Hi trying to get my head around rooting the s..I'm not new..had my desire rooted and my desire hd and flashed various roms and mods countless times..anyone simplify the steps for me..
Call it a serious dummies guide

Have you followed this guide ? I did last night as soon as i got my phone, After unlocking the bootloader its relatively simple.
You just have to flash the .zip file

I'll try it tonight. Thanks. I did see the thread just was scepital trying it
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

Its easy Unlocking bootloader isa little tricky, But if you follow the instructions and dont skip anything you will be fine...
When you see the diagrams on HTCDev. It looks way more complex than it actually is

Hi mate...got a weird issue. I hold volume down then power etc but it won't load into bootloader..flashes 5 times then eventually boots up? I tried taking fingers off during the buttons but nothing lol
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

Make sure under settings > power, That you have fastboot UNchecked.
Then power off and leave it for about 10 seconds, Then try.. I had this issue last night

Legend. Thanks mate
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

Very weird she won't do it..she flashes like it trys to come on...
It's Vodafone HTC one s..I know they add things but doubt they could stop that
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

As it's Vodafone, do you have a network unlocked device?
If not then you can't use HTCDev.com and must wait for the general s-off tool.
Alternatively you can try to network unlock your device, through Vodafone or third party.

Mines also Vodafone branded. worked for me. HTCDev doesnt give S-OFF it just unlocks bootloader to allow files to be written.
The NAND is still write protected until such tool can combat this. Fastboot is definitely unchecked right ? sometimes on my phone it comes back on without
me re-enabling it
EDIT: I have to hold the Volume down + power for about 10-15 seconds for bootloader to come up

Very odd. Noble I couldn't imagine so they rarely lock there devices well none of the ones I've had...might have to ask. Can't access bootloader. No point keeping it that's the case..
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

Im sure theres an app out there that can boot you into bootloader, Im unsure of the name but a google search might help you.
Ive been with vodafone for about 3 years and never had a simlock device from them... They have all been vodafone branded tho

All apps require root access..I'm screwed lol

Have you tried
adb reboot-bootloader
?

Nope I will try though..good idea only ever used adb once
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

haha completely forgot about the adb reboot method lol
Make sure you got USB Debugging enabled under develop option..

Just verified that it works for me, though I have an unbranded phone.
Like azzledazzle said, you need to have USB debugging enabled in Settings->Developer options.
If you haven't yet, download HTC Sync from HTC.com and start the installer. The USB drivers will be installed as prerequisites. If you don't want HTC Sync, you can cancel the installer after the prereqs are installed. Then connect your phone and Windows should install the adb drivers automatically.

I had the same issue and this is what is working for me:
Fastboot off and usb debugging on
Power off and wait to be sure it is turned off
Hold volume down and keep holding it
Press power for 3-4 seconds while still keeping volume down pressed
Wait until bootloader shows before releasing volume down.
This works for me now every time.

Thanks people finally rooted. Finally being the operative word
Another quick question. Anyone dealt with porting fonts over. I've got revolution font from hestheone desire HD which I'd like to port what changes do I need to implement

JTAG for desire S - bricked my new desire S

hi friends,
i have just f*cked up my desire S!! pls help me out!!
i have done S-OFF with XTC - Clip and also ENG HBOOT,
i tested some coustom roms on my new device till now.
now i tell you what i did:
i had this rom on my device:
[ROM] 06-13-2011 SAGA LBC MOD v0.5.1 link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048203
then i wiped all data and cache over costum recovery (vers. 3.2.0.0)
after wiping i flashed this rom:
[ROM][Jun 14] Virtuous Unity 1.24.0 Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122797
and rebooted my phone!
i also read that the recomanded radio for this rom is:
Recommended radio: 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
but i downloaded the wrong radioimage - file and i flashed instead this one:
http://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/radio/Vision_RADIO_12.52.60.25_26.08.04.30_M3.img
i flashed the radiorom with fastboot ober adb - everything was OK but i took the wrong radio ROM so after reboot the device does NOT boot!!!!
AND i cant get to BOOTLOADER or recovery!!! USB is also bricked!!! my PC can not find my device ( ADB)
so i NEEED help pls help me out devs!!!
i don't think the desire s has JTAG. i could be mistaken though.
does the phone register as a usb device at all when you connect to usb and push the power button?
PUSH
@ all devs in here!!!
pls help me out if possible,
NO bootloader, no USB (ADB), no recovery, NOT booting --> is my device DEAD?!?
is there any chance to get back to life without any further hardware (JTEG - BOX)?!
nothing happens when i conect my desire s to my pc!
well to 99,9999% except if you are hardware developer and know how to write to the chip directly - yes it is dead
So, this means if you flash the wrong radioimage, it can kill your phone?

