I have my status bar almost ICS'd, but I noticed that one of the last problems is the spacing between like the WiFi, 4G, Signal, Battery, and Clock icons is further apart than in ICS. One of the reasons I noticed is that the 4G icon is 4G with a signal bar beside it instead of combined like pictured. I tried changing it with Rom Toolbox with no luck. Also, I would like to get my clock font color changed to the ICS blue, as well as figure out how to apply the Rugular Roboto font to it because it seems the bold one currently is applied to the clock. Any suggestions for these issues?

And the 3 bars resonating off the 4g is the 4g signal strength. Isn't that redundant as the wifi signal icon also tells me my wifi strength?

No sir
The bars "resonating" off the 4g are just indicators that the data connection is active, the blue signal bars indicate the wifi connection is active and show it's signal strength....the signal bars next to the battery show how strong your 4g strength is. The redundant part is having both wifi and data active at the same time.

Yea, that makes sense. Well I thought that because when looking through the framework-res I noticed there was sys_4g_signal(1-4) that looked as if they were there to represent signal strength. I just want an exact replica of the ICS status bar! :O How could I go about deactivating the 4G icons when wifi is enabled?

The 4g icon is gonna be there so long as there is 4g available in your location, but you can turn off the data connection and get rid of the 4g signal bars by going to settings/battery&data manager/data delivery and unticking "data enabled".
Or you could install HiAPN and place it's data toggle on your homescreen. Or you could use the drop down toggles in your ROM, it would be the icon showing the up and down arrows.
Blur overrides the default .png's for the 4G icon which is why ROM Toolbox doesn't work. If you want to get the right icons then look in /system/app/SystemUI and/or /system/framework/framework-res for the signal icons that start with "zz_moto". However, you would also need to do some XML editing to remove the icon that says "4G".
The clock's font color is located in framework-res/res/values/styles.xml in the entry "StatusBar.Icon."
Or, you can take the easy route

Has anyone tried this and confirmed it to work cause I did and couldn't get it to run. But I could have been doing something wrong as well Was hoping it would work for my lil project........
That deblur script looks interesting. Am I right in thinking this would best be run on a factory reset stock rooted phone instead of on one of our current ROMs?

But the problem lies when you delete a blur app and try to replace it with another. I've learned more then I wanted to know in the last 3 weeks
I would think the deblur would be no good in terms of an official update from Motorola. I'm freezing stuff and will defrost before an update. Unless we get CM7 OR CM9 then its a whole new ballgame.

Once we got our FXZ I got very proficient in getting back to stock and not by means of choice
To move forward you just have to take a leap, somethings work and then a LOT doesn't.... LOL
That's too funny. I don't have windows so I know nothing about FXZ or RSD light (did I even spell that stuff right). I've only had to pull the battery - just the other day in fact from a boot loop. Then it put me back into CWM recovery-on-boot. Then it was a small matter of restoring my backup. I'd probably be a bit more adventurous if I had experience recovering in LINUX. I know its possible (and documented somewhere) I just haven't had the need. (Yet)
Sent via Tapatalk with VictoryRom_v1.1
CWM on boot is a necessity if your are flashing a lot or modifying your phone. Once you find something you like just flash the removal zip and your good to go.
I've tried verything I know to get the gps fully functioning along side of it but they just dont want to coexist :\
VictoryRom is the only ROM I've tried that coexists with CWM Recovery on Boot. IIRC

Victory Rom doesnt have init.d support enabled so that may have something to do with it

Pure guess. There's a hidden app that loads at startup that they don't want displayed. It could be unique to Rogers.

the app Visible Vote Mobile's icon is a blank space in ICS for some reason (and they haven't updated it yet), but any app would change locations depending upon the ordering of and reception of new notifications, not stay over to the left like that (in the newest slot I believe)...
It's not a Rogers thing, mine doesn't have this. Was it doing this at first boot, or only after some apps were installed?

What happens on my screen is as follows: Whenever an app is opened and running, one that has an icon on the notification bar, that icon will first appear to the very far left of the notification bar. Then, a few seconds later, it jumps over to the right about 4-5mm as you can see in my OP image.
I just did another test, and created two images. The first one below was taken just a moment after I plugged the phone into my computer with a USB connection. As you can see, the USB Debugging icon appears, and it's to the absolute left. Then, after it disappears, all the icons jump over to the right, as you can see in the second image below.

So, you're saying that your unit does not have this behaviour?

Are you using the app "notification toggle"? I know that app will cause the gap in the notification bar if you set it to hide the notification icon.

