AT&T address book

I'm trying to short through all my contacts. Put them in groups and all that good stuff.
I have all my gmail contacts in my phone, all ungrouped.I read that setting up the att address book helps with this problem. Only for the life of me I can't seem to set it up. I even found the user guide online. It says that when you first click on contacts that it should ask you for this n that. I don' recall doing any of that. Doesn't say anything on how to get back to it if you didn't do it the first time.
So, would someone help this no0b out please.
If there is a better way that I don't have to go through AT&T to get my contacts in groups please let me know.
Thank you.
Go into your contact list and click the Menu button, More, Settings, AT&T address book, click OK.
then go to att.com/addressbook. Register for a MEdia account if you don't have one. Then you can sign in and see them. The phone should automatically throw your contacts up on there, then you just have to organize them.
Or you can get on your computer, log into your Gmail account, select "Contacts," and use that interface to place them into groups.
It is very easy to do. You just need to look around the screen for the control buttons as they aren't always where you expect them. The benefit to doing this is that the interface is on your computer and easy to use.
Don't have any experience with the ATT contacts app.... I deleted EVERYTHING I could that was proprietary ATT as most of that stuff costs more money and much of it doesn't work as well as the stock apps anyway!

[Guide] Using the Amazon Appstore from outside the US (including paid apps)

I want to point out that this guide IS NOT mine and I did not write it up. I simply mirror it on this site. The original link is: http://android.modaco.com/content/s...tore-from-outside-the-us-including-paid-apps/
Enjoy
The Amazon Appstore launched recently and it's very cool, but unfortunately it's limited to US customers, leaving the rest of us out in the cold. Which sucks. BUT, there are ways around it! Successfully using the Appstore relies on you having a US presence - a US credit card, a US address and a US phone number (handily, not a US IP), but there are ways to meet this criteria.
Here's how i'm happily using the Amazon Appstore on by device from the UK.
I've listed two options for each step of the process below. First is what I would call the 'recommended' way of doing things and the second is a slightly more dubious alternative approach (albeit perhaps easier). I'm using the recommended way, but I've been told the other way works.
Enjoy - please post below if the process works for you.
P
PS Follow @aafaotd on Twitter to find out the latest free apps of the day (with rating and previous price).
Step 1 - Creating your Amazon account
To use the Appstore, first you need to create an Amazon.com account. This should be seperate from your main account, with a unique e-mail address. I use Gmail so I have a handy facility to provide a unique e-mail address built in to my e-mail account... by signing up with the address [email protected] (everything after the + is ignored in Gmail routing but can be used for filtering etc.).
To sign up with Amazon.com,visit the Amazon.com sign in page and select 'No, I am a new customer'.
Step 2 - Setting up your billing address
Next you need to set up a US address (which will be the billing address you associate with the payment card on the account) - you do this on the Manage Address Book page. This MUST be a valid US address.
Recommended: I signed up for a 'USUnlocked' virtual payment card ($10) which provides you with a legitimate US billing address to enter in your account. I signed up for this on a weekend and had the details available to me the same day. Other virtual cards are available, let us know if you find a good one with a real US billing address!
Alternative: You don't actually plan to get anything shipped to this address, so you COULD enter any valid US address here, e.g. '1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043' (which happens to be the home of Google).
Step 3 - Setting up your phone number
While setting up your address in the step above, you will be prompted for a phone number. This MUST be a US phone number.
Recommended: The easiest way to get a valid US address is via a SIP account (I use sipgate.com, which I signed up to using a free US VPN service. Hotspot Shield is one such service.) There are however many SIP providers who provide US inbound numbers (including Google Voice, which you should also be able to configure with a US VPN connection), so this part is pretty straightforward.
Alternative: You don't actually plan on receiving any calls to this number, so you COULD just enter any number starting with +1. Easier than that, you can just enter +1!
Step 4 - Setting up your payment card
Next you need to set up a US payment card - you do this on the Manage Payment Options page. This MUST be a valid US card (my UK Amex for example wasn't accepted).
Recommended: As mentioned above, I signed up for a 'USUnlocked' virtual payment card ($10) which provides you with a Discover card number to enter in your account.
Alternative: You don't actually plan to buy anything with this card, so you COULD use a test card number from one of the card companies, such as those listed by PayPal.
Step 5 - Install the AppStore on your device
Now that you've set up your Amazon account, you need to install the Appstore on your device. Point your web browser at http://go.modaco.com/aadownload and the APK will be downloaded directly to your device.
Once the app is installed, run it and sign in with your new Amazon.com account and you're all set!
Step 6 (optional) - Purchasing paid apps from the Amazon Appstore
If you've set up the account with a valid US payment card then paid apps will just work. If the card you have registered is either empty of funds or a 'test card', payments will fail. BUT, helpfully, retrying payments can be carried out with any card, from any country! So, to buy an app...
•Purchase the app in the Appstore on the Amazon website or on your device - the initial payment will fail
•Visit the Digital Orders Page page and you will see your pending purchases
•Choose the option to retry the purchases, this time using your non-US card
•The payments will complete and you will be able to download the apps on your device

[HOW TO]Chat on Facebook without using Messenger[Various method]

How to send messages on Facebook without installing the messenger app in Android
Facebook, recently decided to undertake this fairly unpopular practice – while the former decoupled the check-in feature to a whole new app, called Swarm, the latter decided that its users shouldn't be able to chat from the main Facebook app anymore, but make use of the chat head-wielding Messenger instead. The latter has been allegedly gaining market share in favor of its messenger rivals, but isn't forcing it to users the main reason behind this?

