What about an odin flash counter? I just got a charge for my gf and we have a builtin counter on the skyrocket. Just curious if Samsung also has one in the charge

Make sure F. Reset Time is checked in Odin and it will reset the counter to 1 on every flash.

First, see above. The F. Reset Time option is to reset the system time back to what it would be if it was without power for a significant period of time. There is no way AFAIK to reset the flash counter on devices that have one.

My wife's Samsung Exhibit II 4G has a broken USB port so I am getting a warranty replacement from T-mobile.
I rooted her phone, installed CWM Recovery and a custom ROM.
Few questions:
1. Does T-mobile check for root or custom installs?
1a. If so, is there anyway to return the phone to stock without access to ODIN?
I have done a factory reset and wiped /system from within CWM Recovery
2. What else can I do?
Do you have backup of stock OS?If you do then try restoring to it.

Mobile Odin Pro could flash the stock firmware for you. After that you'll probably need to get a jig to clear your counter on your phone. All carriers check to see if you phone is rooted before servicing.

Assuming your wife's phone is remotely similar to mine, in download mode on the top left corner there are some stats on whether you have flashed a custom kernel or anything. You need a jig to clear those stats. Also using the jig will remove the yellow triangle upon boot on rooted phones, I'm not sure how your phone works though but they are pretty similar.

Isn't that only for some Samsung devices? Do all Samsung phones have that counter?
My camera crapped on my 7 week old SR. Keeps FCing. ATT is sending me a refurb. Before I took it to my ATT store I ran Odin and think I'm back to stock. I'm a newb, though, so I wanna be sure before I send my phone to them.
I'll wipe again before I send it to remove personal info. Is there any way ATT can know I rooted or flashed to deny warranty coverage?

yup, silver's right
Nice catch. The ATT store folks first did a soft wipe and when that didn't fix the camera did a USB reinstall. Sounds like they didn't touch the modem though.
It's hard to believe they would hang me on that, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Get the Odin tar from samfirmware.com it restores the phone back to factory including the baseband. But if your flash count went up they might catch that.

So there is a log of flashes that is saved? I woulda thought a wipe and restore wipes everything. Don't like the sound of that.

Yeah, there is a flash counter. You will see it when you enter DL mode.
Using a jig to get into download mode will prevent you from tripping the flash counter.
If you've used Odin previously or flashed any custom kernels in cwm your count will be 1 or greater. If not, definitely use a jig and keep the counter at 0.
If you're over 0, don't worry, try anyways. As stated, I've yet to see anyone get called out on the flash counter on a warranty exchange...

That's what I thought until I flashed DaG's custom CM7 kernel. Flashing a custom kernel in cwm can in fact trip the counter.
It appears that most "stock-ish" kernels do not trip the counter however...
Your camera FC'ing, did u ever think of doing a wipe, flash a diff ROM, fix permissions all in one session of using recovery?? That should've fixed it for you. FCin'g almost doesn't have anything to do with hardware failing; hardware fails would probably cause more serious issues like black screens, automatic power offs, overheating, etc.

Speaking of RMA and warranty, would AT&T/Samsung cover you even if you don't have the receipt? I'm thinking of buying a skyrocket for a family member off of eBay and most sellers don't have the receipts or refuse to include it. If the phone prematurely has a hardware failure I would want a replacement within the 1 year warranty period.
Samsung states that you must have the receipt for RMA but that's ridiculous. Don't they have on record when the phone was bought, etc like how Apple does it?
Anyone have experience with warranty dealings with AT&T or Samsung?
Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. I'm still noob at this.

Not all in one session. But both ATT and I wiped and flashed stock with same result.
I was rooted the ODIN way and had different roms (bean, synergy, and CM10) for the past 2 weeks. Today I lost 4g on all roms and could not get it back. So I ODIN back to stock thinking I get my 4G back but no luck, still stuck in 3G. I'm going to take it in tomorrow to see if I can get a new sim or a replacement.
Triangle Away app said I had 0 flashes. Anyway to check the flash count not being rooted? TIA
Restart phone while holding power+home+volume-down
When the thingy comes up, press the volume key to continue. No it won't raise your flash counter by doing this

You'll need to remove battery to get out of it when done. Alternatively, you can also look for triangle away app program on XDA and use that to show the flash count.

thank you boys. I have bought the Triangle Away app from the market to support the dev but that is for rooted devices. The ODIN/Download mode tells you of the count? Never new this, will try now.
edit: I don't see a count but the custom binary download says NO. Is that the count?
Yes. After 'Custom Binary Download' it will either say "NO" or "YES (x counts)."
Thanks. FYI, while in unrooted stock *2767*3855# fixed my 4G problem. This will reset to factory setting. The data/factory reset from the stock recovery didn't do it.
Does anyone know if there's a way to fix a dead battery? I brought the phone in after my phone wouldn't charge while being connected to power (kept on discharging even though it said "charging"). The phone won't turn on at all with the current battery using multiple cords and power sources. As I said, I brought the phone in to Best Buy where I have a protection plan and they tried a different battery which caused the phone to boot up. They ordered me a replacement battery over a week and a half ago and I have still not received it.
I was hoping there was some way of getting the dead battery to somehow charge again as I'm losing business because of this and apparently no one in town has the battery on hand for some stupid reason. The guy at Best Buy mentioned there were ways of making it charge again but said it was "unsafe". I'm not concerned with harming myself and will try anything. Any ideas would be wonderful.
You should order one through VZW Tech support. If you get lucky you could even just drop into a VZW store and they might just give you one.

Turns out it's not the battery at all but the charging port on the phone. So now a new problem has arisen. I have a custom ROM installed and cannot use my computer to use ODIN. Is there any way to flash back to stock without using ODIN? Could I use clockwork or anything?

It does work. I have used it multiple times. Just make sure your battery is at least 80% and you have an unlocked bootloader (required to use mobile Odin). If you don't have an unlocked bootloader use EzUnlock 1.2 (Must use 1.2)

Awesome. Thanks guys.
So I wanted to get a spare S3 back to stock so I could trade it in for an upgrade, so I Odin'd to the official 4.3 with NC1 locked bootloader, but forgot to reset the custom binary counter. Is there any way to reset custom binary counter once you are on a locked bootloader? Any help would be appreciated.
Any thoughts?

I have seen people who say you can use triangle away but I have also seen people who said triangle away doesn't work or bricks the phone on the locked bootloader. I am 99% sure it doesn't work and 100% sure you shouldn't try.

There is an option to reset this in Odin when you odin a stock image. And yes do not use triangle away on a locked bootlaoder. It will brick you. Do it in odin!

Not sure if I mentioned it previously, but I don't need to preserve anything on the phone. That being I didn't happen to notice the option in Odin, can you point me in the right direction? I appreciate it. Thanks for all your help.

Its a check box "F. Reset Time" under options.
Just use the vzw repair assistant. It will reset you phone to stock as well as killing off the counter. No need for odin. For the users that just want the custom padlock gone, wanam. Resets the flag to official.

Seeing that he doesn't need to preserve anything his best bet is Odin. The program you mention is unnecessary as it takes much longer and backs up his phone and he does not need to that.

Actually its straight forward, eadier to use, and has a check mark option to back up the phone. Its the same as using odin. I used it with out backing up my phone. Other users reported problems with using odin. Like the process stops. Never happened to me. Also the vzw tool put the phone in download mode. And I have to say for putting your phone back to stock and resetting the flash counter is better then odin.
