I want to know what is the stock installed modem name on the stock gingerbread on sgs4g?
Thanx

I'd say ki3 but thats for where I live. I'd always flash it right after flashing a new rom.

KJ6 but it's crap. Don't say you weren't warned.
KG4 is more stable than the other ones I've tried. I haven't had issues with GPS or sending long SMS messages. You can go ahead and test others, but like I said, I've had the best performance with KG4
I'm using sidekick kd1.

I use kj6 with no problems. And I've never had the SMS problem so many reported.

The reason why I asked is beacause I flashed the sidekick modem and it drains battery more... so I'm looking for a stock modem that will sleep when the phone is not in use.. why are there so many modems... kd1 and all the way up to kj6? Are all of them stock modems for our phone? Are they just updates of each other?... just wanted to know more.
Thanx again guys

There is a modem for each ROM version (leak or official release). So when VUVKD1 was released, the modem with it had the same last three character designation. People have reported that they receive better performance in their area using certain modems over the others - it's a trial and error thing to see which is best for you.
I know when KJ6 came out a lot of people reported issues with sending long SMS messages. As FB said, he reverted to KG4 and it works better for him. Try 'em all & see which works best for you in your area.
Thanx for the info.. I will.. I just really want the one that drains battery less

i know the KG4 leak is still new to us, and a bunch of us are getting weak wifi signal vs. stock rom. But is anyone working on or found a fix for this? i really hate to go back to 2.2 because battery life on KG4 and 4g connection is way better, but with the stupid 2 gb cap/ bad reception at work building, wifi is kind of a big deal. so if any dev's can find a fix for the weak signal, many would greatly appreciate! thanks
I think the only option is to wait it out until the devs get it fully working. They've been working hard in my opinion, but it will definitely come here soon. And i just have a quick question, what are the benfits/cons of gingerbread kf2 compared to a froyo kd1? Sorry for the weak answer too. Thanks.

"Different hardware" is not the whole story. Look at LinuxBozo's Galaxy ROM Hellraiser Beta9. A user managed to flash Samsung based Captivate/Vibrant ROMs (obviously, you've got to "make sure it's Samsung Gingerbread based" {-LinxBozo}).

Much of the ui can be ported. But I don't know if using the whole rom while adding infuse libs has been tried or is likely to work. I think there are just too many differences. But if you feel motivated then try it. Start pulling in libs and bins from infuse roms and make sure you have the unbrick package ready. But remember to use an infuse kernel and modem.

I actually want to try it someday. The only problem is that I'm still not too savvy on this, so I don't know anything about pushing libs and bins and everything else. Flashing the kernel and modem, I have no problem with. It's the other files I have to get together... Oh well.

That's because the Infuse hardware is much closer to the I9000/Captivate than to the GS2.

Hmm... Interesting. I tried SensatioN with Hellraiser yesterday, and I had some info on the "about phone" section (don't remember if I had it all), and that modem and tweak setup, I'm gonna have to give it a try. I'm currently in stock because, yesterday, I was feeling defiant and tried to flash a JVS ROM from the i9000 forum with Hellraiser, as opposed to a JVQ, and ended up in an eternal bootloop. I was a bit tired so I just returned to stock and went to sleep. I'm gonna see if I give it a second try today in the afternoon. And also, I don't know why, my SensatioN was lagging a bit. I should've rebooted my phone a couple of times (instead of immediately making a call after rebooting the first time) to create some stability. I might give it a second try later today. I'll let you know how it goes. (I'm feeling sooo defiant this week. I WANT to make a JVS/JVR ROM work. All the JVQ ROMs I found, weren't very appealing, or were left in the dust by the devs.) lol
I had the same problem so went to the i9000 sensation and no problems worked beautifully very nice rom
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I give up. I tried to flash a JVS ROM by flashing a stock JVS i9000 ROM, and flashing two other .zip files, then Hellraiser, but, one of them, CWM would abort every time I tried to flash it, so it got stuck in bootloop also. I'm gonna try SensatioN one more time. If I fail to make it work again, I'm going to stick to Infused. I hope someone manages to port SGSII ROMs for Infuse I really want to get my hands on one.
U and me both. Have u tried the ported dlev rom? I flashed hellraiser beta 9 on top of it. Probably my favorite rom out right now fast responsive awesome battery life. Give it a shot if u haven't already.

I have never been able to send large SMS. You sure the SMS you are sending now is somewhat like the ones you sent before? I think SMS have limits so maybe it could be that in KJ6 they altered it. Don't know. Just random thoughts.
There were other threads with people having this issue after upgrading to kj6. Not sure of a resolution, though.

I had the same problem with sending large texts after upgrading to the official Gingerbread release from KI3... so I ended up flashing the KI3 modem from the modems thread back to my phone and that fixed the problem.
So I'm wondering if anyone has been able to find a 2.3.6 rom that allows long texts?I've tried octane 3.0 simply simple, Valhalla final. And I 2have had 2 resort 2 putting ki3 back in order to send long Texts.I guess the sacrifice of official gb is the long texts 8(.

Exactly correct, the long SMS and large mms issues are from kj6's modem.bin. Using ki3 or another modem fixes this.

2) many people use it as a dd, no fcs or instabilities, just a few tiny bugs, that may or may not annoy (shutdown/reboot anyone?)

There's no reason to downgrade to EP4...all the updated ROM's are based on FP1, and the PBJ kernel is updated to FP1. I don't understand the reasoning behind downgrading.
Stock FP1 is seriously better. I'd never go back ...

Make sure you have the battery in when you flash in Odin.
If you've taken the OTA to the FP1 version, then you already have the latest modems and don't an update for them. If not, we don't have a complete image of the FP1 modems. The easiest way to get them is to flash to stock EP4 and take the OTA. Failing that, there is a CWM compatible update that will flash you from EP4 to FP1 modems. I don't have the link handy, but I can try to dig it up for you if need it.
I did do the ota to fp1. To put it in download mode I power off pull battery connect to the data cable while holding down, wait for the download screen to appear then insert battery back in. I opened pda and found tweaked 2.1 with pbj kernel I click on it and it tried to start but then popped error on md5 mismatch.

Voltage Control is a free overclocking/undervolting app that works quite well with the PBJ kernel. I find running the smartassV2 governor makes the biggest difference in performance for me. Overclocking makes a small improvement in performance, and undervolting makes a small improvement in battery life. Some safe starting values to try for undervolting are 100/-100, 200/-100, 400/-75, 800/-50, 1000/-50, 1200/-25. Most processors can go lower voltages than that, but that's a good start.

Well s voice probably requires some of the sgs3 framework so it wouldn't work here. Also it is built on ics so it probably wouldn't work on gb. Finally to install a system app you can't use package installer. You just place the apk in /system/app.
