Hey guys, I finally decided to join the forum after a bunch of lurking. Mainly because I can't seem to fix this problem.
No matter what music player I use, it always crashes mid-song or in between songs. I thought It was the app so I tried different players, no luck.
Right now I'm using pixel ROM 1.72 with Air Kernel v3.9.5, but before I had tried several other combinations.
This is the most stable combination that I've used, but the music problem is still persistent. I don't know what to do.
I would really appreciate some help, as I use my phone primarily for music.
use matr1x
I'll give it a shot.
Ok I flashed the matr1x kernel and the problem is still there. In fact, I think the phone is feeling a bit laggier now...
Any more suggestions? I feel it might be the rom because I've tried a bunch of kernels and the problem is still there...

Raise all voltages by 25 + minimum freq to 200 MHz.
Does this happens on other ROMs? Cleared music app data under Settings | Apps | all?
Maybe a corrupt file on your SDCard? You can try backing up all data of your sdcard and then format it via CWM.
Raising the voltage. Your problem is that your phone is not having enough power to run certain apps.
In NS tools which voltage should I raise, ARM voltage or INT voltage?
Also, if it comes to changing roms, which one should I try?

Both. If you have Deep Idle enabled, disable it as well. Some phones can't handle it.
Well, I'm on Codename Android, and it's pretty good. But you can try any of them, every ROM is OK.
I've had problems with Google music crashing on me. The reason for my crashes was that I had moved some mp3s and this way probably corrupted the db for mp3s the music app seems to have. Wiping the app data (with Titanium Backup) has solved these problems for me. Not sure this if this will help for you, but have you tried this? Otherwise, Spotify has been my preferred music player (mainly because I don't use mp3s that much).

I just bought this phone and I really like it, though there are some things I would like to ask you guys.
1) I don't have any data plan and don't want to have any for the moment, is disabling the packet data and data roaming options enough? I've also enabled GSM mode only.
2) I've read many people saying to delete some battery stats and charge the phone in a particular way. Do I really need to do that? I usually just wait till there's little battery (about 15%-5%) and then charge it.
My understanding is that Li-ion batteries can be charged at any point, is this correct? I also noted that the battery percentage in about phone sometimes is different than what the battery icon shows. Also, I normally off the phone when charging and at night, I leave it on (in flight mode) at night only if I have an alarm in the morning.
3) To move my music to the SD card I created a music folder because there wasn't one, is this normal? I had the phone format the card before doing it.
Also I have 2 problems with the album art: almost every time I enter the music player the album art has to reload; the other problem is that sometimes the album art are mixed up i.e. they appear on the wrong song/album, they appear correctly on my PC.
4) I'm not sure if I should put a custom ROM. It sounds easy but I don't really do much with my phone. I just call, send texts and listen to music. First I wanted cyanogenmod but it's in alpha so I was thinking of Kyrillo's ROM 9.5. It would be nice to get rid of bloatware and have better battery. The thing is that Kyrillo's Rom seems to have extra stuff while I would prefer the stock 2.2 Android ROM. I don't really know what to do. I've also read that some custom ROMs have better audio driver which I'm interested in. By the way I'm currently using the phone without a google account, maybe I will decide to connect one, don't think I really need it though.
5) I have set the vibration to be on in silent mode, but I would like to have it in "normal mode" only for texts but not for calls, is there a way (without apps)?
Thanks for any answers.
Ok man,i am hete only to answer your fourth question, wich i am completely shure.install a custom rom.do it.kyrillos is good, but kyorarom is the best.root your phone, and remove any system app that you dont use.that will free your internal memory and ram.
Use supercharger script for increasing ram also.if you need a good battery life then use non oc kernels.use some build.prop tweaks also.
Click the thanks button,i wrote all this from my phone

Well your first three questions are of beginner level. You new to Android I guess. I will suggest you put a data plan and connect to your Google account and get going in the market a bit. Apps and stuff.
And the battery stats thing, there is no need to do it. After 3 4 full charge cycles, the battery adjusts itself up.
The last question, yes go for a custom ROM. They are better than your normal stock ROMs. There is an ODIN guide in the General section please refer to it. I won t suggest CM7 as you are new. But after some time on Froyo, CM7 definately worth a try. I use it as a daily ROM. Only few more main modules left.
And for the vibration question. No there is no way without using an app I guess. I really don t remember the Froyo MMS.apk notification settings. Better just use GoSMS.
Enjoy the phone. Cheers.

