Urm... I lost my drop down bar after modding SystemUI.apk. How do I get it back? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I've spent the past 5 hours or so figuring out how to change the status bar icons in the Blue Lightning Theme to the icons from VB final. Got that working perfectly.
(I also tried changing the dialer and contacts screens with no luck, but that's a problem for another time.)
In the Blue Lightning theme, the background image of the notification drop down has a pic of a tattooed girl. I grabbed the background image with the same name from RaverX3X's VB final zip and swapped them.
Now the background looks great, but the little bar used to drag the notifications up and away has disappeared. And, it seems like it's much more difficult to flick the drop down away when estimating where that footer bar "should" be. When I check the drawable-hdpi folder in SystemUI.apk, I can see the .png file for the footer, but it doesn't appear on the phone.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Try rebootin?

Rebooting doesn't help.

is that file by any chance a .9.png file? (otherwise known as a Draw-9 patch file)

I thought it might have been that, but nope, just a regular .png.

some launchers have a setting that will hide the notification bar. I wonder if that has somehow been triggered.

Try booting into recovery a fix permissions

[MORPH][THEME] Cleaner BlackBar: Enomther's, CyanogenMod 6, others. Data icons inside

All the "Desire bar" / BlackBar morphs and themes that I've looked at use the same icons for data connectivity, with text (G/E/3G/H) directly above the arrows. These icons have a "bug" - they look like they've been brought together from several places, and when you loop between them - you see the different arrows, fonts and location, which makes the experience very annoying when they flash on the screen.
I tried to use the stock icons on the Desire bar, but their background was visible on the bar, annoying to the eye.
So I took 15 min and removed that background (setting it transparent), leaving the arrows and text. The result is attached and can be used in themes/morphs/ROMs for black or dark notification bar.
I've modified the Desire notification bar morph by XebozZ to include those icons and stock battery icon, to be able to morph in 1 step. It works only for pre-themed ROMs (having pre-themed white notification bar text version) or latest Enomther, CM6 and others (allowing to change the notification bar text color). See 2nd post for morphs.
I've decided to share the morphed Black notification bar that I use for myself. Since I do it for myself, it'll naturally be made for the ROMs I use - which happen to be Enomther's.
Will work on Enomther's ROM starting 2.12.prealpha and up, CyanogenMod 6.0, or any other ROM that supports white text notifications.
Download and apply the attached morph, using stericson's Metamorph from the market.
Don't forget to change notification text colors in Spare Parts.
I didn't try other morph apps, you can do it, don't complain if it doesn't work, though.
My morph includes the following changes from the usual Desire Bar found everywhere else:
1) Modified stock data connectivity icons from the 1st post.
2) Stock battery indicator (the % are too large for DesireBar battery indicator, doesn't look good IMHO).
Thanks to Saphroxx for Desire Bar morph template, dumbestcrayon for the update.zip template of older versions, Enomther for ROM, stericson for Metamorph, and the rest of thanks to the people behind Andoid, both community and corporate.
For those that like Desire/Sense battery icons, Sapproxx made a version that includes them instead of stock battery icons:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7983261&postcount=20
Will this work with Enom's stock ROM or should I flash the Prethemed White text file he has on his thread before I flash this?
Edit: Nevermind. I re-read a part of your 2nd post and I see you included his services.jar.
Thanks, man! I really appreciate this!
Updated for 2.11.3.
Services.jar is erroring out on install.
Edit: Says E: Wrong Digest and gives the location of services.jar.

Perfect, man.
Thanks again for this. It's my favorite notification bar so far.
Have you thought about doing one of these in pure black? I know there's somebody out there who has a pure black one, but I didn't like his battery icons and everything. The icons and the way this is put together is exactly what I like, and maybe a pure black one without the glossy highlights would be cool too. Just sayin'...
Also, have you noticed that the battery percentage is slightly to the left in the battery icon? Is that something that is fixable or is it just the way Enom's ROM displays the battery percentage?
Thanks again for your work.
I can do the pure black, it's only a matter of changing a single PNG file - but personally I don't like the pure black, the area "melts" with black background and the bar isn't distinguishable.
The battery percentage is a bit tricky. The icon is shifted right - because of the "nose" of the battery, which has to protrude left, but the battery also has to remain within icon boundaries and be balanced between them. So to make the text in the middle of the battery, it has to be shifted right several pixels. The text appears exactly in the middle of the icon space - but since the battery is shifted right because of the "nose", the text seems a bit left.
i take it this doesn't work with leo's 2.0?
Using a morph - it works with ANY deodexed ROM.

That's cool. I just figured I would suggest it. Thanks for the bar you've already done, which is pretty much all I've used since I switched to Enom's ROM.

