[Q] Some questions about radio compability and flashing over the air - HTC Inspire 4G

Hi all!
I want to flash my Inspire 4G to the DHD 2.3.5 official rom. Will I get issues(except being unable to use 3G) with device if I install official ICS update over the air in future?
In other words:
1). What version of update will I get: for Inspire or DHD one?
2). Will Inspire work with DHD radio?
3). Stock ROM of Inspire didn't have native support of most languages(there was only English and French). Will this ICS update reset support for other languages from the previous rom(2.3.5 for DHD)?
4). Will I have 4 or 1.5 Gb of memory available with DHD rom?

As far as we know our inspires will not get official ICS update. We are getting it from rooted imported roms from DHD.
If your phone is rooted DO NOT accept ota updates from at&t or you will be back asking how to repair your phone.
Someone may have a little more knowledge on whether you can flash the official DHD rom onto an unrooted inspire.

You have an Inspire. You cannot flash the Desire HD 2.3.5 ROM on your phone through OTA. You could install the RUU, but you would have to root your phone first.
Changing ROMs DOES NOT change your radio frequencies. You will get 3G no matter what ROM you install. The 3G is hardware and not software.
All Inspires and Desire HDs have the same internal memory. The 4GB was a white lie by ATT. All have 4GB before ANYTHING is flashed to the phone. But after the phone is flashed with a ROM and whatever there is under 1.4GB of useable memory for applications. If you went to storage in your settings you would see that you don't have 4GB.
The 2.3.5 update is not ICS. It is still Gingerbread but with Sense 3.0.
You have asked some of the most noob and common questions ever asked on the forum. Questions that have been asked since day 1. Please take the time to search before asking. You have much reading and searching to do.

[Q] n00b questions re: Desire HD Rom for Nexus/Desire

First post so go easy!!
I have an HTC Desire on T-Mobile (UK) running Android 2.2 with Sense.
After seeing the new features on the forthcoming Desire HD I'm keen to upgrade to the latest senseUI but I have a few questions.
1) From skimming a few threads I understand the camera and a few other features aren't available... Is this likely to be sorted soon so that the dev Rom will be indistinguishable from the offical Desire HD Rom?
2) Is there one HD rom or are there several being worked on? Which is the most stable / advanced / best?
3) How easy is the upgrade process? Is it risky and can you restore the phone to its official state easily?
4) Does it matter that I live in the UK? will the roms still work for UK phones or are they setup for US phones?
5) When people talk about different radio versions what are they talking about?

[Q] Upgrade HTC Aria 2.2

Should I root my phone first before upgrading to 2.2 or upgrade first then root?
If you're talking about the Over The Air (OTA) update that was announced, you should only upgrade with that if you don't want to root or customize anymore. For the moment, that OTA will take away root if you have it and you won't be able to get it back (for now).
If you're talking about upgrading to 2.2 using one of the ROMs posted here on XDA, then you need to root your phone in order to have the option to flash one of those onto your Aria.

Thanks that was very helpful! I'm going to root first them upgrade with one of the 2.2 ROMs here. I didn't know an OTA 2.2 update was out for the Aria already.
Well, it is and it isn't... it's available for non-branded Arias. AT&T hasn't released their version of the 2.2 update for the Aria, but when they do it will break your root access if you install it. At least temporarily. There's really no reason to use the official updates unless you need to return your Aria for some reason. Otherwise, you'll have more features using the custom ROMs here.
With the 2.2 upgrade for the Aria, were there any advancements on Adobe Flash?

No since this is an HTC Sense ROM, it still uses HTC Flash Lite just like the original ROM did. The Aria processor is not currently supported by Adobe Flash 10.x.
ok so I got a question. I have an ATT aria can I get the HTC 2.2 rom on my phone and then root my phone?
No, at the moment you can't. If you install the HTC OTA update you will lose root and be unable to get it back until one of the devs figures it out again. There are, however, plenty of Froyo ROMs to choose from, so you really don't need the HTC update to get 2.2.
Edit: Nevermind, looks like I spoke too soon. See this thread:

Thanks I have the Liberated rom on my phone right now. I'm just looking for a 2.2 Froyo that has the full bluetooth dialer support.

What's the best ROM out there right now? Which one would you recommend?

Currently, the two Froyo (Android 2.2) contenders for the Aria are CyanogenMod 6.1 and Liberated FR008.
Cyanogen offers a more unedited Android product with access to all sorts of settings and customization options. Liberated is more of a stock HTC Sense version of Android. Both ROMs are pretty much the creation of XDA member Attn1 who spends a ton of time developing for the Aria and here on the boards answerings questions.
The cool thing is that once you have rooted your Aria and installed Clockwork Mod Recovery, you can make a Nandroid back-up which will save your current setup along with all of your settings so that you can freely install these ROMs knowing that you can always safely return to your back-up if you don't like it. It's very... liberating!

[Q] HTC Update - software version 1.45.531.1 with S-off, Revolutionary, Perm Rooted?

Hello,
I am running stock rom with S-off, Revolutionary, and perm rooted. I have been out of the country and tried searching the forums but cant find an answer. I keep finding instead of updating, install a custom rom. I don't want to change roms, because with setcpu and anker 1900 battery; I am able to go 2 full days without a charge with heavy usage.
Can I install the update, or do I need to do something else first?
Is there steps on what I need to do?
Thanks for any help.
You would be better off searching the forums for a rooted version of the update. That way you can stay stock.

If No then pls list down the procedure for upgrade or downgrade respectively ?

You're on the wrong forum. This is the htc sensation forum!

will i get ICS

Hey everybody. I've very recently flashed the sense-o-maniac 3.5 ROM onto my HTC sensation but currently when i'm fiddling around in settings I see no option for checking for any updates. Will I ever recieve the update or will I have to put it back to stock or flash a fake version of ICS? Please Help.
If you want the official updates via OTA yes, you will have to get your phone back to stock, but the ICS you get by flashing a rom is, usually as good as the "official" one.
P.S: The roms are not "fake" ICS, are just ICS, pure android straight from what google releases

Telus DHD to get 2.3.5 Update with 3.0 Sense

Just noticed today that the Telus Desire HD (Same exact hardware as the Inspire with the 2 mics and same radio) is getting the Android 2.3.5 update with 3.0 Sense. This is good news I would imagine for Inspire Users. It means a base for the Inspire for 2.3.5 has been created with the correct drivers. Also it increases the chances that an official ATT Inspire build may just be released.

where to get the link ?
At this point I haven't seen an actual RUU yet. Although I assume it will soon surface. The update is being given by OTA at the present.
I just got the OTA update and applied it to the Telus ROM and it's running on my Inspire right now. Seems to work 100% out of the box. I'll put a rooted ROM together and hopefully have it out tomorrow.
Edit: Posted a rooted ROM from this here:
