[Q] unable to swap 2G/3G in xwla4 austria rom - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

Hello everyone, I'm currently using 2.3.6 in India in my SGR on the xwla4 austria stock rom. Ever since I upgraded, I've been unable to toggle the 2G/3G settings. This means that my phone is always on 3G even when not required and so it's consuming more battery. At the moment it only shows 2 options i.e wcdma/Gsm and wcdma only. In 2.3.5 Indian rom there used to be a third Gsm only option. Is there any way I can get back the toggle setting to work?

I m also using xwla4 but havent seen any prob like this, i have both 2g and 3g options for mobile data.
Try re flashing xwla4 maybe it will help

Also as in the OP there is no 2g 3g chooser, would U provide screenshots???
Think since it's branded "3" ROM there is no switch toggle.
Or someone is having hallucinations

Yep no switcher in original branded version... but U can easily debrand it by replacing original csc with your preferred one. I did it with my nordic and I have that option.

Ok guys try this code at your own risk, but it directly allows you select bands forget about GSM / WCDMA. So use it wisely as I am not aware what would be the outcome.

[MOD] Smart Rotate and Blocking Mode icon Remover

I knocked this together for the i9300, and thought I'd add the i9305 to the list too.
Obviously I've not tested it as I don't have a 4G one yet.
Anyhow, there's two mods, one that removes the Blocking Mode icon (just the 'enabled' icon from the notification area) and also adds the Smart Rotate option into the Display config menu. The other just adds the Smart Rotate option, and leaves the Blocking Mode alone.
Original Post is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943987, if someone test's and lets me know (you may need to do a Dalvik wipe, especially if on an Odex rom). If you then let me know when new Framework version other than XXALI9 comes out I'll keep it upto date.

Tested On DEODEXED XXALI5 and It flashes normally, I wiped Dalvik Cache, Boots up fine but there is abosolutley no change in settings. Is this because I need to be on XXALI9 ? I dont see how the Firmware versoin could be the problem they are the exact same file name and structure. One thing tho why isnt there a deodexed version of this because i have a feeling this is the problem. I checked in system/app and the file name Secsettings.apk Is still the original one no date change or size change
Flashed here over ripper rom and blocking icon shows here too

Right, uploading fixed versions now, they don't correct the English mistakes, I'll do that later when I have some more time. But they do now mount the right partition, there's me just assuming it would be the same one as the i9300!

Hey, I know you didn't know but we already had this idea- it's called ProjectStock4.0, a rom-project features a lot of TW stuff, using tw framework, etc.
don't think it's quite simple, Juhan Jufri, sgoo and my little self are working over months to make this possible- to make a inofficial "samsung"like ICS update for our I9001.
I already made some Alpha's. currently Alpha3 is a dismiss, it seems that I broke some TW signatures incorrect.
please, i would appreciate you waitig a little time longer for our awesome rom. If you want to join our team if you have a bit of know how, I would recommend you to not hesistate contacting me. If you don't have the knowledge, you can still be a tester.
Porting and breaking the MMS and Contacts.apk signatures are the most difficult things in this project. I don't even know if it's possible... Anyway, I'm trying and trying and trying over months and I will not stop
Thank you,

FAQ's :
What is Fast Dormancy?
"Firstly a little explanation on what FD actually is.
When your phone is connected via data (not wifi) your phone needs to enter certain states in order to maintain this connection. If your Operator does not have FD support or you have it disabled, then basically your states are just connected or not connected. What this means is that every time your phone connects to data, it will have to go through all of its internal functions in order to achieve the connection and perform the data transfer. This is slow and obviously the more processing that is required, the more the hit on battery."

I just bought my XL so I didn't tried yet, but try this:
In some phones you can disable Fast Dormancy by dialing *#*#9900#*#* and select “Disable fast dormancy”.
I hope it helped.

A possible LTE option missing, solution :D

Hi,
I think i may have found a solution to the LTE options disappearing after a new ROM installation... but i need some developers to help out.
Download this app (i am not associated with this app in any way, but it helps to solve this problem)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...Toggle&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
Run the app > place the 4G toggle on > bring down the notification bar > push the 4G button and it will bring up a menu hidden deep within the phones system settings somewhere. You want to scroll down the page of text to get to the menu where it says "SET PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE" and select LTE/GSM/CDMA
Basically, this app allows you to access the full settings for your phones. Basically, this IS the solution to the LTE disappearing problem
Thing is, i am not a developer. I have no idea how to access this menu without using this application. Maybe someone else with more skill might be able to extract the method that is used and turn this into a simplier method which would mean we no longer have to re-install stock ROMS to get LTE back....
Cheers
I try it and doesn't work on my I9505 (MF8 CSCBT)

hmmm, must only work on the Google Edition ROMs then....
I believe the normal TW Samsung ROMs should have some kind of "Phone Info" menu - similar but not exactly the same as that one...

There is a fix for lte option thats already out. As long as your phone is rooted with cwm recovery.
I am assuming that your talking about the network Mode and selecting lte.

You mind elaborating on that statement and give us a link?
I want to be able to turn OFF LTE and only use HSPA for now, but I have no way of getting into the right menus to do it with the GE 4.2.2 ROM I am using.

There is an issue. On stock sammy roms where people have flashed a custom rom. But the option to select lte mode was not available to them.
The fix just enabled the option so they could select lte. But this was on a stock Sammy rom. Not on a aosp rom.
So are you saying on the google version you dont have access to the mobile network menu?

I had an issue where LTE disappeared on an unmodified GS4GE, Google even sent me a new one and then it happened again. This was the only thing besides a hard reset that fixed the issue. Thank you!

This happens if you toggle '2G networks' on mobile networks.
Did using this app fix it? I guess when you toggle it, the ROM incorrectly sets the mobile network state to GSM/WCDMA only, instead of LTE/WCDMA.

That explains a lot. Yea, the only way to fix it was using that app. I hope it's fixed when they release 4.3 for the Google Editions.

Glad i could help.
It was becoming an annoying problem for me, since i like to try new ROMs and stuff regularly. I was losing LTE connectivity all the time. The best solutions people had come up with was to reflash a "Stock" ROM then the corresponding ROM that i wanted afterwards. But that was just becoming tiring and took far more time than it should have.

Alternatively, if you need to access it often, you can install QuickShortcutMaker and add the activity Phone info from under Settings, also named com.android.settings.RadioInfo

Yes, it does. At least in the 4.3 leak it does.
You can also just look at my post above on how to do it without a dialer code.

Doesnt work this way. Instead you can use this app, then select setting->Testing->com.settings.TestingSettings
This open the testing menu. Select device info in this screen and bingo you can now select any network.

I already added it the way I mentioned and have been using it successfully to force LTE. This is only for GE ROMs, since we're the ones that have problems with LTE "disappearing".
TW may need your method instead.
