[Q] Freezing Wifi tethering with ICS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I found posts for TiBu methods for freezing wifi tethering restrictions on GB and did it successfully.. Is there a way to enable tethering on ICS 4.0.3? Running the Sky ICS 4.2D rom.

are u using the new ucld2 base? if you are then dial *#638# and hit wifi tethering always on and then again, then restart phone. If you are on the old base, ultracfg should be available in the app drawer, if not, u will have to install it on your current rom

Yes working from seanzscreams' SKI ICS UCLD2 base.. Your method worked but there seems to be a bug with this as it freezes while "verifying." Also when restarting and disabling the tether.

haven't read much on tethering and ucld2, let alone try it. it may or may not be broken, im sure someone will look into it

Installing an updated base Rom so i'll letcha know if the issue's resolved.. Thanks for your help

Still running into issues with the tether toggling. Not sure.
Q. Generally good practice to fix permissions after every flash?

Clear Droid Q&A

As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
So was it strange that I was never told this thread even existed and had no idea until just now? For anyone still having problems, a few troubleshooting techniques:
-When installing, are you sure you cleared cache and dalvik? If coming from a major release to a major release, did you do a full wipe instead?
-Are you using the proper radio, as posted in the first post of the thread?
-Are you using any task managers or antivirus apps?
i just flashed 1.2.11 to my phone which i decided to finally root after about 4 months, and i love it. I installed barnacle due to the stock hotspot debacle and when i go to use it it tells me that NAT is not connected. now here at work, where i am testing it, i dont have great connection but i can get 3g to work here. what does it mean when NAT does not connect?
Sorry, no answer here on the hotspot issue. Have you PMd Mister ClearD? He is very responsive and has been working hard on this whole hotspot issue... he'd likely be very interested in your problem.
I too am running 1.2.11, and am delighted with it. However, I am wondering if there is any way to get more volume out of the speaker for ringtones and alarms. I have them maxed out on the phone's adjustments, but it's still awfully quiet.
Michael look for an app called volume+ made by meltus I believe in the market. It works with gingerbread but not froyo. There is a few other fixes for the volume limit but I can't link them currently because I am on my phone. Do a search for it and it should come up. If someone doesn't post it up.

Hello,
Last night I flashed the latest ClearDroid ROM 1.1.51, but when I check under the software information menu, it says the Android version is 2.2.1
The flash seems to work because it says it's running Cleardroid.
Shouldn't it be running the Gingerbread (2.3) update or am I mistaken?
Also, the data connection seems to screw up, and only works when it wants. Sometimes ROM Manager will disappear from the apps menu.
I did a full wipe before flashing and it still won't work.
I also just flashed CoreDroid and it did update to 2.3 , but I want my stock HTC theme back!
Thanks!

The version 1.1.51 is still on froyo build but has the new ril for gingerbread. On the first page of the Dev post he has a link to the matching radio. Give it a flash and see if it helps with your data connection. If you want gingerbread his version 1.2.xx is the gingerbread Rom (still in beta), it has the fix for messaging but he is still working on tethering. It's still the stock look to the dot
On the app side I don't know what could be going on there, sorry I couldn't help on that point, (since I'm not having that particular error)

im personally running 1.2.12 RC2 which is his latest Beta, along with the suggested radio. i dont have any problems with network and it looks and behaves great while keeping that stock look. honestly i love this ROM. if you have any major questions just send ClearD a PM and he will get back to you. probably my favorite dev because he is so thorough and responsive to his followers.

to post my own answer ClearD told me that 1.2.12 has a working tether program. he is still working on making the stock tether work but for now the one he has included in the rom works great so no need for barnacle
Thanks Pytheous and Hiyabuz! I'll give the latest beta a shot because last night I flashed the rooted AT&T stock rom and my battery life improved but I'm still having data problems. Now I'm not sure if it's my cell company or the ROM that's causing the problems.
I'm afraid of flashing the radio and losing my signal completely!