Right. My unit from Rogers does not exhibit the behaviour in your screenshot. It behaves perfectly. So it's almost 100% got to be an app that's installed.
I would go to Settings -> Apps -> Running, and then start killing apps one by one, watching the notification bar each time to figure out what the culprit is. (I presume when you drag the bar down, you don't see this "ghost" notification.) Note: Your phone may become unstable if you start killing all your running apps, but a reboot is guaranteed to bring it back to normal.
Found it ...

Actually, you have the right idea. I had a look at all my running programs, and one in particular came to mind. It's called 3G Watchdog.
It allows you to have a notification icon if your data connection is active; however, even when your data connection is not active, the icon is still there, it's just invisible.
Peter
Addendum: I sent an email to the developer to see if he can change the app so that when you don't want a notification, it does not take up the space. We'll see what he/she says.

Whenever a notification first pops up on the task bar it will take up the "entire" top bar (from left till the system battery & signal). Afterwards, if the notification is active it will display in whatever order it was opened.
In the case of 3G watchdog... it must always run as an active application or else android would shut it down if memory got low. As you can see... that would cause some problems. Hence... to keep the app open they must have it set as an active notification which forces the icon to be in the notification bar.
If the bar bothers you, I suggest using HTCs built in data usage tool. You can restrict data usage with it.
Habits are difficult to break ...

Your explanation makes perfect sense. Thank you!
As you know, it can be difficult to break well-established habits, and I've come to rely on my 3G WatchDog meters (see below).
On the other hand, if I did remove 3G WatchDog, and use HTC's built-in data usage tool, it would give me a bit more space for other apps on my home screen but, as I said, habits are hard to break.
Peter
3G WatchDog Developer's answer ...
Here's the reply I got from the developer of 3G WatchDog:
Hi Peter,
Thank you for using 3G Watchdog.
The space in the status bar corresponds to an invisible notification which is linked to the "Increase service priority" option in 3GW Settings > Advanced. As explained when you check this option, "This feature requires a permanent notification in the status bar. The icon will be hidden whenever possible, but the notification text can't".
Technically this is because Android allows to raise the priority of applications only if they have permanent notifications in the status bar. The underlying idea is that these are applications which must not interrupted even if you are doing something else (e.g. a music player) - the permanent notification stays there to give the user a way to easily control theapps (e.g. pause/restart the music).
I let you update your thread with this answer.
Best regards
Richard
Peter
hi all,
this problem also happen to me. However it wasn't 3G Watchdog causing the problem. It was My Data Manager app which has similar function like 3G Watchdog.
Thx to Maedhros and PeterHTC to give some light of what causing this empty space on notification bar
Data monitoring is built into Ice Cream Sandwhich. I'm not sure if this is the HTC tool you guys are talking about, or if they added their own (that would seem redundant, but redundancy is to be expected with mfg/carrier bloatware; see AT&T Navigator vs Google Maps w/ Navigation). I've played around with it a little bit, it's one of the nicer additions in ICS. Though I'm on grandfathered unlimited, so it's not terribly relevant to me. Still nice to be able to track data usage.
@ PeterHTC & linuxspy
I use "TrafficCounter" and have no problems with the space on the notification bar.
SwitchPro Widget also leaves a blank space in the notification bar while running.

Hey everyone, First off i just want to say thank you to the developers that did this, its pretty awesome. Anyways I realize that it has some bugs, but I seem to be having one that other people don't. My WiFi doesn't work, I click on it and the "on/off" selector is kind of faded out compared to the working bluetooth selector and it is in the off position and won't move, when I click on the Wifi part it goes to a screen were I can't press anything accept the icon on the bottom right side with 3 little squares and that isn't any help, the screen just says "turning Wi-Fi on..." and it has been like that since i installed this last night. I have turned the phone off a couple of times and nothing. Other than that i really like this OS! I just am burning up my datat plan without having my wifi on. Thanks a lot!

Switches automatically but in fringe areas the phone is constantly searching changing back and forth between 3g and 4g and wasting battery. The d 850 is the only model I have seen which is not user switchable. It appears AT&T has removed or hidden the option for some reason. The T-Mobile and Korean versions are user switchable.

I have Korean version F400K but I don't see that option,Can you elaborate the steps to switch manually?
If you are rooted you can do this easily. You just need to edit the build prop file. Download buildprop editor from the play store and then just change one line, ro.build.target_operator from "ATT" to "OPEN". Then reboot. This will change the phone into thinking it's not ATT branded and will put the "Network Mode" menu back to choose under "Mobile Networks" in settings. Works perfectly. FYI the AT&T signal bars will change to the generic version but it's a small tradeoff to get that menu back and enjoy better battery life. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip . I did your exact steps except I used android tuner to edit the build prop file. I also wanted to note changing it to open displays my brightness and volume sliders now on the notification screen . I'm sure it wasn't there before.

