Q. So I've just got my shiny new One S..... How do i unlock the bootloader ??
A. Congrats First step to unlocking bootloader is via HTCDev which can be found HERE You must make an account first and select your model (if model is not shown select 'All other supported models').. Instructions are on there
Q. Awesome. How do i use ADB ??
A. Check out THIS thread for in depth details with pics. (Credits to MLIGN for creating this)
Q. Ok so I know how to use ADB, I have unlocked Bootloader, How do i get CWM Recovery + Root ??
A. To get CWM + Root please look HERE (Credits to TORXX for creating this)
Q. Ok, Now I Have **TAMPERED** In Bootloader, Does this mean the world is going to end ?
A. No the world will not end, Not today anyway, **TAMPERED** is Normal when using custom software, Such as ROMs / Recovery, It will disappear when you revert to stock. Also, If you get SECURITY WARNING, This is also normal(ish) You will have to relock bootloader and run an RUU to restore equilibrium in the universe
Q. Help my phone is in a bootloop and I can't remove the battery
A. Ok calm down, Hold down the Power button for 10 - 15 seconds... This should force a reboot
Q. Thanks, You're Awesome. Now Where can I find a Custom ROM ??
A. I know, All custom ROMs are in the Development Section found HERE
We have no Kernel Source Code yet, So not everything is possible. Please be patient
Q. Oh if only there was such tool that could make this whole process much simpler.....?
A. Well my friend its your lucky day ! Check out this awesome tool HERE (Credits to HASOON2000 for making this)
Q. My phone is faulty... How can i get it back to stock before sending it for repair ??
A. To go back to stock, Run an RUU (available in Development section) If you cannot find one that matches your CID, Extract the rom.zip from the RUU and modify the android-info.txt, Re package it and flash the rom.zip in recovery, WE NOW HAVE SUPERCID, CHANGE TO WHATEVER YOU LIKE TO GET THE RUU WORKING !!.
Q. Help, I did some crazy **** and now I'm in a boot-loop with no ROM on my SD to flash !!
A. Ok, Firstly WHAT THE HELL !!! Secondly, Calm down, Try a full factory reset, or restore a nandroid if you have one, If that fails, Look at THIS guide on how to push files / Flash ROMs via ADB.
Q. Ok, Thanks, But that didnt work, I have error mounting SD card, I think its a brick.
A. Ok, Slap your self in the face 3 times, then stub your toe ! Now look at THIS guide on how to fix your issue
Q. Is this all the FAQ's Done with ??
A. No I will continue to update the FAQ's When they become more.....erm Frequent,
TIP: Always Check MD5 Checksums match on flashable .zip files.. Download MD5 Checker HERE

Hi,
Great idea...

Is it known how well the camera will work in a stock ICS ROM, ie Cyanogen etc? What with it using the ImageSense chip and all. Will drivers be an issue?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA

Way to start the thread off !! you couldnt have asked a simple question could you lol
I dont think its clear to anyone yet how the camera will be on CM9 - Theres a link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594470 To CM9 ROM for the One S, But hardly anything is working yet, Including Camera..
I guess its down to the developer of the CM9 ROM and the code & drivers they use, But as for now its anyone's guess...
This phone hasnt been released still in some parts of the world, So at the moment development is slow..

OK how about this one: 5GHz 802.11n WLAN support? The spec sheet on htc.com is kinda light on details.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA

Yes HTC One S supports that !
Check here http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_s-4574.php

Cant find that info on gsmarena, it states 802.11n support but not if 2.4 only or 2.4/5GHz...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA

I thought 'N' Was 5ghz ?
802.11n works in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, it is compatible with legacy 11a and 11b/g users

No, it can be either 2.4 or 5. 5 is better as 2.4 is very polluted with microwaves from various devices, also bluetooth operates in the similar if not the same range, so you get worse wifi connection when using wifi and bt simultaneously.
No idea wherever One S supports 5Ghz though. I guess some info on it will pop out sooner or later.

Most likely there will be massive problems due to proprietary drivers for image chip.

Ok so ive got a question.
What radios are currently available with the One S ?? I got the One S because of signal issues with my Sensation.
Signal is better with this device, But Still not full bars like it was on my SGS... Im on a 'test' period where i can test the device for 7 days before committing to it.
Id like to test some other radios and see whether it improves my signal

I think its a good idea too. We had a similar thread over on the sensation forums. It was incredible. Every one chipped in to help each other like one big team
Id like the same thing to happen to this thread.