This ROM, from what i can tell, is basically a stock ROM with all of the bloatware crap taken out, and a few cool gadgets added here and there. I love the ROM and the way it feels, but what i love the most is the responsiveness of the Dev for the ROM. If i have an issue i just send him a PM and he either sends me an answer or gets to work on it right away.
as for the radio i flashed the reccomended one on his original dev post and i actually get better signal in most places.
I also have another question of my own. i wanted to test out the GPS last night and it seemed a little more sluggish than stock. i could be immagining things but i was wondering if anyone else was having this problem also.

ok thanks buz. i just wanted to check
i only used it for about 3 min so it wasnt a very good judge of use
For example yesterday I retried mine first reconnect of gps after upping to new radio took 5 mins without vase and was sluggish. With case it took almost 10, today with case on first lock took 14secs with an 8 sat lock inside and using my case. its been awesome since he put in the gps fix. B4 it could take up to 30 mins for first lock without my case and it was only like 4 sats.

Noob here, I flashed the ClearDroid 1.2.12 rom a couple of days ago and love it. The only thing i want to change is the secure box in the messages menu. I would like to hide it or remove it, is it possible? Any help is appreciated, I did search I swear I did.
Will the Tiny audio fix work with this rom?
Issues with using latest gingerbread build.
Hello CleardDroid team;
I am a big fan your ROM, it works great on my phone. I have some serious issues using this ROM;
1) I am unable to compose message, when i try to compose message it force closes. I have tried alot to fix the issue but unable to resolve it. I have cleared its data, restarted it, fix the permissions using ROM manager, but failed to fix the issue.
2) Hotspot is not working, but I guess you are working on it.

Try to update to 2012 Baseband

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to update to the new baseband but everytime I run the fix my phone still says I have the july 2011 baseband. I am running Hellfire 1.8 and I tried to do it the way it says by flashing ROM, FIX, then GAPPS. but to no avail.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I just got finished doing this, WOW the GPS has a fast lock now. Make sure that you flash the BB FIX after you restore you HFP
Guys I cant install the lg update tool. gets stuck around 10% then just stops. Im already having issues and I havent even gotten to the phone part lol help? tried rebooting laptop, running w7 64bit T420 8g RAM. I dont think its my laptop..
UPDATE: added screenshot of where setup gets stuck.
follow this thread. works like a charm. make a backup of your device first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644
the steps in this thread will restore a stock gingerbread rom. when that is done, use nvflash and put the stock recovery back on as well
reboot your phone and do the update that way (over the air). look in About Phone under system settings and you will see a menu item at the top called software update (or something similar). use that to update your phone, you will end up with GB 2.3.4 and the new baseband
if you want to use a custom rom, eaglesblood build 4 has support for the new baseband built in or you can use CM7 RC3 or a currently nightly, or you can use either kwes or buru's roms, OR owain has a bb update zip that is supposed to work on any rom
good luck!
Sorry it just turned out that it was my jobs firewall that didn't allow the install to talk to the Lg servers. I got home and it worked so I now am running HFS 1.8 with the new baseband. Thanks for everyone's help on this.

how is your BT and call quality? those are issues on all but the stock 2.3.4 that comes with the new baseband (and the tweaked roms based off it)

The only thing I've tried through BT is tethering, as I dont use a BT headset, which works great. Call quality is clearer but not a huge difference. Data drops less often now though.

Try and get as many people to star that so perhaps the developers won't keep telling us it's "Hit or miss" and not a big issue.
I've had no luck with Bluetooth on new baseband but it works great on the stock 2.3.4 ROM from LG. Loaded with tons of bloatware to slow your phone down again.

i starred it and hope it gets fixed one way or the other and i agree, the new stock 2.3.4 works great and getting rid of bloat shouldn't be a problem however, just yesterday and today while running 2.3.4 my phone would just start getting really hot doing nothing but sitting in the holster, screen off, 4g off, BT off, wifi off, dont understand, but i put cm7 june 10 build on and now it doesnt do that
Yeah, I can run custom ROMs and all is well other than Bluetooth for call audio. My problem is I drive all day and have to use Bluetooth, so I'm stuck on stock
Hopefully it will get fixed.