Thanks to you too.
Yes, this is my first Android and touch screen phone.
Good to know that thing about the battery, I was reading on wikipedia that actually it's a bad idea to let the battery go on low levels.
Link (I can't post complete URLs because I'm new): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery#Prolonging_battery_pack_life
Regarding a custom ROM, I think I'm going to keep Samsung's Froyo for now and get used to the phone, in the meantime I'm sure the port of Cyanogenmod will improve. Then I'll see which custom ROM to use.
Does anyone know how to resolve #3?
I havent had the music problem.well,i dont go to albums much.just create playlists,it will be easier that way on your phone. And yea, disturbed forever! \m/

1. no you dont need to do anything else...
2.you can charge your battery at any time.there is no need to do that at any particular point..and also there is no need to clear the battery stats ..let itbe the way it is.
3.about album arts..did u get them by any app or they were included in the songs.. ? i ve never faced this btw.
4.you can put a custom rom if you want to make it faser and also you can try custom kernels. anyways stock froyo is also a nyc option.
5. i am afraid there is no setting for that without any app !!
I never faced #3. I think the album arts got mixed up in ur songs folder
about the album art problem, i suggest you try a different music player from the market (mixzing is a good choice). That did the trick for me.
Be warned though!!!
The quality of the output of the stock music player is great and unsurpassed by any other app i have tried so far (about 10 and counting...). Given that i mainly use the phone as an mp3 player, that's rather disturbing as the stock player is mediocre at best.
My best guess is that only the stock player takes advantage of the DNSe.

Perfect.
I hope that the battery percentage and the icon fix themselves because for example now, the percentage is 80% but from the icon it looks more like 90%. There may be a time where I think I have 20% but in reality it's 10%, not good!

I manually added them with a program called mp3tag, they work fine on my PC.
I noticed that if I leave the music player open in the background (home button) the covers stay, if I use the back button they don't because the player gets closed.
Considering that you guys don't get this problem I don't know what could be the cause of this. Maybe I should put the music in the root of the SD card rather than in a folder?
The only alternative I found is to use the "My Files" application which shows the music in a list without album art, it's good enough for now.
when you get familiar with phone get yourself a try with cm7 rom beacuse dsp setting and mp3 sound are just amazing over froyo

Bit confusing here, as I understand that ROMs and kernels for the Optimus V (VM670) are incompatible with the P500. I don't see much for the VM670 in the Android Development section.
I recently flashed BobzHome. The camera apps occasionally freeze, which I blame on the camera drivers in the kernel, and when overclocking the only governor that doesn't freeze the phone is Performance - again, points towards the kernel.
ICS for the VM670 seems to be a downgrade from Gingerbread because there is no HW acceleration. "Inferior Human Organs" is not a comforting name for a ROM.
Is there a list of ROMs and kernels for the VM670?
There's tons of roms out there. I can't post links, because I'm new to xda, but you should be able to google these and figure out where the ov roms are.
I love theKraven's cold as ice (cai) ics rom. It's build for the S, but works great on the V with the virgin patch. Basically everything works except native tethering. It's as fast and smooth as I've ever seen my phone.
BobZhome's jb and ics are both good, but Bob hasn't had a lot of time to fix bugs, but it looks like he may be getting back into it.
Tdm's Quatrimus ics is also good, but same as BobZ, hasn't been updated in a while.
Thatguylurkin ported icysnap using cai as a base that is cool, but could use an update. I'm hopeful about that.
Then there's the gb roms, For the most part they are solid. Most overclock well and are fully functional. This list is not comlpete, but these are ones I've tried and like (in no particular order):
Mrg666's mirage build
Leslie Ann's harmonia build
Earthnfire78's om-mandylion
Tgl's gingersnap port
Sellers86's cyanmobile experience port
Beyond that, a few good ports from clodfelterac and ilikechicken, and there's tons of other quality froyo and gb roms. Sorry if i missed anyone, those are just the ones that come to mind.
Recoveries:
cwm is the gold standard, imho. There's a few options, BobZhome, green, Earthnfire78's zen garden
New Cot 2.1 is great.
Twrp from theKraven is fun and cool.
People like Xionia, but i never found the right .img.

