I've used GoSMS for some time now. I love that i can customize it to my hearts desire and that it has a lot of themes. I ran it on GB with no issues. But I've tried several ICS ROMs and they all seem to cause lag and freezes. Fort some reason the pop up function and the app are not in synch. One is faster or slower than the other causing the app to freeze and force close on occasion. Has anyone had this problem?
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I use it with superlite 5.0 and have none of the problems you are having. You could try fixing the permissions via CWM or trying a cache/dalvik wipe. I would bet fixing your permissions would solve it.
Haven't had that problem but just had to delete gosms today because NO texts were going through. The second I deleted the app everything started again. Also when pressing on a contacts picture to call, numbers don't show up only what seems like code does.

I am using GO SMS with ICS stock leak and all is fine. Messages recieve and send normally. MMS is the same as well, all working correctly. I am also using the GO EX Launcher. Not sure if the two in conjunction with each other makes it more stable and usable or not though.

I used it with the stock ICS leak and Cool Ice mod and both had issues with the pop up message feature. I'd reply to a message and all was normal. Hours later I got no responce back and checked my texts to find nothing was ever set.
I suspect it may also have been a system SMS problem on mine as well though, even with GoSMS gone i would have constant missing messages, force closes, send errors etc..
I am running Sense Team Perfection, with Go Launcher and Go SMS. I have no issues with MMS or SMS.
Any chance of getting a logcat of errors for what people are having issues with? It might not even be GoSMS that is having issues...

I am having the same exact issues with my phone.
my phone is not rooted, its running the stock ICS, AT&T update.
I installed go sms and disabled the notifications in my regular messaging application, and now I receive no notifications in go sms unless I am in the actual program and it is running.
any ideas or advice?
i was running gosms on skyICS 4.2F6-2.0B and it worked fine. the only issue i had was on ocasion i would get double notifications. (stock sms and go sms) but everything else worked great.
I believe that gosms runs in the background all the time so i ended up deleting it. but that might be the reason for not recieving texts. Did you check in the advanced settings to see if there was a run in background option?

I just went in and found that feature to "Enable GO SMS run persistently" was checked. Still having the issue.
Im using go sms pro with Apex Launcher on stock ICS 4.0.4, no problems at all & the themes work just fine.
Sent from, The Eclectic Chair.
Go SMS working fine on my SR with 4.0.4, although I don't recommend the Go Launcher - seems like a waste of system resources to just get some neat home screen transitions that result in lag and hang-ups elsewhere. Love the customization of Go SMS, and it just feels more robust overall than stock SMS/MMS and other replacement apps. Got to be careful though, if you freeze or disable the stock app, MMS can start acting wonky and it may effect other functions also. Best solution is to set Go SMS as the default app and turn off the stock app's notifications so you don't get duplicates.
Would also recommend MightyText, which works fine with Go SMS (and better in my opinion than the Go SMS Web SMS feature), so you can text from a remote web browser.

Yes, stock rooted. I uninstalled Go Launcher & the only Go products that I am using now, are Go Sms & Go Locker (Go locker is not letting me change anything without reinstalling the launcher).

Go Launcher kept crashing and making my phone lag so I am only running Go SMS. I have GO SMS set as the default, the stock SMS app notifications are all turned off as well. Still no clue.
I find that I am able to receive messages with notifications while I am in GO SMS, but if I happen to force quit, its like ICS stops it from running in the background. Which was never the case on GB.

is anyone using HANDCENT SMS over the STOCK SMS application that comes with SENSE and ANDROID on the EVO? I am testing it out and its pretty cool! is there any reason not to use it? does it drain battery???
Been using Handcent for months now over the stock messenger & it's a go
Swyped by Gator_don & his Evo
I prefer handscent over stock app any day. Best part for me is that it pops up messages over the lock screen and lets you reply with out unlocking the phone.
I've been using Handcent since the Hero came out and had that massive battery drain issue with the stock message system that kept the cpu at 100% without letting it sleep...the first thing I downloaded when I got my EVO was Handcent! I love it!
I've always used and loved Handcent.
I used for a while with hero then evo, dropped it a month ago and get better battery lifr since, its a great program but in my evo it drains more battery than stock and I guess I just got used to stock again. miui messenger rocks too
Handcent since day one.
I've been using Handcent since the day after I got my Evo. I've tried others, like ChompSMS, but I keep coming back to Handcent.
handcent all day errryyy dayyy
Google Voice
The only draw back on handcent there is no way to use your google voice number with it.
But I love it.

