[Q] Kernel Question - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just flashed the matrix kernel and was needing to go back to the stock cm9 v.4 kernel that was built into the ROM itself. Anyone know if that's possible and if so how? Thanks.

Reflashing the ROM might do it.

not true. ive been using cm since a week since cm first came to android with cm3, on many different phones, cm works great with other kernels. since cm7 and cm9, on the nexus s, ive never used cm stock kernel, always used a custom kernel(trinity).

If you don't want to flash all rom, you can flash only cm9 v4 kernel. I am not able to post the link (less 8 message..)

Go to cm9 thread they have posted kernel separately if you still can't find it let me know

AWESOME!!
Ive tried it, and i love it. Probably the most stable ICS ROM ive tried (I have tried them all). This or his ICY 4 are the best ICS ROMs.
simple, fast, robust

[Solved] Remove thread requested

I have been running Elite Mod and then gummy nex for over a month now I believe but now the flashing junkie inside of me is coming out and I'm urged to see what other development is going on. So what is everybody running these days? I wanna try something new for a while. I was thinking about the ICS MIUI or swamp goblins dianxin port that is similar to it, I love the MIUI look and style. I know that I will in fact end up going back to GummyNex after a while I just wanna check something else out for a bit and calm my flashing urges. Lol. So any opinions?
Edit: Flashed a couple other roms and needed around with them for a bit. Decided none could live up to Gummy so I went back. Lol. Anyways. This thread is now useless. Mods please delete.

Not being funny, but how many times has this question been asked?= too many times! Without appearing rude, perhaps you should search a little through the Q&A threads & read the many answers people have posted to this ( many times asked! ) question!
Even better idea! Go to the devlopment section & download a few for yourself to try!
Try them out! That's the best way. I like codename android 1.4 with Matr1x kernel. Just to give you somewhere to start
Bugless beast
I use evilisto 4.0.4 port

You've got to just try them out. I started with gummynex..was good..i tried CyberGR-MOD...stuck to it for few weeks...also liked it..very stable everything working.. now i am using Nuhetri-reloaded v 3.01...it seems to be extremely stable..based on ICS 4.04 an I am using Air Kernel 3.3 and liking it a lot.. i am finding it's been the fastest / smoothest ROM i have tried to date...
go on...be a FLASH WHORE
the NexusMV roms are on the top of my list
My favorite is nuhetri-reloaded-v3.0.1 and for me it was very stable and smooth. I use nuhetri's rom since v2.3.0 without any issue. No lags and no reboots

If you don't trust these numbskulls, go check the forums for your phone and see which one has has the highest views/thread count. Those are usually your best bet for a good (stable) rom.
I tried 3-4 custom roms. Cyber GR is the best. Fast (though not fastest), stable, lots of useful features.

I suggest you try to flash ROMs and Kernels. Best ROM for me might not be the best for you it depends on how you use your phone. All ICS rooms in the dev section are stable since we have the official ICS update. BTW Im using cyberGr stormy 3 v8. Happy flashing...

+1 .. nuhetri-reloaded is the best among stable (OTA-based) for me
You can check bedalus work on ICS ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481856
I've used CyborGRv7, then Oddie's MIUI's ROM.
Now I am on nuhetri v3.0.1 and it's working flawlessly!! For now, it's option number 1 for me (but I haven't tried much either ).
everyone got their own opinions... it all comes down to ur preference ... personally. i m using aokp milestone 3...
itz feature packed and stable... follow my signature for details ...

I felt the latest cm nightly was the most responsive i have used on a ns4g. Still not where i feel it should be though. They all feel like betas to me still. Was using matrix kernel.

+1 from me too.
nuhetri-reloaded-v3.0.1 is really a nice rom and it's fast
I suggest you combine it with AirKernel 3.4.5

No custom kernel on stock?

I have never used a stock rom unless I bought a new phone and was working on installing a custom one, so I'm new to stock roms. I have the stock JB rom and I tried to flash air kernel to my device. As I was booting up, it wouldn't go past the Google splash screen. Are custom kernels not supported on stock roms?
Sent from my A500
I've flashed custom kernels on rooted stock plenty of times. It may just be that Air Kernel is having issues with some phones. I know SimpleKernel works, but it's basically stock with BLN and Voodoo. A few people on JellyBelly ROM had issues with Air Kernel too, so it's not just stock that's having issues with it.
OK. Do you know if matr1x kernel works or not?

Who likes Stock CM Mod Better than Stock?

So I`m thinking of making the change over to CM Mod nightlys.
So I have just been running stock 4.4.2 with xposed.
Thinking about just using CM mod nightlys (I read that the nightlys are sometimes more stable than the snapshots)
And things seem nice and quick just playing around but I need something That wont give to many problems How has CM been lately? Also how is OTA updates? are they reliable enough to not have to keep wiping each time theres an update?
Thanks
Also Does Xposed Modules work on CM roms?
And is there a recommended kernel besides using the stock CM One?
There are alot of great roms... Alot better than cm.

Just try it for a while, at the end of the day its just about preference. The CM rom itself is rockstable and the stock kernel performs very well and offers good batterylife.

What this guy said but to add, keep an open mind there are a lot of good ROM's out there. Purity and Mahdi come to mind. On my n4 I used carbon and couldn't wait to flash the next nightly but I got away from that.
I recommend Chaos Kernel since they went CAF or Elemental X has CAF version
