I think whether your battery is done or you just have to shut down the phone, get the full charge and empty the battery. You should repeat this 2 or 3 times with letting the battery cool down before recharging. If this won't do it I can't help you.

Don't empty the battery. Only let it run down to around 5% or so. Basically, follow the steps to calibrate the battery.
To OP
What apps do you have installed? What accounts do you have on sync?
What ROM were you using before and how was your battery life then?
And do remember it's a port ultimately so battery life likely won't be as good compared to an official ROM.

Firstly thank you two for your answer. I will calibrate the battery first and I'll give you back my conclusions.
Thkx again!

Did u try to calibrate ur battery after flashing the new rom.?
Try the calibration charge ur phone for 5 H's continous without intrabtion even it shows u that it's full charged donot unblog it from charging cost green lite is fake after that do battery status wipe from battery calibration application from market then use ur mobile till 0% then do full charge again like 1st time after 3to4time you'll see the deffrence thanks to mike1986 for helping

Thx for ur precious help!

Best thing if your using stock battery is to monitor battery heat using battery monitor widget. If it gets to over 35 to 40 degrees and there's your cause. But as far as wiping battery stats is concerned you might aswell put your balls on the screen instead its a myth...... Explained here
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...s/ShsH+(xda-developers)&utm_content=Google+UK
Also, are you using the sweep2wake feature of bricked kernel? That destroys my battery every time I've flashed it.

All calibrating does is wipe battery stats, battery stats are wiped after EVERY full charge, I've had my sensation 4 months and flash a new Rom almost every day and I haven't calibrated in at least 3 of them months and I get a full days battery every single day. But whatever, listen to whoever you want but seeing as that article is by a google employee its gotta be pretty reliable. But download 'better battery stats', it gives you details on what's been using your battery and how much its used.

I tried reflash the rom and select "no" for sweep2wake tweak but it was installed anyway... So i don't know what to do... And it's overheating even if i'm just typing a text or an email... --" so much problems... Why me?????
I recalibrate the battery, there is some results but i must let the battery going down 2 or 3 times again and recharge it to have a real battery life, the battery life i had before --"
And recalibrate the battery means delete de batterystats.bin, and i never said that it increase the battery life but it (as it name means) recalibrate the battery level, have the real battery stat.
When you buy a new phone the seller ever say that you must wait the battery lay down before charge it again, there is a reason for that.
I think recalibrate the battery (delete de batterystats.bin) works to have a real battery life, not a better battery life.
And I don't really know the difference between the bricked kernel and the faux kernel on my phone...

hi there
after battery calibration u i'll get the real level estate of it, so that ur mobile won't do sudden shutdown or restart it self that's 1.
2nd thing is your mobile is draining alot of power cozing by some programs and u didn't aware so u need to watch all the programs that running on it and specify which 1 is cozing the problem and drain allot battery power by keeping cpu busy and over heat above alla that be aware that cpu overheat on cozing huge battery drain scientific fact in every electrical device ...
if u like it hit thanks
it manager musa91.

Thx for your answer it helps me a lot ta understand why the Cpu was overheating. You're right but recalibrate the battery don't give you the battery life that you had before instantly i think i must wait several battery cycles before having again the same battery life as before.
EDIT : I know why my battery is drained so much... it's because my CPU is always near 100% of using... I download cpu widgets to see if my cpy was used normally and i saw that it always using more than 50% even if there's no application (visible) open... So i'm once again lost... And i think that recalibrate my battery won't help me anymore...
EDIT (2) :

Sorry for the double post but i see that my phone told me i didn't have anough battery to stay awake, but i pluged it in and reboot to the recovery mode and i saw that the battery lvl was 41% Oo and 30 seconds before my phone turned off because of not enough battery Oo
I must recalibrate it once again?
EDIT : and after reboot the battery lvl is the same as the recovery mode one... T________T
EDIT (2) : Look at the graphic, passed from red to green Oo

I'd recommend buying an Anker battery too, they have a higher rating (1900mAh) and you can get one from here.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/1900mAh-rec...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1334849876&sr=1-2
They last a fair bit longer than the stock battery and they don't overheat as much!
EDIT: They don't seem to be available on amazon any more but the link above for a 'Saner' battery looks similar

I didn't say that my battery was overheating, it's my CPU !!!!!

