totally lost i think - Samsung Infuse 4G

I have been messing around with my phone for two days now ive played around with cwm trying to put a new kernel on my infuse 4g im trying to overclock using infusion 1.8. after messing around with it for about 3 hrs its not working i go into recovery and theres no where on there saying that install zip from sd card so i read somemore and now im seeing that i cant do it with something to do with a 3e or something that i need a modded 3e. i ve been looking around for videos and step by steps to no prevail. maybe idk what im looking for or maybe its right under my nose im just wondering if someone can point me in the direction of an explanation or a video that would suffice doin it on the infuse. i appreciate it thx in advance.

You must replace the stock recovery with a modded 3e so that you can get cwm on the phone. Will post link shortly.

Simplest way:
*must already be rooted*
Download sgs kernel flasher from play store/market (free)
Download entropys latest kernel
Run sgs kernel flasher
Flash the downloaded kernel...reboot enjoy your cwm recovery
I think you may have to Odin to a gingerbread leak though...not sure if gingerbread kernels are compatible with froyo

Thanks for the update...{suggestion}...totally up to you, it is your device.
Get your rom setup and ensure it running like it should be and your satisfied, with all your apps and setup for them is done...
Then if you must then OC, do it then...
I don't over clock, 1.2 is fast enough for me, but hey some like to OC...

[Q] Captivate 2.2 [Official] Lag problems

Just finished installing the official 2.2 release on my Captivate (problem free). Before installing I backed up everything to my SD card via titanium, then removed the lag fix, and did a hard reset / format using the dialer code, verified everything was wiped and all the internal storage was wiped clean (although MCR scripts and superuser didn't go away).
first reaction, THE LAG IS HORRIBLE. hoping it was a result of crapware, I rooted via SuperOneClick, reinstalled Titanium from the market, and removed all the ATT crapware, rebooted, and it is no better.
I've restored my apps and everything except facebook contact syncing seems to be working great, but the lag is awful! often I wait 3, sometimes 5 seconds before a screen click is even recognized.
are there any lag fixes that have been tested on, or at least suggested for the official 2.2 release?

I assume you are referring to the one used on 2.1, I don't remember the name, but it used MCR Scripts and was installed with an update.zip. once installed you ran MCR Scripts and "installed" the lag fix with 2 options, either 512mb or 1gb of space, and a third option to remove the lagfix
I ran the remove option before doing the upgrade

I thought I read that voodoo didn't work with 2.2, only 2.2.1
I'm running stock 2.2 with no lag. I formatted my external sd and that fixed my initial lag problem

If i understand you, you had lag problems after upgrading to 2.2, and then resolved them by formatting the external (removable) sd card?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I just upgraded and it seems very snappy to me. It's not my everyday phone anymore so I don't have a SIM or external SD in but from just fooling around with it for about a half hour it moves nicely! About to root now and remove the bloatware

That was solved months ago. Go to the dev section, download the 5.x voodoo + stock KB1 kernel odin file, and flash it on. Phone will take a while to boot back up, but will tell you it is converting partitions to ext4. Once it comes back, you will see the amazing speedup from getting rid of the piece of **** known as RFS.
Is there anyway I can get lagfix by itself? I have no computer so id just like to download to phone, put in root and goto recovery mode.

If its that much of a lag, then something didn't load right. I'm on stock 2.2 wirth no lag. Its just about as fast as oclf. But, if you read the [official] froyo update thread, people kind brush on what ideas to try. Most of them say, like I said, something want loaded right. Good luck.

downloaded it
renamed it
put it in /sdcard
rebooted to recovery with CWM clicked reinstall packages
Went through its process and said it failed..could not verify or something. Is this not the way to do it? I did it on 2.1 same way w/eclair approved voodoo and it worked just fine. And I apologize for getting upset its just a little tedious doing all this searching on a small phone screen.

Froyo uses 3e recovery I believe so it will not install any update.zips the only way I know of is using an alternate recovery...a kernel with 2e recovery or going the custom rom route like torch 1.5 or cog 4 in the dev section which use the new froyo
And for your no computer issue...i suggest you find mcdonalds or a neighbor and use the wifi and download one of those custom roms directly to your phone that have a lagfix included with root and no bloat. I do this all the time when I am in the field. Just some suggestions I hole they help and I understand your frustration.

Flashed to custom ROM first day!!

