Hey guys
Current custom ROMs that are built on pure android firmware lack some important applications that are originally supported in i9003. So, I preferred to open this topic to discuss all features of i9003 that come pre installed in stock ROMs by Samsung.
So, I think these custom ROMs shall have:
1- FM Radio app.
2- SamsungApps.
3- Swype keyboard.
4- MyFiles.
5- "Write and go" and "Memo" apps.
Please mention other needed apps.
Thank you
They are removed for a reason . Most of the users dont like samsung bloatware (as its call it) . And ive personally have never used those mentioned by you. But you can use Root explorer anytime to push the apk's to system/app and use them.
Cheers !!
Yeah I know that fact
But do apps of the gingerbread version work fine on ICS? I did already extract them, but unfortunately, no ICS to test them
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA
BTW, I do really extensively use them, especially swype, but maybe one can install swype from extracted apk.
Thanks.

Swype
I am all for Swype to be pre-installed in custom apps.
Swype is removed from most of the custom roms because of its large size that is 12 mb and it covers unnecessary space and most of the users did not want samsung apps thats why they are removed and if you want all these then use stock rom instead of custom rom and fm radio is present in most of the custom roms
12 MB is large size?? Anyways, although one can install swype beta from swype[dot]com, it is still preferred to integrate the one came with original i9003, as I think it is optimized, and is well localized, especially right to left languages. I love the "Go Keyboard" app, but still, current version has problems in T9.
Well, thank you for your assistance anyway

Because my ROM makes "Sense" ...
About this ROM:
My ROM is designed for the users, who like me enjoys the "Sense" UI and enjoys the stock rom or wants a stock base to work off of. This ROM is tweaked to add some features that come in custom ROMS and keeps it simple for those of us that do not need all of the amazing eye candy, also for those who does not like all of the added crap that come shipped in most carrier ROMs, this rom is customizable because you can remove most of the apps that is NOT attached to Sense or Android and that will NOT break system components. The design of the ROM is to be a big improvement over the stock experience.
Features:
1. The following apps can be removed is so desired.
Amazon MP3 Store
Sprint TV and Widget
Sprint Football
Sprint Nascar
Sprint Navigation
Facebook For Android
HTC Mobile Evo Guide
Qik
Sprint Zone
Quickoffice
2.Apps2sd (Thanks Darktremor) original thread can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715938&highlight=apps2sd
3. Deodexed which means that the image is themeable some themes can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=655
4. Many scripts and code added like compcache, dalvik2cache, apps2sd, zipalign ........
Warning:
1. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PHONE "Rooted" TO USE THIS Image.
2. This Image will wipe your data however a data wipe is always recommended before you flash any ROM.
READ ME: This ROM is designed to be fully functional meaning that everything works with no workarounds. The design of this ROM is "traditionally stock-like" and "as is" please do not ask about adding or removing a feature or program, if you enjoy this ROM and want to use it as a base for your ROM by all means do so but please give credit where credit is due .........
This ROM may update frequently as I learn the architecture of "android" and this device, feedback is cool, but not all will be taken into consideration ..... Enjoy

Every one of the apps you listed in #1 can be and have always been able to be removed without breakin sense... always.
You said any app can be removed without breaking others... i can bet you differently. Sense is sense... there are things you just cant remove
Any odex or deodex rom and using root explorer can just delete those apps and a ton more.
My advise is to make a barebones one.
Right now, if i read your post correctly... everything is still there.. so what makes it ... what ever your calling it.
Not hating. Just stating a fact
And i dont see how this rom is any different from a stock rom other than you included apps on the sd card we can install...
Just asking thats all

the stock rom for this phone unlike many was very good not very bloated and functional the only thing I was doing was sharing my stock experience with the community but on the technical aspects my rom is different from the stock because it has many tweaks to it for even more functionality. I mean I'm just trying to figure out what kind of a chair you are sitting on claiming your facts ? anyway if you use any rom beside a open source rom, sense is integrated so deeply into the android core os that removing part of it most certainly breaks something in settings or a system dependant component. for example use a rom that has sense removed and go to your settings in the personalize section and see how many you can get it to force close? With my rom nothing is broke everything works plus .... say if you use this rom install some apps from your sd that you have .... and you decide to use another rom then reflash this one the apps you installed will be there already re-installed ... I dont believe the stock rom does that. So instead of trying to inpose your opinionated facts to me why don't you do us all a favor and read, if you don't like what you see then move on.
Thank you
JD

Hi,
I just installed Vortex's Custom Rom but there are a couple of other apps that were on the stock version that I'd like to have, including swype. I got a copy of all the stock apps for .602 and swype is in there along with some other apps like DLNA, it has both and APK and the ODYK files. I've tried to install swype through the phone but it constantly crashes.
Can someone tell me how to install these apps back onto the custom rom?
Thanks.
You can get swype using the swype beta install... Google it

How about the stock music app? Not really diggin the google one..
Thanks!
I'm just asking because since rooting and trying out CM7 and EB 2.3.7 last fall I have been using the Swype beta as mentioned.
Now that I've learned a bit more about how these devices and their ROMS work, I was just curious if anyone knows if the preinstalled Swype will work on a CM7-based ROM.
The reason I ask is that I'm getting sick of the bar for word suggestions in the Swype beta always staying there even after you've selected a word. I have all word-suggestion related settings disabled but it doesn't go away and the original version didn't leave it up.
Guess worst-case I could just use Titanium backup to backup and delete the beta, then pull the original version off my first backup of the OTA 2.3.3 update ROM and install it on EB 2.3.7 right?
not sure if the original will work but ive been using swype from here.. V5 beta not for galaxy nexus... some pretty cool ones and ive had no problems with it.

