Hi, I was rooted s-off etc before but unrooted to get OTA ICS. How do I root again with ICS, is it just the same process as before?
Thanks
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using XDA
Actually there is no way to root sensation xe with ics
Since you are S-OFF you may want try may method but more experienced user wouldn't recommend hTCDEV Unlock method, but I think that the only way to get the root back right now.
If it show LOCKED on bootloader, this is how I root my Sensation XE.
1. Unlocked the phone using htcdev.com account since no other's method seem possible right now. But if you device already unlock you do not have to do this.
Go to hTCDEV register, click "Unlock Bootloader" and follow the instruction.
2. Install custom recovery, since htc recovery won't flash/install flashble zip correctly. For this I use "Android Recovery Manager". Reboot the phone after unlocked process. Connect the phone with usb cable. Open the Android Recovery Manager > Start > ** Download a recovery ** > HTC Sensation > ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0 (Pyramid) > follow the instruction on the software. If stuck when device reboot to flash hboot but not yet flash it because can recognised the FASTBOOT(Android Recovery Manager waiting for FASTBOOT). Take out battery, reconnect usb and boot to FASSBOOT.
3. Flash the supersu, as the Android Recovery Manager finish flash the ClockWorkMod you have to install Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip. If fail retry flash 2-3 times, but I am just done 1 time, before on GB I flash two time because fail at 1st time. And now you rooted and reboot your phone.
Try at your own risk.
Summary :
Download Android Recovery Manager and Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip, place the Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip on sdcard. Unlock the phone on htcdev.com, install custom recovery with Android Recovery Manager and flash the supersuser.
* use Superuser version 3.0.7 because the lower version won't support ICS. Use link given and download the right version.
I am using this method on Sensation XE, so try at your own risk. I will not responsible to anything happen. And please do make sure you backup your device first.

# Just hit the thanks button so I and other's will know this method also work for you ;p
be carefull with htcdev. unlocking bootloader using this site you lost warranty privileges
You are s-off, get back to stock GB then root it properly with the Revolutionary tool before the OTA ICS upgrade.
Use an early RUU, avoid any containing the 1.18 hboot.
Not being able to get OTA update when rooted is a bunch of huey.
All you need is to have stock recovery and the correct CID.
Root it while on GB.
Flash stock recovery.
Get the OTA update, flash custom recovery
Flash the su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip
Still rooted and su-access
Hi SanityPreservation/All,
Forgive me if you think is is the wrong place to post, but I have a rooted One X as well as a rooted Sensation XE, and have a question regarding the XE.
Could I use the same version of CWM and SuperSU on the XE that I use on the One X? I'm currently on CWM v5.8.2.7 and SuperSU v0.87 for the One X.
Of course, I would only apply ROMs and updates that are specific to the XE, but I was just wondering if it's possible to keep one set of 'rooting files' instead of two.
Thanx. This help me. But i flashback to ginger. Much stable for me.

Can anyone please tell me how to install a custom ROM onto my Desire S with the bootloader unlocked via HTC Dev and S-ON?
My guess is that you install CWMR and flash it via that. But you need root access to do that, I thought unlocking the bootloader was meant to eliminate this.
Also, I've been reading that people are having issues installing ROMs this way, they are experiencing a hang at the HTC logo on boot.
Any information will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

After you flash the custom ROM using CWM, you then have to extract the boot.img file from the ROM.zip file and manually flash it in FASTBOOT mode. That is the nature of the unlocked bootloader. The boot partition is not mounted R/W in recovery mode, it is only mounted R/W when you are in bootloader FASTBOOT mode.
Ok, from reading yours and various other posts in the forum, I need to do the following to install a custom ROM with an unlocked bootloader and S-ON:
1. Unlock bootloader via HTC's website
2. Root phone (with gingerbreak apk?)
3. Install CWM via ROM manager
4. Backup existing ROM with CWM and backup files with titanium
5. Install ROM via CWM (wipe data, wipe cache, install ROM)
6. Flash boot.img (HBOOT, fastboot, and flash image)
7.Reboot into cyanogenmod
If I have anything wrong, please let me know. Thanks.

