Hi quick question about the kernel choices in Android Revolution HD 6.6.1
It gives you the choice to choose between 3 kernels.
The first is the stock kernel, but my question is about the custom kernels:
Faux123 & Sebastian(something) -
Whats the difference?
Any one which is better?
Any advantage or disadvantages to either?
each has their own advantages / disadvantages. But its up to you to try them and see which one suits YOU !
I have always used sebastians Kernel, I found it gave great stability and good battery
Im currently using FAUX now, and i find it gives excellent performance...
There is no better / worse kernel, nor is there a better / worse ROM or anything else for that matter.
Its all down to the user and what they want from it, So try both, Test them for a few days and see which you prefer...
Both kernels are fantastic, with regular improvements and updates too !

i think faux kernel is best. coz im using it now. it save my batter life

Thanks for the responses!!!
Yeah I'm using the Faux kernel at the moment and have definitely noticed an improvement on performance when compared to the stock kernel.
Only thing I haven't got to check is battery life, if that holds up well then I'll be very happy. Probably give it a try for a week then try the Sebastian one for a week then decide.
Overall though really happy with the performance boost on the Faux kernel.. just hope it not a placibo effect.
Can I really decide between kernels while flashing Rom? Or do I have to download and flash it mzself?

Most custom ROMS will let you choose a kernel or stay with stock. I rather flash kernels on my own after flashing the Rom with stock.

I look at the DHD forums and see different roms that aren't in the inspire section. Now I'm running stock radio and currently running coredroid 3.1, would flashing a Rom like CM7 from DHD forums without issue? Or maybe even the villian (believe that is its name) without issue?

As far as I am aware, you cab flash anything that doesn't use a custom kernel, as dhd kernels kill sound on inspire. But there is a kernel for CWM7 floating here on inspire board

You can use most of the newer Desire HD kernels as the sound is enabled now because of HTC's updates. I made a kernel that overclocks CM7 to 1.8ghz if you wanna give it a go.
Yes indeed I will def use your kernel for CW7 THANKS . But I saw the Villain Rom over there, the incredible S port I believe. Would I flash the Rom but keep the lee or buzz kernel aside and flash on top of the Rom to assure audio and video configurations to still be in tact?

Hi,
The thing is to flash mods using the same base as your ROM.
If you check my sig , I have battery mods for ARHD base 2.3.4 and 2.3.5
Check with your ROM'S dev,to see which base you are using, and then flash the appropriate mod.
ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU INSTALL A MOD
For beats I installed THIS MOD ,because I am on base 2.3.5 using Sense 3.5
Or you could install ARDH 3.6.3 XE which contains beats anyway.

You can install anything you want, you just have to know what it is you want to do. Lets say you want to have beats audio (using the previous posters example). You know you have a stock ROM, version 2.3.4 most likely, so just find a beats audio only mod for 2.3.4 bases running Sense 3.0.
Or, as the previous poser says, you can install a whole ROM that already includes it. ARHD basically simulates a Sensation XE by removing the under-clocking on the CPU thats there stock bringing it up to 1.5 Ghz, adding beats audio, and overall just smoothing out the ROM. It looks the same as the stock ROM, it just works better.
The best thing to do is just make a backup of how it is now through recovery, then try stuff out and see what you like. You can always restore your backup and it will be right back to how it was before you did anything.
~T.J.
EDIT: Saw you came from ARHD. Sorry to hear about the bad luck. But yes, you can install mods without a full ROM.

Yeah I did tried 3 of the most recent arhd Rom, it is smooth and fast but has too many glitches on my phone. I tried installing the recommended radio it does fixed my signal issue, but after 3 days of using my phone keeps goin on a black screen when somebody calls me or text me so I decided to revert to stock

Interesting. Did you try turning the CPU back down to 1.2 GHz? I have ran 3.6.1 and only had one reboot before I switched to the beta kernel, never had any issues with 3.6.2 which came with the same kernel I upgraded to with 3.6.1, but I switched to bricked 0.91 kernel and its even better. Tried 3.6.3 and had a bunch of FC problems and issues so I restored back to 3.6.2.
Basically they all have worked well for me, but I've read of some people needing to stay at 1.2 GHz because of problems you have described.

