On another note, since I re-flashed, I am not receiving sms. And when I send sms, they are blank???
When you went back to stock did you flash the EH09 Build or did you flash EE19.
Edit. Didn't mean to double post
I did a full flash back to stock Froyo since I had the files already...
Everything is working except sms...

[Q] 4G Connection Issues (Haven't Lost WiMax Keys)

Hello. After lots of rooting, ROM flashing, and all that good stuff, somewhere in the process I did something that must be keeping me from using 4G. When I turn on my 4G antenna, in settings it just says I'm "Disconnected" and when I scan for service, it scans for maybe five seconds and goes back to disconnected. In the settings, all three fields for 4G network information (Network provider, Signal strength, and IP address), are blank.
I used wimax_mtd and ls /data/misc/wimax/ to make sure I still had my keys, and I do, they match what's written on the back of the phone exactly. I tried this with no luck.
Anyone know what is causing the problem? I'm running a fully rooted gingerbread.

What rom/version? What provider? What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
Sprint. The ROM is just a rooted version of Gingerbread (2.3.3). The software number is 2.76.651.4. Troubleshooting? I don't even know what you're asking there. I have my keys, I've confirmed that. I tried one thing from the thread I linked. I can't connect. What else am I supposed to try?

Unless your actually connected Network provider, Signal strength, and IP addresswill appear blank when you look in settings. If you've confirmed you have your keys, and are in a 4G zone. Then you can try a simple trick that sometimes works. Put the phone in Airplane mode for a few minutes. Then take it out of Airplane mode, and try to connect to 4G. If that doesn't work then go ahead and update the radios as VICODAN said. That should solve the issue.
Still no luck
I just tried all of those steps, besides the airplane mode one, with no luck, but I'm trying the airplane mode idea right now, and if that doesn't work, I'll elaborate.
EDIT:
Okay, no luck.
So I went through and flashed the newest radio and the wimax radio, and in the process I realized that I didn't actually have the newest radios beforehand. (I also learned that I hadn't yet formatted my microSD card to FAT32, so it's good that I realized that too. ) After that, I went into System Uupdates and updated Profile and PLR, then I rebooted, and I did it again, and I rebooted. You said to do it twice, so that's why, but you said twice twice so I wasn't sure which part to do twice. (Wow, that was a mouthful.)
After all of that, I tried the airplane more thing, with no success. I've connected to 4G in the past here, and the spring website even says my area has 4G coverage, so I know that's not the issue.
Also, about the tweaking ##DATA# settings, I mentioned that I tweaked it according to the link I put in the original post, but is there anything else I should try?
Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Last thing to try is ##rtn#, wipes fone and resets to factory defaults, then do hands free activation.
Also make sure your [email protected] stuff is configured properly. This is also somewhere in ##DATA# settings.
You can also try flashing a different rom like CM7
But before you do that call sprint tech support and tell them to fix it. They might be able to do something on their side.
Okay thanks, I'll call them later today.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
So I called, the woman had me do a few things, and after hitting restore from the menu in ##DATA#, the 4G is behaving differently. Instead of scanning and returning to disconnectec, it now goes to "turning on ..." Then to "turning off ..." And back to on again. It cycles forever, until I manually turn it off.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Well it sounds like something is still wrong. Try flashing a different Rom to rule that out. If that doesn't work, and having WiMax is a must. Then you may want to think about running an RUU back to 2.2 stock. Then just start the whole root process all over.

lost data altogether

o this is weird, I just got back from a vacation in CA, back home to Portland, or and I have no data what so ever.
Been on Viper's rom for a while. I know Portland just got LTE like this week, not sure if that has something to do with it? Any suggestions? I already reflashed the rom and no dice
Try changing network mode to GSM/WCDMA Auto (or any of the other settings without LTE) and see if you get data.
What build of Viper? And what network icons? I've found the AT&T icons cause more trouble than they are worth. Almost any other ones cause less troubles. If using the AT&T icons, reflash using the stock icons.
Sweet that worked thanks. I did choose ATT icons, I will reflash right now with stock icons.
Hopefully that will make it so I can have LTE without issues, but for now changing the network mode has me back in business
hmm still can't get LTE, I tried putting in a new apn per the insturctions in the AOKP thread, but it still loses data when it switches to LTE
I'm not clear, are you on AOKP or Viper now?
If still on Viper, did you try to reflash the ROM, picking the stock network icons this time. You can "dirty flash" and keep your data.
If you are still on Viper, and on the AT&T icons, I believe changing the network icons actually changes the build.prop, and for some reason this screws with LTE, and simply changing the APN settings won't fix it. Not sure why this is true, its counter-intuitive, you would think the AT&T icons would work better on the AT&T network. But I don't know the details of how the build.prop gets affected by the network icons.
