Need Answers ASAP! Dell Streak To Galaxy S II? - General Questions and Answers

Hi!
I am going to switch to sprint from AT&T because I lost my job. I am going to get onto my mother-in- law’s plan because my wife is already on it. They have a family plan so I was just going to jump onto their plan to save money.
The only problem is that I have a Dell Streak and am so in love with it. I have the awesome stock unlocked factory ROM on it and can tether with an unlimited data plan. It’s a great phone but does seem a little out dated by being a little slow. Also I am tired of paying 85.00 a month for unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited data, and unlimited testing. I know it’s a decent deal but money is tight at the moment.
The only solution so far is to go to sprint because that is what my wife and mother-in-law are have. The only close phone that sprint has that is close to what I have is the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G. The phone would be 19.95 a month and 10.00 a month for the data for that phone. I am wondering if there is a huge ROM support group for the Galaxy S II if I wanted to say put Ice Cream Sandwich on it stock style with unlock tethering with the sprint network. I know some networks make it real hard to change your ROM’s phone.
The other choice would be just to go with the Samsung Replenish because it seems like a decent phone and has Android capabilities but I just think I would find myself depressed going from an extreme mod phone like the Dell Streak to the Samsung Replenish.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Let me know the ins and outs of moding a Galaxy S II on the Sprint network. And what phone you think would be best. You think the extra 10.00 is worth the Galaxy S II? I just think I will be going for the Galaxy S II because that is what I am used to.
Side note is that I am 8 months from my contract expiring with AT&T and have unlimited data smartphone plan. I was thinking about using an extra lame old phone that I have laying around the house and taking of my data plan by calling in and say I do not have it any more I just have a basic phone and ask them to remove my data plan. This was when I port my number over to Sprint they will only charge me the basic termination fee than the more expensive one because I had a smartphone. Do you think this would work?
Best,

Bump!

Bump!

I'm think I just saw this on the Streak area. Galaxy SII development is a million times more active than the Streaks, there are hundreds of modded Sammy, ASOP and AKOP roms, the devs are incredible. I could never go back to my streak from my S2

How do you know if you get that model? check the back of it? do you get that one at the Sprint store?
I have not bought one yet. I could call and ask or go by there and ask to see the one in the box before I get it.
Also do you think its a big deal to give up my unlimited data plan on AT&T?
Are the brand new ones in the stores today the GT-19100 model? Also are the white ones GT-19100?

I called the store and they say its the D710? Is that an entirely different model?

Thats the unlocked version and is not compatible with Sprint!

Im going for the Galaxy S III!

When you root it or flash a new ROM does it give you portable wireless hot spot?

I was wondering if anyone knew of the latest or best phone that has the greatest ROM rooting following at the moment greater than the Galaxy Nexus?
I have a Galaxy Nexus right now and its great but I am just bored with it. I would like to upgrade. The only problem is that I use [GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, Recovery, Flash + MORE [SPRINT] which is the best tool around.
I was wondering if there are tools like this or better for other newer phones that I may upgrade to or should I just stay with my Nexus for while?

[Q] Non-ATT Android Phones Suggestions

Hi, new member here. Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong forum.
I recently sold my unlocked X10a because AT&T started carrying it and wanted to charge me $25 for an inferior data plan. I enjoy using my $15 all you can eat data plan from AT&T (which I was successful in getting back), but since I reverted back to using my N79, I'm finding that I really miss Android.
I could go buy the currently overpriced Nokia N8, but I was wondering if anyone had unlocked Android suggestions for me where AT&T won't recognize the IMEI and I can happily enjoy my $15 (now $10) AT&T unlimited data plan in peace? If you had suggestions that had a built-in radio too, even better.
The X10 mini/mini pro are tempting, but I would love more suggestions. Thanks!

[Q] Looking for Advice from the XDA Gods on Best TMobile Android Phone.

