i am currently using a captivate on rogers canada. looking at a free upgrade to the s2. with rogers i know its LTE so im pretty sure its the skyrocket? i am in the right forum here for the rogers s2?
what id also like to know is if the s2 is a big upgrade from my current device (ics is important as im using it now) or if i should wait it out for the s3?
would also love to hear some pros and cons from some rogers users too! thanks guys!

i have a skyrocket, and LTE is amazing. Also no network congestion becuz its the only phonr they sell with LTE right now.
There are quite a few ex-captivate users in this section and they are quite happu with the switch. The S3 isnt due out until the earliest Sept, and for me thats quite a wait, for u it may be different
LTE is great, but if your really in Cold Lake, Alberta I don't know if you will get an LTE signal.
the rogers coverage map shows 4G HSPA in your area
yes i am in cold lake. definetly no LTE here. right now i am on the fence about upgrading to either this device or the galaxy nexus. though i like the look of the skyrocket better than the nexus. what are your guys opinions on the two?
also the htc raider has LTE according to the rogers site but where we dont have LTE and probably wont for quite some time its not a deal breaker for me.
i can wait...i do love ics on my cappy...but a newer device is always nicer :-D . what are the ics roms like for the skyrocket? is it sim unlockable? bootloader?

Depends on what your looking for bro.
The HD2 is a hacker's dream device though.
Get it if your bored with the captivate i guess?
Does it have AT&T 3G bands? Does it have features you want compared to Captivate? Those are questions I'd ask myself.
My friend has one and its ok. I love how crisp our screen. My friend likes my captivate better. But it only has T-mo 3g bands unless you get the Australian addition for At&t 3g bands. I say stick with the captivate especially since the Gingerbread leak just came out.

Actually the HD2 has full CM7 support which always has the latest gingerbread builds...so I'd just suggest playing around with it and if you like it then get it.
I would get an Inspire. You can't hack it as much, but it has full CM support. The ROM's have such a high quality feel. Plus it's 4G, or at least what AT&T conisders 4G.

lol id like to keep it if i can get 3/4g download and upload speeds on it with my tmo sim.
Yeah..just flash T-Mobile radio..though I've never gotten good upload speeds I range between 4 to 7 down when I'm on 3g..you won't get 4g.

is this phone THAT MUCH better than the att and tmobile branded galaxy s2?
The SR is capable of flying on TMO's WCDMA bands.. However its not as perfect as a T989 would be, but very usable. Biggest issue i've had with using it on tmo was the random drops of data. (Nothing major, just every once in a while it'd tank and I'd have to go to airplane mode and back out to get it going again)
To directly answer your question: Yes the Skyrocket can be made to function on Tmobile 3g/4g (non lte obviously)
It will require an unlock code though.

No........this phone is not THAT MUCH BETTER than the S II. But you cannot get 4G with the S II. But many things about the S II are still very good or better than SkyR....starting from the processor - not its speed but its quality.

S3 @ 1.5 beats exynos at 1.2 lol. S3 @ 1.2? Now that's a different story
The title says it all im really not sure which one. I have T-Mobile but i can get the AT&T skyrocket now for a little bit cheaper than the T-mobile Galaxy S II. My problem is that i am not down to lose my HSPA+ speeds with T-mobile. Because the phone will be AT&T and not T-mobile. But I do know that the skyrocket does indeed have the T-mobile HSPA+ speeds. I am fairily android savvy so i can most likely figure out all that stuff you know? But if I do go the AT&T route does the phone work flawlessly just like it would as if I had the T-mobile version? Or will battery life take a hit? etc?
i vote att. i like them

Wait what? You like tmo but want skyrocket. But like tmo phone but not skyrocket. Id just get the carrier specfic device. Sometimes running different phones on carriers doesn't always work out of box.... you might run into bigger issuses if you ever lost or damaged your phone too.
[ ICS-Leak 4.0.3] SkYrOcKeT
I have T-mobile and I will be keeping them. Butttt I want to get the Skyrocket because its cheaper lol. And i dont care about losing or any of that
Skyrocket gets about 3g speeds...not 4g. If you're out of contract with TMobile you could try straight talk for 45 per month. Consistent 3g speed.

i have a skyrocket i727 and I am on Tzones for Tmo ($5 internet).
Works flawlessly, great speeds, haven't found many holes in reception. Problem is heating, and battery life. If you are paying for the full prefferred internet plan, i would definitely get the t989