Click to collapse
Well, forced things are never highly looked upon and quite a lot of users have expressed their utter displeasure with Facebook for taking the messages away from the main app. If you're one of the distressed Facebook users, rejoice, as a workaround exists that will allow not Messenger, but your main Facebook app to handle your messages. Of course, you can always go to the mobile version of Facebook and access your messages from there, but a lot of users probably prefer to delve into one of the most popular social networks through the dedicated app.
Click to collapse
We'll show you the ropes on how to do this, but you should have in mind that this method only works for some users. Facebook will surely find another way to force Messenger upon them in the foreseeable future, but for the time being, at least some of the users of the social network get to do things their way.
So here it goes with the method 1.)
A quick guide for those who want to use Facebook messages without downloading facebook messenger.
Step 1
Uninstall Facebook messenger (if you have it installed)
Step 2
Make sure you have Unknown sources enabled from device settings
Step 3
Install the attached apk (hello world application) or create a new (empty) android project with the package name com.facebook.orca
As long as the only validation that the facebook app does is checking to find if an app with package name com.facebook.orca is installed on the phone this should work
Thanks to @nemoc 23 For his guide
I'll attach the Messenger.apk in the attachment too.you can download from there too
Method 2.) [For Non-Rooted Device]
Make sure you have Facebook official app already installed in your smartphone (no need to root), and if the Facebook app is not allowing you to chat with your friends, then try to download the Facebook messenger initially from Google play store, here is the tricky part, before completing the download (100%) cancel the downloading of Facebook messenger (make sure it’s not installing) and yeah, you are ready to use the official Facebook app again to chat with your friends, give a try and tell us if it’s working for you or not!
Method 3).[For rooted device]
STEP 1: Download the official Facebook Messenger App from Play Store.
STEP 2: Download “TITANIUM BACKUP” or “DISABLE APPLICATION” App from Play Store
STEP 3: Open Titanium Backup and give it ROOT privileges. Scroll down to Messenger App
STEP 4: Select the Messenger App which will result in a dialog box to open up. Hit the “FREEZE” button which will freeze the application eventually.
STEP 5: Once the app is freezed it will be highlighted in blue tint color.
STEP 6: Now open the Facebook App and go to the Messages section of it.
STEP 7: Choose the person you want to chat with and you are good to go!
Enjoy the freedom until it lasts! Feel free to let us know if there are any other method and we will update this post with those methods too!
Thanks for making this tutorial
Well explained

[APP][BETA] Wifi Based Social App

Hello everyone, new here at XDA forums and just trying to get some feedback from the community on a project I have been working on. This application is not done, but I do think that *most* of the main features are in place and its a good time to get some feedback on the UI and maybe more importantly the overall idea behind the application. Basically this app will connect anyone who is connected to the same wifi network. I think this will be cool in large places that share one wifi network, like a college campus, large office buildings, etc.. When you are connected, the app calls it a "zone", so, when you are in a zone with other users, you can live chat with any other user in the zone, and there is also a public board where any user can make posts (images & text). When you make a post, you are able to see how many views that your post has gotten, and exactly who has viewed the post, which is something people may like, I want you guys to be the judge of this though. Please, play around with it, send me a chat message in the app if you'd like, my name is "Dylan Rose", you will be able to just click my name and send a message.
Something you may be wondering is, if this app only lets users interact when they are connected to the same wifi network, how are we going to interact right now? Good question. I have the app set up in debug mode right now so the system thinks that any user who signs in is in one zone called "Test - Zone", so if you see that in your toolbar after you sign in, you're in the right place! :good:
Overall, let me know in your experience, will people want to use this app? I see it being used in larger areas like college campuses where lots of people are connected to the same network, but I want you guys to be the judge of that, so let me know!
Link to the APK: wikisend.com/download/519920/app-debug.apk
Cant thank you guys enough for trying this out and leaving me with some feedback!
This application does use a Google API to allow you to sign in with any google account. All I actually use is
Display Name
Profile Photo
User ID
GCM-ID (To send push notifications, when you get a chat message)
This application also uses the persmissions
INTERNET
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE
GET_ACCOUNTS
USE_CREDENTIALS (credentials actually used described above)
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Used to store photos when you take a photo in-app)
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (used to grab a photo that you would like to include in a post)
CAMERA (Used to take a photo in-app that you would like to include in your post)
RECEIVE (Receive GCM push notifications)
C2D_MESSAGE (Receive GCM Push notifications)
Tried to post some screenshots but since I'm a newer user here at this forum I was not allowed to post outside links!
I might try it
This sounds like something that would be fun for a business or school environment. My question: what do the following permissions do:
find accounts on the device
use accounts on the device
I'm concerned of course that this app which isn't vetted yet by anyone, might be doing something I don't want it to do.

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to check out my description. As for the accounts permissions that this application uses: The app lets users sign in via google account. In order to use googles sign-in API, I did need to use these permission in my manifest. The find accounts is used when you first click the login button, a dialog of the google accounts that you have linked to your device show up, and you choose which one you would like to sign in to the app with. The use accounts is for allowing my application to know some general data about the account that you sign in with, these include your Display name, Account photo, and your user id.
Please let me know if you have any further concerns, and I look forward to hearing what you think of the app!
Thanks again,
-Dylan R.
