so i am trading a guy my iPhone 3GS for his Captivate. Tired of being Apples *****. So here i am, at least till the Samsung Infuse comes out.

I changed from apple also. I really like Android a load better!

I would never go back

i bought a perfect condition 3GS from a guy that bought the iPhone 4 the day it came out for 150 bucks and couldnt pass up that deal. Was using the Epix before that. The iPhone was a nice upgrade but I have never been an Apple fanboy. So it's newness wore off and I been wanting to go Android for a while but we all know ATT Android selection sucks. I was holding out because i thought they may have something i want by this time. I do want the Infuse, but i see that isnt going to be out till maybe May or June, so when this opportunity came up, i jumped on it. I already got my feet wet by playing with mods on my gf's HTC Hero, so once i get it, I am ready to rock n roll.
on another thought, i have been looking at the Serendipity and Cognition ROM, anybody who has tried them both? any thoughts on which one you like more and why? any input is greatly appreciated.

haven't tried serendipity. Cog is a great rom... but i keep going back to andromeda... by far the best rom out there right now imo.
phoenix is fantastic too.

I guess I'm samsung's ***** for 1.5 more years. Better than being apple's.

I have only flashed a rom twice now, and it was Cognition both times, (2.3B6 first time and most recently 3.04) I can tell you that Cog 3.04 is amazing! Its based on the Official Froyo release from Rogers (canadian carrier) but has been "americanized" and it's quite fast and very smooth. In case you haven't seen these, I followed the 3 part video tutorials for flashing your rom, from user "connexion2005". He is very detailed and really takes the time to walk you through the process. I am running Paragon and it runs great. I tried Cognition, but had to change the font back to stock and didn't like that it was missing Bluetooth voice dialing.

Last week I traded an iPhone 4 for a captivate. I got way tired of playing the little games trying to keep the jailbreak everytime a new update came out. I just did the phoenix ROM and it is pretty good.

Cognition is good if u want to stick with what samsung gave us to use.....all the garbage is remove for performance reasons....I've been using serendipity since it started and its my favorite.....its the closest thing to a stock android rom..... I like the color scheme and the fact that there's hardly any traces of touchwhiz. I alway put together my own custom parts though which is what's great about android...Im using hardcores kernel and the jk3 modem.....changed the battery icon ect....

From Captivate to Inspire

So after 4 days of persistence in calling AT&T Customer Care and Warranty, I am going to be a proud owner of an Inspire!
Had the Captivate since initial launch, plus 5 returns! They are doing a "one time only" make/model exchange through warranty.
I'm excited to say the least! I think the Captivate was a great device, just not reliable enough for me. I spent the last 6 months dealing with random shutdowns and frankly had enough!
Glad to see people are enjoying the phone!

You'll be joining a rather sizable club of ex-captivate users who made the jump over to this superior phone, me being one of them.
Cool that you got them to replace your captivate... I wasn't willing to suffer through three more replacement phones before even having a slight chance of getting them to swap... paid Off-contract, with no regrets.
Many of the captivate devs are over here now, which is awesome.

Going to have to fight the urge. I would like to get 2 days out of the stock rom just so I know how it runs. Sadly though, I dont' think it's going to happen. I already have all the rooting tools and a bunch of roms on my pc .

I was exaggerating a bit in my prior post.
You SHOULD, IMO, spend some time with your phone as is. In fact, I didn't root mine until near the end of my 30 days.
You want to "burn in" the phone, making sure everything works (no mfgr defects), first. You want to be able to distinguish between "not working right because I got a lemon" and "not working right because of a root/flash gone haywire."
Not to mention, it's more of a hassle (but indeed possible) to revert the phone to a warranty-returnable state should you discover a mfgr/production defect after you've rooted.
That point of reference of how the out-of-the-box phone behaves, stock quirks and all, is important.
I'm just now gearing up to flash my first custom ROM ever, and I got the phone on 03/02, so being patient for the sake of being better prepared is a good strategy.

A lot of my friends and family have been iPhone owners for the last few years, and I can finally say that my phone is the envy of my inner circle now. The Inspire has it all: beauty, brains, and brawn.