Posted in the 1st post.
Bumping for an update to 2.12 pre-alpha!
Since I've realized that Enomther's ROM has the text color set in Spare Parts now, I've updated the 2nd post to suggest using morph method for Enomther's 2.12.prealpha and up.

Works like a charm. Highly recommended.
The same instructions that MicroMod777 gives for his themes work for this one too.
"To properly set white text colors go to "Spare Parts", "Status Bar Options", "Status Bar Colors", "Set All Colors", use code "ffffffff". Then go back to "Notification Items", and set them ALL black to: "ff000000". Then Reboot."
The only other thing to get this looking exactly like the 2.11.3 zip version is to go into Status Bar Options -> Status Bar Colors -> Notifications in Pull-Down and make sure Clean Notifications Button is also set to ff000000. This is supposed to say "Clear Notifications Button" but he mistyped it.
thx for continuing my work and the reference. Note that my nickname contains an "h" though as in Saphroxx.
Only thing I noticed is that the stock battery icon is there now instead of the desire battery indicator.
Good job on fixing the differences in arrows mate

Made notification bar transparent, ran into issues on bootup...

I figured out how to make my notification bar transparent, as well as the drag-down bar and status header bar. did it by pulling framework-res.apk, opened with 7-zip, edited the files from within 7-zip (didnt extract them at all), saved the changes, closed up and pushed the framework back to the phone. upon bootup however, once i unlocked the phone i got blasted with a stampede of FCs, all standard google apps and services that run on startup. even after pushing the stock, unchanged framework back, FCs continue. anyone know whats happening?
I think you need to edit the services.Jar file as well

try a fix permissions maybe?
what rom?
im on the stock 8/1 2.2 leak. i figured out a temporary fix, i just modified the files in the smooth sense icons update zip since im using that on my phone, and did the update in recovery that way. it worked, but the only mod that worked was to the notification bar itself, not the drop-down bar or the header, so a services.jar edit is necessary to. which sucks because i dont know how to edit jar files or even navigate them to find what i need to edit lol. im gonna try to combine the smooth icons framework with the services.jar from the 50% shade backgroung update.zip and see how that runs. ill at least have a transparent status background/notification bar. i'll just have to learn java language and figure out the .jar setups on these phones myself and try editing then. i'll get back to you guys in a month
Have you checked out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744256 , which includes which lines to modify in the services.jar as well as the file to make transparent for the drop down?
Need to merge these two into one...
Heck - I'm very tempt to give it a try - i want mostly transparent top bar with 'frosted' icons - basically so if using default launcher pro, the top and bottom of the home screen match.
Plus, with that setup, it will open up a lot of the screen real estate.

yea i have the combined smooth sense icons and 50% shaded status background. i modded it to have a transparent top status bar, but the actual pull down bar itself (the one that materializes when you drag down your status bar) is services.jar related, im guessing, because i edited that in the framework and it didnt affect it. same with the status header, where it says Verizon Wireless.
after modding the status bar though, i was reminded that the individual icons had there own blackish square backgrounds that need to be eliminated, so im gonna be working on those hopefully today (gonna take FOREVER). when all is finished i'll post up screenshots and find out what everyone thinks, then possibly post up a zip of my own (with permission from jercick who did the smooth icons and whoever did the 50% shade) containing these mods.

it's not an xml edit... you just need to resize the png to fit. it uses a small png and tiles it. so just resize it to 480x800 and you're cool. i've been modding those far a long time.

[MOD][HOW TO] Transparent notification bar.

In this thread ill show you how to make that notification bar transparent.
1. take the png's ive attached to this post and place them on your SD card in the folder entitled "android themes"
take note of these file names.
2.open ninjamorph select new project
navigate through: system/framework/framework-res.apk. it will then extract all the files.
then navigate through res/drawable-hdpi.
scroll down to "status_bar_background.png" click it and change it out with the "status_bar_background.png" you placed on your SD card that has the exact same file name....then continue to replace the other 6 png's the same way.
If one of the existing png's in your framework does not match the one Ive provided (for example the existing file on your phone ends in " .9 " ) then rename it to match...not all themes are exactly the same.
3. when your done replacing all 7 png's press the blue back button in ninjamorph, select finish project, select the one that says "framework-resapk"
then just keep clicking "yes" ("yes/yes/ok/yes") then ninjamorph will tell you "ALL DONE!" and your phone will automatically reboot.
this will work fine with "launcher 2" and will most likley work with whatever default launcher that came with whatever ROM you mught be using. BUT...
...!!! when using this mod with ADW launcher, launcher pro
or any home replacement app you will need to use a live wallpaper (I use "shake em all" and then just set my own wallpaper) if you want the notification bar to stay transparent. the pulldown will allways be transparent though. (you can also use a live wallpaper called "multiple wallpapers" )

Do you have to root? Stock launchers work? Very nice work.

