I was looking at the disassembly videos on youtube for both the Ray and the Sk17i and it appears that they have the same camera connector although looks can be deceiving. Anyone have any information that refutes or promotes the ability to interchange cameras. The two phones were released around the same time there is a chance their cameras were engineered in a similar way. Furthermore, the software and drivers are probably interchangeable.

I was wondering if anyone has anyone could set me straight on this it is probably a stupid question and I do make a lot of assumptions which is always a bad thing to do.

Hey guys I have just ordered this from Play.com for JUST £49.99
I was expecting to pay around £100 so am very happy with that.
Play.com
there is the link if any1 else is interested.
once I have the device I will let you guys know how the battery life of the DHD has held up for me as i'm wondering if I will even get a day out it with bluetooth on all day!
haha, the irony. requires android 2.0 or better. no sony handset officially has 2.0 or better.
anyway, they do look cool. if it does full screen clock il get one, £50 isnt much for a watch. i doubt il use it for its intended purpose much.
thanks for the heads up. keep us updated on if its any good!!!
Ooh - this is right up my street. and for £50 I'm hoping you can't really go wrong!
I'm gonna wait for reviews, but I love crap like this! I'm excited.

I will try and review it here, so if you have an specific questions feel free to ask.
i'm most worried about the thickness and the battery life of the DHD
Hmm, well after the experience i had with their X10, it will be a looong time before i would be comfortable buying another SE product...
It has just been delayed till the 29th

Just made my Christmas list! G/f was going to get me WoW: Cataclysm (Does she realise what that would do to our relationship?!), but this is more than likely a better choice
REVIEW
I was very excited about this little gadget and thought that the Sony Ericsson brand and the cost of the device assured me of its quality. However I am actually very disappointed in it.
Firstly the screen, although AMOLED, really is quite poor. The resolution is low and the colours are all washed out. The strap that comes with it is a bit crude and when worn as a watch looks very unstylish.
Next and most importantly, connection; I succesfully connected to my HTC Desire HD but it loses this connection - a lot - and it's not because I am too far away either. I can't stress how the process of reconnection is extremely frustrating and takes a lot of attempts. It defeats the entire purpose of this device. Now I know there have been issues with BT connectivity on the DHD but I see other makes and models having similar problems with this gadget. (Samsung Galaxy S, Desire, Wildfire)
As for transferring of data, that seems to be fine once connected, but don't expect all features to work with non Ericsson phones. I could not use media player function and calendar reminder for example.
The user interface is a bit fiddly too and one feature to 'remote control' your phone to show the full version of an article you have on the LiveView, is hit and miss too.
Now obviously this is a new device with a lot of potential from developers to introduce their own plug-ins, and software updates may eradicate some of these problems. But for now, I feel that it's too buggy to be useful and you are best waiting for it to be more established. It may be fine with SE phones but as it clearly states it is compatible with all Android v2+ phones, so I expect more reliability.
So this device has connection problems with dhd, right?
Does it command smoothly radio channels as well?
goodbye liveview!
Thanks apprentice, you've saved me 50 quid - I saw your review on Amazon and decided to steer clear for now.
Be nice if the issues were fixed, but I somehow doubt they will be.

Can confirm that these do not fully work with most devices, Sony announced that a vital update is needed this morning and should be coming mid January..

Wow! Sony? Actually listening to their users???
This is a major milestone in Sony's history. I can't say that I'm impressed, but I am surely surprised and very grateful!

In my experience Sony's customer support is second to none. But let me be clear, I mean Sony, not Sony Ericsson.
I bought a SONY LCD TV, and discovered a strange bug: If I selected a mono radio station, it entirely cut off sound output from SCART 2. I phoned Sony, they apologised and suggested a work around. A couple of months later I get a phone call "We've fixed that problem you reported, would you like us to send round an engineer to update your TV's firmware?".
So I won't have a word said against Sony.
Sony Ericsson and to an extent Sony Computer Entertainment, on the other hand... be my guest.
And yes, the LiveView as it stands is unusable, and I just don't understand how it could have got through any QA process in this state. It just does not work.
Hey, listen!
Sadly, my old Xperia X1 is nearing the end of it's journey. Most of the physical keys are nearly broken (I got to push them extra hard for them to work), the case is cracked in several places, there are deep scratches and what appears to be super glue on the screen, the power/data I/O hole as well as the headphone hole have gone loose, it's got a nasty case of the SODs and the battery is almost dead (8 hours max on minimal use). It seems it's time to get a new phone. Oh, the excitement!
The thing is, I've seriously fallen behind on the smartphone news and have next to no idea about the new phones in the market. And there are lots and lots of them...
So, how about I give you a list of what I use the phone for, what I'm used to, what I prefer and what I need and you kind gentlemen help this poor sod get himself a new phone!
What I use the phone for, in descending importance (the app I've been using so far in brackets):
Calling/texting
Alarm clock (G-Alarm)
Internet browsing (Opera Mobile)
GPS (Google Maps)
Facebook
MP3 player (Nitrogen)
Taking notes (OneNote Mobile)
YouTube
Remote desktop (RealVNC)
Watching movies and playing games on trips
What I'm used to (that is, not mandatory):
Windows Mobile
HTC Sense
What I prefer or would want (that is, a huge bonus if the feature is, well, featured):
Resistive over capacitive touchscreen
Hardware media keys (or hardware keys programmable to media keys)
Facebook integration (downloading profile pictures for contacts pictures etc.)
What I need:
Faster than Xperia X1
Better battery life than Xperia X1 (not difficult...)
Slider QWERTY-keyboard
3,5mm headphone jack
Inbuilt GPS
Any and all help is highly appreciated!
Reserved for phones I'm considering etc.
(Currently HTC Desire Z is the only one I've been looking at, but it seems it has problems of its own.)
Xperia x10/arc/neo/ray these are awesome i like the most ray because its reallly good looking !