My phone arrived via UPS yesterday afternoon, and I set to rooting it as soon as it was fully charged. This was my first root, and the hardest part was making the Gold Card. I would recommend using the Gold Card walkthrough on theunlockr.com Website for the Gold Card. After you have that created, use Bubby's One Click (it REALLY works!). I'm sticking with rooted Stock ROM for now because I like all of the HTC stuff, but I wanted to use Titanium Backup to remove the ATT bloatware. Mission accomplished!

So att goofed and sent me the handset only accessories arrive tomorrow, so I should have a working inspire tomorrow night!

I literally folded my Crapsung Craptivate in half then tore it into two pieces on Monday night, got a call from my local AT&T store, and my Inspire is in stock, picking it up after work.
Then I'll use the awesome 8mp camera with LED flash to take a picture of the Crapsung Aggrevate and use it in the "How to fix the sh**ty samsung phones" guide I'm going to make.

I also jumped ship. I find the Inspire a far far far superior phone to the captivate.

For those of you that have one, can you please let me know what you think of it ? I guess it ends today so they can clear stock for the HTC sensation, but I dont think I'll be able to afford one of those, so this seems like a sweet deal.

I bet its the same deal they did with the g2, you have to make a new plan/new line of service with a web plan to get the special deal. They wouldn't even work with me on the phone over it.

Get this phone cause I'm telling you ya won't regret it. Ever since one of the devs(drhonk) got the phone to test on things are blowing up around here(I mean that in a good way ) we have cwm and a few roms and alot of Tweaks that are gonna make that sgs4g fly and all your friends are gonna be like "wtf, I wish my phone would perform like that". Lol. But yes I would definitely recommended it especially if its for free. I mean come on that's a deal.

Yes, it's an online only deal, but it seems pretty awesome.
I'm giving up on Verizon since my home area is a known trouble spot, and they're letting me out of my contract for free.
So come on, be honest, let me know all the pros and cons...battery life ? Camera good ? Is Video chat any good ? Is the 4G service good ?

There is no better phone, even for the 150-300 some could pay for it. I doubled my original speeds in one day just by grabbing the latest updates here. Trying to get my g/f to snag me another s4g for free during this deal for my daughter, its gonna be a family phone here, lol.

They had this deal about a month and a half back. This is how I ended up with the phone. I switched over from sprint and am loving every minute of it. Not too big on the unlimited data but only 2gb of high speed cap they have in place but its cool. There is a lot going on with this phone right now to make it really bad ass, hell it is a beast completely stock.

i've had the SGS4G for a little over a month and i love it, and its gotten better the past few weeks with all the roms and other dev stuff coming out for it. it's prob just as good as the HTC Sensation for the value since you'd be paying a lot more for the Sensation now. the specs are pretty equal i think, the only thing is that it doesnt have a notification LED and no camera flash/LED either, but thats not too big an issue so i dont mind as much now.

I have no complaints about the phone myself. I was sad about the internal storage but once you fota fix that problem is solved. As far as notification light - I use Bali kernel which has BLN support. My four buttons on the bottom light up whenever I have a notification. The ext4 mod makes my phone super snappy and responsive and I can't wait until we get voodoo on top of that.
My co-worker used the Sensation over the weekend and said it seems to have some odd connectivity issues when making phone calls/texts/using data. http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/HTC-SENSATION-4G/Sensation-4G-Data-Connectivity-Issues/td-p/875585 Every phone has it's flaws but I hope it isn't plagued by bugs like the G2X (which is an AWESOME phone but just needs a software update).
Don't get me wrong, The Sensation is a beast but I'm not a big fan of Sense UI. I prefer Go Launcher or Launcher Pro. Heck I'd even use the stock Gingerbread launcher over Sense. If you try to run an alternate launcher over Sense it seems to bog the phone down (at least on pre-dual core phones). This probably wont be a problem once they unlock the bootloader though.

Let the results speak for them selves I mean were literally blowing other phone out the water thanks to this community.

Sure. The kernel that bionix comes with has bln support. You need to download the bln app from the market. To make it work you need to push a file to /system/lib/hw. You can find a link to the post that has this file on the bali kernel's thread. It's the fix by chadster I believe.

The dInc also got Gingerbread 2 weeks ago, then the OTA was stopped due to some serious issues with it. Those dInc guys crack me up. It's just something about the whining about not getting Sense 3.0 with it and their insane belief that the dInc is best device ever constructed. I swear, if I read one more post where the writer says something like "Sadly, I got a dInc2 from Asurion as a warranty replacement instead of another AMOLED dInc" (like they got totally screwed in the deal!), I'm gonna find them and shove that phone up their piss hole.

