[Q] Rooting a B70 on ics - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've searched on the forum but I haven't founded a post which will answer to my problem.
I have an asus eee pad transformer TF101. It's a B70 and i'm on ICS. So I would like to root it and install ubuntu on dual boot. Is it possible ? Can you give me a (simple) tutorial because i'm new on android.
Thanks!asus ee

I second this question, but for a B90. I'm not new to rooting android devices but the forums are a mess and I don't have time to dig through hundreds of pages looking for clues to the correct way. Anybody who's been keeping up on the transformer scene and can post a link or two to the relevant guides, I'd appreciate it.

The easiest way to root is with vipermod which can be found in the transformer prime section. Use option 1 to root.
Ubuntu is much more dificult especially on b70+ because of the locked secure boot key but it is still possible. I believe the tutorial is in the general form but i am not quite sure. This can easily cause an unrecoverable brick so be warned

[q] b70/b80 nvflash version?

I see that some developers have the newest NVFLASH for the B70 and B80 models.
1. What is the version number?
2. If this is one of the best selling tablets why is not more support or more outcries seeking NVFLASH?
3. What would one do if the tablet needed to be reflashed? Would ASUS expect us to send it back? They wouldnt help us over the phone?
I hope to just get answers and no comentary on the questions - this is the Q&A forum, right.
P.S. It would be great if if all threads would be cleansed of unnecessary comments that serve no purpose. Sometimes threads berate the user and have nothing to do with the original post. If a developer posts a kernel or rom with instructions and some has a problem because they did not follow instructions then that should be considered a useless post. If the instructions needed correcting then that could occur stating they were updated and then the having problems post could be deleted. It sure would make threads more useful.
This is considered a useless post because it has been asked and answered hundreds of times and is itself adding to the clutter of worthless threads. Why not find 1 of the numerous B70,B80 threads and post in ther instead of adding yet another thread that will show up in a search with the 100 other threads
searched eveywhere for the version number and dont see it. Your response is what I am talking about. Wouldnt it be more constructive to provide a answer instead of berating a user? Wouldnt't be great if threads had just solutions?
Wouldn't it be great if you actuaslly followed the rules of xda and used the search button? Then I wouldn't have to berate you for beeing a worthless n00b
1) b70+s does not require a newer version of nvflash. b70s have a different key. no one has that key yet.
2) nvflash (at least in terms of the TF) is not intended to be a user tool. so whatever outcry you're looking for for the new keys are not gonna yield you any results.
3) the way the system partition is protected, it's not typical you would need to reflash a factory rom. the only way to screw it up is through a failed update. and typically reflashing the update would fix that. so it's not typical (under normal use...that means no custom roms, etc.) that you would need nvflash to fix your TF. and if you do need it, yes, you would have to send it back to Asus.

No, NVFlash is still not compatible with B80 or any SBK v2 devices.
B70+ tablets can already be rooted using nachoroot and are able to run custom roms, I'm doing just that myself right now. The only thing we are missing out on is the added level of brick protection that nvflash gives.
Can i install linux on my B80 tablet??? I want to use a Plasma active MMC image... Will it be installed ?

No, eMMC repartitioning requires nvflash. And I applaud you for bumping a 5 month old thread instead of reading some more of the results of your search that you most likely used to find this thread.

[Q] How to unlock TF700 on JB

Hi everyone,
I've been slowly easing myself into the world of TF700 mods. I've been reading up A LOT on how to root, unlock, flash custom ROMs, etc. So far, I've started out by simply rooting my TF700. I figure this is a good way to get a feel for all this stuff without taking too much of a risk. After rooting, I updated to the latest JB via OTA, while keeping root (using OTA Rootkeeper).
But as I get more and more comfortable, I'm wanting more and more to get into flashing of custom ROMs. My understanding is that the bootloader needs to be unlocked to do this. The problem is, after scouring the internet, I've been unable to figure out how to unlock my tablet while on JB. Can anyone point me to an explanation of how to do this? Or will I HAVE to revert to ICS in order to do this (as I had to in order to root my JB device in the first place)?
Thanks a lot!
You have to use a different search engine, my friend!
The answers to your questions are right in this forum, and the relevant threads are at the top in this General section as stickies
Check out the Official Asus TF700 all-in-one thread by Pretoriano80 and also his index of tools (you'll need those later).
While you're at it start reading the CleanRom Inheritance Help thread by Thibor69 and in general: start browsing here, get familiar with the lingo, use the search function if you're interested in a particular topic (although - I have to admit the forum search engine su..., ahem - could be better. Using Google search and selecting the xda threads showing there is what I usually do).
Well, and then, if you really, really have searched high and low, far and wide, and cannot find the answer to your question, there are many, many very knowledgeable people here just dying to help you out
Welcome to the club...
Oh! And to answer your question: You have to use the Asus Unlock tool, you can use it in JB, no reason to revert to ICS.
If you successfully rooted you won't find the process to unlock, install a custom recovery and flash a custom rom too challenging.
Loosing the warranty sucks, yes. But only a custom rom will unlock the full potential of this tablet.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I've definitely read the all-in-one thread ad noseum (which is how I figured out how to root my device). The thing that I was not able to find an answer to anywhere was whether the Asus unlock tool would work on JB. In fact, all the notices I came across indicated that it would only work with ICS. This is why I was confused as to how people on JB could still unlock their TF700 without reverting to ICS.
So you're saying that, while rooted and on JB (10.4.4.25), the standard Asus TF700 unlock tool will work? Is this generally accepted?
Also, thanks for the suggestion to check out the CleanRom Inheritance Help thread - this will probably be my next in the education process.
Thanks again... really appreciate it!