I haven't tried restoring to 1.2ghz , I just restored my phone back to stock I got tired of trying all the versions and seems all of the versions I flashed had issues on my phone, don't get me wrong but I do love the speed and smoothness of arhd its just those fcs, unstable signal and not to mention the black screen issue. But like you said I haven't tried using different kernel I just used the one that came with the Rom and the other faux kernel that one of xda member suggested the beta 10. I even tried the insertcoin 3.3.9 and same issue with signal. I'm on tmobile carrier I don't know if that causes the signal issue with most of the Rom I flashed.

Well, I'm on T-Mobile also and have had no issues, thats strange. Did you flash the recommended radio also? Maybe you need to try a different one if so.
I really like the Bricked kernel, it runs faster/smoother and the battery life is better than the Faux kernels I used - at least what I've seen so far. I run Sense 3.0 so Im limited to Bricked 0.91, but its still plenty good from what I've seen. He is developing more for Sense 3.5 kernels at this point I think.
Anyway, if it was me, I would try one of the ARHD ROMs with a bricked kernel (the kernel can also affect your reception I believe). If you still have issues, try clocking it back to 1.2 Ghz. I too ran IC for a little while, but finally just settled back to ARHD for a few reasons.

Hi,
Have you tried a custom ROM with the original radio?
I know it won't be matched,but sometimes it's a needs must situation.
Use the radio that will give you the BEST signal.
It might just be that it's the only one that will work properly in YOUR area.

Hi,
So,what combination of ROM and radio was the best for signal?
And with your current set-up,do you ALWAYS have bad signals?
Or does it vary from area to area?
I'm running ARHD 3.6.4 right now and while the rom is very speedy, I am getting pretty awful battery life. I'd like to stick with sense 3.0 because imo, it is smoother over all. (the launcher in 3.5 is much smoother, but scrolling through lists, especially in music and bookmarks, feels much smoother in sense 3.0 to me.) Any recommendations? Would I be better off flashing a different kernel and if so, which one?
P.S. I have flashed the 1.2ghz zip for ARHD so I am not overclocked.

Pyramid 3D or LEEDROiD Sensational 3.1.0 will be your best bets.
Both run custom kernels and are optimized for increased battery life. Haven't gotten a chance to OC Sensational yet, but currently on Pyramid 3D and loving it.

Hi,
You could just change the kernel.
A lot of people speak highly about a combination of ARHD 3.6.x and show-p1984's bricked kernel version 0.9.1
You can find it HERE
Make a nandroid backup,
Wipe cache partition and dalvik,
flash the kernel and reboot.

I have tried a few roms. Arhd 3.6.x, bulletproof, insert coin. I'm now on arhd 4.1.3 and the battery is good. Consistently getting 24-30 hours with light / moderate use. I think 3.6.x is faster though.

After hopping around a lot, I find myself gravitating towards CdTDroid's ROMs. SENSEaY (for 3.5) and P3D (for 3.0). Fast, stable, and just the right amount of customizations... oh, and I also use Rom Cleaner to streamline it a bit.

I'm switching from ICS to the latest MIUI rom that was just released.
Since the kernel is clocked at 1.7 I need to use a different one.
So whats the best one for it? Im aiming for battery life and I dont need more than 1.2 or 1.5.
Just download system tuner or setCPU from the market and adjust the clock speeds. The trinity kernel works very well with miui and the sensation.

Hi there. I use pyd-x stable 3 kernel on my viper Rom . I really love it. The Rom has tons of customization and that particular kernel has a system tuner type of mod that goes with it and you can flush your system on terminal emulator if it's getting lag. This kernel is very fast and I've got great battery life .
I'm very happy with my set up. Play around with different kernels and see what suits you best. Best wishes !

The ROM is wonderful except, if you set something in the settings wrong it goes into a reset loop. I have no idea which setting it is as you have to reinstall the ROM including a full wipe to make the restart loop go away. I have now given up on the ROM until someone can tell me it stops restarting
I'm currently on Elegencia's ROM but I've heard nothing but good comments about Viper's ROM so I'm use it for a while
Been using this ROM for about a month now with latest Faux kernel. Battery life awesome, love all the tweaks, running smooth as a babies butt!
Had no reboots, very stable. Only minor gripe is that recently don't always get message notifications for Handscent. Probly something on phone not the ROM though.
Defo recommend!