Just as it says. XDA is such a great source of info and I would like the opinion of choice; cost is not a issue for me.
After 14 years of arguing about Sprint service and billing, I am throwing three EVO 4G's on Craigslist and have moved to the T Mobile $50 per month anything and everything. I know TMo reduces speed after 2g but I am not a big internet download guy. I run my company and talk about 6k minutes a month with integrated database apps. TMo made a fubu when I signed myself and my wife up for the $50 unlimited and gave us two HTC MyTouch Slide 4g's for free. I am leaning toward a swap to the Samsung Galaxy S or S2 but would like your opinions.
The HTC Slide screen is a tad smaller than I like but what are your overall thoughts.
Thanks in advance and the info from XDA has by far been the best source for everything Android.
Galaxy S2
Get the T-Mobile version of the S2 and a spare battery to slip in your pocket with it. The only thing that could beat it this year would be the Verizon Nexus Prime which will run the most current version of Android and be updated first. The Slide 4g is a great phone and you would lose the keyboard, however you can pickup SwiftKey X on the market and you will soon be hitting far less keys in your life. Hope all this helps.

Getting A New Phone

Hi Guy's And Girl's
I have been a regular forum ghost for about 4 years now, I own 3 HTC HD2's all with custom rom's ranging from WP7 to Android. Im currently looking at buying a new phone to play with and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to get next. Ideally im looking at HTC but i have been looking at the samsung galaxy.
Also I probably wont get n e thing till about april. Are there n e top spec smartphones being released in or around april that might b worth getting?
Galaxy Note or Galaxy S II (any modification, the highest-speced is Skyrocket HD, but release date is unknown).
Also you can wait for MWC (it's on 27feb-1mar). There'll be HTC quad-core phone(s) announced, e.g. HTC Edge.
Oh, and I forgot about Galaxy Nexus. It has ICS on the board which is good.
If you are willing to spend, and willing to import, the Samsung Galaxy SIII will be available sometime around there.
have you considered buying a Sensation? it is just as strong as the Galaxy II but after the release of the XL and XE versions it is dirtcheap.
Hey all, Thank you for your speedy reply's.
I was looking at the new htc sensation but the galaxy s2 has always come out on top on side by side reviews with the sensation. Plus I really like the display on the galaxy s2 nice and clear even in direct sunlight. god theres so many choices and not enough money lol. Im gonna take a look at the other phones suggested. i might even hold of 4 a bit till sumthing extra special is released.
Edit :- The spec for the new galaxy s3 and htc edge sound amazing. i do like ics on my hd2 so its gotta be even better on new devices. iv got the wants now lol
I too was considering getting the Samsung GS2, but I'm currently at an unpleasant decision point about giving up my "smartphone exclusion" and "data opt-out" features tied to my WM6.1 LG Incite. The on-screen buttons are really small and resistive screen is so insensitive that it's barely usable. I'm ready to move on, but getting stuck for a worthless 200MB data plan or a grossly overcharged 2GB plan doesn't do it for me.
I was considering getting an international i9100 version and flashing its IMEI to my current IMEI, but there's some potential contractual problems there. Does anyone have a more legitimate way to maintain my current pricing plan or if it must increase to get something of value (e.g. data and texts for the same price)?
Thank you for your patience with
<--this n00b.
Well if ur UK based most networks offer free addons to pay monthly customers, for example, T-Mobile offer smartphone users a free unlimited data plan with the exception of a fair use policy. And iv never had a slapped wrist from them and my data's never been turned off. O2 have a similar plan but I'm not too sure about vodafone or orange. Hope this helps.

I'm on AT&T in the US and they're pretty finicky when it comes to their smartphones. They claim all of these hard rules, but I had an agent the other night looking for justification so she could put the exclusion and opt-out back on the line as the previous two agents suggested that I could do after getting the GS2. They *can* do it, but it seems like they're either not supposed to or only under special circumstances. I asked if I could pick out an unlocked phone and maintain my contract that way and they said that doing so was unnecessary and that I could just get a subsidized phone and maintain my contract through premier customer care. After getting the 2nd rep's email address and then emailing her...a week later she still hasn't called me. I'm beginning to think that she might have been full of hot air. I'm concerned that I'm going to have to keep on having this crappy phone with it's poor reception because I'm a student, my parents are on a fixed income, and we can't afford to make the monthly bill go up $25/mo.

