ive never had an HTC phone but i love my Skyrocket, i,m also really interested in the S4 snapdragon HTC X ONE, i was wondering, what do you guys think about the phone and how is the htc dev community? Should i wait for the GS3 or buy a X1
P.S. one x will be available on april 20th on rogers
Stick with Samsung products. Wait for gs3. You'll be extremely disappointed if u jump the gun and get the HTC one x

HTC is definitely not junk. That's just another biased comment. The One X is a great phone. The screen is amazing, and the processor, but I agree to wait for the Samsung Galaxy s 3.

It's my opinion on the matter, compared to sammy
I've had 2 htc phones prior to getting my skyrocket. Things to note about htc:
Build quality = 7-8
Design = 8+
quality of materials = 9
Overall experience = 8
That being said... The one x looks and seems to be a great phone. Super fast, nice screen, great design, and cutting edge specs. The camera is supposed to be very nice, but htc doesn't use the known amoled display. Colors may be less vibrant but at 1280 x 720, you may not even notice. Would I ditch the skyrocket for one.... Maybe if I get to hold the phone and am impressed by it. Truth be told, you should stick with what you got and possibly get the next gen handset when it becomes available. One thing to note.... HTC usually give timely updates where they see fit. As where Samsung (in my experience) take their sweet time. All of this has been based on my own experiences and personal opinions.

HTC do make great phones, but Samsung's phones are overall better made for the android consumer imo. Samsung doesn't waste time with bs aspects such as 3d (which no one ever used anyway). Before the one series, they were all clunky, heavy, and had a hard time lasting 8 hours on a single charge. Don't get me wrong, i've owned both htc and samsung devices, but I just think Samsung has it together, atleast more than HTC right now.
One X
I would wait, the one x and the s3 are just gonna be warm up phones for what's coming for holiday season. You will have serious buyers remorse at that time.

Personally, I'm hoping against hope that the skyrocket HD is released next weekend as well since Spirit is getting its G-Nexus.
I like the specs on the One X, and would consider getting it, BUT what the f*ck is up with only 16 GB and no micro SD support?!?! Really??? Only 16GB!! Such a deal breaker. Hell I have almost 8gb of music & after a nandroid backup or two, there ain't nothing left.
Sure, SGS III is a no brainer, but I'm not waiting another 6 months for it to make its way to US carriers... which you know it will, even if it does get release world wide this summer.
Come on AT&T, give me a f*cking release date on the skyrocket HD already!!!

very true. i just flashed back to gb because im having flash withdrawl symptoms. haha sad but true & look @ i9100, nexus community oh boy so much to flash. no offence to any devs here as i got involved too but my question is where is kernels? where is aokp? where is aosp cm9? where is miui. its no where seen or not even heard of. yeah we hear whitehawx and these guys saying they got it running well where is it? the way i see it this phone only has a community of "north america" and "europe" no one else has this phone so are you gonna see anything else? i don't think so. here all the roms right now as we speak are based on leaks, yah one says 1 is better but for me its same thing. next time i'll wait & hear to a phone being released "world-wide" then i'll jump that ship..till then im just waiting for an offer and im selling this phone.. i know yah good things come to who wait, well its been 1 yr already and phone has been released year prior to. s3 might be international and i'll jump on that..

So I'm done with the sensation, all the "remove all sense, add fast in topic title" devs (no offence, but I personally think there's too many of this already).
I'm now thinking of getting a Gal Nex, only because of the AOSP development over there. but I am a little worried it might be slower than my sensation (1.5ghz vs 1.2, anyone? and the gpu?)
So in your honest opinion, do you think an upgrade to the gal nex is okay?

