Well got another question lol I know I'm a noob to the whole rooting Droid phone's but I changed my rom to euroskank cm9 was wondering why there is a few things in settings I can't get into or there is nothing there, do I have to update the rom, and was wondering about themes for it. Thanks in advance
I was just wondering what the certain things are that you can't get into/select?
When I go into system settings I can't open dock or icon settings but the rom is a great looking rom . There is a few other options that are blank nothing important stuff like themes

If it's greyed out it's not put into the ROM yet

It's just things they haven't gotten around to putting in yet. Nothing to worry about.

I have one more Q about the rom I don't have rom manager paid version, so updating the rom for the features they haven't put in yet will it update thru the settings under about phone or will I have to use Google for that. Is rom manager worth the buy that's the only way I know of or how to change the rom in the g2x

time for you to do some reading, if all your using is ROM manager, then you need to read up on NVFlash. without NVFlashing your phone, if you get stuck in a bootloop, you cant access recovery.
as for changing the ROM, just check these forums from time to time. I wouldnt reccomend automatic updates anyway because most updates in roms introduce new quirks and issues, and if you look at the thread in the forum before flashing it youll get a better idea of what those issues are.
I have flashed a new recovery have had one rom boot loop but have tried a couple like the cm9 but missing a few features I would like to have that are not in it, there so much stuff that's possible trying to find a set up I like lol

Read read read and read some more. A little reading goes a long way! You nvflased your phone right? I don't even use rom manager. I boot into recovery each and every time I want to switch roms. As for updates just go to the Site or check out rootzwiki. That is where my buddy dj posts the roms. Here is euroskank Site http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/
Hopefully I don't get heat for this lol

Hello,
i recently installed froyo and i just rooted my phone, but im experiancing a lot of lag after the root. Ive been searching and i have been looking on the forums but what ive gotten so far is to Rom my phone to fix it.. a lot of people keep recommandign different roms saying cog, or vibrant hybrid, etc.. but as i was doing research for people who might have the same problem i saw that someone said something about a lagfix? idk whats a good rom how do i get this lagfix.i dont know if thats in the rom or not but some help would be really nice. any suggestoins or anything, ohh and i NEED to have tethering enabled so if anything takes it away please let me know.
thank you
Most of the popular roms on the development section have setirons kernel which adds a custom clock work mod recovery to your phone. With that kernel you can install a bunch of different lag fixes depending on what you prefer. I am running mikey's doc rom with the ext 4 lagfix. Check out his rom. All you need is clock work recovery since you're already rooted and on froyo.

you said you are running this one correct?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818030
Yeah thats the rom I am running. I even got hsupa to work but you don't have to do that of don't want to. Follow the instructions and you will be set. Remeber to back up all your data with titanium backup and take precaution when following the steps.
Fyi if you brick your phone I am not responsible. (Doubt you will though)
Have fun.

I'm guessing that I'm not the only one with this problem, given the low number of downloads, but in the Download ROM section, there is a heading for MIUI, but when I select it, I just get a blank screen. I'd like to check it out, since it's such an easy way to flash.

They haven't posted there stuff yet. Wait and it will get updated.

Is that the Ceaser edition ?
Just go to the thread and download it from there (on your phone), then flash through cwm, or rom manager if you wish.
I think he's referring to the miui.us builds.
There probably still getting it setup since the section is empty.

I don't understand why some people insist using rom manager to flash roms. All it takes is a quick scan of the first few pages of the general topic to see numerous amounts of posts regarding issues flashing with rom manger. I don't ever recall seeing issues from flashing through cm recovery that wasn't user error. Why not take the path of least resistance? I guess some people like to skate uphill.

Well i use rom manager to download certain roms but not to flash them using rom manager. And i would do the same with the miui.us builds in rom manager.
And in this instance the miui.us builds (which are different from the one in the developer section) aren't listed yet, which is why the OP saw a blank screen after choosing the miui.us section. just a place holder for now you could say

I don't understand why anyone does anything, since no matter what you do, someone will tell you it's wrong.
I don't use ROM Manager to install new ROMs, the data wipes and whatnot never work, but it's a pretty convenient way to install updates. It was just something I noticed wasn't working correctly and wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problem.
I know there are a few of these threads in other device forums but I am posing this question to G2x owners only. What is the best ROM in your opinion for use on the G2x? I just rooted mine and have ClockworkMod 5.0.2.0 running with ROM Manager in place. Now it is time to play. A little background, I am a Red Hat instructor so any ROMs a linux nerd might find useful that play nice on the G2x hardware would be awesome.
I've used weapon g2x for a while and it was pretty good. Switched to cyanogenmod 7.2 and it's also pretty good. I've heard phoenixblood is also amazing.
I recommend you just jump in and try them.

