Hello guys.
I search a kernel for my android 4.0.4 stock . What did you propose ?
I wait your anser for a best kernel.
Nexus S : 4.0.4
what you need from kernel? is speed - you need one kernel, if battery life - other, if mods - third...
I use SimpleKernel 1.20, but it has problem with voodoo-colors.
Truthfully there's no best "kernel". It all comes down to what you want from that kernel. So you should try them all and found out the right kernel for you. For example, if you want stability, simple kernel or thamalus kernel is the right one. If you want lots of mods, Air, Matr1x and Glados would be right. If you want pure performance, Trinity would be good for you.

Thx for your reply.
I search battery life, if i can, modify the CPU.
But really stable for android 4.0.4 stock.
I have download Glados Kernel,
He Work perfectly for android 4.0.4.
Another kernel i don't wan't to try it, because is not certified for 4.0.4.
I personally prefer Simple Kernel. It has BLN, which since I've had the phone, is a must have. For some reason, Voodoo Control gave me issues with my mic messing up, even with suggested fixes, so I use the one with just the BLN add on. Experimentation is the best way to find out. Been running Simple Kernel for 3 days with no reboots or FCs.
I use air kernel. On snoop and smartassv2.some reboots during the week but I think it stock 4.0.4 and not kernel related.

Currently running MIUI 1.99 with Matr1x #5 kernel. Looking to flash a new ROM and/or kernel as it's been awhile. There's so many of each that I don't know where to start. My main priorities are stability and speed.
The only other ROM I've used is Cyanogenmod but I had a lot of issues with random reboots. Have these issues gotten better?
Any ROM suggestions? Thanks
Rooted stock with Matr1x. I recently switched back after months on CM7 doing the nightly flash routine. Don't miss it a single bit.

I don't even remember what the stock rom is like. I got cyanogen almost inmediately after getting my phone. Perhaps I'll try stock... what's the best way to go about doing this? Do i need to unroot my phone?

backup apps with titanium backup + factory reset (wipe data/cache/dalvik) + flash stock rom.
here you can find a great collection http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
you DO loose root by flashing a stock rom, but you just have to re-flash superuser (and maybe cwm if needed). I find the stock gingerbread rom very fast and reliable.
Plus, you'll receive the ICS ota when it's ready
(but you'll need to flash the stock recovery)
Wait another 2-3 weeks and flash ice cream sandwich.

Flash deck 1.3. Really fast stable and great battery life. Its just like stock rom with a few extra tweaks. Has some of cm7 mods without the bloat. Has toggle switches on the drop down and some status bar tweaks but very stable and like I said its close to stock. Running it with matrix 9.0. Give it try.

Sorry man its in the nexus s 4g dev section but i cant find it on the GSM dev section. You can always try oxygen rom which is very similar to deck which I was running before I flashed deck. Has the same kind of tweaks more or less. Was also a really good rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285243
give carbon a shot. it's based on oxygen but gives better performance than any rom i've used since getting this phone

I'd suggest NSCollab and a trinity kernel. This combo worked well for me but I caught the flashing bug since getting this Nexus S and now I'm off to try Nexus MV.
you should try superosr rom (AOSP), very fast and include CM settings as well
I've been trying all NS Roms, and I'll prefer NSCollab because,
-Fast and stable (Near 5000 in quadrant)
-Never had a random reboot
-Extremely stable at 1,2GHz
-Probably the best CM7-based ROM
I don't give a opinion about which kernel u need to use, because they are all awesome, for the highest score in Quadrant, use the Trinity TUV kernel.
But I like the Netarchy or Matr1x kernel more because they are more stable in my eyes. I hope this will give you some more information
U can also wait for ICS (IceCream Sandwich), it will be awesome too.
I'd suggest stock rom + stock kernel.
lower quadrant score but higher performance
Oxygen 2.3 with Matr1x
4097 quadrant at 1,3Ghz.
*UPDATE*
Try the Franco.Kernel, tested it, very stable and high performance.
Greets.
Matr1x all the way bud lmao
Hello, I'm brand new to all of these roms and such, I've got a rooted 2.2.2 froyo g2x/lgP999. I am interested in getting a rom and a kernel. Hi there,
If you don't have cwm recovery installed on your phone follow the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 to flash it.
Then pick one of the following 2.3.3 roms and flash it following the instructions provided on the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400620
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207125
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139832