OTA 2.3.4 Upgrade - Battery Issues

So I have had the OTA upgrade on my phone for the past few days and the battery life has gotten unbelievably bad. I'm so confused because it seems to have helped a lot of peoples batteries. I have not changed any habits at all and can barely get through the morning. I'm losing 20% just on the 25 minute train ride to work.
Any ideas?
I'm on the same boat as you I hope we can get a helpful answer.

Still no improvement. There have to be more than just 2 people that have experienced something this drastic. I have made absolutely NO changes other than the update and the battery life is absolutely pathetic --- like 3-4 hours pathetic.
And no I have nothing synching.

I'm no expert, but perhaps it'd be worth installing an app that monitors CPU usage. I remember having such battery problems with the Desire HD and it came down the the CPU constantly running at 100%. Perhaps you have an app that took a dislike to the update?
Just a thought...
Craig.
This is my situation also. Battery is the worse battery of any smartphone I've owned, since the update. No root, nothing. I'm either too lazy or not savvy enough to pinpoint this down, as far as apps, what is syncing, how often, blah blah. All I know is I am using it as little as possible b/c of the battery. I have had it 8 days, and REALLY need to call Cust Serv asap so I can get a replacement and see what happens, but I just don't want to go through the hassle of them trying to troubleshoot the phone. I'm also experiencing the HTC Sense reloading when exiting out of apps, and a few other small bugs/glitches, like web pages jumping/skipping around when I am scrolling through them. Sorry to unload on this thread I know it's about battery...
Same problem, but my battery get way way way too hot. All that energy loss getting hot is killing my battery. It gets up to 50+ degrees C. Way to hot and ever since using these 2.3.4 ROMs.
Try calibrating the battery.
You guys also might have gotten a bad battery. I'm pretty sure if you call HTC they'll send you one free if you tell them the battery overheats.

This would make perfect sense if I didn't have my phone from the initial launch day at Walmart and the battery had been great for me UNTIL the upgrade. It's not the battery's fault.
And yes, I have recalibrated. And no, synching is not the issue since everything is the same from prior to the upgrade.
Actually you do need to recalibrate the battery. I had really bad battery life after the ota upgrade, spare parts app and wiping battery stats and now much better battery life than before ota. I have 64% at the moment, unplugged at 7:30am. I used to get 8 hours to a charge right after ota
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
Before the Update, my battery life was great, except that occasionally I'd wake my phone up to a Battery meter showing a big grey !, instead of the color-coded indicator. A quick glance online said there was something possibly wrong with the battery, or that it was an unsupported 3rd-party battery
After the update, the battery will suddenly decide its ~70% lower than it was several minutes before, and shut itself down. I had to take the battery out, then put it back in, before the phone would recognize that the battery was actually still mostly charged.
The warning symbol mentioned above was infrequent enough, I could believe it wasn't noticed by everyone having these troubles. I think there's simply something wrong with the batteries, but since the 2.3.4 update, the phone treats the problem differently

How did you use "Spare parts"? I downloaded it and I can't find where to wipe the battery stats. I pick battery history and it tells me I'm using gingerbread ROM which does not contain battery stats reporting activity.
An app could be playing up. I know it's annoying but you could try a factory reset and reinstall everything from scratch. I find this helps tame apps that misbehave.
If your phone was fine prior to the update it's unlikely its a battery/hardware issue.

Add me to the list of people whose battery life died after the upgrade. I even tired a factory reset over the weekend to no avail. I also tried switching batteries from another Sensation that I have which wasn't being used but no luck there either. In my mind it definitely is a software issue. And to think I used to brag about this phone's battery life!
I just need to root this thing and move on. Was hoping the HTC root process would come out soon. The instructions make rooting HTC's seem more complicated than my Samsung Vibrant which was pretty simple.
How do you calibrate the battery? lawl
If you're rooted, you can download an app called Battery Calibration that will help with calibrating the battery.
Otherwise, basically run your phone up to 100%, then drain it down to 0 until it shuts off, then recharge it back to 100%. Do this several times over the course of a few days and it should be calibrated.
Been experiencing the same thing. Finally got around to checking wakelock, and found that HTC sense had wakelocked the phone for 9 hours (the awake bar in system settings was solid). Some quick googling suggests that in certain cases, the HTC Sense sync can do this, so our common denominator may be that we all have a sense account set up.
I've disabled sense in my accounts, and killed the sense service. We'll see if that "fixes" it.