Thank you for the input but it is slightly false and wrong the skyrocket would receive 4G speeds because all of T-Mobiles stuff is the same

Ohhhhh so I wouldn't be able to downgrade to the T-Zones? And yeah I heard that the battery drain is drastic and the phone runs hot. I just went ahead and got the T-Mobile variant

Both you would use on At&t?
Would you be using either the t-mobile or the att version on the at&t network unlocked?
Want to trade/sell my inspire to get a different phone... something with around the same specs and screen size. Is a iPhone 3GS better? I need a new phone cause I can't handle the edge connection. I unlokced my ispire for tmobile and that's all I get is edge, I want 3g...
Any ideas or thoughts on good trades...
Sent from my Inspire HD using XDA Premium
Yeah go buy an iphone. Oh wait, you will only get edge with it too. If you want 3G data on T-mobile then buy a T-mobile phone. Try this link: http://www.t-mobile.com

You're joking, right?
Seriously though, if you are on T-Mobile, you should be looking for a phone that works on their bands. As far as a trade, I don't know what you could expect to get for an Inspire right now.
I know on cdma theres an app to force 3G on roam and it works pretty good. And there are tweaks for unlocked phones on other networks to force 3G. Is this not possible for GSM?
Sent from my I9300 using XDA
Roaming has NOTHING to do with it. T-mobile has it's own distinct 3G data bands that are different from the rest of the world. If you want 3G on T-mobile, get a T-mobile branded phone. Go to the T-mobile link I gave you and look at the phones and their reviews. And this topic has nothing to do with the Inspire let alone the development of it.
How much are you asking for your inspire?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
We arent your financial advisers haha. best thing wouldl be go to tmobile and find a phone that works on their network. google gsm arena, that will get u a site that lists phone specs and you can compare them. research = key.
I have to agree. If you want 3g then get a tmobile phone. Its hat simple.

I live in Omaha NE, and we still have yet to actually have 4g access. Anyone in an area without 4g have the Galaxy S III and still recommend it?
I sometimes go in spots where there is only 3g.Coming from my x2, even when only in 3g the s3 is faster and smoother then my old 3g phone, but everything is evidently gonna be 4g so you can't go wrong it's a nice phone.

Well I use to live in a 4G city, Wichita, KS. Now I live in a town with only 3G, and I still love this phone! 4G is awesome, but this phone is still amazing without 4G, 4G is just icing on the cake.

This is sort of like asking if you should build a gaming PC even though you only have dial up.
Your connection is just one part of the experience. It's up to you how smooth and fast you want everything else to be.

When you say 4g, do you mean hspa+ or lte?
I live in an area with no lte, I get respectable hspa+ speeds. If you have no hspa or lte, then I find that surprising. I thought at&t set out to cover areas lacking hspa with LTE first. Thats why cities like Philadelphia just got LTE today.
Anyway i recommend getting the s3. Its the best LTE phone out by far and eventually at&t will cover you with LTE.

i bought me and my wife both the GS3 and live in a 3G only area only work occasionally in a poor 4G area. I came from a Nexus S and wouldn't look back at buying a different phone.

As it has been stated above...4g or no 4g this is (imo) the best phone out there.
I live in a non-4g area and I love the phone. I figure that whatever phone I get is only gonna be 3g (most of the time) so why not buy the best.
Plus it's like a bonus treat when I travel to a city with 4g and I see the little 4g icon pop up...It's like a special gift form the city to me
This phone is a beast, 4G or not. The processor, RAM, screen, functionality, development choices, and style are just a few things that should sway you toward buying this. Wait for what? I doubt anything can be better than the GS3 for another year.

Not sure what you're talking about. Omaha through Lincoln has great 4g service. At Eppley in Omaha last week, received 20 down and 10mps up on 4g using Speednet app.

Apple confused the hell out of everyone on the 4S. I frequently talk to people with the iPhoney that think they have 4G service. Also heard of an IPOD nano coming out that is labeled 5G? or something like that. I just wish they would continue to avoid 4G service and dread the day Apple users suck up all the 4G bandwidth.
SGS3 is an awesome phone, whether you are on 3G/4G-LTE it's going to kick your old phone to the curb. The phone is faster so I could possibly pull better speeds even on 3G than your current handset. If you travel at all you'll be 4G/LTE ready and when you finally get updated locally you'll see awesome immediately.
There is also huge support for the SGS3 because of the bootloader getting unlocked a few weeks back and of course because it's just such an awesome phone period.
