Because you're carrying a browser written by Google on your device already, which uses the same rendering engine as Chrome.
What more would you like? If you want a heavier browser then just take a look at Firefox or Dolphin, or any other ones that I may not know about.
I figured that would be the case and I'd just look like a noob. Oops. It would be cool if they gave Chrome a little more recognition in the Android OS, iOS has Safari on the iPhone... I'm not a huge sucker for branding but I happen to be a big Chrome fan, I've been down since beta
We are all noobs at some point...
Don't argue with the branding point... who knows... maybe there is a reason they avoid naming it something like Chrome Mobile.

My chrome bookmarks are mostly random useless links and ebay items... So its not so useful. A Chromesque UI would be sweet

Miren is using the same engine with default browser, but with Chromeish UI.
Heh, although the guts may be the same, I too wish the stock Android browser looked more like Chrome. Thankfully, Honeycomb appears to have a close-to-full version of Chrome as its stock browser, tabs and all - with luck, this will work well on large-screened phones too.
If you just want something that looks the part, grab xScope and use the Chrome-like themes.

Far from it imo. It would probably be my second choice but I dont see ditching Firefox for Chrome for atleast a year, maybe longer. Firefox with it's extensive extensions library makes my life much easier to where I would have to vote it the best browser. Maybe when/if my extensions are ported, or an alternative of equal or greater functionality I would consider switching mainly due to the notorious memory leaks in firefox.

I love xScope! It is the fastest and most feature packed browser on the market imo. Well fastest with the exclusion of Opera, but seeing as there servers compress the web page, you cant fairly compare it to any other browser in the android market.

I like xScope a lot too, but I'm holding off on v6 until they bring back swipe-to-hide tabs & menu bar. Don't like relying on hardkeys for anything. Adopted Miren for some time, since it does have swipe-to-show/hide. It's getting a lot better and less power/resource hungry in recent updates. Also keeping a close eye on Fennec, it has a spiffy UI and just needs a wee bit more optimization.
Back using stock CM7 browser for now.

Google has said numerous times that Chrome is aimed at the desktop platform, just as they say honeycomb is for Pads and android is for phones. Since the pads are very similar to BIG Phones it is reasonable that they both run similar operating systems with one just taking advantage of more screen space.
Each platform has different needs and we interface with each differently.
So Google is keeping them as seperate entities until they perfect each interface for each platform. It's actually a smart move. Once they actually do they could consider making one OS to rule them all that runs just as well on your phone as your desktop!
But thats a long way away if you ask me.

But a simple port is probably not going to work too well without adding scaling and touch gestures to the interface.

Miren is a good browser. But I think Maxthon Mobile is at least as good. Maxthon also has Super Gesture, which makes browsing much easier. Also, don't forget favorites syncing from your desktop and other cool features =)

Yes the mobile version is a webkit based browser. The PC version has dual display engine, which is based on both Webkid and Trident. =)

I'd like to see the desktop UA as well. I'm having issues using the YouTube mobile site. When I click on a video, it does not launch or ask me how I want to play the video. The full website works flawlessly. Overall, a very nice browser.
I was looking for a solution to invert browser colors on my Epic4G. I look forward to a day when Cyanogenmod runs on the epic so I can use the modded browser with "invert colors". Dolphin HD's "Reader" addon was close, but it added padding to the browser on my Epic.
So... i decided maybe a javascript bookmarklet could do what i wanted. turns out, it did.
This has only been tested in the Android 2.3.4 stock browser. To use it, copy the code from the page linked to below into the clipboard and add a new bookmark, pasting the code into the URL box. Give it a name like "Invert Color". Then when you're viewing a page you want to invert, open the bookmarks menu, and click the bookmark.

You still have to click the link for every page you browse to for now, but perhaps somebody knows a better way. I did try to contact Dolphin for info on writing Addons, but it doesn't seem very open. I haven't used firefox mobile too much yet, but maybe there is potential there...
I wasn't sure exactly where to post this, and since it might work on any device with a browser that supports bookmarklets, i put it in general. mods should feel free to move it with my thanks!

