Dalvik VM heapsize - Motorola Atrix 2

What value is everybody running?
Sent via Tapatalk with VictoryRom_v1.1

100mb

Are low values supposed to speed up the system? I'm seeing conflicting reports all over the web.
Sent via Tapatalk with VictoryRom_v1.1

Im not sure, but i know alot of people i believe prefer 85mb and say it runs good. I just decided to try 100mb a few months ago and have been running it ever since.

Hmm...thanks. I'm running it at 42m. The keyboard is not always a fluid as I'd like. It sometimes hesitates after I type a character. I'm wondering if changing the value would help.
Sent via Tapatalk with VictoryRom_v1.1

I've been running at 64m and it runs great. If you use ROM Toolbox it is easy to change it an you can find which setting works best with your setup. I don't think you can brick your phone playing with the heap size.

Thanks. That's just what I needed to hear. I've changed it to 64m. We'll see how it goes. My keyboard hesitated twice during this post so it didn't fix that. (3x now). It sticks after a letter. Like freezes before the letter is displayed. (4x). Hopefully I notice an improvement in the overall responsiveness. (6x by the end of this post)

That sounds like a touch issue to be honest, ive never had an issue with my stock keyboard at all....smooth as butter
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5

So I just did a test in my favorite editor to see if the stock keyboard has the same issue. To my surprise the stock keyboard works just fine. In fact BOTH keyboards worked flawlessly. Its only when I use tapatalk that the issue occurs (in both keyboards). :banghead:

Interesting point. I'm not sure I'm seeing a difference. The only reason I brought this topic up is because I was in ROM Toolbox and I accidentally changed the value. If I'm not mistaken it was set to zero to begin with. Probably a build tweak from Victory ROM? Isn't the android default 32m?
Sent via Tapatalk with VictoryRom_v1.1

64m runs fine for me :/

Um...what exactly is this heap thing? I'm fairly familiar with everything else, but I'd like to know what it actually does...?

The way I understand it is Dalvik is the software that runs the apps and the heap is the amount of RAM allocated to that process. Somebody please correct me if that's not right.

The reason I started this thread was to start a discussion about Dalvik cache sizes in general and also to see if adjustment would fix my hesitating keyboard (only seems to happen in Tapatalk app). I'm using Gingerbread keyboard from the Play Store. I just dumped Tapatalk in favor of XDA's version of the app and guess what? No more hesitation. Has anybody else experienced this? I guess it doesn't much matter now that Tapatalk 2 is almost out of beta. BTW that failed to launch for me altogether. Sorry about all the side bar talk. Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Dalvik VM Heap Size. How big is yours? lol

Default for the A2 is 42m.
Straight from build.prop:
Code:
This is a high density device with more memory, so larger vm heaps for it.
Performance increases are definitely gained by larger heap sizes, but if you make it too big the A2 will run out of memory and start swapping. Here's a good brief read: http://droidgram.com/forum/8-Android-Dalvik-VM-Heap-Size
If anyone wants to experiment with changing the heapsize and taking linpack/antutu benchmarks, feel free .

So what do you run yours at cogeary?

I am currently using Thumb keyboard without any issues. The dev are even adding support for this phone (so I have read in another forum).
I'm currently using tablet version and only think with (sometimes) wrong size are suggestions, on short words only since the font size decreases on longer words.

I am aware that I can choose different layout but as I get used to it I find it more easier to use. My passwords consists of various numbers and letters and I find it easier to type as the numeric keys are present on the same screen
On Swiftkey X I decreased the long press to 250ms from 500ms so I just have to hold the letter for a split second to get a number. It's pretty fast.

Working terrific so far. Looks absolutely identical to regular miui. Except keyboard which is a tiny bit smaller I believe. Also noticibly faster in general. I do recommend it from my experience so far.
been running ICS build since it's availability and everything has been smooth and stable. it "feels" faster than any other MIUI build i've used, but could just be placebo effect unless ICS' hardware acceleration is really working.
i even had wifi calling working a couple times, but this has not been consistent. sometimes it worked and other times i had the "invalid sim" error.
can't really comment on battery life as i'm still re-calibrating.
the only issue i've run into is a Market FC only when i try to swipe through the screenshots for apps...weird.
other than the issue listed above, this rom has been great and error free for me.
tried it out.... hated the Ui would much prefer weapon x ui with ics improvements and toggles going back to weaponx 2.8.
Been using the ICS build. No crazy real world speeds were felt by me. Only going to keep running this build if the battery life is better than the regular one.
Missing extended power menu. Might be missing gps.config fix & APN fix files in this ICS build.
Looks & feels the same as any other MIUI Whitehawkx has ported over.
Installed just now...works great and benchmarks return 2700+. Also, I was having terrible problems with Youtube before with any other MIUI version (very, very, very, verrrrrry slow loading). Now Youtube is faster to load than when it was with Gingerbread.
THANK YOU Whitehawkx!

Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I had that happen but only because miui considered it a favorite app and wanted you to submit a rating.
That's the only thing I found impressive was the media player, galnet player. I'd love to see it in cm7 or in a market.
Playing with miui on my G2 just to get a feel for it. Would have moved it to g2x but I need T-Mobile wifi to work

These ICS framework MIUI ROMs are a disgrace to the name of MIUI, its not official MIUI ICS so really, why bother making such crap kangs?

Touch response lag on ucld2 and attaching screen shots.

On the 2nd ice leak I am experiencing touch screen response lag which is really annoying. When I slide over the screen I have to slide about a 1/4 inch in order to get the response. Has anyone else experienced this? I was thinking about doing a factory reset but I wanted to see if there is any other easy way since I have already installed all the apps. I don't prefer to go back to 1st leak since I have good battery life with the 2nd one. I am also hesitant to try any custom roms currently.
Also, I can't upload any screenshots to the posts through xda app. It says that the JPEG has incorrect file extension. Any advice?

I don't think this is prevalent problem, many users have reported to opposite. Maybe a small oversight on your part?
To op, when first moving to ics, Ive always thought an Odin to stock first was best. Maybe dark side, Odin stock, dark side and then flash modem, and thrn a ucld2 based rom? That may work to alleviate any problems
If anything.... My responsiveness is a little too good. Your problem sounds like a bad flash.

I have the Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy s2 i9100 its in the ICS. All the ICS rom's I tried all have that issue(scrolling lag) specially on scrolling widgets
I was able to get the touch response back. Here is what I did
1. Backup call log, contacts, message log, settings, preferences and network settings on kies
2. Factory reset
3. No lag in touch response.
4. Restored everything back from step 1 and found lag in response
5. Factory reset again.
6. Only restored everything back from step 1 except preferences and settings
7. No lag in touch response anymore.
Seems like restoring settings and preferences was bugging up something. However, one thing noticed in ics is the app drawer has better touch response compared to the home screens.
I am currently using Nova launcher and working great.

[Q]Disable Raindrop Protection?

I fix this problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467696
IIRC it's a "feature" that's enabled on the touchscreen controller itself, nothing we can enable or disable through easy software means...
At least the time has been slightly increased from the 20seconds of the Atrix 1. I count 30 seconds for the Atrix 2.
Looks like someone figured out how:

Well, shoot, I guess I'll eat my words... Maybe I just don't understand enough about this phone yet, but that zip only installs a touchpad.cfg file in the /system/etc/touchpad/22 folder.. which we do not have (at least I don't... does SonyaV4 have that file?).. And, if you read through that thread, people have just replaced their own .cfg files through root explorer instead of flashing the zip. So, again.. I don't get it. (did you do the same test before flashing that zip? - just checking, does the A2 even have the raindrop protection? And, why is this even a feature, who uses their phones in the rain anyway??)

Also, yes, they are included in most all of the available roms, as well as some additional mods have been posted within the rom threads (i know i put some together for Victory rom, cause it wasn't showing 1% increments and that dev posted his rom and left the country or civilization...).
Note that they are only for deodexed roms at this point (due to the services.jar edits required)

Well I don't know what you guys did, but I tested that zip file as well, using Dotty and Mutitouch Vis Test before and after, and it did nothing for me. Still bugs out and doesn't register both fingers after 30 seconds or so until I tap a bunch of times, then it comes back to normal, then bugs out again in another 30 seconds. I double checked, and it definitely installed the new config file in /system/etc.. but no change. I'm deleting the new folders...
EDIT: Also, it definitely doesn't register 5 fingers, as the mod apparently is also supposed to do.. and read this from the mod developer (it's kinda what i said earlier):http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22076100&postcount=49

I was just bout to say the same....... I'm sure with some tweaking, I can reduce this lag. Just have to wait and see. My OG is asleep on the Welcome Screen for the night, because that is how I usually do to let it ALL settle in. Although, I flashed the NoA2SD version straight up, so I don't know if that will make a difference. Either way, it is still PAC-man 4.2.2 on the OG. Can't say it hasn't been done.
