How is ICS now? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I decided not to flash it when the first leak came out but has development gotten any further?
I saw a lot of people saying it wasn't that great and wanted to go back to GB.. and that battery life isnt too great either?

There has been alotnof development, and they have progressed nicely, fixing many of the ics leak flaws. I recommend sky pics 4.2, super lite 5.2 or team perfection stock revamped

You can always flash an ics rom and test it yourself. I did a backup with cwm and did it all on my phone. Didn't like how the phone function would just stop working when I got to below 15% and I ended up restoring to GB via cwm

what rom are you guys using?

i'm currently on Blaze V3(blue theme) i have gone through all of supercharged after V2. Whats the news on Sonya or Victory? Anyone using them i want to hear what you guys think.(I get bored of roms quickly lol)
ROMS
I'm using Lithium V1.1 right now I overall like the performance of it and the looks. IMO good ROM. I was able to use the universal deblur script once before the issue arrived with the ATRIX 2. Now IMO that was great had about 570mb of free Ram. Saved alot on battery too. I'm gonna try the supercharged one next. I like to change the look of my phone often and having these choices are very helpful thank you devs!

if you are going to try super charged i'd go with either red dawn(which you will have to put normal blaze on first) or V5 update 2. V5 is going to give a more stock look but still runs as well as blaze.
Thanks
Yeah I reading the v5 update 2 of supercharged sounds good. Now if I have a ROM loaded now can I just follow this directions posted? Thank you for the information!
what i suggest is to make a back up in CWM then if you made a back up of just stock rooted go into that. if not you will have to get RSD lite and get a rooted stock then follow the directions.
Stock root backup
I did make a stock root back up before I flashed Lithium. Well thanks again for the help. I will five this a try.
I've been using Supercharged V5.2 since it came out. I've tried others but tend to go back to Supercharged. It runs great and everything works. I also like how subtle the theme is which makes it easy for the rest of the apps to fit well into the scheme. The rest of the ROMs seem to be very similar to Supercharged just with different themes and some apps (SMS, Music, Gallery, etc) changed. I like the stock SMS app just fine and the rest I use third party.
Currently running VictoryROM 1.1, awesome rom!
It's not OC but it's solid, stable, everything works perfectly and it's themed exactly as I would do it myself, not over the top and gaudy. Lack of OC = excellent battery life so i'm good with that.
SuperCharged v5.2 by lfaber06
I have no problems with this ROM, even little bugs, and the main point is theme, stock theme is the best.
I am using just the stock 2.3.6 rom with root access and frozen bloatware.
I am using a HYBRID of Victory ROM and Lithium ROM...LOL Credit goes to both the Devs of this ROM
I am using me865 deblured and deoxed, and asian mb865

No, unfortunately it doesn't. Just a few roms fully work with CWM on boot (I think it's VictoryROM and Sonya (as developer said, he has solved this problem)).
Been on both stock roms (2.3.5 and 2.3.6), been on both stock deodexed (2.3.5 and 2.3.6), been on Supercharged v4, v5, v5.1, v5.2. Been on Lithium v1.1.
The fastest of them is Lithium. And it's really debloated. But has issues with CWM on boot (it's included as default and with it GPS doesn't work). When you remove CWM on boot you get GPS but loose overclock with no chance of restoring it.
Now I've restored Supercharged V5.2 with OC to 1200 Ghz. It's pretty quick (quicker, than stock and stock deodex) and have great battery life (better then on Lithium even when latter wasn't OC).
Running SC v5.2 for about 2 months, I think...

Atrix Sonya V3 update 2 MIUI LOCKSCREEN / SONY LAUNCHER.
Stock, rooted, bootstrapped.
The End.
I'm running Sonya v3 with Bionic CWM and it's close to a proper setup. Rom Manager works with it and my dropped calls issue cleared up for the most part. I know that most likely that is a radio issue, but all in all, I'm happy with the setup.
Still dreaming of an unlocked bootloader though.
I'm on rebal rom beta 3..I love it I flashed it on my gfs exhibit 2 and she loved it. Awesome rom.

S3 ROM Suggestions

So, after planning on leaving my S3 stock.... I found a few things annoying (bluetooth voice command issues) and will root my phone.
Just wondering what people would suggest.
I like stock, but willing to try something new. ICS is fine....JB is okay too.
Sound off... what is your favorite ROM and what method did you root with? Links would be great.... I'm playing catchup here.... been a while since I was here reading. Last phone I had was a TB and root was working great....but I upgraded recently to a S3. Love it, but the bluetooth voice dial issue (when phone security is on.)
Thanks...
one click root application + paranoid android (be sure you unlock your bootloader as well) = heaven
Get EZ Recovery and EZ unlock from the Play Store. Back up your IMEI using the Synergy method or others in the devoted thread. Always do a nandroid backup. That's essential.
For TouchWiz and reliability I'd go CleanRom. For JB madness ParanoidAndroid.
As long as you followed the first precautions I'd get a big taste of what's here!