O2 data is not available free its a £6 add on and you only get 500 megabytes. Never known anyone get free bolt on off them and been with them years so not all carriers give bolt ons away. But giffgaff offer true unlimited data though I'm on contract with o2 so can't use them.

Updated, Sprint 4g phone capable of running ICS or JB, no contract.

Read last post.
Best Sprint 4g wimax phone for Internet Sharing? Pretty easy question, all I care about is a phone good enough to root, run a custom rom and enable internet sharing. Yes, I understand LTE is better but I plan on getting a Windows Phone 8 device after Sprint realizes how stupid they are being and adds them.
I was thinking of the Evo 4g but having issues finding one. What about a Epic 4g Touch?
Not one person has any help? Should this be in a different place?
If you live in a Wimax market, the Epic 4G Touch is a great phone. I bought mine in January and even though I do not live in a Wimax market, I still love this phone and in.my opinion it is well worth the $250 I paid then. I would imagine with a new contract it's probably about a hundred bucks now. Off contract you would pay anywhere between $150 and $300 depending on condition and what the seller is asking.
There is plenty of support from developers, we have official ICS and Samsung is working on a JB release.
The E4GT does not have a locked boot loader. Extremely easy to flash custom ROMs, very fast, smooth, excellent build quality.

I would also like it to run Android 4.0 or higher that I can purchase pretty cheaply through ebay or cowboom. I am not sure if I am staying with Sprint and I have 1 of 3 phones still under contract but Sprint 3g is so slow in Houston I need a 4g phone.

[Q]I need some advice from someone who knows Verizon well (related to upgrades)

Hello,
I hope this is in the right place, I've only made a few posts on here, but I read this site daily. Thanks to everyone who contributes!
I have a quick question I googled around about and couldn't really find an answer too.
I am currently using a T-mobile galaxy S 3 on ST w/ an att sim, but I also have a line on my parents plan w/ an old kin two m feature phone that will be due for an upgrade in the spring. My parents firmly believe that smartphones and data plans are the devil...So we have a talk and text family plan w/ 4 feature phones on it. I am curious if there is any way that when the upgrade is available, I could use it to buy a smartphone(capable of unlock/gsm capabilities), and then continue to use my kin two on the plan.
Does upgrading to a smartphone, from a feature phone, require adding a dataplan to purchase the phone? If so can I add the data plan to a single line for a month, then remove it and switch back to the feature phone?
Sorry if my post doesn't really make sense, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

You would add data and could take the phone off back to Kin 2. The problem is you would need to get a phone from VZW that is gsm capable. Their global offerings are lacking and in most cases are locked from using USA gsm signals. Checking newer phones' radios first would be a must.

Hey, thanks for the input, it's appreciated.
Since I just got this S3 in early Oct I will probably hold onto the upgrade till next fall when hopefully a new note or something else cool is released, (saying that it could be unlocked for GSM). If i am lucky there will be more Verizon 4g LTE phones out that can be unlocked for GSM in a year from now. I never really expected that you would be able to unlock Verizon CDMA phones for GSM, but a guy in my CompTIA A+ cert. class said that his Verizon S3 could be unlocked for gsm and it got me thinking.
It's kinda a long story, but what got me asking about this I originally wanted a note/ note 2.
In September another forum member and I found two galaxy notes for $300 on CL, and the one I picked had motherboard problems of course(Avoid CL phones/tabs please!) I was luckily able to sell the phone for parts on ebay for $150 easily, but I still lost a little money on the unlock code, zagg, and a new S-pen. After that I really just needed a dependable phone fast, and couldn't really gamble on something used, or wait on the US Note 2 release, so I settled on the S3, so here next fall after i've had the phone for about a year hopefully i'll be able to upgrade to something new. I have grown to really like my S3 though.
