[Q] Change Accent Color WITHOUT Interop? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am not sure if this has been answered and I have gotten tired of looking. Does anyone know if it's possible to add accent colors without having interop unlock? I literally only want the ability to have a darker theme on my new Nokia and it's looking like I will just have to wait until there is a full interop unlock. Anyone want to point me to a xap that will work without interop? Does it exist?

Adding or changing accent colors is (at a minimum) a registry edit.
Interop-unlock is a registry edit (which, once made, allows installing apps that can do things like easily edit the registry).
There's no interop-unlock for the Lumias yet (and that'd be the first application that any registry-editing hack for an interop-locked Lumia would be put to).
Guess what that means for custom accent colors... :-(

I expected as much but it was late and figured I'd ask some of the devs. Here's hoping we can get a proof of concept going soon. I have faith in the likes of you, Heathcliff, and Jaxbot. We have a good community here at WP7 and I expect it's only a matter of time before I can get my dark black accent back. You'd think microsoft (Or even nokia) would just make an app to make custom themes for us? I mean it's not hard as there are at least 3 or 4 versions of what is pretty much the same app. And what harm does it do in allowing us to change colors via an app?

There is progress being made over in the Lumia 800 development forum. It seems that many Lumia 710/800's shipped with a very nice exploit that gives full access to NAND.

Hoooooly ****, cool find Voluptuary! Time to get WP7 Root Tools and/or full-unlock onto that thing pronto!
Anybody know if it also works on the Lumia 900? This could be the thing that finally gets me to actually upgrade from my gen1 phone.

Nope wont work on the 900, it doesn't even work on all 800's. You have to have a very early 800 with an unlocked Qualcomm bootloader. There are many more with the other Nokia bootloader and if you had an old one with the Qualcomm bootloader you can't have used the Nokia Care Suite to update it ever. Lucky for me I do have one with the Qualcomm boot loader.

[Q] Adding fonts to WP7 ?

Hello, (first post!)
Got an HTC HD7 a few days ago in India and loving it overall.
Noticed that some text (in either emails, webpages, facebook etc) which use "indic" or "devanagri" or "hindi" (India) font show up as square blocks suggesting missing fonts.
Is there a way to add/install fonts now or do we need to wait for updates from MS?
Also, is there a kind of official location for user feedback for such things? social.microsoft.com forums will do?
Thanks,
Vishal

Wow another incredible omission. Amazing how far backwards things have gone compared to Windows Mobile.

you're very quick to jump to conclusions... why would the end user need to install fonts? if it doesn't work in India yet it is because MS are still working on the language support. As they said already, asian countries (which include india if you know your geography) will get it mid to late 2011.

Developers can add any TrueType font (with Hindi or any other subsets) to their application (exactly as I did in UltiTran - will be available on market soon).
The simplest way to do this - it's an ExpressionBlend's FontManager.

A constant refrain. Why would a user need x, where x is a standard feature of computing that has been in common use for decades.
If you know what a font is, you know why a user may want to install fonts. So that text in documents he views and composes can appear with those fonts.
The same goes for everything else. If you know what a file is, you know why a user may want to access files. If you know what multitasking is, you know why a user may want to have two tasks running simultaneously. And so on.
Sorry to go off on a tangent but this attitude is really dumbing down computing and may prevent the windows phone OS from ever being adequate.
of course i know what a font is. giving the end user ability to reach this sort of system wide tool though, they may as well just left us with windows mobile 6.5 rather than start from scratch.
in saying this, as i said before, MS are working on it for a uniform experience. otherwise you'll end up with some phones with some things and others without, which is what happened with windows mobile.
i'm not saying that we should dumb down the smart phones, but much of the general consumers don't really want to have to go to these lengths. that's not to say there aren't any, but if we were all like that, iPhone would definitely not have taken off.
Well, its mid past 2012, and do we have indic fonts on WP? Well, I guess they are not really bothered.

+1 with you on this.
WP7 to current 8 is simplified to point of being useless. I have wm6.5 to WP8 devices & can't believe how hard it is to achieve the most basic functions even with fully unlocked custom ROMs on WP7.8.
Font should be simple so people can add required support for specific fonts for things from sms to docx. Only reason many users found it all too hard back on wm6.5 is fact most people had lower level PC knowledge back then & Microsoft didn't make things any easier & know just omit features completely !
Wm6.5.5 stays my daily device & work standard platform for my company.