Well said.
Well, I installed it and used it for a day and then could not figure out which combination of settings would keep the stock messaging app from popping up notifications in addition to the handcent notifications. clearing all the text notifications from not one but TWO apps got on my nerves in a hurry.
Simply disable notifications in Messages and you only have Handcent's popping up.
Is anyone else experiencing any lag with handcent?? Takes forever for the message to pop up on the screen n takes even longer for it to notify me once the message does pop up. The last few updates seem to have messed it up. Ive tried to uninstall n reinstalled but that hasnt worked. N on top of that, the stock messaging app doesnt work at all. I will never get any texts and sent texts will not go thro. So im stuck with handcent i guess for now.

You have to keep the messaging app, if you delete it/uninstall it, it will cause handcent to have those issues.

Correct but there is not way of using the google voice with any other messaging app. Only the google voice app itself. It would be great if you can integrate it with your messaging app and only need to use one. That would be sweeeeeeeet.

You simply open the stock app and go in to settings. From settings turn off all notifications. This stops the stock app from popping up and having 2 different apps telling you about your messages.

On the lockscreen, on the second slide down thing there is an ! with unknown beside it. After you unlock the phone you can't find that notification any where!
Already checked the notification bar and went and cleared the ram. Still the same. Does anyone know what it is trying to tell me or how to clear it?
I have factory reset the phone one time and it went away, but then came back in a day.
That's where the date goes. I see "unknown" there occasionally. I assume that this is because the phone hasn't gotten the date from the cell network yet, but still has the time cached internally. For me, it generally goes away after a bit.
The one time it didn't go away fairly quickly was when I had Handcent SMS installed and had configured my phone to use it and it's notifications, generally disabling the stock Messaging app and it's notifications. It stayed "unknown" while I had Handcent installed. When I removed Handcent and turned the stock SMS app back on it went back to showing the date.
I didn't test this rigorously, and have no idea if it's causal or just a coincidence. Has anyone else observed behavior like this?
thanks
I'm sure that it's handcent then, I haven't uninstalled it yet. But I bet that's it.
Thanks for the reply. Contacted handcent support about the bug.
I don't think its a handcent issue. I've had the same problem. The only way I got it to go away was to open the stock messaging app and view my last conversation. Then its off the lock screen. Try that. If it works for you...its an issue with stock software. I've had a fewb problems with the stock app. Wish I could just remove it lol

Found it
It seems if you turn off notifications in the Stock messaging app it gets cranky.
I turned them back on and it shows the time on the bottom lock screen.
I then went back and turned them back off and the time stayed, we'll see how long.
This is beyond annoying.
Screenshot, please?
Happns 2 me too glad 2 know I am not alone...

i think that this is a common thing, whenever i dont check my text msg or randomly click the power button, i would see the "!" at the bottom screen..dont know why
I had this problem too on my Sidekick 4G. I am using Handcent but I don't know if that's the cause for me.
What I did to solve this problem: I went into the stock messaging app, into the menu, where I chose "Browser Message". (This menu option is not always present, but apparently shows up when you get a message from your cell carrier.) There was one message listed, and I deleted it. After that, my lock screen displayed the date again.
When you get mms messages, it goes to the stock messaging app as well, so just go in the stock messaging app and view it in there and it will go away. Or, before your SD card loads, messages will go straight to the stock messaging app. Just view all your threads in there, click each one, and the unknown will go away.

I just got my Infuse on thursday and installed the Refuse mod on Friday, then over the weekend I installed Handcent SMS to replace the default messaging app.
It works great and all, except it doesn't save it's settings. Sometimes it will keep the last settings it had, but other times it just randomly decides it wants to pretend like I've never ran it and delete all of it's settings and shows me the release notes when I open it.
Is there anyway to get this to stop?
It happend to me too. If its a big deal to you I use infused and it dosnt do it.
Sent with my Infused Infuse using XDA Premium App
Well I guess I'll switch to Infused then. I like how you can theme Handcent and customize it a lot. I tried chompSMS since I heard it was more or less the same, but I don't like how they have ads and would rather donate money to a dev making a new ROM here than someone making an SMS app.
Is it possible to back up all of my apps/data for them and then restore them when I get Infused running? I don't really want to have to go through and download all of my apps again.
You can use TB.