Mileage varies with different people so the best way to pick a ROM is to try them yourself. Make sure you use Titanuim Backup to help keep your apps and data through the changes.
cm nightlies is what I use
i like the bionix theme

I would also suggest not using Rom Manager. It can get you in trouble.
I like pheonix blood a lot. It seems the most stable and full featured.
also, a linux nerd might like Terminal IDE

I never knew why people use RM. Just boot into CWM. RM can **** up at times. I've even seen it brick some people's phones. Also, the G2x uses a modded CWM. So using RM wouldn't be a good idea either way.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I flashed my first ROM with ROM manager, and of course something went wrong, and the G2x wouldn't boot up. At the time, I thought I messed it all up and bricked my phone.
CWM is just a safer option. Even if the flash goes bad, you can still boot into CWM and do a nandroid restore, then it's like nothing happened in the first place. Plus after you've done it once, it's actually a really simple process to do, but now you have an added safety net.
Yupp use cwm much more stable and easier? I used rm and it soft bricked my phone. Managed to fix it tho with nvgflash

The recovery partition on Tegra 2 devices works very differently from the recovery partition on almost all other devices. Rom Manager works around this by simply installing it's own version of CWM on a portion of your system partition (I'm fairly certain that is where it places it, but I could be wrong). The Tegra architecture protects certain partitions from being written to while in anything other than recovery or NVFLASH. This prevents certain blobs from being flashed properly with RM. Also, some options can wipe the partition the RM flashed 'CWM' is on, completely removing your non NVFLASHED recovery. While it is extremely rare that this CWM could do permanent damage to the device, it's just generally safer and more consistent to use the 'real' CWM that you flash to the device with NVFLASH, as it is on the proper partition and separate from any partition that a ROM might attempt to format.
Makes sense. Goodbye Rom Manager. Thanks guys.

Hi, dont know if this has been asked before, but it's there a way to somehow install another kernel (maybe overclocked) instead of the current kernel? And I like the HTC camera present in Sense ROMs instead of the camera in MIUI (my current ROM) or in Cyanogen ROMs. Can I install the HTC camera over my current one?

First of this should be in the Q & A section and the search function isn't broken but here is a kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078049
Just flash it in recovery like a ROM. Be sure to wipe cache and salvia prior to flashing.

Yes just look for compatible kernel for your rom and flash, backup first.
Oh and get ready to get flammed! Wrong section!

The search button is yours and everyones friend. I can say never once did I started a new thread asking a question that's already been asked. Actually the only thread I've ever started was one thanking the devs and the people making guides on how to do anything with this phone. This is my 1st android and I've flashed a few ROMs and kernels in the few months Ive had it cause of the info I found here. And I've never had any problems. All the info you'll ever need(and some you dont) is on XDA. And if after a relentless search for your question leads to nothing, then by all means ask away. Not tryin to hate, just stating facts
Thanks creglenn. I can never seem to find the right section to post in. il look there.

Well, since the thread is already created, can anyone tell me if it's possible to for example to install the music player from MIUI into my Eaglesblood ROM?

Wow! I cant believe I asked this question. Lol. Sorry for the bump, and there is a new question here. Aaaand on second look, that was me... lol. Geez.
ok so here is the deal. my g2x is crashing like the hindenburg several times a day, very frustrating. Tmobile won't help since it's out of warranty. I need all the help i can get when it comes to doing any rooting and/or mods to the phone to get it to stop crashing so much. i have not rooted the phone yet, so advice on the best way for a numbskull like me to do it (superonecilck?). then, advice on what would be a stable mod or rom or whatever you call it to install on the phone so i stop being so frustrated. now mind you, whatever rom/mod etc that is recommended please make sure it is so easy a 2 yr old could do it, because i know me..i WILL screw it up!
any and all advice is welcomed. i am beyond pissed at this phone now and i need to keep from throwing it at the wall. Tmobile won't budge about helping to replace this, only grant me the full upgrade pricing early, so i can give them another $150-300 for a new phone, while new customers come in and get stuff free.
thanks to any and all who respond.

i have not tried that yet....now that I know this I will try though. Anything is better than giving TMobile more $.
I first used this to gain root access:http://www.unlockroot.com/index.html . It's a simple one-click process.
Then I followed this guide from step 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060715. I personally used CyanogenMod 7.2 http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/2856/cm-7.2.0-p999.zip .
Optionally, you can also flash a kernel: Trinity ELP(http://goo.gl/XqDn2) and Faux52 LG (http://faux.androidro.ms/P999-CM-Kernel-052-sv-lg-stable.zip)seem to be the most popular... Instructions to flash the Kernel:
[ Installation procedure: ]
1. reboot to CWM
2. Clear cache
3. Advanced, clear Dalvik
4. install zip from SDcard
5. Reboot
Click to collapse
If one of the kernels gives you issues, try flashing the other one.
I'm pretty noobish to this as well, considering i only flashed my phone a couple days ago, but I used this procedure and it didn't give me any problems at all.
Thanks. We have full detailed guides listed for new owners in the development settings. Some people have issues with faux 52 kernel, if so try using 48 or 50 in place of 52.
Sent via G2x on CM7 b135.1 w/faux 52 kernel
Never had arbitrary crash problems with my unrooted stock g2x on either original Froyo or GB update. If your phone still has problems after the GB update you might have an app problem, or a hardware problem. Update to GB, strip all Apps, and see if it works. If it does, add the apps back in one at a time. If not, toss it.