Hello all!
I'm new here so first of all a massive hello to everyone here!
I own a Samsung Galaxy Ace and also a Samsung Galaxy 3 (Apollo GT-i5801). My Ace is fine as it is but the i5801 sucks!
Anyway basically I want to know what the best options are for the i5801... Mainly which ROM is best for it... I've seen Kyrillos is this the best ROM to go with?
My phone is currently running: ECLAIR.BVJF4 / Kernel 2.6.29 / Firmware 2.1-update1
Basically all I need to know is:
It has horrible stock apps which bug the hell out of me, in fact the Ace has these too how can you remove them?
Which ROM is best (by best I mean best features, minimal bugs, good GPS lock...)
Are there any other modifications anyone can recommend for this device?
Thanks for your time everyone! :good:

You have to root your phone using z4root app (search it in google) if you're on android 2.1 or superoneclick root which is a computer program if you're on android 2.2. Then after it's rooted, download an app called titanium backup, allow it root access, then press the menu button in the app, click on batch and click on uninstall system apps or something similar.
Kyrillos 9.6 is a very stable ROM, has none or very little/minimal bugs and has a good GPS lock reported by many users. I would recommend flashing Kyrillos 9.0 and updating to 9.6 as it's less hassle then rooting and adding your own modifications. After flashing Kyrillos ROM you may want to enable hybrid data2sd so search for information about that in the forum if you want to but basically, it gives you more internal memory for apps.
<<< Press the thanks button on the left if i helped xD

My Galaxy Ace and Galaxy 3 are both rooted but I didn't know about Titanium Backup! That is just what I needed so thank you so much for the info!!!
I will give Kyrillos 9.6 a whirl I guess

If you want to use your Galaxy 3 daily, then I highly recommend you to use stock Froyo (JPS) ROM + Fugumod v2.4 Beta 3 (or Ultra version). I've found some FC bugs in Kyrillos' ROM too and the theme works kinda slow (no offence to dev). But yes, you can still give it a try. Also, if you're interested, you can also try my ROM (Purumod, link below)...my brother been using it since last month and everything worked perfectly.

Yeah i do want to use it near enough daily (its going to be my business mobile) To be honest the bigggest issue was the apps I thought i would have to redo the ROM and everything to get that to work but it would appear that program sorts it all out so i may not even need to flash it!

Just for the first time but then you can tell your friends to order and you can get extra £5's  Also, it's free calls and texts to anyone who is using giffgaff for three months when you top up £10. That offer happens every time you top up.
Anyway, back on topic, Kyrillos framework is very smooth and i'm using fugumod 2.4 :good: The only issue I have with Kyrillos is low internal memory but i don't install loads of apps so it's not to much of a problem. Also, Kyrillos ROM has quite a few unique features since he's been developing for nearly a year on his ROM so it's quite advanced whereas purumod is quite new and not as advanced but just as stable. Purumod has more internal memory without using app2sd etc. I have used both of them long term and they're both awesome. You'll have to decide yourself.
Also, about stock JPS, it's quite good as well but why use stock when we have perfectly stable froyo 2.2 ROM's with are a million times faster?

Awesome! Yeah I love GiffGaff! I use them on my Galaxy Ace they are excellent!
I re rooted my phone as it was flagging errors and also installed Titanium Backup and now all the dodgy apps are gone!! Its sooooo much faster now its fantastic! can't thank you enough for your info!
I also ran SGS Unlock 1.3 again on it and it successfully unlocked the phone this time (must of had a dodgy root last time?)

This is a interesting point... My phone is now very quick it hardly has any apps on it (which is all it needs to do, my Ace does all the cool apps n stuff) so it's really nice as is but i do like the idea of tinkering with it with other ROM's.
What other benefits are there over the stock ROM's?

Thanks! It was plagued with issues to start, just trying to get a flashable zip of the stock ROM together was a nightmare, and since there wasn't one any where on the internet to use as a base, well... had no choice but to make one. I flashed it on my Discover today and it worked flawlessly.
By the way, I didn't make the OC script. It was FitAmp, the credits should go to him.
What launcher did you use? and good job on making a working rom for it, I had been messing around with trying to cook one in the kitchen app for the SS730G. I may give that one a shot with flashing this one, the stock rom on it is having issues anyways as when I try to shut it down it reboots 9 times out of 10.

