Hello there, I recently got a tf101 from a friend.(I am new to the device)
it's on v8.6.5.9 I checked for updates and it says none found, what.
I hear you can use razorclaw and root your device without a pc which is good because i believe connecting the divece to a pc is too much work.
How to update to a version supported by razorclaw, I tried usingthe app and it gives me a message saying I do not have the files needed. How to?

RazorClaw need .19 firmware (HC)
The firmware you need is not on Asus website but there's a 8.6.6.19 (originally for 3g model)
floating around that you could use

Not 3g model but is there a big difference?
and do you happen to know what thread I may find it on, I tried searching for it and so much irrelevant threads.
Nvm, got it. thnx.
Here's the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417006
the firmware is for a 3G model but will flash on a wifi only model.
The main thing is so you'll be able to use RazorClaw to root, install CWM
and can flash any rooted ROM you like up to the current ICS.
With a firmware that old you might have an SBKv1 tf
so another option is NVFlash if the above don't work.
(Serial # began with B60 or previous (some B70)) is nvflashable

I tried using the method in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
Several questions:
I'm in the US and the box said Android US ... updated to build 8.6.5.9 Honeycomb 3.2
Does this mean I should use the US (8.6.5.9) v6.3 rootkit? What do TW, TB, and WW refer to? The box lists the letters WW after the wifi info... do I have WW or US?
I see people refer to B60, B70 sometimes being unable to root... where is this identification? My (Model?/Serial?) number begins with B80 . Does this mean I have model B80?
Regarding the details of my failure... I have the NVIDEA USB drivers installed, and when running the script, I DO confirm ADB is running -- it sees and reports my device. However pressing 1, which is supposed to upload a bootloader and then backup my image fails immediately... the nvflash command fails.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I have a model B80 which is unrootable?
Any help, links or pointers would be greatly appreciated. (BTW, rooting my HTC Incredible was extremely fast and painless... was hoping for a similar experience)
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have USB debugging turned on
Well, it seems Asus started manufacturing their Transformers with some sort of "lock" beginning with production batches starting with serial N° B70. You claim that yours is B80, so its pretty likely that at this time you can't flash yours until someone comes with a solution.
For updates on this matter check androidroot.mobi site
Or you should follow @DroidRay on twitter
some help is required please, i have had my old pad replaced due to a faulty switch and that was rooted etc. I now have a new pad that did an OTA update to Build Number HTJ85B.WW_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816 but i find it a little laggy. I want to root and put a custom rom on it but i can't seem to get it into APX mode to root it or get it to downgrade to 3.1 any ideas as to what i'm doing wrong.I've also read that i may be lock into 3.2 firmware so i can't downgrade even if i want. Help please.
I don't think you can downgrade anymore. You should be able to use NVFLash with the exception of some B70 and newer tab.
what is the beginning of your serial number?
the sn is b40kAS0136** so i should be ok as only b70 pads seem to be unrootable

Yeah you should be able to do the NVFLash
Yes, use nvflash with images of a custom rom from either of the following:

Hi 2days ago I tried to root my device by looking at the info from the website
http://eeepadhacks.net/transformer-hacks/how-to-root-eeepad-transformer-honeycomb-3-2/
They give you a zip with firmware and adb to make it easier to root
I did the steps there and some things did not work
Right now I have an old firmware and it won't let me update to the regular real firmware
It keeps on saying I'm on the latest firmware
I tried nachoroot which wouldnt show I'd of 0 after 5 times trying the process from the begining
I tried unrooting by suggestions from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093403
But it didn't help I also wiped all the data and it didn't help
Firmware htk75.us_epad-8.6.5.21
Kernel 2.6.36.3-00001g9a21fc1 android#1
Android version is 3.2.1
Any help is very much appreciated I understand a new android version should be available soon I hope this will still let me upgrade android although I can't seem to update firmware
Isn't 8.6.5.21 the latest firmware?
Its possible I am just confused for some reason I thought that there is a 9. Something firmware when I just got the device I updated the firmware I thought I got it to a 9
something. wow this is emberrassing
So what I have is definitely the new firmware? Hmm then why can't I root?
my SN begins with BC and ends with 89
Is it rootable? I only saw ppl talking about other serial numbers like B80 etc...
Your tablet should be rootable but not with the method you linked above.
Try NachoRoot again or ViperMod which use NachoRoot but it does all the steps for you.
Another option is down grade to 8.6.6.19 and use RazorClaw.
thank you very much I will try with vipermod have a nice day

I am about to go on a long trip and want to get to .26 to get better I/O.
I am still on .21 and when I check for System Update (Settings-->About Tablets-->Check System Firmware Update), it sayd it is not available.
I have never been rooted or unlocked.
I want to see if others are in my boat. Please also state whether you are rooted/unlocked or not.
I would like to prefer to not root at this point.
EDIT:
I got impatient since I am about to go out of town for a while.
Did manual update from .21 to .22 US version (see my reply #10 below)
Rooted using DebugFS (but still locked):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588
Then used this method to install manually (using dlpkgfile method):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803090
works like a charm.
Now at .26

I made the .22 update manualy... I guess I'll do the same with the .26 as soon as it appears on Asus website.

I am beginning to think we need to update to .22 manually to see the .26 update.
I think once you download the zip file, unzip to find another zip file, US_epad-user-9.4.5.22.zip, put it into root of the microsd (not internal sd), unplug the usb cable and you should get a prompt that a system update file is detected, and it will ask if you want to update.
US
Seems C6 and C7 are just not on the list to get it now. Probably the newest devices around.
Maybe they will activate the next batch on Monday. I can wait

Never received a OTA notice.
Downloaded .22 update file from Asus site yesterday and did a micoSD manual installation. Unit now at .22 and working fine.
Have done Manual Request for OTA multiple time since with notice my unit is up to date. Guess I will have to wait until .26 file is placed onto the Asus site and again do a microSD manual installation to get me to .26. Did not ever have this issue with the TF101 or TF201 I have previously to this TF700.

Where did you get this information, reference site or Asus representative conversation please.
Seems as in I think as in it's my opinion not fact, sorry if that was unclear.
Something important I think to note, since I've seen a few people here post that they've unlocked... Asus disables OTAs for people with unlocked bootloaders. At least, they did on the Prime and TF300. For those people, the only option is to do it manually.
Rooted users with locked bootloaders should be fine, as (obviously) should people with locked bootloaders without root.
I got impatient since I am about to go out of town for a while.

I got tired of waiting, and used that method as well.
Mine finally came this morning. I lost root. I had used the debugfs method prior to the update.

I had .22 update the first time I turned on my Infinity.

EDIT: Corrected the above.
Howdy. I've got a Relay that I'm using on T-Mobile, which got upgraded OTA to Android v4.1.2 . But I have another, seemingly identical Relay that used to be on T-Mobile but doesn't have a SIM that is stuck on 4.0.4 . I use it for non-phone functions over Wifi. Using the phone settings it refuses to upgrade, saying "The device is up to date." I tried using a Windows machine with Samsung Kies installed (and upgraded), but Kies says "your device current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies".
I'm not really interested in rooting the phone at this point. I just want to upgrade to Android v4.1.2 so I can have the same apps on both stock phones. Any ideas?

Has the phone been previously rooted or modified? Usually that's why Kies would refuse to upgrade one.
In any case you can manually update it. The files are sprinkled around in the forum.

www.samfirmware.com is a place you can download firmwares for any Samsung Rom.
Odin is the program used to flash .tar images. You'll need Odin to flash things like stock firmwares and bootloaders like ClockworkMod (CWM)