Latest Cyanogenmod 9 with UCLF6 libs | Hosts file ad-blocking (7/14/12)

i compiled cm9 using the official ics UCLF6 files. cm9 is using the UCLE2 files still. Im not sure exactly what differences it will make but they are updated libs and if you are anything like me you want to have the latest and greatest. haha.
i will update the rom daily so it will act as a nightly sort of. i will continue to make these roms daily until cm9 pulls in the UCLF6 files.
I will compile these during the night after 7 or 8 oclock so you can have the changes that are going to be in the next cm9 nightly the night before its released. hehe. they usually put in the changes the night before and then make the rom with those changes the next day. this rom will have the changes before the official rom does.
if you want the latest modem flash this one first:
UCLF6 Modem w/ csc files: http://d-h.st/XYa (thanks seanzscreams)
Latest CM9 rom with UCLF6: HERE
Latest GAPPS: HERE
0.) flash UCLF6 modem (optional)
1.) mounts & storage >> format /system
2.) flash rom
3.) flash gapps
4.) mounts & storage >> format /cache
5.) reboot & enjoy
if you follow these instructions then you will still have your data from your previous cm9. which is always a plus.

so then would the current CM9 state of build work best with the UCLE2 radio? If it's being built around the UCLE2 radio why are we continuously trying "other" radios?

some radios work better than other depending on your location etc.
My apartment has horrible signal. UCLE2 manages to get a bar whereas others do not.
I'm using the standard CM9 nightlies, but this build is intriguing. Is your build essentially a preview of what the nightlies will eventually merge in as well?

So the libs and the radio are 2 different things. The cm9 nightlies are being built with the ucle2 libs. They do not include any modem or radio. Libs and radios are interchangeable. You don't have to have the le2 radio with the le2 libs. I hope that makes sense

I dunno if its the modem or the lib files, (or maybe something in 7-10) but when I tether another device no data works on this one. When I turn tethering off, I get SMS and mms messages emails weather alerts.. everything that didn't want to come through with portable hotspot on. Browser doesnt work either if it's turned on. Didn't have this issue yesterday, was running 7-9 w f5 modem. Whatta ya think?
(And yes, I am throttled, but I was throttled yesterday as well. I crossed this months line a week and a half ago)
Edit: its not the new radio or the libs. Same thing on official 7-10 with the radio I was using yesterday. So its either 7-10 or I'm more throttled now than I was yesterday. Apologies for the false alarm.

hmmm im not sure. can you get a logcat? the only variable is the libs and modem. i know its alot of work but you can try flashing the stock UCLF6 rom that mohan just posted and see if it does the same thing there. if it does then we know its the libs for sure. i dont think it would be the modem. but you can also try just flashing a different modem on top of the rom you have now and see if that works.
edit: now that i think about it the easiest way to narrow down whether its the radio or libs is to do this.
- be on the rom that isnt working for you (cm9 w/uclf6 libs and uclf6 modem)
- flash a known working modem for you (ucle2, uclf3, etc.)
- see if it works
- if it doesnt work. flash a cm9 nightly with the ucle2 libs. see if that works.
- if it does work then flash the uclf6 modem on top of that and see if it works.
thats the easiest way to determine whether its the modem or the libs

[JB] wpa_supplicant for adhoc wifi networks

I've been trying a few JellyBean roms and they work quite smoothly I must say
but one feature that is still missing for me is the hability to connect to adhoc networks just like in old modded ICS roms.
I've patched and recompiled Team EOS3 wpa_supplicant that allows to see adhoc networks.
(although it should be the same source for other JB roms most likely too)
Unfortunately using Roach's default kernel it still doesn't list adhoc networks,
by using Guevor's kernel V23-JB-EOS it is able to list them.
However it is timing-out while trying to connect to it. :\
I'm not sure, but it might be related to the wifi module that comes with the rom / kernels.
If anyone knows what else should be changed in order to get it to work, feel free to contribute
It'd be nice to get it working on JB again
If you want to give it a try and report what works or doesn't work with each rom / kernel combination of your choice, I've attached the modified wpa_supplicant.
To test:
- turn off wifi
- su and remount /system rw
- mv /system/bin/wpa_supplicant /system/bin/wpa_supplicant.ori
- gunzip the file
- cp wpa_supplicant /system/bin/
- chmod 755 /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
- turn wifi back on.
If you want to switch back to the previous wpa_supplicant:
- turn off wifi
- mv /system/bin/wpa_supplicant.ori /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
- turn on wifi