The S3 is my first smartphone and obviously, Android device. I liked the stock ICS just fine as well, but after reading about how great flashing custom ROMS were I thought I would give it a try and do not regret it!
I used Noxious Ninja's tool for rooting my S3 without flashing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342
Then used Goose306's guide to back up my IMEI: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32397-tutorial-imei-backup-nv-with-qpst-us-variants/
Downloaded TWRP 2.2.0 for a custom recovery and made a nandroid backup.
Used titanium backup to backup my apps and other phone data.
Finally, I tried out CleanROM 2.1 with CleanKernel 1.2 with the Nova launcher: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832070
I LOVE IT! It's stable and allows me to do all the customization that I was looking for! Oh, and it's buttery smooth!
I have my CPU OC'd at 1670 Mhz and it hums!
Sounds perfect! I've been trying a lot of roms but ultimately I always go back to Clean too. Until Jelly Bean gets more stable I think it's the best one going.

Great info so far... I'm reading up on all suggestions.
The most stable rom I would vote for Clean Rom + Clean kernel. Performance+battery life+ reliability=Clean Rom.

to root or not

ok my skyrocket is at android version 2.3.6. kernal 2.6.35.11 and baseband version 1727ucla3. my question is should i keep it like this or root it and go with custom rom. i had a infuse and was running the aeon 1..4sl rom on it and it was ok. was just curious as to what roms people like on theyre skyrocket. nothing really wrong with mine now its just plain as hell ya know. just want a rom that is stable and not glitchy as hell.
This is all personal preference my friend. Its your decision:thumbup:

I'm assuming you're running stock Gingerbread? I'm not sure how the stock AT&T ICS ROM was, but a lot of people that upgraded to the Rogers ICS ROM ran into performance issues (including myself). If you like your phone's configuration now, stick with it. If you think you're ready for something different, definitely check out some of the great ROMs around here.
For a while, I was on SkyICS. Great ROM, no issues whatsoever. I'm now running Liquid JB and, again, I haven't run into any issues with it. The devs here are awesome.
And I personally love the feeling of being free from bloatware. :good:

I'm not an expert or anything so I'd advise you to read the sticky threads, even watch some tutorials on YouTube. Get confident before you flash. I don't flash very often so I get sweaty-palmed whenever I do.
I don't think it matters what ROM you have right now. Just install a custom recovery with ODIN and you can get flashing to whatever ROM you like in the Skyrocket development forum. Again, read and reread the thread.
Have fun!
i will man , reading now . but thx for all the input
You should incrementally step up from gb, to ics, to jb. Doesn't matter if you do stock ICS or custom, but I remember reading from someone much smarter than myself, that you had to be on ics b4 jumping on the jb bandwagon.
I must say though, if you decide to make the jump to custom, no matter what rom you choose you should have a good experience. We have some really good devs here and interest seems to really be ramping up on the skyrocket forums lately. In just the last month or so, we've had 3-4 major roms go official for skyrocket, and we have some great ports and variants of others.
If you like a stock experience with a bit of customization and good tweaks, check out embryo or sky ICS. Both are VERY solid roms. Feeling a bit adventurous but wanna stick to ics? Try out aokp milestone 6 or cm9 stable. Feeling downright ready for a crazy fun experience, try out any of the jb ROMs on here. I have probably tried them all, and they are pretty dang solid. I'm currently running slim bean and its great so far, but others have been fantastic as well. Orthus is a battery beast! I was consistently getting 17 hours with 5-6 hours of screen on time with that one. Aocp is fun and offers a ton of customization options. CM10 is a pretty safe bet as well. Hell, they are all good! Just Try them and you'll find one you like.
Happy flashing!