My router only supports wireless n on 5 ghz and my s can't see the network . So unless I'm missing some setting it does not support 5 ghz

Hmmmm... It seems you're right !! My router supports both 2.4 & 5ghz
I switched it to 5ghz, It disconnected, I switched it back to 2.4ghz It connected straight away..
Looks like the One S doesn't support 5ghz Wireless. Bit of a bummer really.. Ive had this 5ghz router 6 months, I dont own a single thing what supports it lol

Sometimes (maybe always?) when you enable 5Ghz 802.11n on a wireless router/access point it will be as a separate SSID and you have to set it up with security etc. This is the case with Netgear WNDR3700 (DD-WRT) at least.

My HTC One S just died on me and somehow I can't turn it on again. I was just playing GLWG and it got really hot, then left it for a minute, the screen turned out and when I turned it on again, the screen was strange, so I tried to restart it by long pressing the power button. It turned off and now it only blinks five times when I try to turn it on. Somebody got an Idea?

The PRL ROM project

This is a simple project I'm working on for asop users who frequently switch from sprint to Verizon prl's. No point in restoring a big sense rom just for one little task. I've started with senseless stock base. I've taken out all the in necessary apk's that I know I don't need and left what I wasn't sure of. I've deleted wallpapers and everything I can get away with. I've inserted the old ESPT. IF anyone knows of what else I need to remove or what is safe to remove then tell me. Also any suggestions on what I should defiantly not remove? Thanks.

PRL ROM
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B15P03MYsoqPZDNkNmFkMTMtY2M0Yy00NDlkLWFiY2YtYTg5NWYwMjMzNjk2&hl=en_US
I don't think I have the old epst in this one.
PRL ROM A2
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B15P03MYsoqPYTY3ZjlhMmYtOTRmNi00YzU4LWE5M2QtODQ1MDMzY2RhMzI2&hl=en_US
A2 gives me acore error and FC on opening the dialer. This was due to deleting contacts provider apk.
Prl rom A3
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B1...OGJlNC00Njg1LWJlZDMtZjE3ZWY3NmI4ZWM4&hl=en_US
This has the old epst and so far I've cut 6 more MB from the zip.
Instructions
Nandroid your ASOP ROM, wipe everything, flash PRL ROM. Do your Business, Make a Nandroid of the PRL rom as it should boot faster. (im still up in the air on this one) Then restore to your daily driver.
Things todo
Add recovery to power button
add MSL reader
remove un needed libs
Speed up update script.
Sounds like a nice project!
What would be ideal would be ESPT on AOSP, but since that doesn't seem to be possible/happening, this is the next best thing.
You'd be surprise how much you can rip out of a Sense ROM. Typically 70MB and still keep Rosie and such is what I find.
Also don't forget that you can rip out alarms, ringtones, and notifications (Keeping just 1 of each is what I do) if you are going for such a small ROM. You could also get rid of any non enUS components like the PicoTTS elements. -- if you haven't done any of this already.
Good luck.
P.S. Provide a list of what you removed, or the current ROM you have right now so people can review.
Ok thanks, didn't think about sounds. Alarms ringtones and notifi, GONE. I stripped the boot anima to 2 frames becouse I'm at work on my phone and can't really build my own here. But it cut that zip way down.

You might be able to just delete the zip altogether. You will probably get the default android logo splash. Not sure if this applies to Sense or not, but worth a shot.
I think I'm going to flash what I have first and see how many fc's I get. Lol
Do you know of a file manager that will let me make a text file list? Best I could do for now is screenshots. And I can't seem to post them from this browser.
It boots!. Now to clean more residual files.

I did remove boot animation.
Any chance anyone knows how to build an overclocked recovery like we had with the hero? It would help on restoring nands.

Theres so many apks u can delete safely it isnt funny... Theres a few threads about which apks can be removed safely.
I"m all about this. I've been stripping something out of every rom I've downloaded for a while now. I'm not much on programming but if you need or want help, I'm all in! Just PM me

OK here is what I've got so far. There is still alot of FAT to be trimmed. Honestly, this is the first time I've had a chance to touch a computer today. I just wanted to get it out to a few of you to see what can be cut. My goal is as small a zip as possible, Flash it then nandroid it and have it restore as fast as possible. So the only thing we need to work is CDMA of course, Dialer, system update, and old system EPST. So far I havent seen any problems with what I cut but I haven't touched Libs yet.
I borrowed the update script too so if anyone wants to cut that thing down to size, im sure it will flash a little faster.
P.S. I'm not asking anyone to do my work for me, I'll do it, I just figured some may want to have a little fun cutting this thing up too.