As above poster said, it's a "side-grade" rather than an upgrade. It's most likely that cpu doesn't make that much noticable difference: 1.2 should be enough to run contemporary apps (they're usually designed to be compatible with slower phones, hence why iPhone can get away with underclocking for instance), especially since you don't game. Ditto for the GPU. This should also lead to better battery life - along with having a more powerful battery, of course.
That said, there are a lot of quirks with the Nexus itself (and, to some extent, Samsung's handling of it). Camera, MTP USB protocol only, nonremovable SD card, question of whether car dock will ever be made. Make sure you research and are happy with all of them before buying.
It's been a few months, so the Nexus should be getting pretty cheap. I would get it for at most $600 U.S. Price promotions often come out here, though I'm not sure about in your geographical location.
I assume you know about the alternatives showcased in MWC that are coming out in a few months. Huawei Ascend D (the "fastest phone") is rumored to come with stock ICS for example. Galaxy Nexus is still probably the best bet right now for longer term dev support, however.

There are some amaizing development on diffrent kernels on the GN. So with a costum kernel you will brobably not feel like it´s going slower atleast...
Well, the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone, so is all of the Galaxy lines and it's variants.
But it is rumored that the S3 will come out within 6 months. If you have patience wait for that
If not go with the Galaxy Nexus, or Galaxy S2.
Personally an Infuse 4g User (Variant of the S2).
I really wouldnt get the Nexus and go for the S2 or wait a month or two for the Htc one X and im sure there will be AOSP roms for it soon
The one X looks like a beast even with the htc sense on it
The Galaxy Nexus is an awesome buy, the trouble with always waiting is that you end up buying nothing
As said its a side grade, but you get the benefit of quick novelty updates. Personally I would wait for A15 cored phones instead.
$1 gets you a reply
And this is why I bought my Nexus before MWC ...

YES YES YES, nexus ALWAYS gets support from google no matter what, for about 2 years. The one thing I have witnessed with android is horrible support and update timelines for every phone other than the nexus line. Plus if you're not happy, the nexus always has a rather big dev community
there are some really good changes in the new one so I think its better to go for a new one if you really like

I don't think a vast majority of people would consider .15 more inches of screen, and a higher resolution on an already excellent screen worth using an upgrade/600 bucks.
Not saying it isn't an improvement, it's just not "fap fap fap - must have" material.
The HD screen will be a PenTile display. (insert vomit smiley)
I left the Atrix because of that crap and I have no desire to go back to it.

true.. But im sure tired of getting a nice device only to have it replaced 6 months later with a shiny newer version.
not to mention having to wait a year later after said device is released just for an update, lol
but i agree the skyrocket still is an awesome phone. but alas that hd screen sure is nice,, after using my int galaxy note. though its hard to come back to such a small screen lol 4.5 inches is like looking and an ip4 now. after using a note.
Hahaha, you guys are outta control with having to get new devices all the time. I keep my phones for 2 or 3 years before I replace them. I'm very happy with the skyrocket and as long as it doesn't explode or fall into a puddle I'll be keeping it for years just like my other phones.

I thought I would get some feedback from fellow One S users: I just saw how frickin' awesome Jelly Bean is going to be, and have come across an opportunity to trade my One S for a GNex (which has already begun receiving the JB update). Given how long it takes for HTC to roll out ANYTHING, should I make that jump? I know there are a few trade offs, namely an inferior camera on the GNex. I know the One S has better specs, but who knows how long we will be waiting for JB. I guess my main gripe with the One S is how we're stuck with Sense. I tolerate it, but I vastly prefer vanilla Android and AOSP. I know some AOSP builds have made progress but still have problems with no real solutions in sight yet, like camera and connectivity issues.

Things are working to a degree but CM9 is still far from my daily driver standards. I check that thread all the time and keep seeing issues pop up, particularly with picture/video recorder quality, which is a deal breaker for me.
And I would be getting money on top for the GNex, if this guy ever gets back to me. I wouldn't even really need much back to even out what I spent since I talked the T-Mo reps down to $100 for my One S when I got it.