Not only that, the ATT text on the status bar also disappeared (which is great! more space for other icons). The weather app also appeared in the app drawer (previously hidden). The wifi hotspot toggle can be enabled as well. I wonder what other changes this brought, although the voice recorder shortcut is still missing from the app drawer.

I noticed the WiFi toggle as well, but noticed that my tether mod no longer worked after setting it to "OPEN."

Okie dokie. For some reason, I had to install busybox for the build prop editor to work. But it finally did!
Edit
Also, I just found out that installing busybox shows up in the root counter.

I could kiss you right now! can I buy you a beer instead?
also, to anyone who cares you can get the old icons back with g3 tweaksbox (or any other carriers for that matter) I happen to like the ATT 4g LTE icon
Would changing the build.prop to "open" from "ATT" affect your ability to flash the tot and dll files to get back to stock I wonder?
No those look at the device model setting in the build prop, this shouldn't be an issue

Side note I have a new option saying Enhanced 4G LTE Mode
Wnayone know what that is? I try enabling it and it doesn't work
Also my sliders didn't appear and my icons stayed normal - never mind, I had them hidden in G3 tweaks
Check and see if your hidden menu is still there (3845#*850#). I was playing around with this and a few other things and lost mine.

Glad I could help everyone. I tried the enhanced 4G toggle as well but doesn't stick. I think it's probably for Voice over LTE which I don't think is enabled on AT&T yet. Yeah G3 Tweaks is awesome, you can pretty much customize everything in there.

The mobile data settings don't stick after a reboot. It reverts to LTE instead of 3g after rebooting the device. Anyway to force it?
Retain your factory warranty and Samsung pay with this guide. I assure you your phone will FLY after you do these mods. As an Added benefit your battery life will be increased as well. Here we go:

Adguard - Replacement for adaway for non-rooted phones.
-Navigate to https://m.adguard.com/en/install.html
-Scroll down and click "download and install" (yellow button)
-When download is finished click on it to install the APK
-Once the app is installed open it
-Click the grey button in the middle of the screen to activate adguard (it ill turn green)
Package disabler pro - Replacement app for Titanium Backup's "freeze" feature for non-rooted phones.
-Open the playstore
-Search for "Package disabler pro"
-Don't be cheap, pay the 2 dollars. It's worth every penny.
-Install the app and run it.
-When you open the app it will look like this:
-I can sit here all day and go through the hundreds of entries. Or you can just import the .xml that I made. I researched every single package that I disabled individually and then tested for weeks to make sure there were no glitches or missing features. **WARNING** disabling certain services or apps can cause you to have to wipe out your phone and restore the firmware. The ones in my .xml will not harm your phone. If you want to experiment beyond what is in my .xml just be sure to research before disabling anything. Also I may have disabled apps that you use so you may want to scroll through what is disabled to make sure I didn't turn anything off you want.
-In the top right click the three dots
-Click "Import from xml" (this is for the T-mobile variant, but will work for all Note 5's)
-Select my xml ("disabledSAFE.xml") and click import (it's attached to this post as a .zip file)
Speed up all animations.
-Go to settings>about device
-click build number 7 times to enable developer options
-Go to settings>developer options
-Scroll down until you see "window animation scale".
-You are going to change "window animation scale" and the 2 entries following it, for a total of 3 changes.
-Change all 3 to "0.5x"

Battery life
I took it upon myself to do some battery life testing. I calibrated my battery by running the phone until it shut itself off. I then plugged it in and didn't take it off the charger until it was at 100%. That night I took the phone off the charger, it was at 100%, I did not turn the screen on. I just let it sit for 8 hours while I slept. I had google now and location totally disabled. By morning I had lost 4% battery. The next night I did the same thing but with location services enabled. I lost 5% that night. The next night I enabled google now. That night I also lost 5%.
Something to note. The battery discharges faster from 100% than it would at, say 60%. If the phone were at about 60% when I ran my test, I would probably see a loss of 2%.
These findings are interesting becuase I have done extensive testing in the past regarding location services, using better battery stats, wake lock detector, and GSAM battery monitor. In the past, on previous phones, I always had significantly more drain when anything location related was allowed to run. I noticed when I got the Note 5 it slept really well out of the box. So maybe they figured it out with this phone, I don't know. The battery is smaller than my Note 4 was, but certainly lasts longer.
Anyway, try out this setup and tell me what you think!
T-Mobile Wifi Calling
I added a new .xml called WifiCallEnabled.xml for T-mobile users. This is the same as the original zip, only with Wifi Calling enabled.