Step 2 and 3 are not necessary. After you Unlock the bootloader, you could then simply flash ClockworkMod in FASTBOOT mode.
1. Unlock bootloader.
2. Flash CWM image in FASTBOOT mode.
3. Backup existing ROM with CWM.
etc.
Successfully installed latest nightly r2 yesterday night :O
All is fine, 3D performance is smoothly and fine...
Thanks for yours posts
I would also like to thank you tpbklake, haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it'll work!
I will be getting a new unbranded Desire S in a couple of days,
In case it will be running HBOOT 2.00.0002 with S-ON will I be still able to flash a custom rom on the device? AKAIK S-ON only protects the radio from being modified.
sorry, I'm new to this
edit: okay i read its not possible to flash a custom rom, but then what can i do when I rooted and flashed a custom recovery?

Either isn't possible without s-off, look at the index thread, it's all there.
Swyped from my desire s running damn sweet ice cream
I'm on an Inc2 but since it's basically the same I hope this applies...
I'm in the same position as the OP with the newly unlocked bootloader via HTC.
I flashed cwm through fastboot but now I can't reflash through ROM Manager. I installed both SuperUser and BusyBox but both point the finger at eachother saying the other needs to be installed. What am I missing??

Download the latest su-3.0.x.zip file. Then boot into CWM recovery and install this zip file. This will root the current ROM you have installed and then ROM Manager and BusyBox will both be happy.
@korenisko
So you unlocked via HTC dev, flashed custom recovery, wiped all partitions, flashed cyanogenmod, rebooted into fastboot, flashed boot.img via fastboot (fastboot flash boot /pathtobootimg/boot.img, if i recall correctly) and then you were able to boot into cyanogen?
I did exactly these steps (only with 4ext instead of cwm, which shouldn't affect the result) and was stuck with the white bootscreen and no adb logcat output whatsoever.
Currently I am back on a prerooted official RUU (2.3.3), but it still performs really bad and I would like to have cyanogenmod.
Btw: I have a Desire S, hboot 2.00.0002, S-ON, no carrier branding.
Thanks,

The currect way
I Have HTC Desire S with original Rom 2.10.401.8 and HBOOT 2.00.0002 S-On
My goal is to install the Endymon
I read many thread and i understood that the curret way to do this is:
Downgrade My ROM from 2.3.5 ( 2.10.401.8 with HBOOT 2.00.0002) to a ROM 2.3.3 with HBOOT 0.98.00000 (Ex: RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.47.401.4_Radio_20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M_release_199410_signed.exe)
To do this i need to follow the steps from 1 to 7 of this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20535265&postcount=26
Now i need to change HBOOT, Change Recovery and Root the phone. To do this i need to use Revolutionary tool for Windows from http://revolutionary.io/ and follow the istruction.
Now i can download the custom Rom and install using this way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257731
Is It right?
Thanks
Hello, I just want to share my experience on how i managed to S-OFF my phone. My main problem was that I had the latest ruu on 2.10.401.8 and couldnt downgrade. Even though i unlocked the bootloader using the htcdev .bin file I couldnt install the proper recovery (clockwork mod) nor a previous ruu. So here is what I did.
I first unlocked the phone using the htcdev.
Then I followed those pretty 7 steps mentioned on prev post.
and changed my version to a prev one.
I r e l o c k e d my phone using htc supertool and
clicked my 1.47 ruu exe file. That worked and it downgraded my phone.
After that it was a piece of cake to use the revolutionary tool to S-OFF.
Thanks all the xda community for the infos i got and managed to do it....
cheers

Hello xda users.
I want to root my sensation, and therefor i need to get it from android 4.0.3 to 2.3 so it can be possible for me to do.
My HTC
HTC Sensation Z710e
Android 4.0.3
Sense 3.6
Softwarenumber 3.32.401.5
Here is the thing, ive looked around for hours on filefactory.com
put i cant seem to find a file that can put my sensation back to stock rom, so i can start root it. Could any of you be kind and help an noob out here?
Are you S-ON?
Yes S-on ..
you can root your ICS with S-On
Go to htcDev and unloock your phone
flash in a new recovery using "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" using the recovery.img file extracted from PG58IMG.zip
then using cwr flash the updatede SU
Boom! your root
using htcdev unlock whill wipe all your programs and settings AND void your waranty. and u might brick your phone
AND FYI u cant downgrade your Hboot if u are S-ON and the new 1.27 is imposible at this time to get s-off
i will go do that asap ..
Thank you for your quick answers ..
Best regards

THe line "then using cwr flash the updated SU", can you explain further please?
Use CWM (Clockwork Mod) to flash the SU package - if you don't know how to do that then don't even try
i do know what that is, its just my english isnt that well.
i went to htcDev, and unlocked my sensation.
then i got rom manager on android market and tried Flash Cwr but im stuck at here..