WOW from power off this thing boots instantly. Probably due to it doesn't compleatly shut down. Can't get back to recovery without pulling the battery. This may be normal, been away from a stock rom for a while.

I seldom use data for anything more than internet radio. My commute to work is a p.I.t.a. on sprint trying to stream tune in pro at 1x speeds. If sprint drops me for that they can kiss my backside. As much as I hate Verizon there coverage is better here. But I don't get signal from anyone once I get to my house but my Prl hack doesn't work with the airave.

So may be a dumb question but wat does this due for you? Lets you use Verizon's towers instead of sprint?

When your on a sprint Prl you can roam on Verizon but only at 1x speeds. That's not fast enough to stream internet radio. With a Verizon Prl your in short tricking the tower into thinking your a Verizon customer therefore getting the full 3g speed.
If your on a sense rom you can switch back and fourth easily. Asop doesn't have that capability.
My new rom is the bare minimum need to change Prl. Then you can restore your asop backup.
sent from my evo probably at work, probably on the clock.
So when you restore back to asop it will keep the prl for vorizon towers? How would we switch back to our regular prl? Our does that even matter?

Yes it keeps.
To switch back. Do a backup, restore your backup of Prl rom or reflash it, system update, restore back to asop.
But don't do it yet. The two I've posted don't work. The first one is missing the old epst needed to get to the Prl menu and the second is missing contacts provider so the dialer is broken. I just posted them to show the progress and see if anyone else wanted to help cut it some more. If you download them both you can use root explorer, extract them both and move contacts provider apk. From Prl rom into Prl rom 2 and zip it back up and it will work. But I've cut alot more than that for Prl rom 3. For Prl rom 4 I hope to have all the in needed library's removed to make it even smaller. 5 will have the script streamlined to speed up flashing and then ill work on cosmetics.
sent from my evo probably at work, probably on the clock.
Okay thanks I'll stay on top of this thread I would like to try it. Why couldn't they make something into these asop roms that when it reverts to 1x it could switch prls?

Turn off the fastboot feature. It's one of the settings somewhere.. maybe under Applications or Storage. I forget, but its at the bottom of the list.
You can use ADB or terminal to get into recovery, but turning off fastboot will let you get back into recovery like normal with the volume key and power key.
Think of fastboot as like a suspend mode.
Fastboot did the trick. I zipped a version of this Rom with root explorer and titanium backup so save a few restores back to my daily driver. These libs are confusing as heck. I moved a lotof them to a temp folder and didn't seem to affect anything at all until I tried restoring xda premium apk. Haha it failed to install. I threw them all back in and worked like a charm. Man this phone can almost predict what I want to do its so fast with all those other apk's removed.
I really wish I knew where to find what libraries I need to keep for phone, settings and epst to stay working. Whatever broke restoring from titanium won't even matter for the final version. So long as it boots, changes settings and remains fast.

[Q] Reset to stock ROM, nothing works

I had too much trouble installing Infused so I just Odin'd back to the stock.. but nothing really works anymore. When I try installing an app from the market it says "Download was unsuccessful, please try again."
and every once in a while
"Google talk authentication failed"
I can't log into anything with 4g or wifi. What do I do? Will AT&T fix it if I just say everything is deleted because I had too much junk on it and it doesn't really work anymore?
Yes I did the market fix. no work.

wow, that's a problem. I'd try to download the unbrick package again, move everything on the SD cards to the computer, do a factory format HARD RESET by dialing *2768*3855# ( not sure if this is applicable to the infuse but it couldnt hurt to try) and if needed hit the call button, if that doesn't fix it on its own then reflash via Odin with the pit file (not generally needed, ususally if you need to use the pit the phone doesn't boot but use it just in case).