yes, i had bricked 1 year ago my htc magic with this
depends on the device, for example my old DHD recovered it's radio after i flashed a raido of the desire z, so it looks liek some devices got a protection against it
anyway, wondering why the desire s didn't has that protection when the dhd has, but can be duo locked down bootloader so they won't need it
i have to say i am surprised that flashing the wrong radio breaks it. the bootloader should remain unaffected by this and therefore still kick in and allow to flash a correct radio rom

I have always been told flashing the wrong radio will cause a brick. This thread seems to explain it for me. But whether this goes for every device I don't know.
Thanks for the link, L0cke.
But the initial question from the OP in that thread never got a precise answer...
"All I'm asking is to know exactly what is the real, down and dirty dynamics behind the radio flashing danger so I can be absolutely sure to avoid it in the future. I have yet to see a truly understandble explanation of this."
Can someone answer this in understandable words?
I actually never flashed a radio with my old Desire, even though I flashed roms like crazy and it always worked for me. I knew that flashing a radio is a critical process, so I thought unless something didn't work at all, I don't need to touch this radio stuff...
Over 600 views but no answer so far. I fear that I really ****ed up my new device.
If any dev knows a solution pls help. Remember I have S-OFF and ENG-hboot also.

if there is absolutley no life in it then its bricked and you cant do a thing anymore besides going to the store and tell them in the morning when you woke up it didnt turn on anymore.
ive done that with a samsung galaxy s 1 and i got a new one under warranty
if there is any sign of life then tell precise what kind of life there is in the phone then there mgiht be a chance of recovering it i think
i mean when you plug it in the ac will the charging light burn?
when you turn it on will there be any message on the screen?
if nothing is seen do you see the backlight of the screen turn on but dont display a thing

Any idea about fastboot commands?
As it still turns on it should be able to do something.
Instead of booting bootloader could you try recovery with vol UP and power
What happens when you do that?
Edit: not sure if that whas the combo as it dont work on my dhd. Will try it tonight when i get home on my gf here desire s

Have you remove sdcard + sim and than Boot in bootloader?
Also you can try to install the radio Form a New formated sdcard.

[Q] arrr help

bit of a noob trying to put a nice rom on my phone..... cant get by the first bit lol,
2 problems
1 followed noob guide as regards to the revolutionary key, go the key (all case correct ect) but only got invalid key every time. So, thought maybe it did work , i better check the hboot..... Can i get into the hboot NO!!! just keeps starting the phone every time. Yes i hold volume down and press power, yes i have disabled fastboot and i have tried taking battery out..... nothing, just loads up normally every time!!
Im on a vodafone sensation , just down loaded the new 2.34 automatically, have i done somthing for the hboot screen to be nonexsistant now?
get into recovery through ADB.. with Command prompt. its on the guide as well, download adb
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html
ok down loaded adb from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
theres 2 applications fast boot and adb, with phone connected to pc both only flash up and then disapear there command box thing. Have i done something to block or skip the hboot screen?
this is turning into an absolute nightmare! my hd2 was so easy lol all this and i havnt even s-off yet, let alone recovery, wipe and rom ( ithink)
would a factory reset bring it back?
Did you back up your phone prior because if you did, your can start from there, if not and you must, factory reset should help solve your problem.

Well managed to s off god knows how lol. I found in the file I down loaded an called flash, I knew the flash would do nothing as the phone was still locked ,the cod stayed open for this and obviously it could not flash... But It the end it put my phone into the boot screen where I saw I was still on "on" so back to drawing board, now I new the key was case sensitive but I had still managed to get a capital "i" mistaken for a small "l". Only replied this when I copied and pasted to note pad where it was obvious. What a donuts I am. So now the beta key worked and I'm "off". Wahoo!. Now I think I have to root the phone and then I can put energy ROM... I hope. Thanx for your help guys. But I'm sure iv still got the hard bit to do now lol

[Q] Phone Locked :s Help?

So I bricked my phone...
I have searched around the other threads with bricked devices but none of them had that worked for me. I am rooted and unlocked so I cant flash a RUU.
I can get into bootloader, it says fastboot but when I try fastboot oem Lock or any other command it says waiting for device and doesnt seem to do anything. (I can see the bootloader screen and the red FASTBOOT sign on my phone)
I can get into my recovery (TWRP V.2.1.8.1) but my SD seems to have disappeared, it wont mount to phone and I can not see it on file manager. Which means no backups or ROMS to reinstall. It also will not mount to my PC in recovery.
Since fastboot isnt working I cant flash new boot recovery or relock bootloader. I can completely stuck
If there is a way with adb (never used it so would need more detailed instructions).
If i try boot into ROM it just shows splash then loops.