Awesome, thanks for your help!
I was having the same issue with Handcent and I'm using Infused 1.2.1. I got tired of dealing with having to reset all my setting and specifically the notification sound. I moved Handcent and all its plug ins onto the phone and it didn't fix the issue. Now I'm using SMS Go Pro and I haven't had any issues. It's just as customizable as Handcent IMO.

Hmmm, interesting. I don't know how you have yours setup but it seems like you have it much like I had mine. Every time I would reboot, the icon would disappear from the dock. It also would arbitrarily change the notification sound to this weird long ass notification tone that I could not stand. I like Postbox not whatever the one it was selecting. I reflashed the ROM and wiped cache and it still did the same thing. No issues with SMS Go pro (for now) so I'm sticking with it.
I know this is a little old, but I was having issues with Handcent resetting all the time...here's how I fixed it. You have to be rooted...after you uninstall the app, go to the dbdata folder, then database. find the folder that is com.handcent, etc. Delete it, then reinstall the app. My bet would be everyone that's not having issues have only installed it once, and never uninstalled it.
I don't know about the settings on handcent but I use go SMS and it works awesome and is very customizable. Hope it helps.

I am rooted and using PeanutButta Jelly Time kernel with voodoo lag fix. I put this on in mid-June. It has worked fine since then. However, today I just have been getting tons of Force Closes associated with SMS and messaging apps. I had Go SMS Pro. I uninstalled that. However, I still get Force Closed when I go into the regular messaging app. I am getting some Force Close on google services framework as well.
Any idea what I can do to correct this?

I ended up just doing wipe/data factory reset from CWM. That seemed to fix most issues.
1.) Every time im in the middle of texting with someone in the stock messaging app my keyboard just starts to freeze and lag out like crazy. I thought I fixed this problem but turning off power saving mode but it only helped a little bit
2.) This is probably a well known issue with the phone but every time I get a text message my screen turns on! Its really annoying and im not sure if there is a fix for this yet but if there is please help!
3.) When I set custom vibrations for my phone every time I get a text message it still just ends up as the basic call vibration. I tried using all of the other vibrations in the phone but it always just goes back to the basic vibration when I get a text message but when I get a phone call thats when it uses the custom vibrate tone
Im not sure if anyone could help with these issues but if so please leave feed back! I really hope im not the only person with these problems so if there is a patch that these things get fixed! I love this phone and everything but these glitches are starting to get annoying.
You should try different rom... I hope it can solvr ur problem...

Well thats the thing im 100% stock right now. Im not rooted or anything. If I root will that fix all my problems?
SMS Popup
For the text message issue, just use SMS Popup from the play store (its way better than the stock anyway) then turn off the notifications in the settings of the stock sms and then your screen won't turn on, Hopefully that will help you. Also, you can set custom ringtones for contacts... possibly custom vibrations.
Another options is to install GoSMS from the market, think it has options for all your problems.

well you can try the gosms app from play store... rooting and trying a stock rom like nosympathy's rooted stock can help tons, swiftkey is your best frind when it comes to typing, and custom roms like synergy or aosp roms are crazy fast (i know as i have flashed all of the roms from verizon's development forum so far,), and suggest adfree if you want to use gosms, or use synergy's 1.1 or 1.2 rom. they are lag free

Well, if you reset/wipe everything, even though you aren't rooted there are ways to get all your apps back automatically - I believe when you set up your phone it even asks if you would like to "Restore your settings" when you sign into your Google account. However... I don't really recommend it. Since you're having trouble right now, I think it would be a great idea to just WIPE it clean, and have a fresh start. See if your phone works great as it is (cause it could always be some app causing problems too..)
Installing apps is really easy - all you have to do is go to http://play.google.com (once you sign into the play store and accept the terms on your phone) and go to "My Apps", and it'll show you everything you have downloaded in the past. Anything you want to install, you can just click "INSTALL" on your computer and it'll automatically send it to your phone!!
When you have a large amount of apps to install, I find this way far easier than searching for each one on your phone

Your phone has a problem, since none of these are issues on mine. You probably want to wipe and start over. Or you could root your phone, install Titanium backup, and use that to backup all of your apps. Then wipe, reinstall TB, and reinstall the apps. I'm running the Synergy ROM and it's awesome.