Battery damaged?

I have an Problem with my battery, when i have full charged it, it stays some hours at 100% and current widget tells me about 250mA on standby. It was only active when screen was on,after a night it still hast 100%.I tryed leedroid and coredroid after a superwipe ,did calibration several times and tryed the Last 2 Radios with matching rils. Someone with the Same Problem? Or a solution? ;-)

i have done a couple of full recharge cycles , but still the battery shows after some hours 100%, and when its @ 11%, or 9% it stops again a long time.
Is anykind of controller in my battery broken or all the others have the same problem with the calibration?
Same problem for me ...
The same for me, right now my phone running CM7 has said 5% left, meanwhile I've had a hour phonecall and browsed the internet at the same time, so it's not reporting the correct battery. I ordered a new battery from HTC fearing this one might be going out... I've calibrated many times, even after a reset it will say 1 or 2 more percent more then it'll drop down but then still get's stuck at one level and doesn't drop or power off.
I've got the same problem, tried different rom and radios, calibrated the battery a few times and nothings fixed it. Just like everyone else my battery will stick at a % but if i reboot it will unstick for a few % then stick again. Really annoying as i have no way of knowing how much power i have left without restarting. CurrentWidget is showing around 500mA usage constantly which means i dont even get a full day out of the battery.

No.
The Sensation's ammeter is poor, so they have to estimate the actual current.
I believe the battery monitors calculate an effective mA from dV/Dt w/ and % from voltage with capacity from calibration data...

[Solved] Draining power on standby

Hello community.
I've installed Cyanogen and noticed that the "Phone idle" and "Cell standby" apps are draining around 50% of battery power. Why can it be so? Is radio faulty?
This wasn't a problem with stock HTC Sense...
Or maybe I should just re-calibrate the battery?

Re-calibrating the battery stats my help represent a more accurate usage of your battery, but it wont have any effect on how long it actually lasts.
Out of interest, regardless of what is being represented in battery use graph, what time are you getting between charges? How old is your phone? Don't forget a new battery takes a couple of weeks before it's performing to full potential.
I ran CM7 for a spell and got roughly 24 to 36 hours up time, depending on whether I was using the CM kernel or the Tiamat one respectively. The Tiamat kernel gets slightly longer battery life, but that is because it under-volts so is not considered as stable as the CM one.
Well, I didn't have a chance to get an average time between charges, but it'd be something like 24 hours, so I guess, everything's OK.
Anyway, can radio software update/change improve time between charges?
Is only ever change a radio if it was to fix a specific problem, that couldn't be solved by other means. It is quite risky, and can result in a total brick if it goes wrong. Plus I'm not sure you can do it if you are still s-on.
If you are getting good performance and 24 hours battery life then I'd say leave it be. Any improvement with another radio would probably be too difficult to tell.

Depends on the nature of the "brick". Some are reversible (like a USB brick), but I believe a bad radio flash would mean it was beyond any recovery that you could do yourself.
If you have any problems like poor GPS lock or bad 3G performance and you are already on the right radio for your region (which you are likely already are) then there are usually other less risky procedures to solve any problems. Changing a radio should definitely should be left as a last resort only after all other avenues have been exhausted.
24 hours battery life with moderate/heavy use is about as much as you should expect to get. Any further improvements are better made by managing your radio use and syncing schedules well. Check my downloadable pdf guide that is one of the sticky threads in the General Section. I have done a section on battery life, where I have mentioned a few tips which have helped me push the limits of my battery life to the max.
Quite surprisingly I found the biggest improvement was made when I charged my phone to 100% at night on a timer plug, and let it have a 'rest' at 100% for several hours whilst I was asleep before resuming normal use. You'd be surprised how long it then takes your battery to drop to 99% if it's had chance to cool down after a charge. A hot battery will always discharge faster than a cool one. Charge it up during the day and immediately start using it, and it's down to 99% within minutes.
Look how long this graph shows I was at full charge, and how long I got from following this...