Thanks. But none of the JB or ICS ROMs support hardware acceleration, right?
And from my own research, not all of the VM670 ROMs that you say are solid, are solid.
And which of those ROMs support overclocking?

for ics omx libaries has been released
so their should be hw accelaration in ics
roms
I guess solid is a relative term. I would call most of those solid in that all of the key functions work, and they don't tend to crash. Hardware acceleration is still an issue, and idk if it will ever be fully addressed on the ov, but at least Kraven has fixed hq video/youtube in cai. That was one of the main issues that people said would never be fixed without hardware acceleration.
There is an egl patch to force gpu rendering, but idk if it really makes a noticeable difference.
As far as oveclocking, in my experience, none of the ics/jb roms run well over 600. They also can't handle underclocking well, so you need to raise your min clock speed to 480
In general the gb roms overclock well into the 700-800 range, but it depends on the specific rom and your specific phone.
So if I want to overclock, I'm going with a gingerbread ROM.
BobZHome is crashing on me, especially when I try to use the camera, so I blame the kernel because camera drivers are in the kernel.
Can you recommend a good kernel that overclocks well?
If that doesn't work, can you recommend a STABLE GB ROM that overclocks well?

Mirage was used as the base for a lot of the ports, and has a good reputation for overclocking. Harmonia 2 is also well developed.
In general, I don't think there is much of a speed difference between the overclocked gb roms and the non-overclocked cai.
I would start by trying cai and mirage, and move on from there. I think those two will definitely suit your needs, and you'll have to decide which you like better.
ps. I just realized we are conversing on two threads. Sorry, sometimes I don't look at whom I'm talking to.
You know, I just realized we are conversing on two threads, too!
Let's keep it on this thread? The title is more appropriate.
I'm going to stick with GB.
Does USB mass storage work for Mirage?
It does.
WOW! Installed Mirage and boy am I happy! Runs like a champ, overclocked up to 787MHz and so far no problems!
One issue, instead of a Google account, Add Account asks "Add an Exchange account." How do I add my Google account?
Also seems that LGCamera doesn't like the VM670.

When I go to Settings > accounts and sync, when I add an account it only asks for an Exchange account.
I had installed Mirage over my existing install, so I kept all my apps. I'll reinstall gapps and see what happens.
@upconvert, with Mirage can you tell me what are your CPU settings for Min/Max & governor?
What rom were you coming from? I'm pretty sure that there's a "first time setup" included in the gapps that will tak care of that. I think it also includes the google sync that will let you add it from that menu.

I was using BobzHome. But that's not my problem. This phone keeps crashing on me!
What are the recommended settings for Performance? Maybe I'm running out of memory?
The first thing I would recommend is a full wipe before flashing. You can back up your apps with tibu or mybackup root first. I know it's a pain, but it's hard to figure out what's causing crashes when you're working off a dirty flash.
As far as performance settings I would say to start your min clock speed at 480, and then experiment with the max clock speed. Start high and take it down a notch every time it crashes until it stops crashing, then go one notch lower to be safe. Once you have your max setting, then you can do the opposite with the min speed. Start it low and click it up after any crashes.
I also like 16 bit transparency, allow ksm and purging, and disable dithering.
Well, I did what you said and did a full wipe. From the recovery menu I wiped cache and data, cleared and formatted Davlik, formatted all the partitions.
Installed Mirage and everything ran fine! I installed gapps and that fixed the Google login. Installed DroidWall, then AntTek App Manager, everything O.K. Installed Titanium Backup, ES File Explorer, inSSider, MX Player, QuickPic, TuneIn Radio.
Played with all these for awhile and everything seems O.K. then installed Radar Now to really start pushing the limits. Everything O.K.
I then installed Google Maps and that's when it hit the fan. Crashed @600MHz while running Maps. Crashed on next boot and every boot after that. Crashed within about a minute of each boot. It then became a race to boot the phone and get to AntTak App Manager fast enough to freeze Maps. After a frustrating 20 minutes I finally got there fast enough and froze Maps. My OV froze in one last protest, I pulled the battery and started it up and everything's fine now.
Maps likes to run in the background so I guess it's doing something nasty. I'm CPU max at 729MHz and it's flawless. Gotta find a good offline GPS map program.

Hello all,
I recently bought the shield tablet but am having some problems with it. There appears to be an unusual amount of lag in things such as ui and games in the tablet. I had no possible reason for this to occur. Even while typing this message, the tablet is missing inputs on the touchscreen keyboard. I am running this rooted and stock. I am using folder mount to move all my obbs to the SD card (Samsung 64gb pro, 90Mb/80Mb). I used SD maid pro to disable the autostart on all the downloaded apps such as Gameloft games. I am using the default screen color correction and am using optimized power mode, but have not set the apps to be optimized.
From what I can see I have done everything I can to optimize the tablet, but all is in vain because things still seem to lag. Any help?
I have run into it a few times as well. Rebooting the device helps, also switching over to ART helped as well. At least as a temp fix.