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348635
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199304
There might be more 2.3.3 roms available in the development section, also you might wanna consider flashing a 2.3.7 rom, if so check out the development section and pick one, or try several roms and pick whichever one you like most. Devs are more active with 2.3.7 roms, so you'll find better support and more features.
As for the kernels, you can usually overclock your CPU with any custom rom (provided you get the appropriate app from the market if there are no OCing options built into the rom), but I haven't used a 2.3.3 rom in a long time so I'm not sure if OCing is available with the stock kernels they come with. If you do go with a 2.3.5 (or above, namely 2.3.7) rom then you can try either:
Morfic's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078049
or Faux's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073626
They're both excellent kernels, Trinity (Morfic's kernel) has a known issue with rebooting, the phone will freeze every now and then when you try to reboot so you'd have to do a battery pull.
Faux's kernel doesn't have that issue, but, for me at lease, when trying to reboot into recovery it does a normal reboot instead.
As you might already know, the G2X has a somewhat crappy battery life, most people can't get more than 24-30 hours of battery life with the stock battery, and from what I read most of the custom batteries aren't as good as advertised, so your best bet is to use an under volted kernel and try to find some battery tweaks in the forums.
There's way too many themes to list here but basically, for CM7 roms you can look for themes in the market, and for MIUI themes you can use their themes app to find something suitable.
All credit goes to the devs for their hard, and much appreciated, work, don't forget to hit the thanks button where ever appropriate, and/or leave a thanks comment
A note on overclocking:
Please know that not all phones respond the same when overclocked. In other words, some phones can't handle the same overclock speed as other phones. And also note that overclocking sacrifices a bit of battery life to increase the performance, the extra juice has to come from somewhere. I suggest starting from the stock kernel of whichever rom you choose, see how your phone does on a stock, unmodded kernel. If you want a little more performance, then you can flash a custom one and slowly increase clock speed over time to see how your phone responds. If you want more battery life, then you should read up on UV (undervolting) settings in the custom kernel. The key is to try and find a nice combination of both so you can benefit great battery life and performance, but requires some tinkering and testing to get that right combination. Just something to note.
Phoenix Blood 1.7 with Faux123 048 kernel is the way to go. Do some reading on Google how to nvflash cwm and do a Android backup. Also titanium backup your applications and your golden.
Making bad decision's one at a time.

Thank you all for the fast response.
Now I have a question, are kernels used to acheive anything other than overclocking/undervolting? And are there any for 2.3.3 roms, if so which would you recommend?

Yes, your phone won't function without the kernel (obviously) and custom kernels are better than the stock one in that (in simple words) they improve performance and power consumption (kinda like drivers for computer parts).
I think the following would work for 2.3.3 roms, do a nandroid backup and try it, if it doesn't work just restore

I get better battery life on Eaglesblood 2.3.7 and Trinity ELP kernel (overclocked to 1.1GHz, normal is 1.0) than a stock based rom, like Weapon, will ever get. And on T15 kernel at 1.56 I can still get pretty damn good battery.

Cant seem to find the t15 kernel, not in the kernel list.
I run overclocked to 1.6 with a pretty aggressive undervolt. With the right profiles in setcpu I get better than stock battery and very very good performance.

Go to http://www.derkernel.com/ and look under current G2x kernels for 2.3.5 builds. There's ELPmax, T15max, and TD158. Don't flash any of these kernels if you're on a 2.3.3 rom though. Good luck

That is impressive but i would defiantly not recommend doing that if you are just starting... That can cause extreme instability...
If you want to undervolt start small and work your way up in increments making sure to not have the settings to "Apply on boot" that way if you get a crash (And you will until you find the sweet spot) you wont be stuck with your phone crashing over and over because the cpu/kernel is freaking out
And SetCPU is a great program for OC/UV for any rom
question i cant seem to quickly find about undervolting:
when undervolting in pimpmycpu (SetCPU crashes on me when I go to voltage settings for whatever reason) do you undervolt each setting? Like -50mv for 1.4GHz, -50mv for 1.2Ghz, -50mv for 1Ghz etc etc etc.. or just -50mv for the top (1.4Ghz) setting?
Oh, I'm on Faux's 048 kernel..