Launcher pro, the only launcher I will use since I bought my first droid, runs clean and light. There's always the option to change to whatever launcher you like, for me, on this phone, runs the smoothest and that's what I'm going for here. Many changes still to come!
Kitchen is a great tool for learning AS LONG as you take a look at every change you implement with kitchen, in the update or updater script itself. The one thing about it is, that if you fully rely on kitchen, even if it does work, you won't learn a thing. All of the changes kitchen makes, can be made in terminal and text editor (Linux) to give you some hands on experience

I'm partial to the Nova Launcher myself, but I know what you mean. While the stock launcher is better than the standard Samsung Touchwiz crap, it definitely could use a speed increase on this phone.
I keep hoping and dreaming that someone will be able to port KitKat to this phone. I just flashed the current SlimKat rom on my Nexus S and I'm impressed with how fast the Google Now launcher performs on it. Maybe with this one overclocked to 1GHz and it having 512 megs of ram which I think is a little more than the Nexus S had it would make a different.

Kit Kat was built to run on 512mb, from everything I've heard it utilizes memory way better than any other version yet. I'm going to look at porting ROMs to this device, but one project at a time . It should be possible though. Even if I can port a stock 4.4.2 and start customizing from there, I think this phone would benefit tremendously from it, more so then newer more powerful devices.

I flashed my 730G with this rom, so far it looks good. I may switch the launcher to a different one but other than this it looks and appears to run fine. I can't test the radio at the moment as my net10 sim is cut down to nano size and I can't find my regular sim to nano sim adapter. I know I have one but finding it will be the fun part.
Double check the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS etc, make sure they turn on and work. They should as they work fine on the 730m, but you never know. I haven't seen the build.prop for the G

And check your root too. If root works than the rooting process is the same for both. Just open root browser and if it asks for superuser access you're golden. Plan to add terminal and cpu tuner in the next update.

The wi-fi and GPS appear to work fine. I still haven't been able to find my nano to regular size sim adapter. I wound up replacing launcher pro with nova launcher, and I also installed Titanium backup which I used to integrate the google keyboard. After I switched over to it, I froze the samsung keyboard which was a pain in the ass to have to work with. You may want to look into switching the keyboard if you have a preference in a future release. I really like the google keyboard myself.

I've considered switching the default launcher to nova, or I should say I've tried to. I've had issues with everything I've tried, except launcher pro, and lightning launcher. Lighting launcher is actually extremely fast and lightweight, I think the app itself is less the a MB, but its far different than your standard, familiar style of launcher so I opted out. I've tried solo, which is nearly identical to nova, except there's no pro version, all "pro" features are entirely free. I've also tried KK launcher, again very similar to nova, but all three of them will not load after the initial setup screen. Just don't work well as system apps. Loading them into the data partition should solve this problem, but they install with a file size of 0 MB, and again, won't actually load. All of them work fine when installed from the market, or from an apk, just haven't had luck packaging them with the ROM. I'll look into the keyboard thing. I prefer Swype, but given it's a paid app, I can't really incorporate it, and I don't want to just include a 30 day trial app in the ROM. I'll keep plucking away at it tho. Thanks a ton for your input

ok I just wiped it and went thru setup, it worked with no issues with the samsung keyboard and the nova launcher as system apps. maybe this will help for customizing the rom further? Also it might be a good idea to remove the updater app just to be safe. While I don't think that they would ever push out a rom update for the samsung S730M or S730G it might cause issues if someone who didn't know better used the updater app and downloaded a rom update. It may not be an issue, but I figured it was worth mentioning
I wanted to give an update. I was able to successfully use your rom as a base to make my own custom rom. I had to extract the updater script binary from yours to drop into the appropriate folder in my working folder. I'm going to do a little more fine tuning on what apps I want to include but I should have it ready to share soon.
Also, I finally found my adapter so I was able to read my Net10 sim in my S730G, other than it not having the correct APN which I had to manually enter It worked with no problems once I setup the APN, full signal and no issues with downloading anything once the APN was setup.
OK I've finished the 1.0 version of my rom. it can be found here
Thanks but
before I flash this I want to know if anyone knows where I can download the odin flashable stock firmware for this device. So glad that this is out though but this phone is only 4 months old for me still got 8 months for something to go horribly wrong with it
Thanks! Overall OK.

There is no Odin flashable ROM for this phone. I do have there stock flashable zips tho. Worst case scenario, you Odin flash recovery, then flash the stock zip via cwm. I've been working on CM 9, and have not been able to get it to work, but no matter how many times I've flashed it, I can always flash back to stock via recovery, haven't bricked yet

following!
I'm new to flashing in general so I am just learning what the process entails, but I just put CM11 onto an N7 '13 and I am very impressed with what people are doing. I also have a sluggish Samsung Discover so I'm very interested in how this work proceeds!
Best of luck everyone and thank you Atmu5fear, hopefully I can share my experience soon as well.