Wow, this is the most valuable tip on energy saving I've come upon.
Along with, may be, switching to 2G instead of 2G/3G.
Thanks a lot!
By the way, I'm looking at my battery using stats, it reads this:
- Cell standby - 38%
- Phone idle - 28%
- Wi-Fi - 13%
- Display - 13%
- *some game* - 5%
- Android system - 3%
I'm used to "Display" being top consumer, so these numbers seem kinda weird, don't they?))
OK, my panic was kinda premature...
I tried not to waste energy and switched off 3G (turning it on on demand). Voila

[Q] Battery stuck at 100% | 1 hour no charger still 100% | cannot charge battery now

The Problem
As the title mentioned in the title my Battery is stuck at 100%, I've left it for an hour without the charger and it's still stuck at 100%. I plug the charger back in and the phone thinks it's fully charged so it doesn't charge.
I've turned my phone off and am awaiting instructions on a fix because if my battery goes flat I won't be able to charge it and my phone will be useless.
When it happened
I don't know when it happened exactly but I was getting S-OFF using the JUOPUNUTBEAR method as I had a H-BOOT of 1.27.0000 which revolutionary.io couldn't S-OFF.
Once I got S-OFF I installed LeeDroid ROM and then I noticed my battery was stuck at 100%.
What I've tried
Using a different battery (I have OEM and Anker)
Changing ROM to Android Revolution HD
Extra Information
While changing Roms I installed 4EXT Touch Recovery which in Recovery mode it has it's own Battery Meter, they also said the battery was full (though I didn't unplug it for long)
I have the same 100% stuck problem with Android Revolution HD, I'm starting to get worried and yes I have waited an hour without the charger connected and still have this problem.
Does it do this with all Rom? Have you tried to calibrate, possiably app might allow you to change the configuration? I'm just guessing here, hopefully you will find a fix. I've never heard of this before, this is a new one. Perhaps someone with more knowledge can help! Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Have you tried using it heavily for 30 minutes like playing a game or something?
I experienced this issue but its only with some roms. I left my phone on overnight not charging (8pm-11am) when I last use the phone and it still said 100%.

try wiping battery stats first
use battery monitor widget or battery calibration app or from recovery(4EXT ->wipe|format->wipe battery stats )
then if it still didnt fix the issue
try another ROM or reflash the same rom...but before doing that ...
i want you to wipe everything using inbuilt 4EXT wipe feature not superwipe
(4EXT-> wipe|format ->format all partitions except sdcard)
then flash the rom
if its still fix the issue
flash an RUU (this will cleanup everything)

I wiped battery stats from 4EXT recovery which hasn't fixed this issue.
I will re-flash Android Revolution using your instructions tomorrow.
If my battery goes flat during an ROM install what's the worst that could happen, could I completely brick my phone or could I still access recovery to restore my ROM Backup, or re-install ARHD ROM from 4EXT.
If all that fails what would be a good RUU to flash? would I then have to make my phone S-OFF again?
Thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.

If the battery runs out just leave it to charge for a while. You'll still be able to get into recovery so it doesn't really matter I think

Before I seen your post I wiped batterystats.bin with the BatteryCalibration App from the android market and didn't do anything. As I explain below I got it to work with 4EXT recovery wiping battery stats, but I thought the Battery Calibration app did the same thing. In that case I think taking the battery out and in for a second time may have worked.

Actually I waited a little longer and my phone went down to 98%. I left it on overnight and now it's 63%. It looks like it's working again.
But with further checking I noticed a couple of other weird things.