You only undervolt the clock speed you're using, you can do it for both min and max values, or just for one. But if you use multiple OC profiles, then you can UV every clock speed you're using.
Either way, UVing all clock speeds shouldn't cause any issues, but it wouldn't help much
I keep flashing and flashing kernels.
Air
Matrix
Steve Garon
Trinity
Franco
etc
etc
Does anyone use an older dated kernel of any of these on any ICS ROMS and have such stability and good battery life that they are unwilling to upgrade to anything else ?
If so, what is your combination and setup ?
Thanks
Griff

I'm quite happy with the stock CM9 kernel. What ROM are you using? Have you tried sticking with it's stock kernel? There's generally a reason the ROM dev chooses the kernel they do.
I have had good results with CM9's stock kernel and the Air kernel for ICS. I had instability with matr1x and trinity.
Im using franco's 1.1 and while it's very bare bones (no bln/bld/voodoo/oc etc) the kernel performs amazingly well and I couldn't be more pleased. I got tired of reboots with other kernels and haven't suffered even a single one yet.

I've recently flashed to an ICS rom, and I am now trying to figure out what the best kernel is to run with it (I'd really like to see one that maximizes battery life.) If you are running ICS, would you mind please posting what ROM you are using and what Kernel you have along with it. Also, take a second to explain the pros and cons of that Kernel so we may all make more informed decisions as we prepare to potentially flash one...
Thank you kindly!

Mr. Apocalypse uses Harsh's kernel for Genesis. Owain uses Harsh's kernel for his ICS build. x0xhellx0x uses Faux's kernel for Hellfire Sandwich. I think you can use those as starting point. I like Morfic's Trinity kernel because you can OC to 1560.

anyway some help please ...
what android version?
oops sorry... cm10.1
Try Marmite for smoothness and stability, or Trinity, but i'm not sure that your phone can handle it (no voltage settings!)..
Marmite is probably the best choice
Marmite is the way to go bro~
It is better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for what you are not
If you are looking for project butter, try some of the 4.1.2 ROMs. The 4.2 ROMs are still maturing and aren't that smooth on Nexus S.
Marmite latest version is a good kernel.

thalamus kernel is smooth and snappy, really stable, but less features
The majority of these forums seem to prefer marmite, but I only tried up to 7.1.3, before switching back to matr1x, so I couldn't tell you.
I really think it depends on the rom you are planning to run. Each kernel works/reacts differently with each rom. Usually if you read through the threads for a specific rom you can get a good indication of which kernel works best for it and which setting in each kernel give the best performance. JMHO

I personally prefer Marmite, it works really smooth on my Nexus S, especially when using Jellybean!
AW: [Q] best kernel for nexus s
As you can see everybody preferes a different kernel! I rly like matr1x!
I suggest you try out yourself wich one is best for you! Also try different settings! I use row io scheduler and smartass v2 governor...
i tried almost latest, stable, weekly and nightly roms (like jellyshot final, rbj, gamerz rom,cm10.1 stable, hellybean, slimbean, xenonhd, carbon, PA, thinking bridge, miui, avatar and jellybam
with the different cfs, bfs, vodoo, non vodoo, stable and weekly kernels (like air kernel, matr1x, trinity, devil kernel, marmite, zxenz kernel vta2 kernel) and the best kernel for me (crespo) is marmite 2nd to the best is devil kernel.. and marmite 8.7 bigmem is working best in any rom..
now im testing the thinking bridge latest rom with these kernels.. XD
Not really kernel related, but since I am running marmite v8.7 bigmem, I just ran quadrant & I've only gotten a score of 2046. Other scores were 2033 & 1991, idk how others seem to get such high scores. I've just recently pretty much started fresh due to my phone having problems, so I am in the process of restoring some of my backed up apps.
Quadrant is crap, run antutub instead.
