Giving back to community: - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello all, i'm sure this should probably be in the general section but the Inspire/DHD community has always been so much more helpful. It really bothers me that i'm not able to give back to this community more & would love nothing more than to learn how tr develop & theme more on my device but I've searched & searched but while there is alot of info available, it's kind of overwhelming in the sense that i have no idea where to start or which guide to use. I'm a pretty fast learner & i know how to fix anything that goes wrong with my devices but i need to learn more. I want to help more. So basically, I'm not asking anyone to explain everything android to me but just to maybe point me in the right direction of where to start & any useful tips because i am very serious about this. Are there any classes i need to take? Thanks so much for taking the time to read this any advice or direction is highly appreciated. Have a great day/night :')

I have no idea about this stuff but good luck!

Evo ROM Development Guide / Tips / Tricks

Hopefully some of the more experienced ROM devs can comment here to bring together information for myself and others like me. After all, this is XDA-Developers.
I'm new to Android but not to Java or ROM development (played with WM for years). I'd like to help but I'm not sure from where I should start here. I've got plenty of dev experience (Linux included) and am good at debugging, so I wouldn't mind donating some time to the cause. Are there any references / articles / tutorials you would recommend for getting started with Android ROMs? Perhaps some personal recommendations as far as the best way to have your primary device double as a development device or any other related tips? I don't mind flashing the phone repeatedly to test ROMs as long as I can get back to a good backup relatively quickly without having to spend hours setting up my phone all over again. I'd love to have a stable version of Froyo for our phones and hate simply waiting / depending on others to do all the work... I'd just like to help the process along, however large or small that help may be. Thank you to anyone who can provide some useful resources, my searches seem to only uncover Android application development guides.
Update:
Decad3nce has been kind enough to compile a list of resources regarding Android ROM development which can be found here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696001
(sorry, can't post direct links yet)
I'm not sure how helpful this is just yet, but there is also a thread by djunio titled "Everything You Need to Cook an EVO ROM" which contains a zip file. Inside the 300 or so MB zip file you can find all of the stock Evo img files. This thread can be found here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686351
I am getting a blog set up for guides just like the one you are requesting. I will post about it when it's ready.
I am trying to figure stuff out myself...but no luck.
I mean I've gotten things to flash now, but they don't work yet

Really looking forward to this. Sorry this post adds no value.
I threw together a quick little resource for anyone interested in ROM development(or just on how to mod stuff).
You can find it HERE
That's a great resource, thank you so much! This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for to help me get started on Android. I played with Windows Mobile for years, then went to the Palm Pre, and now am back to my favorite forum with Android. I can quite honestly say this is by far my favorite phone yet, and I can already tell I'm going to enjoy "playing" with the Android OS much more. Thanks again for the resources, Decad3nce.
chuckhriczko, thank you in advance for the blog as well, I'm sure it will also be a great resource and look forward to it!

Not a problem, feel free to add stuff once you learn something that could be useful for other people. Everyone benefits that way.
Thank you very much. I'm new to Android and I would love to learn how make custom ROMS and remove all the crap from the Stock RUU. I dearly prefer Stock Androids directly from Google though.

New Android ROM website, for newcomers(idea)

Ok guys, this is just a proposal/idea. I have an idea to make a website, that people can easily find their phone, and then it will display all the ROM's available for their device. As well as show them the ROM's it should also be able to display images that would help people that aren't technically experienced to install and enjoy the ROM's that we do everyday, with ease. The only problem ( and of course people are wondering, why tell us just DO IT) is i have limited X-HTML experience and Javascript experience. I would need the help of all the great developers here to promote their ROM (giving helpful information), and someone(s) to help develop the website. Basically i want to be able to easily find a ROM instead of searching through pages and pages trying to see if and problems persist, and easily state what their ROM is all about. This could really be a break-through website, that can take the awesome geeky-ness of XDA and transfer all the knowledge to help everyone. I really do love XDA, but sometimes it is hard to keep up with all the new terms and lingo. It would also help to de-clutter XDA, leaving developers noob question free. I know i probably sound crazy i know. but if anyone is interested in helping please PM me, it would be greatly appreciated. and it would be the start of something new for ROM's, mainstreaming if you will.
Cheers
...And if this is posted in the wrong place i do apologize in advanced.
really...?

[Q] Dev. Help

Hello,
I am somewhat new to xda forums and Im glad to be here.
I wanted to ask for some help regarding developing android applications and programs, as I am somewhat lost in the beginning stages of the process. I havent successfully downloaded the correct programs in order to begin so I guess if someone could help in that regard. However more importantly I would like to know if there is anyone who would be willing to be my official dev. trainer/tutor to teach me the basics so that I can actually have a chance at developing something.
I know ive seen a no noobs section so I know pros must be looking at my post like "just another noob". But I am really interested in learning and I would appreciate someones help and guidance. Thanks and I hope someone decides to help.
First of all, no one will dedicate his time to teach you. some have work/school and other important stuff to do other than teaching you.. But im sure they can offer you a minute to post here the things you need to read and answer the problems you have..
maybe the first thing to do is to list down what have you already accomplished, like what you already read about programming, about android programming and such stuff..
so that people can point you to your next step. at this point it seems that you are totally lost and dont know here to begin, and so the pros who wants to help you..
goodluck and dont lose hope..

From one Noob to others!!

First Off, I am a Noob at modding i am learning daily like all the rest of us but I want to give a little advice to my other Noob friends. If you are looking for something on Nvflash or rom instalation help use the search bar at the to of the page first. You will be amazed how much information and detailed instructions there are and probably can get most of the common questions answered faster than waiting on a reply. If your problem is complex then by all means ask away here, this community is awesome and will help you out. I just think searching and reading can help out the congestion of common questions and save the time for the big Ugh Ohs we run into!!!!

This is good advice. We were all noobs at one point or another. If those searching for help and good answers would just take the time to search, read, search and read some more they would most certainly discover that chances are very good someone before them had the very same or simular problem and the solution is most certainly posted somewhere in this forum.
XDA is all about community and the help is there, one only need to search.

Also My carrier is US Cellular could someone please tell me which forum I should be in as I did NOT see US Cellular listed in the forums for the Galaxy S 3? It would also be great if someone could point me in the right direction of where I should start reading and learning the ropes of rooting my phone and another question I have is should I learn other things before I go right into learning how to root the phone? I know how to use my phone pretty well to the point where I think I'm above needing to learn the basics if you will. Any help is and will be greatly appreciated in getting started here so I can learn I'm really excited and can't wait to learn more! Until then I'll be reading through this site and learning as much as I can hopefully someone will know where I can go to get on my way to learn the good stuff about my phone!! Again I want to thank you all for the help you will hopefully be giving me it's greatly appreciated very much so!!! Thanks again!!!

If you browse around the development forums you should be able to find more information about how to root your phone and such. Many of the rom developers there have a rom that is labeled specifically for the phone. Look in the title. It should say [d2usc] for your model. Also posted at the top of the original android development thread there's a toolkit. That might have the rooting info your looking for. Also I would highly recommend looking in Android development and reading all(yes ALL) of the stickies posted there. They have a lot of helpful information that can help if you have a problem or prevent it from happening in the first place. After you've learned yourself some knowledge have some fun and happy flashing!