Have you tried stock ICS yet? If not, give it a try before you flash another rom. You just may like it.
Stock ICS on my S3
its always best to do some reading before you do some flashing and customizing yes there gonna be some " hiccups" but thats even with factory software. In my opinion root is always best because it give you the capability as the user to modifiy your phone to how you want it not how the company who sells u it wants it. and coming from GB to ICS was better then candy at the birthday party battery performance, better response was awesome and now since im on JB i even find myself out performing even some of the more recent Stock phones.
ultimately its ur decision but until you actually experience the difference we can only tell you on ours.
Roms that performed well for me:
GB=NexusMod
ICS= Embryo and SkyICS
JB= Slim Bean
go nuts
ok i rooted it today and am currently on the gb nexus mod, seems pretty cool . i have a couple of questions and i hope they are not ridulous sounding. first my 4g icon is replaced with h+. i am not in a 4g area anyway so its not really an issue unless it shouldnt have changed. the other thing is i dont know how to get to my external sd card files now. i used to access it from apps/files folder/external sd. but now i cant find that either. once again no biggie just had a apps restore on it .i can redownload the from play store but i would rather not.

i did the ota update to ICS then I installed CWM thru Odin and then I installed a custom rom. the skyrocket is one of the easiest phones to root, upgrade roms and go back to stock if needed. i like Orthus for JB.
i was looking into the jelly bean roms and to tell you the truth they look like there is alot more to do on a install, is there any out there that dont have like 5 different things to install. i know about wiping and all that but i am afraid i would leave something out that i need if it aint included on the rom. i know it sounds stupid but is there a jb rom thats a put on root of internal sd ,wipe a couple times and install, lol

To use ICS roms you have to upgrade to ICS first.
As for roms, it's all personal opinion what is best. If HDMI/lapdock support isn't essential for you, I would recommend CM10.

Uhh..no CM10 is actually really stable. There are a couple really minor bugs left.. but it's Jelly Bean so it's smooth as butter (project butter) and is well worth the tiny bugs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869692
yeah, cm10 is very stable.. no random reboots or anything for me.. sure it has a few bugs, but nothing to stop you from using it as your daily driver. Actually what keeps making me go back to cm10 is that its so friggin smooth and ofcourse the little customisations you can do and themes..
For the OP, I dunno much about the GB roms, but id recommend both cm10 and and magicmod with performance and customisations in mind and that they are JB based
If you want full functionality, then all the ICS roms are good, just read thru the threads for the ROMs and devs description and screenshots and try the one according to need.. the latest one is numa and the first one is SCV7 which still is one of the best roms for our phone on ICS. If you ask me, you'll know which one to use only after youve flashed enough
Also remember to read the devs description of the ROM and how to flash properly, cause you need to use different recoveries for different ROMs. So better if you read up as much as you can. Do keep a backup of your stock ICS on ur sdcard, (i have like 3 now stock, cm10, numa) but you know how it goes, since youre already on a ROM..
Mostly youre gonna love your phone more after you get on ICS and flash one of the ICS and JB roms. Happy flashing !
EDIT: i missed it, but better if you post questions in the Q&A thread..
Thanks for the reply. I'll try CM10.
When installing ICS, will all I need to do is install .zip Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.zip? for ICS leak#1 or will I have to downgrade first?

is it ok to flash stock ics rom when on cm10?

Hello, yesterday I was on my phone when it suddenly just seemed to shut off. I have cm10, and want to get rid of it and go back to stock. can i go back to the stock ics rom instead of gingerbread, and be able to do it on cm10 at the time? i can restore to the time i had my phone just rooted and stock ics. i just dont want to go through the trouble of going back to gingerbread stock rom and then updating to ics stock rom through kies. thanks in advance.
side question: is it normal for my phone to randomly shut off on cm10? from what i hear, its the screen of death. it happened to me 2 days after i flashed cm10 and then happened yesterday. (i flashed cm10 last month). if it occurs this often im going back to stock. im fine with the t mobile apps as long as no random reboots occur.
Just restore a backup it will work fine

I too have been experiencing what appears to be the SOD. The bottom "soft buttons" light up and the phone is dead. I have to perform a forced reboot to get it working. I am running CM 10-20130804 but it was happening on nightly builds before this version as well. It happens every few days for me. I keep hoping the next build will make it go away but it always comes back. I even posted the issue in the CM 10 thread but no one had any ideas other than a complete wipe and reinstall and i would rather not do that for CM10. I am waiting for the 10.2.....

bump. final question is what do i need to delete to leave no traces of being rooted before? is it safe to delete the clockworkmod folder in my phone files?

I am running CM 10-20130804 but it was happening on nightly builds before this version as well. It happens every few days for me. I keep hoping the next build will make it go away but it always comes back. I even posted the issue in the CM 10 thread but no one had any ideas other than a complete wipe and reinstall and i would rather not do that for CM10. I am waiting for the 10.2.....

The quote-unquote "Stable" build was not stable at all. It was captured before it was supposed to. Something like 2 or 3 nightly builds after that they incorporated the SOD fix into the kernel.
The latest nightly for CM10 is 100% stable as far as SOD, reboots, crashes, etc. I didn't ever have any problems with it up until I flashed beanstalk. I encourage you to give the latest nightly a chance before you go back to 4.0.4, but it's ultimately your choice
Agreed with above