ROM Manager needs root to function, and since you don't have root yet you'll have to flash the recovery through fastboot. Then you can install Superuser through your recovery.
But wait, you want to downgrade to Gingerbread? You won't be able to do that since your device will still be S-ON, and Gingerbread won't boot on HBOOT 1.27 (necessarily for ICS).
So the thing Maydayind said about
"you can root your ICS with S-On"
What did he mean with it ?
Update user Dictionary in Android 4.x
Hello,
Anyone who has an app where you can update many words into the user Dictionary?
Thanks.
I went back to stock GB then updated OTA I have locked hboot and 1.27 hboot but still s-off though. And I returned to stock ciD HTC__044 I'm previously supercid. I prefer to stay with my current CID while flashing Roms is it possible?

Can I rather download ROM Manager and install CWM from there? Or do I need to put PG5IMG to Root SD Card then Update from the Bootloader? Or either ways will work?
Currently I'm S-OFF with Locked Bootloader. Do I need to Root First? or CWM then Root?

i'd rather unlock the bootloader and install 4ext recovery through adb/fastboot. 4ext cause i see u are ARHD rom user and flash through fastboot cause it seems easier to me and i never liked ROM Manager app, CWM recovery yes, i use it on my samsung and its great tool as well.
im not sure u can replace stock recovery if bootloader is locked...
edit: u dont have to Super CID no matter what. u can install custom ROM's even with current CID, just pay attention to the version of firmware u install along with the ROM.
Do I need to install the Unlocked 3.32 firmware first? Before I install 4EXT?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e
Don't need the FW if you're already on ICS, just need to flash 4EXT via a PG58IMG.zip and flash the ROM
Just to give another option/way I use following method to Unlocked and Root my Sensation XE since it been S-OFF. Just give some idea.

I have a htc inspire 4g from at & t. I rooted it using ace hack kit and it was great. However,i was trying to root another inspire and made the mistake of rerooting my phone.Well half way threw the process the hack kit stopped and i made the mistake of wiping my data.So it was basically a break till i read up on what to do to bring it back.So i ran a stock att ruu on it and it returned it to a stock rom with 2.3.5 and sense 3.0 . But i lost root,my bootloader says locked and i had eng s-off but now i only have s-off.I lost superuser and cwm.Ive been told i could still reinstall cwm as long as i have s-off but it simply wont do it.i even tryed to run the hack kit again but it wont work.Someone told me to unlock the bootloader and then i will be able to flash cwm.But i am not sure.oh and i tryed to flash cwm but it says superuser was not found.i used rootfinder and it too says my phone is not rooted.could someone please help?I know i messed up too not reading the effen manuel but i.. .am new to all this and i panicked when my phone went black

That's 4ext recovery RC7.
Place it in the root of the sd card, reboot into hboot, follow the instructions. Once done, remove the file from the root or delete it.
If you prefer cwm recovery, you can get it from my signature in glevitan's guide in post#7.
After whichever one you choose, get the rom of your choice and flash normally or flash the supersu.zip which you can find in xda to get root access. (Edit: for some reason now I'm doubting if the supersu.zip will give you root access. Perhaps it's the lack of coffee.)

If you are S-OFF you can run the option to install cwm recovery from the aahk. Once you do that, reboot into recovery and flash a rooted ROM.

If so,restore it .
If not,why not?

Yes, firmware 1.17 will ALWAYS cause reboots on android 4.x. Update your firmware (probably to 3.33)
Look here for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21711154
Follow all instructions to update firmware. You basically put the file on your SD card and boot to bootloader. The bootloader should update the firmware from there.
