External sd card no longer visible - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

I need assistance to restore the external sd card on my Galaxy Tab plus. For some reason My Files began crashing on start-up. I then discovered that the extStorage link was no longer available in any explorer. When I open the settings menu and click Storage it force closes as well. I tried a Factory reset to no avail. I located a new Myfiles.apk on line, but it wont install.
Please, if anyone has any ideas short of flashing the rom, let me know.

Now I'm kind of a noob in regards to tablets, but if it was me, I would turn off the tablet completely and then remove the microSD card. I would then turn on the tablet and make it is functioning properly. If so and if I had one, I would plop in a different microSD card and see what that does.
If that is all working, then suspicion falls on the original microSD card. I would then put the microSD card in a SD or USB adapter and insert that into, again if you have one, a laptop or desktop computer. If it does, see if you can copy the files over to the computer and then use the computer to refomat the card to "Fat 32".
I would then take the card out and plop it back into the tablet and if everything is working.
If so, dismount it from the tablet, insert it back into the computer, copy your files over and then plop it back into the tablet and see if it now reads your files properly.
This is kinda like a crime scene, you need to do small discrete tests to see where the problem lies. Is the culprit your tablet or the tablet card port or the microSD card or a corrupt file on the card or was it Colonel Mustard with a knife in the parlour closet...
G.B.
And remember, talking dogs are liars.

Been there, done that.
Ja, I have tried that approach. It seems this criminal is a tad more sinister. I think my only option now is to flash the stock rom. I was hoping to do that when ICS came out though.
Thanks for the help!

WTF...SD card Damaged, but IS AVAILABLE via pc

Odd issue....Running Smoked Glass and everythings been smooth as hell. then out of no where my SD card isn't available. YES, I have rebooted, popped out and in, same with battery. All no help. I get the "SD card is Damaged" and obviously not usable.
HOWEVER!!!
When tethered to pc and mounted...all the SD cards data is there on my pc. Unmount and the card is suddenly "damaged" again....so WTF?????
Yes things are backed up, but I want to figure this out to insure it doesn't happen again and to aid others.
Any clues?
Thanks........
Dan
This happened to me a couple of days back. It happens when your phone is tethered to the PC and the SD card is mounted and then you just unplug the phone while the PC still tries to write something to the SD card.
Try to put the card into the card reader, go to My computer->right click on the SD's drive->Properties->Tools->Error-checking->Check now, and let the program check for errors. I haven't tried this, so it might not work.
If it doesn't work, then do what I did: make a backup of everything, format the card, error-check it again, and copy everything back (this is also a great opportunity for a little "spring cleaning" of the SD card ).
And remember to always use the "Safely remove" feature on your PC.
There is also a thing on your phone in which you can have it unmount the SD card. Always do that when you're taking your phone off. I know it seems tedious, but thats why you're not supposed to just unplug your computer or yank a flash drive out.
try to use this formatter ,hope it help .

Phone and SD Card showing up Separately

I am having a problem finding thins in "Files" and "Astro" on Tmo GS2. This is a general ? that could happen to me or anyone on any phone, I assume, so I put here. I hope its ok
I just upgraded to a 32gb sd card class 4. I was told it was good. Its a
Sandisk. I was going for a class 10, but people said it was not only not necessary, but it would slow down occasionally ... but be fabulous with games and video
regardless of that, i then looked for a class 6 Only found no names and someone said its better to have a Sandisk at a lower class than one class higher from a no name'
Well I don't know if that has to do with my problem. I can't find things. I search, nothing. I use Astro, now this is weird. Nothing. I plug into the computer, it is listing the phone as TWO separate drives. THis has never happened to me in the past and never heard it mentioned
I am sure it is nothing wrong, but a settingn somewhere and I can get all the files combined
also, I am assuming all of those file explorers on the phone cannot look into the hard drive of the phone? Is that correct, no other excuse? And this other "drive" I am speaking of, one can only assume it is the hard drive
Well in any case, if anyone could straighten me out, help me, etc.. I'd be most grateful
happy Halloween All
Eric
I have the same problem on my eeepad transformer
I bought a 32 GB microSD card from Trascendent. When I nstall apps that are supposed to be installed on the external SD card it does not do that. It goes to the internal SD card. When I sync it with my PC it shows both devices. The SD card is completely empty except for a folder that reads LostDir. How can I get the external SD working?
Any pros or mods, please correct me if needed.
The GS2 does it differently keeping them separately
You can choose on your phone which apps to store on phone or sd card. You can go to settings/apps/ and select move to sd card etc.
some, however will not go there no matter whatt
when you go to usb mode on the puter, you will see two drives show up
One is SD CARD - this is actually your PHONE
The OTHER is labeled EXT. SD CARD (for external) - This is the actual inserted sd card
On the SD Card, you will see in its contents in the computer window the external sd folder within the sd card
...even tho, on the far left (windows 7 and others) you will see the two drives listed separately
That is the best I can do. I understand it enough that it works. I may even understand it better than that but just not able to explain it
Enjoy