Get the stock-rooted-Froyo rom here:
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...s&txt=Odin_UXKG3_rooted_no_bootloaders_v2.zip
Unzip the zipfile into an empty folder on your desktop
open odin PDA option and select the PDA_UXKG3_rooted_no_bootloaders_v2.tar.md5 file.
remove battery from your phone
depress both volume buttons at the same time don't let em go.
replace the battery and you should see a large yellow triangle on phone
let go of the vol bottons
plug in usb cable
check to be sure that in Odin you see the [COM: ] light up with a number in it.
If all is good, click START on odin.
Try not to move the phone around, put it on the desk.
Let the phone reboot and settle down.
Then the last step is go into settings of the phone and select
privacy then select Factory Data Reset.
The phone should reboot, if not power it off and back on again and you
should be good to go!!!
Good luck!

Going against my better judgement, I'm going to flash the ROM from the guy with 200 posts..
dude what the hell is this? This isn't the infuse ROM..
YOU GINGERBREADED ME WHAT THE HELL there aren't even stock ROMS with gingerbread for the infuse in the US. Where did you get this from?
Whatever you did to get it.. it seems to work pretty well except for the rainbows that are really scary and keep making me think I killed my phone. It boots in literally less than 20 seconds.
Edit: Ugh... no camera........ wtf?
Also, how in the hell did you enable 3g? It's an HSPA+ phone. How the hell does a ROM make a phone 3g when it's HSPA+?
another edit: oh it's rogers...
How did you manage to give me a ROM for the wrong phone dude? Now I have to do all this **** over AGAIN for the 5th god damn time because 300/50 network speed is NOT OK.
Finally back to REAL AT&T stock ROM, working after a factory reset. Dani deserves a bj or something.
the rogers rom is all we got for gb right now. it half works. but i went back to the older infused rom as well. the bootloader situation is getting sorted out but it could take a long time. t appeaes that samsung locked the bootloaders, not ine the motorola sense where they prevent rom flashing but the bootloaders cant easily be changed to the ones needed for 2.3.3.
dont put gtg down for getting this out to the best of his ability. i couldnt do what he did. just realize that he put a beta label on it because he knows its not complete unless you have a rogers phone. and it may stay that way till att releases gb because even with good bootloaders there may still be issues with mhl, not to mention att has more noise cancellation features in settings and the dialer.
you will always see a rom frenzy if a new os version is released. thats just xda, it doesnt mean the new rom is better. i dont think any forum is worse than the captivate section, part of why i spent all this money on a similar phone was the fanboyism for broken roms and kernels and noobism to he point of belligerence. read user experience first, realize they are probably talking it up not down. take critiques more seriously than praise. then you wont feel like you were talked into flashing crap. beleive me it gets worse than it is in this forum.
The only thing that actually started this poopstorm was that AT&T doesn't appear to actually ever be releasing a gb update. Samsung and AT&T are the worst updaters for phones, together they rarely produce anything it seems like.
We will have official gb sometime before Dec. Stop crying about EVERYTHING.

itll be here by the end of the year. dont know why they are so slow but some people think it is to control market values. the captivate will get 2.3 at the same time.yet the i9000 had 2.3 before any other non nexus model phone. the roms are interchangable and the kernels have only a few diffs. the captivate coulda had 2.3 months ago and the infuse coulda been released with it. but it seems att doesnt want to upgrade the captivate to prevent it from devaluing the infuse and doesnt want to upgrade rhe infuse maybe to make the gs2 look better? who knows? Google may get involved. they said all capable devices should see icecream sandwich and that they would work with manufacturers to get the updates out back in janurary. so maybe next year carriers wont play this so much.
I agree, we'll see GB by December knowing att. This it's the last time I buy a phone with out the latest update. I'll probably buy the Hercules coming out on T-Mobile same spec as the infuse but dual core and gb pre install works on att 4G bands. With out the proper bootloaders Rogers Gb infuse will have all sorts of bugs. Hopefully GTG will find a way to flash the bootloaders. Google needs to step in and clean up this mess

I know every one has moved onto bigger better things in this thread, but i thought i'd let you know that this is most likley caused by root promissions not being restored correctly. I would flash using odin, and then run SuperOneClick and press unroot. This should allow for any errors to resolve in the subsystem. I was getting this error all yesterday, and this was the simplest fix for it.
Hopefully that works for you.

You may need to manually enter the APN settings for your carrier to get 3G and HSDPA. This option is found under Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks.