I just bought my Captivate today and the first thing I did was put a custom ROM on it (Serendipity 6.3)
I am proud of myself because I didn't think I could do it, but here I am running serendipity on my phone. Hacking my phone has kind of got me on a high. Now I want to run a different kernel on it, perhaps Onix?
Is it recommended to change the kernel and if so does anyone have any links or tips how to start even switching the kernel? I have no idea where to begin..
Also, anyone want to recommend me any cool apps or tweaks? Pretty much flashed my phone without even so much as learning the android operating system, I dont even know how to change the wallpaper yet!
Just stick with the current kernel for a while and see how the performance and battery life turn out. After you have established a baseline then you can flash onix and then make the comparison. I'm running onix for a day now, seems excellent so far....

Why do people not use the search function? There are multiple posts about everything you want to know, most of them are Stickies.

Can I delete all the update.zip files and serendipity files after everything is rooted and flashed to custom rom?
This is the point where everyone is going to say stop playing and start reading.
At this point you need to read more and do less.

What 'serendipity files'? The zip archive containing the firmware that you flashed with CWM? Yeah, you can delete those. I'd leave update.zip at the root of the internal zip though. You can delete it without anything bad happening, but there isn't any point and it's handy if you need to flash back to stock, then immediately flash another rom.
With the amount your messing with you're phone you would be wise to keep all files needed for a completely fresh flash. So at least keep the update.zip and serendipity.zip on the root of your sd card in case you screw something up.
Please do yourself a favor and Stop right there, set your phone done and do some reading, or your gonna end up with a paper weight. I would read at least most of the stickies in the Dev section as there are great tools and info there.

Need a little help.

The issue i had is i wanted to install the bali kernel onto the phone i downloaded the 2.1 kernel from the forums non UV version but i don't know how to flash it. I tried to find it in the forums but i don't really see any clear directions how to flash it some say clockwork don't have it don't know how to install it. Sorry for my nubness. Then i did try to flash it using odin3 which soft bricked the phone phone computer with a little line going though it. Fixed that without much issue.
Id like Try out non stock kernels and i love what u guys do with the roms but i guess im a little stumped cause i don't know how to eather a find the missing apps i needed or how to flash it properly though odin3. If im totally off the mark im sorry and please forgive me again for my noobness.

OK your probably gonna here some $h1t for not searching but I'll Hook you up. OK you need to go to the cwm final post by krylon360. That will get you cwm. Once u have cwm setup you will boot into recovery and select reinstall packages, this puts you into cwm.
Know to flash the kernel go to "install zip from sdcard" and locate the zip( Bali kernel ) and confirm installation. Let it do its thing and BAM you have Bali kernel. HOPE THIS HELPS YA.
**edit**
To navigate in recovery and cwm use the volume keys to go up and down and power to select.

To make things easier on yourself, you should really find a comp, google "Superoneclick Infuse" and it should pop up step by step install instructions. (download link included)
Still, with the root/flash options, I too would like the official release from AT&T...the wait is getting too long.
Question -I assume I'll need to reload apps if I flash a ROM, correct?

If it was help you were asking for at least give more information like

Otherwise cant you just retry the restore with MyBackupPro?

Im sorry, but i dont see how this required a whole new thread, it doesnt seem like you were asking for help. Im not trying to flame but its just my opinion.
If it was help you were asking for at least give more information like
Exactly which kernels you are flashing, what ROM did you flash.
Otherwise cant you just retry the restore with MyBackupPro?

No need to be an ***hole! This is a forum. He doesn't necessarily need to have a question to post.

Lol, I'm sorry I guess people read it in a different manner than I intended, like I said, I didn't mean to flame or anything I just stated my opinion, and I did try to help but I just didn't have a chance to come back and check if he added anymore info

UPDATE: i'm using a rooted stock rom 2.3.7 and faux Kernel 014 Open Beta Build 2.... so far everything is cool with the 3/2012 baseband im still have problems with mybackup pro had to restart it (it didn't restore all of my messages) i cranked up the cpu to 1555MHZ for when i restore my sms but its still taking a second per message it i have over 16000 message so i'm just waiting....
Thanks for the tips!!!
If you updated your baseband you can only use cm7 rc3 and the latest nightlies or stock 2.3.4 roms (kwes, buru) any thing else you will have no call audio... what do you mean stock 2.3.7?

Delete your messages. It's not your cpu, it's the memory card transfer speed that's causing it. It can't load 16000 messages instantly...