I have heard the opposite actually. Many people said that dalvik was better. It seems as though it might be related to the folder mount since I have about 40gb worth of games. I went over the top.
I agree keep dalvic! Art seems to have a few issues, this will be sorted when the shield gets updated to 5.0
I too have some serious lag going on and I don't understand what is causing it. It really sucks. After a fresh reboot all is fine until an hour in. I'm not sure if it's the sd card causing it or not. I wish there were more replies here regarding it. We can't be the minority here with these problems.
I just bought this tablet and was having the same issues. I did a factory reset and switched to ART. Thing flies likes it's supposed to finally.

Use Greenify to manage background applications to better optimize performance. Sounds like this could be an issue with stock ROM. It may be that trying a custom AOSP ROM like Vanir might be of great benefit, though it was just released recently and could have issues. It's worth trying if all else fails.
Oh yeah if it's an SD card issue, it might be resolved by installing the "KitKat SD Card Full Access" XPOSED module. KitKat's changes involving the SD Card may be interfering with Foldermount, so this would fix it in that case.
I'm really hating the lag on this device. After a few swypes in Nova Launcher, the lag starts. This is a stupidly powerful device. Why is this happening!! Tried formatting, and unrooting.
Think it is a known bug, according to NVIDIA forums, supposedly fix in next update.

And
Govner to Interactive.

I switched over to ART immediately when i got the tablet, because my moto x runs faster on ART, but it lagged A LOT randomly, so i switched back to Dalvik and have noticed virtually no lag since then. Hopefully they can fix this in future updates...
The default camera creates corrupt jpgs and the sd card gets stuck in a loop. You have to delete those jpgs and all is well.
I have tried many different roms for these devices. They all seem to have some trouble will the google app, chrome, and google maps.
Using os monitor, it is not the system, or the apps itself that is pushing the cpu to max. It also is not any of the system linux processes either. Adding up all them I have never seen the cpu go past 50% unless I use a cpu torture tool, but the cpu is maxed at 100% and stays there for a good minute it does not seem to be doing anything.
what else could be doing this? I think something is wrong with the lower layer programming on these things somewhere. It makes it miserable to use.
If it is not a process, I am thinking it has to be the kernel. am I wrong? I did look through the boot messages and did notice it is using an experimental kernel. I did not see any blatant errors though.
I have a RK3188 MTCB. I've only experienced lag with Google Maps after updating from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1. Currently using Booroondook's ROM. Think it had the same problem with DSA's September ROM. There was a suggestion on the Booroondook ROM thread that this only starts to happen after updating Google Play Services. I'd be very happy if this can be sorted. I never had the problem with stock 4.4.4 ROMs.
PS: THIS DOESN'T FIX THE HISSING/STATIC ISSUE.
#IF IT WORKS FOR ME IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN IT'LL WORK FOR YOU! I'M JUST SHARING MY EXPERIENCE & I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HAPPEN TO YOUR PHONE OR YOU PERSONALLY.
So basically what's going on is as if someone is pausing & playing really fast every now and then something like a hiccup action whether in music, videos and even games.
One might think this is just a hardware problem or even an SDcard problem, but trust me it's not, well not entirely.
I've been busting my ass off trying to find a solution for the past couple of weeks and you won't believe how easy it is to actually fix the damn thing.
First of all: if you're not familiar with what I'm talking about or you simply don't face the problem, then PLEASE DON'T MIND ME & SIMPLY MOVE ON.
Alright what you need to do is simply two things:
1- UNINSTALL MUSICFX USING "System app remover" or whatever's similar.
2- YOU GONNA WANNA INCREASE "Min CPU Frequency" to 1036 MHz (more or less) but that was the sweet spot for me. So for that i just simply gone with FrancoKernel's app, but you can try out different apps too, i believe KernelAdiutor might just do the trick.
3- Reboot.
And BAM! no more inconvenience listening to music or watching movies.
now I'm on AEX rom w/ Franco'sKernel, Xposed, 200+ apps & a 128GB SDcard and everything seems to be working great as it supposed to. 'FingersCrossed xD'
I've had this for a while now on notifications, did you have that as well? I'd get a notification and it would stutter/clip as you said, did this solution fix it?
very extreme and partial "solution"