My list of demands for a phone is close to what yours is
Currently I have an xperia x10 mini pro, which excels at almost all of those things.. but battery life has a bit to be desired. The one i have is the older model, the new one just came out (they dropped the x10, so it's the xperia mini pro).
I've also been eying the "xperia pro" which is not even out yet... but i think i may have found my next phone
Galaxy S is good choice
Thanks for your replies, guys, but sadly none of your suggestions has a physical keyboard. Apart from the X10 Mini Pro, but it doesn't really feel like a significant upgrade compared to the X1.
Can anyone with a HTC Desire Z tell me about it's drawbacks?
Is it possible to get this feature back via custom rom or is a hardware issue .am I screwed? I dont have hdmi on the tv i want to use it on and this would make things 100 times easier..cheaper too.
Video out from the 3.5mm jack?
It's a headphone socket, not a video out port
Well before you try and make me look like im an idiot...........please know samsungs history, galaxy s and a couple variants used the "headphone" jack as a video out port along with the audio ....havent you seen an av cable that has 3 rca plugs on one end and a 3.5mm jack on the other?:confused it wzs before they came out with mhl/hdmi via micro usb-b
Who's trying to make you look like an idiot?
I answered you perfectly normally, if you feel stupid for not checking specs before asking such a question, then that has nothing to do with my answer
Probably a good idea to do research first if you are so sensitive to replies as normal and straight forward as mine was.
This is XDA, not pre-school, people are not going to sugar-coat their answers to save your feelings
Must have struck a nerve.huh ? Drama I hate forums for this reason but what the hell. And to detection ... You are right about; this is not preschool. My concern was any body who would have intrest for this doesn't think it's possible because your post ...now more people are steered away because of your hijacking with trash talk and drama. You learned something 1. There has been previous models of phones including Samsung.. HTC something...Apple prod.(diff sub)but ,relevant ;who haved used the 3.5 mm Jack for a video output.2. They started using micro usb to hdmi because it can bring quality and performance us consumers demand .and I'm sure money... now if a developer could tell Me it's possible in just software that's a I need to know. And I'd get to work..now you didn't hurt my feelings..u pissed me off .and to not reply to my last post with something like:"I didn't know that ...that would be a cool feature ..." Because it is ...and convenient and cheap.:good:I havehave categorized you as a human being who doesn't belong on a developer forum and needs to detect whomselfs corrupt thought process and fix it. Imho.pleaze xda community help me find my answer
Sorry
And do research yourself ..because.anywone in the dev community knows the manufacturing" specs "are irrelevant. we can overclock cpus increase battery runtime . Make features available after rooting...Make what isn't on the" specs list "possible. It's like your an anti-dev ... I'm not asking if we can physically turn my 1gb of ram into 2gb with software ...And please read my threads title ... As well ..i just posted it on the s5.forum because it was My primary phone... ....HTC m8 test drive. And to the devs...is this possible with customized firmware or software...thanks

This isn't a development issue though, video out requires hardware to facillitate that output, which most modern phones do not have as they now use MHL or miracast, correct me if i'm wrong but it's been almost 6 years since the last phones that supported video out over 3.5mm jack were released (Original Droid and Galaxy S) also there is a good reason why new phones do not support that feature, video out on those phones was over composite connectors which is limited to non progressive scan signals of 480 lines interlaced (could be different in other countries i'm just going by the old NTSC resolutions) on a modern phone this would look terrible as on a phone with a 1080p screen only less than 1/4 of the horizontal lines from the screen would be rendered text would be unreadable and everything else would be super blurry. on a 4k screen about 12% of the horizontal lines would be drawn, and in interlaced mode to boot.
Thanks you for simply telling me it is a hardware issue. So I'm gonna have to buy an adaptor... Cuz I was planning on running it on my big rear projection (480i) for my kids ...the tv doesn't have hdmi so I was hoping it was just unsupported because it wasn't a "new" thing ...and developers just left it out... Because I know not many people new about it or used it.... Thanks city hunters xyz and I appreciate your response
first off sorry if i'm doing something wrong, i tried to read the stickies but i bet i missed something like i always do,
about 3 years ago i got a cheap android tv, with an emphasis on the cheap, i mean the tv itself is good, but its jam packed with so many features and run on a low spec that hinders its performance, i know the tv is running on some sort of tablet on what i believe was android 4? i want to know if i can perhaps change its rom to something much more clean and low on resources, since i doubt i need all those fancy stuff that come with it, i know near to nothing about this type of stuff so i am hoping for the best, but most likely its not possible, if you guys can tell me if what i suggested is possible ill go into further lengths to find the exact specs of my tv, thanks for the help!
Bump?
ill give this one more shot before i officially give up on my tv
So I've not been on here for a few years now, I lost the time when I was studying engineering and my interests fell by the wayside so I have no idea about anything in the new generation of coding and hardware. Basically, I've got an old Xperia Z5 and I was wondering if it's possible to take the guts from that and splice them with a big tablet display and a generic Chinese casing to effectively transform it to the same device with a larger form factor? Any ideas on how to do this or just general discussion would be appreciated as I've scoured the net and found nothing and I can't find any projects for an old phone boards other than **** like dashcams which just kinda suck, if anyone else has an idea for what i could do with it every input is appreciated, im just looking to get back into this kinda thing and since the hardwares lying around and is expendable I may as well abuse it
Look at my device list if you think im joking, ive really not been around ?