I know this is for Transformer so my post is pretty off topic, but this actually is the first modified wpa_supp that allows me to turn on wifi again on Nexus S with stock JB. Unfortunately it doesn't show me ad hoc network either
The only ICS ROM that works in adhoc mode for me is Revolver. I have tried Guevor and Harmnony kernels and they both work. I wish I knew more to help the cause. Ricardopvz started to work with me to fix this in Megatron but he got sidetracked and never continued. I suppose someone could look at the driver in Revolver to see how that one works and see if the changes can be ported to JB.
Adhoc tethering is important to me because my old Droid-1 can't tether to my tablet in infrastructure mode. Bluetooth tethering is slow and inconvenient. Thanks for carrying the flag on this. I will try to help with the testing.

Ah yeah, glad it could help still
I don't think wpa_supplicant is much different from rom to rom, so good to know that one works on Nexus S too.
Next is to figure out what might be missing either in the rom or in the wifi module or such...

I have the same problem with my Nokia phone, it can only do adhoc network for sharing its 3G connection.
I can connect fine through it with bluetooth from a PC too, but android is not able to see the modem through bluetooth unfortunately.
So I definitely need adhoc to work
Maybe Ricardopvz or someone could participate for the JB roms if they have an idea what to modify next, I can have a look too.
I'll have a look in what could be changed in the BCM wifi driver in the meantime.
This makes the RaymanFX CM10 ROM see ad-hoc's but timeout on connect. Hope someone will fix this as ad-hoc is kind of necessary for me
theres a few things that have to in place for ad-hoc connections to work. just modifying the wpa_supplicant is not the answer. first the linux kernel on your device has to have CONFIG_NETFILTER, CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES, and CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_MAC features. These are required for tethering (ad-hoc) to work in linux/android. also binaries like iwconfig will need to be included. ad hoc connections from droid to droid are sketchy and flaky because there are so many different kernels, wireless cards, and third party apps on so many different devices. I see why so many people dont like to use bluetooth tethering. typical cellular data service data transfer rates are much slower than the theoretical limits of Bluetooth, making the potential higher bandwidth of WiFi irrelevant.
these are the theoretical maximum speeds for various Bluetooth versions
Bluetooth Basic Rate (BR) 1Mbit/s
Bluetooth 2 Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) 2-3Mbit/s
Bluetooth 3 + HS (high Speed) 24MBit/s
So on the face of it, Wifi will normally give you a faster connection however the limitation is probably going to be the speed of your phone's data connection.

Well, what I'm trying to achieve here is connect to an existing adhoc network which would already be doing the NAT, so you wouldn't need any of that on the client tablet.
Android doesn't use iwconfig by default.
Netfilter/iptables support would be in cases you'd in addition want to share your internet connection through the tablet.
For connecting to an existing adhoc network, it mostly boils down to wpa_supplicant and the kernel wifi driver, and maybe some android-space process
But seeing that it times-out while trying to connect even by using directly wpa_cli commands, that should eliminate the android space process from the loop.
That should leave only wpa_supplicant and the wifi driver.

Didnt break the wifi card, but everything acted like the original file. No ad-hoc.
With the file i can see the ad-hoc networks around but can not connect them...

I've been trying a few JellyBean roms and they work quite smoothly I must say
but one feature that is still missing for me is the hability to connect to adhoc networks just like in old modded ICS roms.

USB tether / Wifi hotspot issues with embryo rom.

Hey all im pretty new here, anyways this is my problem.
I currently have embryo rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855349
My girlfriend and I both use the wifi hotspot and tether alot when we are out. anyways long story short when i use the embryo rom with the wifi hotspot i noticed that many flash pplications on my laptop will not work, abc.com says that data is getting blocked.
When i try other custom roms i dont always get those message, the unnamed rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815263 works just fine with tethering/wifi hotspot.
I tried different radios and a couple different kernels with mohans embryo rom trying to get it working but needless to say im still getting this error that content is being blocked.
It happens during wifi tether and usb tether.
Sorry for being newb.