HTC is not TOO bad when it comes to releasing software updates. It certainly is not the worst, *cough* Samsung. Once Google officially releases the source of Jellybean, HTC will begin updating Sense to 4.1. It's safe to say that we would not receive and update until at least 1-2 months after the release; possibly more, depending on HTC's developers. One thing I am skeptical about is waiting to T-Mobile to release their version of HTC Sense with T-Mobile apps and bloatware. If anyone is on stock T-Mobile waiting for an update, this is one thing to consider. I am sure this will not take long as all T-Mobile has to do is add its apps and bloat ****, then release it.
Regarding the difference between the GN and HOS handsets, our device is much better; at least, in my opinion. We have a MUCH better build quality (metal, sleek). We also have better specs, albeit, no sdcard slot. Just because a device gets and update first does not mean it is the best. The GN has it first because it is still the flagship stock Android device as it is a Nexus device. If our HOS was on stock ICS with no Sense, we would get the update at the same time as well, most likely. In sum, we just have to wait a bit longer
EDIT: benchmark scores do not mean ****.

Me: "It's going to start rolling out to the newer Android phones over the next few months, but the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has it now."
Boss: "Great! Order me one and set it up, would you? And grab one for yourself while you're at it."

Hey guys, I'm planning on getting a new phone contract and I'm really debating on 2 phones.. the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S3.
I'm right now using a Nexus S which I'm really happy with but Rogers is offering a really nice plan extremely better than my actual one and cheaper.
I'm just looking for some opinions from you guys to help me chose.
Thanks.
I never understood this kind of a question. It is just too subjective with so many factors. If having the latest and greatest software is important go with a Nexus. If not....you really need to compare and decide what is right for you. They are both great phones. I suggest handling them both and get a good feel for each.

Can all questions about buying phones or a comparison between phones be posted in here please?
This is just an idea so it makes these forums easier to deal with.

S3 is supposedly getting updated to JB late in the fourth quarter 2012.
If you can wait, well then I say go for the S3, if not then go with the Nexus. Personally, my opinion is to grab the S3. You are on XDA after all! Grab yourself a custom Jelly Bean ROM! (The devs are everywhere on the S3 thread, expect one to come out soon if it hasn't come already.)
Definitely the s3 if you are a rooter or not because even tho the s3 doesn't have jelly bean officially its definitely worth the wait. The s3 has a faster processor, better screen, more ram, bigger battery, and overall newer hardware! Its worth the wait for jelly bean!

SGSIII if you like modding, installing new ROM's etc,
Nexus if not as you will get the latest firmware more or less first.
hi maxx1601! i've a galaxy nexus and personally i think is the best android phone for some reason: first it's the official google phone, so the android developing is based on it and with jelly bean google resolved the few ICS's bugs; second it has a dual core cpu (is enough for all android operation and using, we don't need more), that make battery good against the gsIII that has in my opinion too many power enhancements like quad core cpu ecc. that cause battery drain under android, has got a user interface that is second to google pure UI, that personally love; gsIII has olso a too big display ( nexus display is enough bigger, good for browsing, gaming, texting, using apps like maps and google earth that need a large display). my advice is to buy the galaxy nexus, and don't forgot, the price is olso a good thing to keep in mind it costs only 399 $ now ( mabe less i don't know) and is full supported for updates by google and developers that have a solid base made by google. i hope it helps, I wish you have a good choice! :fingers-crossed:

Agreed. HOX worth consideration... Amazing screen, hardware and build quality. Upgraded from GNex and very happy I did. Screens side by side makes AMOLED cringe worthy.
Future Shop also has Rogers HOX on sale for 29.99 right now. Honestly don't feel the GS3 is worth the extra $130.

Nexus, in my opinion
interest to developed phone....choose nexus
interest in spec and performance....choose sgs3

And samsung was supposed to have ICS for most of their phones in the first quarter and didnt release them until the 3rd quarter. Thats probably the nicest thing about owning the nexus you know that you will get the updates and you will get them on time. The SIII will get support for updates until the next flagship samsung phone comes out and then they will put it on the back burner just like they did with the SII, skyrocket etc... That was the most frustrating part when i had my skyrocket, i had a phone that was less than a year old, had decent hardware and i knew it would probably never get updated past ICS, because once the SIII came out samsung and AT&T had moved on.