Well if you're on virtuous unity, use Hyperion or try Endymion for sense 3.5

Next thing to try, open your dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
This should bring up a hidden menu. If it doesn't it's sometimes (on certain ROMS) in the 'Tweaks' menu under 'Phone Information'.
In Phone information, scroll down to the bottom, and look at the 'Set preferred network type' drop down menu. It should be set to 'WCDMA preferred' for proper 3G and HSDPA operation.

Was it all working before you flashed that ROM? Might be worth seeing if they have got your APN settings right for your particular carrier. Who are you with?

Does indeed sound like the people who did your repair, fixed one issue and caused another! I'd still check the APN settings are correct for your carrier though. Rule out all software issues before sending it back again.

Question: Did your phone come back with a different radio on it? Check the version you have is right for your region. Those are outside of the roms you flash, and depending where it ended up going for repair, they may not have taken that into account. Just grasping at straws now!

Ok flashing a radio is risky, and i don't like to do it unless it's a last resort. There is one other thing id like you to try first. Ring your provider and just confirm that 3g is currently working in your area first! It could be coincidence that it went down just as your phone came back from repair. I know my providers 3g is very unreliable.
Edit: Second, try using a friends Sim card in your phone. I nearly sent my phone off for repair once when it kept bombing off the network. Turned out to be faulty Sim. Only noticed when i put the Sim in the cheap Nokia i bought to tide me over whilst phone was being repaired!

Just my small input.
I could hardly get any 3G signal in my house. But after flashing the radio, I could get 1-2 3G bars, so it certainly helped for me
Although wnp_79 said it is risky.
Just check your MD5 sums before you install iit, and you should be all set to go!

Read the instructions on installing a radio CAREFULLY. Make sure your phone has plenty of battery left. Underneath each radio download link from the index page,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178001
...it'll tell you it's md5 checksum. To check your radio download is 100% in tact, use an app from the marketplace called MD5Checker. Simply point it at the file now your SD card, and run the md5 check. If it gives you a different number other than the one quoted, the download has gone wrong and you should re-attempt it.
Note: Changing a file's name also changes the md5. If the radio isn't already named as PG88IMG.zip (it should be though) then check it before renaming it.
I'm not sure which radio is right for you. Best of luck!

[Q] [HELP!] Battery Drain (Hemorrhage to be exact)

Hello there!
i've been using reaper 3 weeks ago, i had an idle batt drain of 11mAh and working batt drain of 110-170mAh
After flashing LOTS (LOTS (LOTS)) of Roms, at the part where i reached IceColdSandwich 5.1 i started having this enormous battery drain when i switch to 3G (even if mobile data is off, even if signal is high, even if i switch to flight mode) (about 280-360mAh)
The above was recreated after flashing radio 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M and 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M, Trying the "perfect way to flash a ROM" & on a clean untouched Reaper v2.1
-i've flashed about 4 radios so far.
-i don't use GPS,Wifi,etc..
-i've tried MIUI,Reaper,Hyperion,Endymion,CM9 Roms, no avail.
-i've tried flashing the radios through bootloader and through "fastboot flash"
-i've been spazzing over the last 3 days over this, HELP! ;A;
-Oh, and this happens on 2 new batteries i just got, it didn't happen before the IceColdSandwich incident.
-i get about 5-6 hours of use.
-the battery drain atm is as follows:
Before:
**9mAh standby >> 80mAh on (2G)
**12mAh standby >> 150mAh on (3G)
After:
**15mAh standby >> 99mAh on (2G)
**100mAh standby >> 320mAh on (3G)
UGHUGHUGHUGH

Are you always in the same location, can we rule out signal strength and differing cell towers?
You could attempt to switch to using just GSM in an attempt to rule out signal
I'd say take a full nandroid backup and then clean instal to establish a base line before you add applications

+1 to that.
And remember, ICS ROMs are still not optimized, there being no proper kernel and all... so the battery drain was not unexpected. But that shouldn't have prompted you to change the radio as it was working fine, i presume, on other ROMs... Now this new radio might be the troublemaker.
Its always good policy to leave the radio alone. This ain't Samsung...and radios are dangerous things to play with anyway (not necessarily, but then if they bite you in the ass while flashing, there ain't no rabies vaccine for you phone buddy)