Question about windows 7 id

when do you guys think microsoft will stop giving out the activation keys?
i think soon cause of this new rom, but i'm happy i got my key already. lol
I'm already suprised they don't verify imei numbers before giving it to you.

Because you're going to see a load of banned Live IDs for this...
This must only be in the US and I have a HTC Trophy 7 in the UK and working on my live account without activating

I have my imei and hd7 before so if they want it...I got it
my hotmail is also associated as dvp previously owned hd7
so I'm in the clear if microsoft has a problem
I Don't think they should have a problem anyways, it's not like WP7 is sky rocketting these days and this HD2 boost brings a lot of developers on board and a lot of attention, they are probably doind MS a favor... WP7 on the HD2 is the best thing that happend for WP7 since it launched, now with a far larger user-base, they can rack up money from Marketsales.
Besides, they can't check if you don't have an HTC HD7, they can probably ban all of those who activated their "HD7's" in the last week, but that will be very very wrong.
And lets say they do ban us, that will just make people mad and probably more anxious to hack the system even further.

Love your logic. Actually, considering imei and serial numbers are device specific, if they would have asked, that would have stopped most people right there.
How many hd2's do you think are in the world? I don't think all that many. And how many xda members actually spend money on programs??? Most want them all for free.

There is conflict when you have two sep phones with same account @live.com (ie: real wp7 and hd2-wp7) and then sign in at same time to try and use xbox live.
Edit/Update:
Wondering how live pvk and id goes to phone in hd2-wp7 situation where no real device provisioning partition exists?!?!?!??! This leads me to think that maybe:
Perhaps with Cotulla's partition layout over 4 seperate nand areas it would be an option to modify this and his wp7 spl because the activation thing happened AFTER (live activation hack around etc) he had finished leo70 release and then..........
-whilst jtag/usb or eth/debug happening- (obviously you'd though of this b4- im just theorizing- let me know if way off)- to take a HTC HD2 (LEO70) that HAS BEEN ACTIVATED ON LIVE and see where/how/when/with/which partitions, filesys, regkeys, etc, have pvk for live or the ffu and then insert a test cert like ur own xbmod/chevron. or whatever is in sdk for 7 or ce. and then utilize this to diff and comp. I dont see why not. Then .ffu then self signature.[/QUOTE]
If anyone is looking at doing this and needs hardware or I can help let me know thanks. Also:
Anyway to DUMP the newly-activated after-hack after-key after-ms-call hd2 wp7 contents completely? Any news on this unknown filesystem and sd jbod with nand? If a way to extract device provisioning partition etc. Not interested so much in live but more HSPL-for-WP7 creation to allow custom roms. Can not seem to find much on this. Anyone got ideas on own signature or other method using pre-existing leo70 nand parts as workaround maybe?
For the record - I have used a singled live key from Microsoft activation phone call more than 4 times on 2 devices and it works fine over and over: you have to consider fact that if vendor or product id was misflashed at factory onto DPP then every hardreset would not wipe this (unsure)? eitherway:
does ne1 know what the key over the phone from microsoft is actual doing? is this key taken with say imei or serial of phone and maybe your @live.com unique GUID and seeded or used with hash or some algorithm to produce a pvk for device provisioning partition? or it simply override and enable live? are there only one type of activation key over phone? seems there could be ones maybe based on your live address+guid and ones that completely allow model and oem identification to be cleanly changed?
I am just theorizing here from what I have been reading. Finally: Is it true that uk/etc MS stopped giving out keys and referring ppl to HTC etc for key2live?

I think the limit is 3 devices per key before MS drops the hammer.
microsoft germany support asked me for the IMEI of my HD7 (which is of course a HD2). the support guy entered the number i told him and i got an activation key.
i thought they maybe have a list of IMEIS from phones suitable for running WP7, but apparently not ...