it does look good.
Will this work with gummyjar 2.5?
Root is required to run ninjamorph. This will work on any ROM. Be sure to put pngs in Android Theme folder (imperative). Works best with stock launchers.
update: tried my LWP again and this time it worked. will update after a few re-boots if it changes back to black, but otherwise it worked this time.
been trying to get this to work but the best I can get is my lock screen to work, but when I unlock to any other home screen or if I go to my app drawer, just a black status bar.
I am running Apex 1.3.1, and additionally have changed out my status bar icons. so not sure if that has anything to do with it, does anyone have any thought on that?
thanks for any thoughts/responses.

ps. a lot of my .png's in framwork-res.apk are 9.png's if that matters, and to get to at least where I am (running and clear status bar in lock screen only) I have replaced those with the new ones. When I finish the project in ninja and reboot, it force closes once, I pull the battery and it reboots. Like I say, after that I reboot after the fc and it loads without an error, but does not give me a full transparent status bar.
thanks again for looking and any help.

I was able to navigate to the folder irregardless of location. Metamorph forces you to use Android Theme folder.
I was able to get this to work but as stated in op you must have a lwp for it to work. I thought this would be acceptable but can't find a lwp that doesn't suck battery, and look decent. I purchased the light grid pro and am ok with it. Shakem up wouldnt display my wallpapers right.
Is there no way to get it to work with a static wallpaper? And in the browser its white. Though it could be transparent and white behind it.
Edit: the browser notification bar is white. Where to change? Is possible?

UPDATED.....
some people brought to my attention that, on other themes, some of the png's end in " .9 " so if you run in to a png on your existing framework that does not match the one ive attched to the OP just rename it to match (usually you will just need to add/remove " .9 ")
so i updated the attached files and added a read me to both zips.
Enjoy!

go into...sdcard/android themes/backup/ and youll see a backup of your framework, you can load this backup and start over if necessary.
This will only work on stock launcher and launcher2 with static wallpaper. It seems others have had success using Zeam launcher as well.

Hey,
But can you back up it with out the back up of the rom?
I meant if i want to reverse it - can i reverse only what i have done and not to restore the whole ROM?
so ive attempted to do this exactly as your instructions show something like 6 times... nothing is working for me except the transparent drop down menu. also, ive noticed in my /drawable-hdpi folder, i dont have a status_bar_close_on.png to replace your image with in the first place. im running 2.3.3 and im not running a downloaded rom or anything ( i think?) im still using stock everything as far as theming goes.

[Q] Ongoing event, Dropdown text color problems

I've installed/customized a theme exactly as I want with Black status bar, and black pulldown background with white text. I properly Deodexed and used the compatible services.jar, however, the following events still show up with black text in the dropdown list:
-In-Call timer status
-Download Progress
-Any item that is an event in progress
I've tried 4 different services.jar and all of them had the same problem, I tried editing the status bar XML files, only to have the phone refuse to load.
I notice 90% of themes leave the dropdown tabs gray, and I assume this is the reason, but does anyone have the files necessary to make all text in the dropdown white?
If you want to attach your framework-res.apk I can give this a go. I'm pretty sure this is in the /res/layout/status_bar_latest_notification.xml file or something titled similiarly.
Anyways.... I can give you some help if wanted...
I've attached my framework-res.apk, let me know what you can do. Thank You!

In looking at your framework...is this the current framework that you thought SHOULD have the white text? Or a unmodified framework. In looking at it...it looks like the text should be white... At least from what theming I have done... You have white (ffffff) set in the correct places for the dropdown notification bar in /res/layout/status_bar_latest_event_content.
What ROM/theme are you using? Also are you on the 2.3.34 update? i'm still on 2.3.15... So I don't want to throw a framework on my phone that may cause issues =?
If you can give me some more info... I was digging through it tonight.
Thanks
I am using the 2.3.340 firmware, standard rom but rooted and deodexed.
I used that exact framework with 2.3.15 with the same issue. My theme is nearly perfect except for that, so it's kind of annoying.
Hm... I'll keep looking over it. So this current framework SHOULD have white text but didn't?
Try also looking at the styles.xml and colors.xml in the /res/layout folder. I.m winning if things need to match up and something in one of those files is overwriting your white color

I'm pretty sure it just controls color for the clock, ticker, and the "titles" for the sections in the drop-down such as "latest" or "ongoing". It doesn't actually change the text color of notifications in the drop down.
Can u help me too
I had this issue with derezzed too, a lot of ongoing event text colors are controlled by each individual application (something I saw with dropbox and facebook uploads) so the options are to either customize each application as you get it, ignore the unreadable text, or simply change the .png to a different color that provides a similar feel while being able to read black text... or another artsy thing would be to use rounded corners to make each notification look like an individual bubble instead of a continuous pane
edit:
totally didnt see how old this post was... oops