It should work in any modern HTML compliant browser that supports javascript in bookmarks. You'll probably have to copy and paste the javascript into the bookmark and give it a try. Please let us know if it does I tried this weekend in Dolphin HD on Android, and in Mobile Safari on Apple's iPad2 and it works there too.

i tried it works on windowsphone IE 9 in mango
But not all webpages invert colour
and also each time u need to press the bookmarklet
is there a permanent solution?

Glad to hear it works in mango!
Unfortunately i don't know a way to make it permanent, i think the browser would have to allow such plugins to run automatically every time a page loads. (like a greasemonkey script, etc)
If you send a link to a page that wont invert I'll check it out and see if i can fix it. If it has a background image or flash there's not much i can do without removing background images altogether...

or make an entire new browser and upload to marketplace for free
Tony, thanks for this. It inspired me to think about a more permanent solution using a web filtering proxy. I have proof that it would work, but I don't have the skills to develop this further. Browsers that support web storage could probably do it.
Also the one browser I know wont have a problem making it permanent would be Opera Mobile, because it supports user javascript and css like the desktop browser does.

Yeah, it's not quite as friendly to do as the desktop browser, but you can set the userjs/usercss locations and such in opera.ini and mod whatever you like.

Pardon me, but this is rediculous! How do you justify accessing your private site for a "bookmarklet" over 90 kb in size running and incorporating parts of several versions of jQuery??
I put it to you that this is spyware! Swapping foreground and background colors is a oneliner in any version of this bookmarklet, doesn't need any external sites, runs much faster and doesn't have privacy issues like this garbage!

I assure you this is not any kind of spyware, read the source, it's all there in plain text... Feel free to provide the one liner bookmarklet you refer to if you are really trying to be helpful, otherwise, move along...

If you want to use chromeon your touchpad, install Ubuntu on it. There is a guide to install it in Hp touchpad section.

I am aware of that, but i was wondering if some could have the same Chrome on your computer be on the touchpad with those tabs and hopefully the same browsing speed, I pretty much just don't want stock browser anymore.

Sorry mate but for now u only have one option: advanced browser that allow tabs. But that is also functionality wise more or less same as stock browser.

well i obiously posted of what i was looking for and i got the wrong answer, all i got was the chromium in ubuntu which i wasnt looking for.
Even if you could get the sources to compile into something that produces a browser window on the TouchPad, it still wouldn't yield a very pleasant experience. Those sources are for a desktop browser, not a tablet/touch browser. All of the touch-based interaction and gestures you expect on a tablet wouldn't be present, and the UI would be set up for a mouse and keyboard.
Obviously it's possible to change/extend the app for a better tablet experience--the Mozilla guys have done exactly that with Firefox on Android--but it's a HUGE undertaking!
What would be a more realistic goal is trying to figure out what you're missing from Chrome in the TouchPad's browser and try to build a new shell around that browser core similar to Advanced Browser on webOS, Dolphin/Miren on Android, and PerfectBrowser/Atomic Web on iOS. All of these browsers use Webkit as the core rendering engine so the rendered page should be very similar. It's more about the features offered by the browser shell. If your goal is to support Chrome plugins, you're probably SOL, so it's best to decide what are the concrete must-have features that are missing (tabs, form field completion, etc.).
Once the Android port is ready for prime-time, you might just consider moving over to Android and installing either Dolphin or Firefox. Both have many of the features expected from the desktop versions including pretty extensive plugin/extension libraries.
I imagine this response isn't terribly helpful other than in an educational sense, but I hope it helps a bit...

thanks at least i get an idea, so does this mean i have to wait for team touchdroid to get android apps rolling and then just download firefox or dolphin.