I tried the pg1fs. sig check failure. As a matter of fact doing "fastboot flash aksldjflkadsfjdlsk pg1fs.img" causes the same error, so something is in the img that causes sig check or any flash attempt except recovery is sig checked. Fastbook oem refurbish puts out a lot of interesting text, then reboots into recovery and looks for something (doesn't say what).on sd card (I tried copying IMG's to internal and external sd, no luck). Interesting thing about refurb command is it seems particularly "excited" about the fact that we have super CID - run it yourself and see, no harm is done (data, etc.). one recovery boots you can screw around with volume and power keys to see the text.

I relocked boot loader and ran the AT&T 1.85 ruu
Basically I now have the phone booting up, but when sense loads I can do very little on it, like text or call. As soon as I try do something more like browse the web the phone freezes and reboots. The back get warm and won't turn on immediately. I want to say the second core is shorting which is why as soon as it clicks in it freezes. Or at least what my limited knowledge would suggest.
Guessing I'm done and will be using dumb phone for 6 months
The phone has a 1 year warranty call customer service and get a new one.
Doesn't the fact that I used htc dev unlock void that warranty? And I never got my phone from AT&T so they won't help obviously.
I thought that was the whole reason some people didn't want to use htc dev unlock because it voids that warranty and they won't help because the phone was rooted and boot loader unlocked? Has anyone tried to get a replacement from htc after unlocking?
You might void it says. Hardware defects are covered. AT&T covers the phone for 1 year regardless of where you bought it. Call them.

They will help. They take care of phone warranty for you. You still pay for service . This warranty is part of why you pay them.

A kernel is the what interprets the commands between the hardware and the software. When the software needs the hardware to do something it sends it to the kernel. So everything is controlled by it. Flashing a new kernel could fix the problem.

If you want to keep your phone stock, follow a box of kittens advice and try a factory reset. Or download update. [Q] HTC One X rooting interrupted and won't boot

I have tried rooting my HTC One X and I installed the wrong rom onto it after rooting it. I wasn't able to boot, but I could get to the fastboot screen by holding down the down button and the power button. I ran out of time to work on it, so I unplugged it before I had figured it out. Now I cannot get it to that screen, or even to show the charging indicator. Any ideas of how I can get it booted up again? Is there any other info you need to help me figure this out? I searched for a solution but I haven't been able to find one yet. Thanks in advance.
Firstly, do you have the HTC One X (Endeavoru) or the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita)?
Which ROM did you flash?
Do you know what your bootloader details were?

I have the AT&T One X Evita. I tried putting on CM Recovery. Also I did get it rooted and unlocked. I was installing the ROM and I flashed one that kept the OS from starting. It showed the loading screen but stuck on that. I could always get back to the HBOOT though. Now it isn't possible to get there. It may be from the battery dying but the battery isn't charging according to the light. There is no light at all when I plug it in.
Ok, you answered the first question but what about the other two? If you want help you need to answer the questions that are asked, with as much specific detail as possible. Answering that you "flashed a ROM that kept the OS from starting" doesn't answer the question. I can't help properly unless you give me the information I need.
In terms of the LED not showing that it's charging, it does happen sometimes. Plug the phone into a wall outlet and leave it connected for eight hours, then try to boot into the bootloader using the power + volume down button combination. Don't do anything else yet though until you've answered the questions and we've ascertained exactly what's going on with your phone.

I told you what details I knew. I started this a month or two ago, and since then I have misplace where I put the ROM images. So I honestly don't remember. I am trying to get the phone fixed up now, cause now I have time to fix it. From what I remember, I tried flashing an image using either adb or fastboot onto the recovery. From there I haven't been able to get it into recovery or to boot normally. I could only get to the HBOOT screen. I really can't remember which one I tried to flash on there. And I can't get many more details on the hboot screen.
It's very difficult to help in that case. Try charging for an extended period of time like I suggested before and see if it'll power on.

I'll do that. I will also search through backups of my computer and see if I can find those files. I will post with any updates.

Thanks in advance.

if you want to root your devices, i recommend you to use SRSroot, This app to make your devices rooted. you just click and tarrraaaaaa... your device is rooted...
NB: you must have internet access to use this app
search "SRSroot" in google, click official web for SRSroot and download....
SRSroot only has a 50% success rate across all devices. Plus using that will only (maybe) allow root access on a stock ROM. It doesn't allow bootloader unlocking, or installing custom recovery, or installing custom ROMs. It's pretty much useless for this device because the whole unlocking process for the Evita is quite different. Maybe don't just post this in forums where you know absolutely nothing about the device.

Not relevant to this thread, as its not lack of root method that is the OPs problem. Also, if you don't have this device and don't know if the root method you suggest will work on it, you shouldn't be suggesting it.

If you weren't actively trying to do anything (flash any kind of file, etc.) when you unplugged the phone, I would have to think its just a matter of getting the phone charged again.
On the other hand, if it doesn't come back after charging overnight (use the wall charger, not charging via computer USB), and/or you get a message QHSUSB_DLOAD when connected to your computer, the phone is pretty much done and its either time to JTAG or a new phone.