Hmm, i was on the move today as it Discharged in about 5 hours :/ moved in between 2 cities so i don't think it's the signal o.o
GSM battery drain is normal, the problem is only when i switch to 3G
I'm on:
Reaper V2.1
20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M (same radio from before the problem)
clean install, no apps, i haven't even added my google account yet.
Battery drain on 3G is 40mAh on standby, 250mAh on screenON.
well i had the same radio "20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M" before the problem started, i flashed a couple then back to the same one, now i'm on the same radio as before.
one thing i noted when flashing the radio is that it takes 4 seconds to unpack but about 1 second to write, is that normal?
I'll try switching SIMS/SDcards, i'm confused =A=

It's stock cyanogen with some tweaks, i changed the SIM and the SD card, i'll install it now and see, damn about 350mA when browsing
Q: btw when flashing radios, is there any other probability than SUCCESS/FAIL?
Like, can the part that the radio files are being written to has something wrong? or could the bootloader be copying files improperly? then again if that was the case the radio will go poof, =w= wierd......it's not even overclocked...i'm starting to suspect something else than the radio, but idk anymore... let's see where this goes. thanks btw~
I have -4mA / -3mA battery drain when idle.
1. Data turned off
2. Wifi turned off
3. GSM only
4. All sensors turned off
5. Screen 20-40% brightness
6. -75 Undervolt
7. Conservative IDLE governor

What app you are using to measure that?
I use battery monitor widget, but on "Current widget" it always shows double the current :/
what version as well? what's your drain when on 3G & Browsing? sorry for being demanding D:
I'm thinking of flashing an RUU, if that may solve my problem, but now one question:
What RUU do i have to flash in order to keep my current S-OFF etc. etc.. (I live in jordan btw) so an arabic RUU should have a radio that's optimized for our region no?
plan : Flash RUU for our region >> See what's up, but i'll hear from you all first
i'm on the 0.98.2000 currently.

Okay, flashed it and didn't install anything, i have multiple batteries to do some testing so here's the results so far:
Battery drain is mostly @ 3G even when the signal is 5 bars.
Battery drain increased while using 2G, but still not that much.
The battery drain is almost not there when on WiFi, streaming an HD video on Wifi only takes about 124mAh
Switched out SD/SIM, same.
i got 9 hours out of 2G and 5 hours on 3G
i must say that my powerbutton is almost broken too, it behaves erratic sometimes, actually....i lock/unlock the phone by pressing the area towards the front cam a bit, to avoid pressing the power button which sometimes makes it press 2-3 times from 1 press idk if that may cause anything.
would restoring it to stock with an RUU fix a problem? i mean since the update would replace the bootloader/radio/etc... so i guess it should rule out any software related reason no?
My phone info is as follows:
SAGA PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.98.2000 (PG8810000)
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
CID : HTC_38 (got from CIDgetter from android market)
i live in jordan so a middleeastern RUU would work i guess?
Ok damn, Got it to S-ON and flashed a middle-eastern RUU and the drain is still there, the only thing left now is to suspect that the thing which caused the power button to go derp is the same thing that's causing the drain, Is it possible?
Damn, and the stock is so pretty and smooth *A*

If you're inclined towards it, get a dust-blower out, remove all you can without loosening screws & blast the darn thing. If that doesn't work, try get a mini-screwdriver set, carefully disassemble, clean & reassemble your DS. Time consuming but from all you've written - and the responses you've gotten, the odds of a software problem are seemingly slim.
By the way, does it heat up like an oven while in use?

Ben, he's tried multiple batteries... And also all sorts of roms. That's why this points to the issue being somewhere in the phone hardware.... [Q] [HELP] Phone won't turn on and it's not the battery

Hi,
Was using my HTC Sensation the other day, all was working fine I was sending a text message when the phone suddenly went of. I tried to turn it back on but nothing happened, took the battery out and put it back in, tried again and nothing. Couldn't get into bootloader either. Thought it might be the battery so bought a new one but it doesn't work with that one either! When I plug it into my PC Windows sees it as QHSUSB_DLOAD but adb can't see it. Is this a hardware failure? Can it be fixed? So frustrating because if I send it back to HTC they'll see that it's rooted and they won't be happy >.<
If anyone can shed any light on what I should do that'd be great
Thanks in anticipation

Thanks for your reply, I've looked into this and it seems this only applies to devices bricked when trying to S-ON or when flashing hboot, mine just died when I was using it. I've contacted HTC and they are going to repair it for me - fingers crossed they don't notice it's rooted!
You we're only sending a text message and the phone bricked? That's so strange? Keep us posted and let us know how it goes with HTC repair. Did you install anything before you started the text message? Any mod, or anything? I wonder how it suddenly bricked? Or I wonder if it's a sort of hardware failure? I wish you the best and do hope they repair the device without any problems. Let us know how it goes. Best wishes