If you look at my pictures above, here it says "Status: not charging (0mins)" & "Status: not charging (19mins)".
When I took them screenshots I hadn't had my phone on charge for over 10 hours. Oddly for very small intervals it's charging itself. At one stage I think I check it it was 75% then I checked again and it was 76%.
Something else that looks a bit odd is my phone temperature, in my screenshots you can see it says it's "11.9" & "11.6" degrees. It's over 14 degrees here in Australia how could my phone be colder than the temperature outside. I remember my phone used to be "26" degrees often. "11.6" dosen't seem right.
Do these two issues seem familiar to anyone. I know there not big problems but it would be nice to have them corrected.
EDIT: I decided to do a Backup in 4EXT and my phone was saying 55% battery and in 4EXT my phone says it was 62% why the difference? Could this be a problem? which one would you think is the correct one.
EDIT2: It did go down to 55% pretty quick while doing the backup, prehaps it needed time to work out battery life.
EDIT3: Now m phone battery says it's 72%, then it quickly went down to 69%. It never used to do this before I rooted. Could this case any problems, like the battery to go too flat to the point it's unrecoverable.
Sorry for all the edits and questions, I just like to understand my phone and be sure I don't break anything
Battery percentage fluctuations are common when you just change a rom.. Even after reboot if the battery percentage goes up then within few minutes the percentage goes to its actual.. The battery requires some time to settle so when you change the rom or kernel these fluctuations do happen(remember these fluctions are in numbers only the battery charge doesn't increase Actually)
Once you use a same rom for like a week or so.. The battery stats sync up with your usage.. So no worries
Also regarding the temperature it seems like the battery you have doesn't have temperature sensors (anker doesn't have sensors too so always temperature is 11C for me)

Anker does not have a proper thermistor.
Why would you even complain when you have such great battery life? That's pretty strange

I think I have a similar problem with yours. The issue with my sensation is that it charges up to 100% and after I unplug it the LED stays lit up green until around 85%. Once it goes lower than that, the battery icon shows that its charging and the LED stays lit red but the battery percentage is decreasing and it continues to do so until around 60% remaining. Then when it gets to 59% the LED turns off then that is only the time that the time in the battery stats starts to record how long its been on battery for me. Sometimes at full charge when I start to use the phone for heavy usage such as games, the LED starts to change to red even if its around 95% and unplugged from the charger. There are times that when the LED light is red and I plug the charger to the phones USB port and not connect it to an outlet, the LED light turns off. I don't know what caused this since I just got my Sensation from another person. Still all features are working great and am able to flash ROMs normally. Kinda a flashaholic if its even called like that. No other issues other than this. I haven't tried to use a different battery since I don't have the extra cash yet. Please bear with my long post. Thanks.
This is not a problem. This is normal.
I go to work at 100% and dont use the phone much. Several hours later it still shows 100%.
Relax. Its not a bad thing. The battery is not draining rapidly and lying to you about it.
Sent from a rebel ship by storing the message in an R2 unit. (Help me, XDA. You're my only hope)
It takes a few cycles to with right. I can use my phone for up to an hour, plug it in and the light is green. No big deal, as the phone doesn't want to overcharge the battery. As so as the percentage drops, it charges. It gets better as you use it more.

Weird battery issue

For the past little while my battery has been draining very quickly. It turns out that my power button wasn't grounded and stopped working soon after the battery issues started. I got the power button replaced and ordered a new battery, but now the battery is acting even weirder and I'm not sure if it's a issue with the new battery or with my phone.
The battery will drain fairly slowly (six hours to go from 90% to 50%), but will then drop from 50% to 30% in a matter of minutes and then to 13% even quicker before the phone will shut down completely. I've tried wrong the battery stats but it doesn't seem to have helped.
I'm guessing that it's a problem with the new battery, but I was wondering if anyone had experienced any similar issues? I'm going to switch back to the old battery and see how long it lets as a test but I would like to figure this out soon. Thanks

Hi,
Maybe u can post ur battery stats to help us understand what ur using during the battery drain.
What ROM/kernel are u using?
Is the drainage during WiFi or data usage. If its data, how strong is ur signal?
There is so much that can be causing this so the more info, the better.
Oh, and is the new battery a knock-off? If so that can also be an issue.
Where did u buy it?
Thx

My battery stats from last night were mainly screen and maps. I turned off automatic updating in maps though. I can edit this post after I use my phone a bit.
I'm on stock everything but rooted.
I always leave WiFi on, but the battery has gone from 50 to 30 to dead when I wasn't connected to a network. My signal without WiFi is normally three to four bars, and WiFi is about the same.
The new battery is more than likely a knockoff. I ordered a $10 battery from eBay (my bad).
Sorry about not paying more info. I wasn't sure what else to post. Please let me know if there's anything else you need to know. Thanks