[Q] Cannot delete or add to SD card

A few days ago, I tried taking some pictures with my Droid Charge and the pics would not save. I tried in the stock camera app and in CameraZoom EX. CameraZoom gave me an error message "failed to save photo to SD car (error code=2). I figured I was out of space.
My Titanium Backup scheduled backup did not run the next day. So, I assumed I was out of space.
I connected the phone to my PC and deleted some pics and music. WHen I was in WIndows explorer, it said I had about 2 GB free after doing all of this.
When playing music today, I noticed files that I had deleted before still present on the phone. I thought this was weird. I went back and checked and all the stuff I thought I deleted was still there.
I searched on the CameraZoom EX error code 2. It directed to remove and reinsert the card and reboot. I tried that. I have tried unmounting and then mounting with no success either.
My phone seems to be working fine, but I cannot delete or add anything to the microSD card (the original that came with the phone). It does not matter if I use my WIndows 7 laptop, desktop, or various file managers on the phone itself.
ANy idea what is going on?
To me, it sounds like the SD card is going bad. Not a common occurrence but it can happen. You're lucky you can still read from it... I would suggest getting a new SD card (Verizon might even give you a new one free) and copying your data to it before sectors start going bad. By the way, how did you manage to full up 32 gb?
Or I could be blowing this out of proportion and it's just a matter of write protection on the card.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Another option is to copy everything off the SD card, format it, and try to write everything back. Sometimes a format can joggle a bugged card.
It is mostly music that I have on there. I am not sure how write protection would have gotten on the microSD card or how I would remove it. It does not have a physical togge like an SD card does.
I think I may have to try re-formatting. Ugh.

Corrupted SD card. Call VZW and be nice on the phone, explain the situation, hopefully they send you a new one.
Hmmm, this is interesting. I cannot even format the microSD card. I tried to do it through Windows Explorer. It looked like it worked. I then tried to copy files back on and it choked halfway through on a movie, I think.
Anyway, what was more interesting is that when I looked at the drive again, everything was back where it originally was. So, the re-formatting must not have actually worked.
I then tried to erase the SD through the options in Android. I unmounted. I then selected Erase SD card. After rebooting (to just be safe), the SD card still is untouched.
THis microSD card has become an impenetrable force. More realistically, it must have write-protection enabled somehow as that is the only thing I can think of.
The question is how do I find out if write protection is enabled and how to disable it? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] microSD

Hello, I had Transformer about a year now. I have installed CyanogenMod 10 (JB 4.1) but the problem i have as my microSD card that I just bought will not get recognised in Transformer. I have "Samsung 32gb Class 10". It works fine if I put it thought the adaptor to the docking station and get recognised straight away. I tryed to format it to FAT32 and then insert it in the microSD slot but still same, it just does not wont to know it. I Kingston 16gb Class 2 and its absolutely the same problem. Can it be that the microSD slot it knacked since I've bought it? Please help someone.
P.S Mount SD card comes up in the Settings > Storage but after i press it in couple of minutes table says "Unfortunately, Setting has stopped"