I was running JBMIUI with Sultan kernel. I was getting wifi problems with the latest build of that kernel so was in correspondence with the developer and was trying an older version of it which was a bit dodgy, maybe it killed a component I dunno! I have read into this QHUSB_DLOAD issue and from what I've heard the device is so bricked that they wont be able to tell it was rooted. Thanks, I really hope so too! Will keep you posted,

I don't see how that could've killed a component . Right now your Sensation is in download mode (all kernels, including mine, put the phone into download mode upon kernel panic). Maybe when your battery died a lot of bad luck happened because when a kernel panic happens the phone should've rebooted after 5 seconds (that's the default timeout for my kernel). Also, all previous and current versions of my kernels are stable and shouldn't cause components to randomly die. Have you looked at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=db5f3If-2Jw?

Sorry I didn't mean to cause offence by saying it was dodgy - the only thing that made me say that was the bug that meant that sometimes on r5 the CPU1 would not switch on and you had to reflash the kernel. Damnit, I probably should have had a go at the HTC Unbricking Project before I sent it off to HTC, This I do regret but I sort of panicked and thought the best option was to send it to HTC and hope they fix it. If they spot that it's been rooted they either charge you for the repair or send it back to you and charge £25 in courier costs. If they find it's rooted should I just pay them to fix it or do you think I have a good chance being able to fix it myself with the HTC Unbricking Project? The only reason I didn't embark upon the HTC Unbricking Project was that it explicitly said in the OP that it ONLY worked for devices bricked by switching s-on or flashing hboot, neither of which I was doing when my phone died. With hindsight though I probably should have still given it a try :/
You should do try try the unbrick project as I said earlier before paying HTC as u can pay them even after trying the project.

If there's a chance then you should always take it. If it didn't work then you probably could've bricked it more (maybe pull out the cable while the unbricker was doing something important) to make sure that HTC would never be able to find out that it's rooted. Also, that CPU1 bug only happened when you tried changing CPU governors from the default governor, performance (it happened because the default CPU governor was performance). To fix that you only had to reboot, not reflash the kernel . Good luck

Congrats
Lol. I had the same yesterday. I was playing Asphalt 7 and HTC crashed. (I had a lot of crashes but basically it was able to turn on after 3-5 minutes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35937286) I'm trying to boot it up but my PC recognized it also as QSUSB_DLOAD.
Have they changed motherboard in your device a while ago? Cause they have for me and since that last repair I have these problems.

This is the first time I've sent it to repair. I would try using the HTC Unbrick Project (see previous posts) and if that doesn't work I'd say you're pretty safe to send it to HTC. I would guess there's a been a hardware failure - especially if the device was having to work hard running a game. In which case they won't find out it's been rooted so you shouldn't have to pay.

This is weird that you can get the screen to come on but not get anywhere - on mine it was completely dead - the power button did nothing, pressing power on and vol down did nothing either. What happens when you try to charge it? I couldn't even get a orange charging light. Again this sounds like a faulty component, but I'm no expert on this.
As for trying to fix it yourself I don't think either of you have much chance - if it's still in warranty (mine had 2 years warranty, not sure if that is a UK thing only but considering this phone was only released May 2011 everyone's should still be in warranty) I'd say send it back to HTC. But try the HTC Unbricking project just for peace of mind so you know you can't fix it - I'd say that's your only chance
yeah..its really wierd.at first i could at least go into the bootloader (but not into recovery)...now its just turning on.
i see that the black screen gets a bit brighter (so screen seems on) but it only shows a black screen.
Looks like i need to use my warranty. Hope it isnt a problem that i rooted, but its maybe better that they dont know that :/
Cant afford repair or a new phone. Sucks to be a broke student
I tried HTC Unbricking Project. It couldn't detect my device I had 1-2 crashes per day since last repair, I guess htc did something wrong while replacing the motherboard.
First time I sent them because I had similar problem and now the same happened. Anyways I'm waiting for postman and gonna wait 3-4 weeks again to repair this phone...
Hope they will find damaged component.

Take out the battery and let the phone sit without its battery for 1 night. When you wake up, try and see if it works.