Yes, the ASUS provided unlock tool from their own very website will work!
I myself just used in on Saturday. I just rooted my Infinity last week with a great success using the CROMI and I love it!
Follow those instructions to the letter. However, I did find that the same software that is used in the youtube video was a bit easier to understand and navigate through. I'm a visual person, so I was doing it step by step with the video. I didn't want to brick a 2 month old device.
Good luck!
Okay. Interesting that Asus have not updated their instructions to indicate that the unlock tool also works for JB - the instructions on the Asus website clearly state that it only work on ICS.
Splitz: Sorry to belabour the subject, but did you unlock your TF700T while it had JB installed on it?
Has Asus just not updated their instructions?
Thanks!

Yes, I unlocked it using the Asus tool with JB installed.
I saw a post around here somewhere (In the DEV thread) that confirmed the tool works with both ICS bootloader as well as JB which is why I risked it.
I'm going to assume that ASUS just won't officially say it will unlock the JB bootloader.
Actually, it has been mentioned quite a few times that the unlock tool works on JB as well.

Ya, I've now come across some of these other mentions through searching for info on tangential topics. Sorry if I asked a redundant question here - I did try my best to answer it myself before doing so, however.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Sorry to hijack the thread but I was wondering if this will work on JB 4.1.1 with Build Number 10.4.4.18?

Hey, no problem. Better to ask redundant questions than to brick your device. Geen zorgen. (<< Dutch, translates as "no worries")

Yes. The unlock tool is actually the same for the Tf101, TF201 and TF700 and has never been changed as far as I know. So, go ahead and unlock.

So can I unlock...and then root easily under JB?
So, I was intending to root my precious TF700, exactly when the warranty expires...As for it, I was keping my TF700 on ICS, but two days before the warranty expiration, my cat upgraded my device to JB...(seriously, my cat did that...She slept over the dock and go fgure how, authorized the upgrade...)
Now...well I don't mind JB, I'm actually liking it a lot, but I still want to root (to install Titanium Backup). I just don't want to downgrade...
If I use the Asus Unlock Tool (as said that works under JB) and then use the method listed in the All-In-One Guide (that links for this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929712), it will work and we will be ok, me & TF700?

rooting my transformer tab

Hi
I'm planning to root (not flashing) my Asus Transformer Tab. I read a lot of guides and posts around here but they confused me a hell of a lot. I've already unlocked my device, but now I wonder what to do!
Device information:
build-number: JOP40D_WW_epad-10.6.1.27.1-20130711
androidversion: 4.2.1
Could someone write me a step-per-step guide for this device?
Many thanks

[Q] PFI a86 and Roms

Hi Guys
I have been following these xda forums for a while now but never registered until now. Please forgive me if this is the wrong section to post this under, any moderators feel free to move if need to, I am fairly new to android, I have an android tablet Asus TF101 and used a guide on here to root. a while back.
After a long wait I have finally gotten a new phone after having an old nokia 5800, well still waiting for it to be delivered, the new Padfone Infinity a86 I have searched and searched for methods to root the device, but can not seem to find any, at least any that seem legitimate does any one know if there is a root method available for it?
Second after looking into and rooting my tablet I would quite like to get into custom roms, but not quite confident in that area yet as I do not have the know how to fix it incase I brick it, Is there any youtube videos/channels anyone can reccomend I can watch. and rom manager is that worth looking at as I did hear some decent things about that.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Kind Regards
Majon.