I think that you must be right. Your sd card slot must have problem.
But before any coclusion you have to see some things. What rom do you have? Did you try it with a different clean install (after making a nandroid backup for not loosing everything)?
I have kingston 16gb class 4 and I have no problem. (FAT32)
Finally I couldn't be surprised if sd card slot is mulfumctioning from beginning cause mine has problem with internal mic from beginning.
i am on CyanogenMod 10

#1 Ensure that the contacts for the SD card are clean.
#2 Give the slot a quick blow out with some compressed air or such. NO VACUUM CLEANERS.
#3 After doing the above steps, put in the card, then power down. wait about 3 minutes, and power it back up into normal boot. These should get the device to see it and accept it. Other wise you may have gone and goofed up the locking mechanism inside that is not allowing the contacts to seat correctly. This can be resolved by a tear down and rebuild with a good service tech.

Here's a nice YT link to a tear down that should help you along with tearing it down. It's rather simple to do.

Right, Scratch all that about disassembling it. I restored to Stock ROM.
I go to Settings > Storage and there is:
SD CARD
Mount external storage device
I press on it and its saying "Preparing external device..." but Setting freezes, after i try to copy anything on the microSD card it says "Insufficient storage". So i dont know what to do.

Plug it into the computer and see what files are there. May just need to clear out some things. BUT I am beginning to be more inclined to say that there is an issue within the card itself. If the tab can see it it should be able to mount it. If it is saying that there is not enough space, either format it via the computer and re try or take it back and tell them that it is a bad card.

NTFS won't work. I'm sure you are aware of that. Format it from your phone, THEN put it back in the tablet. If it is still the case, then you have ruled out the card being the issue, and are back to that it could be dust / dirt / debris in the port, OR that you have a faulty port.
I revert to the stock Asus ICS ROM from there website. Reformated microSD card to FAT32 with Long formating. Wiped all data from Tablet. Insertet a card and it might show straight away or not show at all or after pressing Mount External Storage, Setting will freeze and message with Wait or Close will pop up. If the microSD mounted and the SD card sigh apper in the bottom of the screen near clock i can get in to the card and creat folders, but if i try to copy something in it, it says Insuffician Storage. So i dont think it something with the card or a port, because it can detect the card accasionly and get in to it. So is there any way to do something with the main software part, not the android it self with something that android installed to or there is nothing that android get installed to? Thank you

Obnoxious Problem with SDXC Card - Card on Computer Works Fine, Phone Wants to Format

Card is a Sandisk 128GB Ultra MicroSDXC A1 card.
Card is formatted exFAT.
Card can be mounted, opened, and read/write with no problems via my laptop when plugged directly (SD slot).
Android (LG G5, LineageOS 15.1) says card is corrupt, is trying to make me format. Card initially set up as "Portable Storage".
Took FOREVER to move music onto this card, as artists had to be moved one at a time or transfers would fail, so I'm trying to avoid formatting.
I've tried rebooting the phone, repairing the file system using TWRP Wipe command (fails with error code 1), and mounting with a clean eject via Windows 10 on my laptop using the SD card slot. Nothing has made an impact, stupid phone still won't allow me to use the card.
If anyone has any ideas why this is happening, or how I could potentially fix this without having to wipe the card, I would appreciate it. This thing has been a PITA since I got it, I thought it would be awesome having such expandable storage on my phone (I'm a weirdo who doesn't use streaming services) but I've had nothing but problems so far. I have to be careful with how I transfer files onto the card or the transfer will take an (appropriately) long time, act like it works, but then the file just won't be there. Now I've finally gotten the card loaded up, and after a routine phone reboot a few days ago, the Android OS is trying to say it's corrupt; This is also making me worry that this will continue being an issue in the future.
Running "chkdsk E: /r" on my laptop is revealing a couple minor corruptions inside the directory, and volume bitmap. It's hanging on verification/completing now.
Is it possible that I have a bad SD card? This thing has seriously done nothing but suck since I've been trying to use it.
Edit: Unless someone tells me otherwise, I'm pretty sure this is a bogus/defective SD card. I simply cannot believe that flash memory would perform this badly. I'm going to return this card (bit of a PITA since I ordered it online) and buy another one locally.