Well, there are two efforts underway, the primary one to get Android going on the TouchPad hardware, but that's instead of webOS (at least in terms of which OS is running at any given time; they're trying to allow dual-boot so you can switch between them during reboot). In that case, you'd just have an Android tablet with Android apps.
The other effort is to try to get Android's Dalvik VM (virtual machine) going under webOS so that you can run Android apps under webOS. This is the approach taken by RIM with the Blackberry Playbook. Obviously that's a much trickier proposition, and some apps reach around the Dalvik VM into the native Android/Linux APIs. I'm not sure how those fit in with the second approach.
Anyway, neither of these will be ready for prime-time for a while, so for now my best advice is to echo what others have said and recommend you buy Advanced Browser. You'll get a tabbed UI, saved passwords (and form fields, I think), etc. It's not quite what you want, but it's the closest you'll get for some indeterminate period of time.

I can't see anyone porting Android browsers such as Dolphin over to webOS, and while it looks like there have been efforts to build Firefox for webOS, it doesn't look like any of them are ready for prime-time. The second of the two options I cited above involves hosting Android apps in webOS directly by implementing a Dalvik VM for webOS. Again, there are folks working on that, but my take is that it has WAY less momentum than the efforts to get Android itself running on the TouchPad hardware, i.e., basically converting the TouchPad from a webOS tablet into an Android tablet.
It's also questionable how well Android apps would run in a Dalvik VM/webOS environment. I know that RIM Playbook's commercial implementation of the same thing requires developers to make some set of changes to their Android apps for them to work on the Playbook, so it's not just a matter of putting a Dalvik VM on webOS, installing the Android Market, and then installing all of the Android apps you want (though that would be SWEET!).
So in summary, right now you would do best to see if Advanced Browser closes the functionality gap enough to keep you happy. For the some indeterminate period of time, it's probably the best option you're going to find.
Of course right after I say something about Dolphin not being ported, it shows up for iOS:

UPDATE: I just sent them a message asking if they'd consider a build for webOS based on that browser component since obviously they can get it working on both the Android and iOS browser components. I don't expect anything to happen, but never hurts to ask.
i have been looking for a way to get internet explorer web sites to work on my tablet but have had no luck as of yet could someone help me out or is there something to do. tried the about:debug did not work. please help

What tablet do you have and which version of android are you running? If your running ICS or your device has support for ICS you can try Chrome on your tablet.

The other alternatives you could use are like Dolphin Browser HD and Opera Mini Web Browser. If you go with Dolphin be sure to set it as desktop so it will give you normal full sites instead of the mobile version of sites.

Use Opera HD instead of Dolphin and set it to desktop. This is as close as you will get to proper rendering. However, the site may play nicer with firefox set to desktop user agent.
I think ie is does'nt exist on android device CMIIW ....
You can try chrome if your tablet running ICS..

That's all well and good, but I also could do with IE on Android because some sites I need to access are specifically written for IE. While I can fudge the Agent string to get round the checks the website does, once in, it doesn't render correctly and you can't use the site.
I wish IE was also available because the default browser is clunky. I've heard Dolphon Browser is good, anybody have an opinion on Dolphin?

hello! i have volar vlr t702 and running android 4.0. i hate internet explorer but i must use ie for my job. i tried chrome, opera, dolphin but anyone didn't work on my job site. how can i use ie on my tablet? please help.

That is a compatibility problem of poor web code of the website you're trying to access, not the browser.
IE is developed by Microsoft and since they have Windows Mobile I doubt they're going to port IE to android. That being said, there are probably some unofficiall unstable ports and google is your friend there, but it's surely not worth the hassle.

Dolphin is great in every way, except that it doesn't support flash in it's pages, like Firefox does (and in the case of IE compatibility; it won't be able to render IE specific ActiveX plugins). If anyone finds a way to emulate or run IE under Android; I'll be most interested to know what's involved.
Someone on another forum post somewhere, mentioned that IE mobile (assuming it works for the sites in question); could potentially be ported or emulated with a Windows Mobile emulator? AFAIK: nobody has done this yet (probably fearing reprisal from Microsoft). But if it was done in such a way that if you owned a WM device; you could pull the binary off the existing phone, and run it in an emulated form under Android (effectively avoiding some of the reverse engineering contract clauses, and having the owners assume responsibility for not distributing copied images (already in the MS EULA)...then it might be sufficiently grey area that you could have a personal copy running (be it rather wastefully)?
opera renders sites good like pc browser
i think it is the closest browser to pc's