Well if you're stock(I assume you rooted but kept the same ROM) then maybe you can change kernels
or
Look for a ROM that has the stock feel but has tweaks that can save your battery life. There are a few out there.
But you'll get arguments that stock is not always the best ROM for great battery life.
Its a personal choice so look at the ROMs and pick one after you've read the thread to see similar issues/wants from it.
Good luck
If you are on Jellybean Stock then you should seriously consider using a custom ROM because Google hasn't yet released the perfect Jellybean like they released the perfect ICS in 4.0.4 update..
Secondly, you should try cyanogenmod based ROMs whichever have been great when talking about battery life (There are really awesome ROMs out there).
And follow the below mentioned steps and observe for a full 100-0% cycle drain times and get screenshots of battery stats with screentime and post here..
1. Turn the Screen Brightness to minimum; the tolerable value for you.
2. Remove any unwanted apps.
3. Keep WiFi switched off when not in use.
4. Set the multitask value by Going to Settings -> Developer options -> Background process limit -> At most 4 processes
5. Use minimum widgets and minimum home screens if possible
6. Uncheck the location services in settings. You can switch them ON when required very easily.
7. Clear Running Apps from Settings -> Apps -> RUNNING & also by long pressing Home button.
8. Clear cache at regular intervals and always use back button rather than using Home button
If above steps make a difference then it will become your style or else change the battery and get something like from OEM.

I took some of dark's advice, although I had already been doing a lot of that stuff. I'm not complaining about the battery life on the stock rom (I have already accepted that it's not the best), but rather the issue of having my battery drop from 50% to dead within 20 minutes, even without use (not at all normal for me). Does anyone know what could be causing that issue?

How about a screen shot of ur battery stats?
There could be an app or the OS hogging up ur battery.

My battery seems to be holding strong. I'm worried about what will happen when it hits 50% though.

edit: i'm sort of wondering if my phone is reading the battery correctly. it kind of seems like six hours is a lot of uptime just to get to 50%, so the rapid drop to zero might just be because the phone isn't correctly reporting the battery's charge.
edit #2: my phone got down to ~30% battery no problem before it shut off completely. upon plugging it in to get the phone turned on, the battery had dropped to 20% and then dropped to 17% with the screen off and the phone plugged in

Your battery seems to be good enough to withstand the usage. There is one thing you can still try;
Let the battery drain completely and let the phone get switched off.
1. Now plug in the charger and on the phone go to your recovery. Here I suppose you have the latest CWM recovery.
2. Go to Advanced -> Clear Battery Stats -> Confirm by scrolling. Then reboot the phone and avoid using it before it's charged completely.
3. Now let the battery charge 100% and only after that you unplug it and don't interrupt the charge cycle.
4. Observe the changes in discharge timings. And also paste a screenshot of Screen Usage time by tapping on Settings -> Battery -> Screen (The Time on details...)

I'll try that later. I thought you were supposed to reset battery stats when your battery was completely charged so that's how I did it the first time thanks
edit: i'm just about to reset the battery stats again. my phone decided to show 40% battery as I was walking home, but then shut off and shows 0% battery now that i'm home and have access to a charger. i'll let you know what happens once the phone is fully charged. additionally, my phone will say charged while plugged in when my battery monitor thing says that it's only at ~89%, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. thanks again
Everything seems to be going well today. I'm about 8.5 hours on battery now so I figure I'll let my phone charge a bit. Thanks again, dark. Hopefully this time it'll stick.

Every battery exhibits different discharge curves vs voltage. The os estimates battery level based on voltage. It is possible that the batteries discharge curve is just very flat throughout with a steep drop in voltage near the end which would produce the results you are experiencing. Wiping battery stats has no bearing on this issue, google cleared up what battery stats really does over a year ago. Best suggestion is to drain the battery fully, charge to 100% and repeat the process several times. This will help both the batteries discharge curve and the os's estimation based on voltage. If the problem persists, buy another battery (preferably not a knockoff) and test again. If you are still having problems after that, you may have a hardware issue with the phone. Does not seem to be a Rom issue, otherwise the drain would be happening constantly, not just after 50%.