I loved my one x but to tell you the truth, the lack of a removable battery really killed it for me. Besides that the phone was awesome.
nexus FTW
Hey ive got an Galaxy Nexus now for over two month and I must say its just awesome, especially in combination with these forums (There are tons of good roms for the GNEX=
The best part about the phone is the stock android experience but thats personal preference.
I also tested the S3 and its a great phone but i dont like the Samsung custom Software that much.
I've had the Galaxy s3 for about a month now and love it.the camera options are awesome, decent selection of ROMs available and some cool compatibility programs if you have dlna devices at home.
Samsung Galaxy SIII (SPH-L710)
ok so im due for my upgrade and the love hate relationship i have with my tbolt is coming to an end... the question is now what should i replace it with im getting mixed responses so im looking to other thunderbolt users for suggestions so far ive been told
iphone5 (hell f#[email protected] NO!)
DNA ??
galaxy N2 (big but i like)
galaxy S3 (popular choice but that doesn't mean the best)
to be released????
any others i missed or opinions please feel free to share after the upgrade i will pass my tbolt to my fiance so fear not another one hasn't bit the dust yet...
Htc has a new device scheduled to release in February. May want to wait until then and not be disappointed by buying something new and then that comes out right after you buy something. Out of what you listed though j would choose the dna. Viper has one so you know there is some awesome dev work there.

It is likely that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 will be released in March.
Personally, I want to punish Verizon for docking us on the Tbolt. So, I will be bailing for Tmobile with an unsubsidized phone, likely the sgs4.
Many new nextgen phones coming out in Q1 2012.

T mobile blows where I live plus who wants throttled bandwidth after 250mb. I would rather buy full retail than a subsidized phone any day and get to keep my unlimited.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Yeah people only sees unlimited on tmobile and sprint but fail to look at how they almost throttle you right out the gate. Like in Indiana Jones and the last crusade. Choose wisely and I guess I chose poorly lol. Its the name of the game. No one knows how a phone will be supported and we can only hope we chose right.. I chose right with the original droid and dinc. Really people needs to look at what 4g phones was available the bolt in the end was the clear choice. The revolution was dead before it even started and with the charge the devs didn't last long and bailed on that phone not to long after it was released. No one wants to look at the big picture and just wantrs to focus on HTC like they had the only 4g phone at the time.

No SD card, non-removable battery, that makes it totally unacceptable to me.

I really like the S3 but I've had problems with the sound system on all the Samsung phones I've owned, can't hear 'em ring, can't hear the person I'm talking too, so I'm afraid to try another one.
Personally, I'm keeping my T'bolt, it's worked perfectly for me as long as I've had it and, with the right ROM it's been a very good phone for me.
As always, YMMV.
My next phone WILL be a Galaxy Note 2, my phone is through work and we are upgrade eligible in Feb, which is when I will get it. I just love that beast and was playing with a friend's today. Battery life is absurdly long (With no need for the ridiculous looking extended battery I have on the bolt) and it packs a mean processor and ram. In my hands the size doesn't look that ridiculous, in fact, I think it's perfect.
The lack of a removable battery and sd card in the dna is irrelevant due to the fact that the phone gets ridiculous battery life and its otg capable meaning it can be connected to external devices like external hdds. The Samsung galaxy s3 and note 2 are both very nice phones too. At least with htc you get the benefit of having sense and aosp roms whereas with Samsung you get touchwiz which is basically a themed aosp. A very tough choice if you ask me.

The Dinc...best phone ever.
The next HTC will be a stepped down phone, not a beast like the DNA. At least that's my opinion based on past phone releases. I like Sense, so I'd say the DNA.

But didn't they get the bootloader unlocked on the S3 and N2? So I'm guessing now people have custom roms for the S3 and N2? If so, I would think there would be, at some point, sense and aosp roms for S3/N2, right?
The dna is already unlocked and s off. Htc also released sources already. No it is impossible for sense to be on any device other than htc.

It's very relevant to me in that I won't buy any phone w/o both as it won't meet my needs. If it works for you, great, it won't for me.

When all phones made has no SD card slot or a removable battery you will stop owning a cell phone all together? Lol

You're going to love it.
The Note II is definitely worth looking at for an upgrade.

That won't happen, of course. Even if it did, I still have a perfectly good Thunderbolt.
Galaxy Note 2...'nuff said. 2GB RAM, 1.8 GHtz processor, dual-app running...heaven haha