Anyone know how to resize embedded images on a forum?
Nice guide. It's pretty much what I do but I only turn on Adguard if I'm visiting a site with annoying ads. I don't like the VPN notification up top.
Thanks, why not just disable window animations altogether?

Yes I have a t-mobile note 5 with at&t so can't use it. I will re-enable it and upload a new xml for you guys.
Attached is wifi calling enabled, everything else from the original .xml is still disabled. I will also post it in the OP.
Hi seh 6183,
Thank you for this guide.
Maybe a stupid question but everything works as before when we use your xml?
I do not want to loose any functionality on my note 5. I know you stated that in the OP but maybe there are some things we loose but you don't care about these. Like S Pen, location,......
A second question: how much batterie life did you win after using this? Just curious.
Thank you

Everything is working using my .xml minus a few things I never use such as WiFi Calling and s-pen keeper. I have uploaded a second .xml for WiFi Calling in the OP and if you want to re-enable s-pen keeper, just open PDP and scroll down to s-pen keeper and uncheck the box. While you're in there look through the others to see if you see anything else you may use such as the T-Mobile account app.
I've actually never done battery testing with and without packages disabled. I will do that tonight and update the OP tomorrow.
Thanks for this. Xml file worked great. Any idea on how to disable the headphones volume warning?

Sorry thats built into Touchwiz. This app can only disable apps and services.
So to reverse everything you have turned off we can simply just unchecked all the boxes in the PDP app and all will be back to normal?

That would take forever, just hit the 3 dots in the top right and select "Enable all disabled", and you'll be back to stock.
I read everyone comments... I would
Say that after the last update that was of 144mb... My battery percentage has only gone down 3-4 percentage at night time
Well boys I'm off to greener pastures. I rooted my phone yesterday and installed a rom and a kernel. I hated giving up my warranty and Samsung pay, but I hated more the lag and bad ram management. I particularly hated the keyboard lag and auto correct issues. When I read the features of the arter kernel I was blown away and had to try it. I had to do something because I kept looking at nexus 6ps every day and was probably going to make the switch, so I would have lost Samsung pay anyway.
The note 5 truly is the best phone overall, but some things just need to be ironed out and that unfortunately can't be don't without root.
And? You like it much better?
What are the advantages?

So far there is zero lag. None while typing or scrolling. I'm using the darthstalker rom and arter kernel. Converted the storage to f2s using arter and everything flies. Apps stay in memory way longer too. Will test battery over the next couple days and see if any lag comes back.

Mod Edit
Thanks for your time and bye for now.
I tried it and had even more battery drain than I already do with Android System. Android System was #1, System UI was #2. I usually have 3-5 hours of screen time (with a charge half way through the day), so there's no reason anything should be above Screen in the battery usage list.

I also didn't notice any slow down. Only thing that bothers me a lot is that eveytime I reboot or I try to make some changes the App uninstall himself. Everything else looks really nice.

I believe the uninstall bug was addressed and fixed in the newest update. I just glanced over the patch notes so not 100% sure.

Not to mentioned the very strange multitasking menu that makes the experience intolerable. I'm hoping they just give people the stock Android notification shade independent of the app.

Oh yes, there is plenty of UI slowdown and almost a 1% per minute battery drain, in addition to the side-effect of turning my phone into a fine pocket warmer.
The app itself is a good alternative. But there are some serious issues that may be addressed by fixing memory leaks and clearing some cache data. But I am un-rooted and plan on staying that way for a bit

Something's wrong with your phone. I have nothing like that. Neither do the many other users of this app. SystemUI has used 2% of my battery over the last 3 days.

Why with this enabled, when I press power button off then back on, screen doesn't lock. Does it only engage after x amount of time? I just have default set.

If you have it set to lock immediately through your lockscreen settings, not through GoodLock (GL does not have any options for this that I have seen) it should lock as soon as the screen is turned off. By default, mine was set up for 5 minutes (I think) but I keep mine set to 1 minute of inactivity.

Quick Update for folks that are having the massive Battery Drain issue:
I took some advice from another thread that suggested actually creating a routine for Everywhere vs just using the Default profile. Apparently there is something wonky in the Default Routine that causes it to attempt to pinpoint your location repeatedly. (wakelock) This in turn make the GPS and location service run constantly. After creating a Routine and basically setting it up with EVERYWHERE as the location, I have had some different results.
1. The phone is still running warm, definitely not hot as before. I could heat my coffee with it.
2. The battery drain is definitely still there, but not as severe.
I have been sending feedback over the past few days. We will see if Sammy will make any changes in the future.
I am also curious to see other finding from other users.

No. But if you are, I would blame your problems on something you've done with your rooted phone, not Goodlock. The app works fine for almost everyone. It's your experience that's abnormal, not mine.
