Before I rooted my HTC Inspire 4G, if I recall correctly, the notification LED worked like this: it has two colors, green and orange. When plugged in, it will show orange while charging and green while charged. The LED only blinks to indicate a notification if the screen is off; if not plugged in, it blinks green. If plugged in, it blinks the opposite of the charging color. At least, that's how I think it worked.
What I am certain of is that I can no longer get the notification LED to work properly. I've been trying a number of different ROMs recently--Existz, Revolution, CyanogenMod, CoreDroid, RCMix Energize Blue--and in none do the notification LED work perfectly. Some of them do blink the notification LED, but only if the screen is off and the device is not charging. If it is plugged in--as it is the vast majority of the time--the LED does not blink to signal a new notification.
I've tried the LightFlow app--didn't fix it. I've tried NoLED as an alternative, but am not happy with that.
Is this just a quirk of all the ROMs, and I should expect that? Or could it be that something got messed up in my rooting and romming, and if so, is there a solution?

1. If Im not mistaken it stays solid orange when charging (plugged in)
2. Solid green when fully charged (plugged in)
3. Blinks between orange and green when there is a notification. (plugged in)
As far as it staying blinking it should be is setting when you can shut it off or on. Usually its in the launcher settings that your using not a ROM issue. (if Im not mistaken)
If thats thats your biggest worry your worrying about a knife fight while your holding a gun. (lol) No big issue.
I rooted and flashed LeeDroid to mine. My LED notifications worked after rooting and flashing. When charging it's amber, when fully charged it's solid green. Off the charger it blinks green for a new notification and amber when it needs to be charged. Never noticed it blink between the 2 on the charger. Have you made sure it's been turned on in your settings?

I am rooted and flashed Revoltution HD 6.3.2 and mine seems to be working as desired.... I assumed you double checked Settings--> Display --> Notification Flash Just to make sure??

This adds simultaneous handling of notifications to the Speaker LED while charging, on CM6.1.
Behavior:
If it is plugged in, the light will stay solid (charging). If a notification comes in with the screen off, it will blink green. If you turn on the screen, the charging light will come on. If you don’t acknowledge the notification, when the screen turns off it will blink green again.
When it is not plugged in, notifications will blink green only when the screen is off.

So it works for the G1 and the G2? Thats interesting.
Now that I am not on Cm6.1 and rather on the official 2.2 AOSP this could be useful, thanks.

this is for the g1.
i have a seperate module for the g2 (in the g2 section).
Ineresting. I was always upset that I'm not able to notice any notification while charging phone, maybe now the problem is over .
excuse me does not work, the LED notifications for sms, mms, twitter and missed call. I'm not talking about when it is charging but during normal use.
It works for email. Twitter has their own handling and so does sms/mms. Missed call should also come through (which has not changed).
Missed called led notify should be on for missed call.
However, in earlier versions of Froyo (2.2) the led notifications worked . Because now they do not work

ill see if i can look in to it. that's out of the scope of this particular mod though, but any amendments i make that stem out of this module will be committed to the same git place and posted here.
It's kinda like Always Flash in the market. I'll give it a try and see if it uses less ram.

I use NoLed right now but is there an LED hack like Missed Call app around?
What exactly are you looking for? Different colors or just always flashing LED even when its charging etc?? I bought "always flash" so I know when there's a text or email even when its charging. Been working perfect with the last 3-4 phones I've had.. Def worth the couple bux.
Edit: attached the apk for all...
just different colors from the LED

Couldn't find "always flash" app in the Market
I doubt our led can flash colours other than red and yellow. I stand to be corrected
Cyanogenmod has tons of settings, different colors for different apps etc
Yeah, but that required a rooted phone

Might have been removed, here's the apk from my files attached.
The "notification LED" color depends in first of your phone, so any applications even if you have root access can give you an other color, if your phone doesn't have it.
The "notification LED" of the HTC Sensation (or HTC Sensation 4G) shows a :
- Solid green light when it is connected to the power adapter or
a computer and the battery is fully charged.
- Flashing green light when you have a pending notification.
- Solid orange light when the battery is being charged.
- Flashing red light when the battery level reaches very low.
So except if you open your phone to change the led (at your own risks), you can't have for exemple a "notification LED" blue color.
it doesnt look like the LED indicator lights up when its charging? the only way to tell is if i turn on the screen to look. is it just me or is there a setting to enable a charging indicator?
You may be able to do it with lightflow.
Edit: Yes, you can do it with light flow and I never thought of it. Thanks for the idea.
FWIW I used a wireless charger.
Same issue here
I use Light Flow Lite for notifications and tried tweaking it to no avail. When I plug in the charger the LED flashes for a fraction of a second and then nothing...
Help! I have a D800 and I woke up in the middle of the night to a blinding light coming from the phone's LED. It's fading to blue from green and then back and its not stopping. There was a amber alert which I've since deleted but the light is not stopping. I've turned off notifications for amber alerts and turned off the LED entirely but it's still not stopping. I have rebooted the phone 3 times. There are no notifications whatsoever now but regardless if the screen is off or not the light is constantly flashing. I called att and of course they have no clue.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Seems like the LED is bothering you. Could be some firmware app update ? Try powering it off ? Or let the battery completely drain and see if it fixes. Never came across anything like it so i am just giving you some things you could try.
There is a hidden notification LED light on the Moto G3 I discovered long back. But it is only quite some time ago I have rooted my phone. So the LED only works while changing and not while there are any notifications. I tried using Lightflow but that didn't work either. So is there a way to enable it by a zip or an app.
There is a ton of threads about this on this forum.
No, it cannot be used as a notification LED because it is soldered to the usb charging port so it only gets power if it's connected to a power source.
The only thing you can do is use Tasker and have the phone connected to a power source constantly and make Tasker send a command for the led to light up but I've heard there's like a 10-20 second delay so this is not something that can help you daily and barely works even with this workaround.