I actually miss my dinc a lot. It's a great little phone. Great specs. Great dev support. Only thing keeping me from going back is 4G.

the Dinc is a nice phone but too small for me. the tbolt reminds me of my old evo4g, that's why i bought it. i think my next phone will be the htc vigor.

What killed the Dinc was that it didn't have enough memory to run sense. I have a Dinc & a TBolt and I have 270 mb free most of the time with the TBolt and only 70 -100 mb free on the Dinc. The Dinc has a stripped down sense rom and the TBolt rom has most everything.

Best phone every tell that to me who went through 6 Inc all for reasons that had nothing to do with Rooting or dropping the phone. The phone over heated on a few of them and fried the board. Some phone would reboot and wipe my phone clean for no reason. I did get to keep the last phone which my daughter has as a video game phone so she would keep her hands off my TB, and surprising it been a great game system/netflix for her anyways. But I would have loved to get upgraded to the new phone as a replacement it only happened to me one time but I was like HELL YEA, and that was back when it was a flip phone but I got a 3.2 MP camera.

The incredible was a good phone but the Tbolt definately has advantages over it. I wouldn't trade my Tbolt back for the Incredible but it definately was a good phone.

The radio from the 2.11 leak is freakin great. I know with the TB it seems different phones respond to different radios but I have seen more positive posts about the one from the 2.11 leak then any other radio. I got 15 hours of heavy heavy usage the other day after flashing a new ROM and that radio before I even changed all my settings to help optimize battery life. Plus my 4G hasn't cut out on me at all like it did sometimes before.

I smashed my ****ing phone because....

It kept re-****ing-setting and it was pissing me off!! I knew there was a reason I switched from CM7. Those random awesome resets. Its funny too cuz i was taking a dump when I smashed it on the floor. Hey I should have wiped my *** with the $130 I am going to be giving the insurance company instead of the toilet paper I used lol. So when my replacement comes in the mail, I will be using the stock rom!!
Im so angry I want to rip a baby in ****ing half!!

Why did you switch back to it then? Does it really cost that much with insurance? There's some shady looking repair shop in the mall I live near and the guy in there replaced my busted screen for $80

I switched back because miui was being a pain! And I guess I forgot CM7 randomly Reset. If I were to replace the digitizer I would order it from eBay for $40 and replace it myself. Its not just the digitizer though. It's also the LCD as well. So if I were to order and replace both the digi and LCD myself, it would come to around $100 smackeroos. Why not just pay the extra $30 and get a brand spanking new G2x? I've thrown it quite a few times.
Insurance is rediculous on this phone! $130 every time I replace it.

I could never throw anything that I spent $200 of my own hard earned money on. I treat this phone like aa newborn baby. There's a couple scuffs and a tiny scratch on the screen which was caused by me being stupid and taking my phone to the beach (yeah SAND was the only thing able to scratch the screen) and I feel terrible about those tiny things. I don't understand how you could just throw it. So baffling to me.

and ive been running the newest baseband and cm7 rc3 since it first dropped and ive yet to have a random restart... even if it did restart im pretty sure im not going to throw a 200 dollar object around until it broke and then spend another 100 or so to fix it and create a 300 dollar glorified stress ball for myself... have some self-control

Wow! Seeing that smashed g2x makes me cringe! So sad! Well for me I've tried a ton of roms. Hellfires ics and gb roms and eagles blood. I'm supprised people are using even cm7 rc3 extra when Bluetooth calling doesn't even work correctly and speakerphone volume is so quiet. All roms except the stock rom 2.3.4 are broken since the March 2012 bb update. Kinda upset that no one has been able to fix this critical dealbreaker problem.

I has the old BB. Hopefully the new phone doesn't have the new BB!

You are lucky my friend. I wish I could find a way to revert to the old BB. It's keeping me from enjoying/wanting to install these awesome roms.

I bought it when it first came out that's probably why. When I ordered the replacement, it came with the old BB. You could call that luck!
Hopefully the new phone comes with the old BB. Now that would be what I would call lucky!

If you look in owains rom thread there is now a fix in the op so you can use the old rom's with the new bb all in one simple flashable fix