[Q] custom text or IM tone (Mango update)

so with mango update, it allows you to set up custom small 1mb files mp3 files as ringtones. i am happy that part works but what i do not understand is why why WHY? they did not allow these custom tones to be available for New text or IM ,New voicemail or New email alerts.
i find this very frustrating especially since the only way round it is to go through my contacts and edit each individual one to a custom tone, i got over a hundred contacts on my phone , is there a trick or way round this???
I doubt anybody here can tell you why MS did it this way. Even if a WP7 MS employee were on here, I doubt they'd tell... However, the setting for the various sounds is just a registry value and it's possible to point it at files other than the built-in ones, or you can use a filesystem browser to replace some of the built-in ones.
The simplest tool for doing this is Schaps "Advanced Config" app, available at TouchXperience.com. It requires Interop-Unlock if you want to use it on Mango. The steps for getting Interop-Unlocked are available on the Development and Hacking sub-forum here at XDA (specifically, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963).
For future questions about changing internal features, I suggest you do some searches (on that forum, or on the web in general), and if you don't find anything, ask on XDA. This is already a solved problem; I've had Advanced Config for months.
I have an Interop-unlocked Focus, with Advanced Config, and the settings to adjust the SMS/e-mail tones do not work with Mango. Perhaps they work with some other models (and they did work with NoDo), but when I search all I find are threads that point to other threads in a bit of a mobius loop, none of which provide any actual known-working steps to accomplish your goal.
I'm hoping that when MS *does* finally implement this oft-requested functionality, they'll go the extent of allowing per-account and even per-user customizations for these tones. But I'm not really holding my breath.
Brad.
i'm guessing the only way to achieve this at present is to replace the alert-1 file with your own .wma file renamed to alert-1...
Similar to the original chevron ringtone loader... Wish someone could write an app for this as now i'm on Mango with the HTC update i cant load touchexplorer
thanks guys for the response sadly due to the mango update ,unable to make any changes .
crappy 10 tones will have to do for now. smh : (

[Q] New to WP, and have questions.

Hey Everyone!
So I have had my HTC Radar for about a week now, and since then I have Dev Unlocked, and now that I am I want to know what all I can do with this phone.
Is there a way to have the tile labels (at the bottom of the tile) removed? Is there a way to add a custom background image on the tiles? Or even change a tile image (ie TweetCaster)?
What exactly does HTC Interop Unlock?
And since I am Dev Unlocked via Microsoft being a student, how many app's am I allowed to side-load? And if I am limited, can I remove that limit?
I hope to hear your answers, and in advance, THANKS!
Student gives you 3. Interopt unlock works for 1st generation windows phones but not 2nd yet (worked on my surround, not on my new titan).
Interopt unlock also changes sideload limit to unlimited. you need this for more then 3 apps and also for some of the more powerful homebrew apps.
You can however download batterystatus from here in the software section. it does not require it. Also you can do the custom folders without even being unlocked. Tile color changes with themes. not much modifying there as the app sets it. There are a few utilities though if interopt unlocked for more customizations.

Why there's no community support for LG Optimus 7 (swit 7 - e900) ?

Why does no one release anything for LG E900 ( eg. full unlock, custom rom)? Is this phone so hard to hack or just no one cares? It was supposed tgo have 1,3 GHz processor – maybe it's jus underclocked? So many interesting issues here and catching no ones attention ;(
You just have to search. Use the old cheveron unlock (you may have to downgrade to do this) and follow these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
LG has a registry editor in 1st gen phones so you can easily interopt unlock it.
@ROCOAFZ: Dev-unlock is just a registry tweak, same as interop-unlock. Do *NOT* downgrade your phone to try and use the original ChevronWP7 Unlocker; it's a total pain to use now and you lose data when downgrading. Just use the registry editor directly!! The thread you linked tells you all the values you need to change.
@paksio: There's tons of homebrew for LG! Registry editors all support it, since it's so easy. Provxml apps also support it, except for FileOperation commands. The current filesystem browsers don't support it (no OEM DLL for filesystem access), but Heathcliff74 has said that his upcoming WP7 Root Tools v0.9 does, and that should be out soon.
As for custom ROMs, if you want to get hacking on the LG bootloader, go right ahead. DFT will probably get to it in time, but like all the rest of us they have other time commitments and personal priorities. Hackers are hobbyists, doing this stuff on our own time. If a hack hasn't been promised, don't expect it or ask where it is. If a date hasn't been promised, don't ask when something will be available or how long it will take. You can't really predict these things even if we were being paid to do this; hacking takes time and experimentation.
For the record, pretty much all hacks for the LG Quantum should work just fine on the Optimus 7.

Thanks for the clarification on the downgrade. I had a surround so i had to do it the hard way as it doesn't have a built in reg editor. I forgot what it actually did.
