[Q] Best ICS Rom for G2X? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I have been running the HFS rom since v1, and for the most part it's been very nice. However, I was saddened to learn today that the dev will not be working on the g2x anymore. I know there are a few other ICS roms available, but I do not know a whole lot about them as I've mostly been in the HFS forum. If this dev does in fact leave, which ROM would you recommend for replacement (ICS only plz) and why? (highlights and lowlights to be aware of??)
Thanks!! (hopefully this information will help out a lot of people)

I could be wrong but didn't the HellFire ROMs come from the Phoenix Blood ROMs? If they did then they took queues from EaglesBlood. That would be the one I would recommend. I am currently on a Gingerbread MIUI ROM but anytime I want to used a CM based ROM I always go with EaglesBlood because it has always seemed really stable and gets good battery life. The dev also is quick to respond and does his best to fix any problems. Just as an FYI there are 2 versions of EaglesBlood ICS:
This one is based off of the AOSP source code Here
This one is based off of the CyanogenMod CM9 source Here
Hope this helps!

I doubt hell is going to end his rom. All the cm9 based ROMs are about the same. AOKP is pretty nice. I like the clean and bare bones AOSP thing that eagle's blood has going on. Really these are just toys for now tho.

i have been using eaglesblood build 3 however the camera doesnt work... wehre can i get Owain's CM9 KANG? any recommendations for a daily rom?

I'm a faithful user of Owain's ICS builds. I've had issues, but nothing I couldn't live with.

I don't know where you heard that hell is not working on the g2x. He's still putting out updates consistently and it has been getting a lot better, we're getting linaro next build!

i've used pretty much all the ICS roms on here and by far the best have been Genesis and HFS

I'm not sure if I like Domination or HFS better because I haven't used HFS since 1.7 and I've been on Domination for quite sometime now. I'll be on HFS once the next update comes out. HFS has always been a favorite of mine, but Owain's ROM tempted me over and I've been on it since.
Genesis is really cool, but I prefer the CM9 power widget over the AOKP one.
I actually haven't tried EB since build 1. Maybe if I get bored, I'll switch to it again sometime, but I'm pretty happy with Domination and HFS.

In my opinion you just have to use some roms and find which fits your feel the best. I've went through maybe 3-4 ICS roms before finally sticking with ASOP 4.0.4 EaglesBlood for the (in my opinion) battery life and performance.

My phone loves Domination by Owain94, all others seem to not agree with mine so just try all of them and see what she likes

I agree. I tried HFS and it was really laggy on my phone. Performance wise eagles blood was much better.

[Q] Fav Rom in your opinion

So i am currently running eagles blood and love it, super smooth, love the black. Havnt found any other glitches yet. Props to creator. What are some other good roms our there
Before the g2x I had a vibrant and ONLY ran Team Whiskey built ROM's because they were always the quickest and most reliable. When I first got my g2x I saw krylon running around the g2x forums and was very excited to see what he will do. My wife is STILL running Bionix on my old vibrant and I am also running Bionix on the g2x. Battery is a lot better, black theme is very nice, phone is super snappy, and I have NO problems with Bionix.
I have tried pretty much all the gb rom's out there and fauxs aosp 1.1.5 gb rom has been the most stable and smooth build I've used... with his custom kernel the thing is buttery smooth and fast with an oc of 1.5ghz if you want it super fast ... plus its a nice stock gb build with no extra stuff which I prefer ...
right now I'm running Bionix.
It's hard to say anything about one being better/worse than another right now, since they're all still in beta form. Let's get some final releases out, or at least an official gingerbread leak to compare against, before judging anything too harshly. And I'm not trying to say they should rush...just that we should expect some glitches
Here is my opinion.
None is better then the other for the fact that they are all built off the same source. If you look at the change logs for all roms right now it is mostly visual things changed with few backend things. (minus cm7 as they built their own)
Anyways give the devs more time to get more actual development done then compare them.
Stock Rom because it's more stable than any of the custom roms at this point. Every thread I've been reading people are having a lot of issues that's why I haven't flashed yet. Waiting for stable build from official source

Not quite true.
stock has almost all the issues and more then most the modded roms.
The reason you see more people complain about the issues on the modded roms is cause ALOT more people are using them over stock as it is junk.
EB1.04 Froyo. Used with included kernel and just a couple of tweaks here and there. Better than stock, LG camera, no GB issues. I get great battery life and speed with it. I'm not looking for a Quadrant record holder...just something that does what I want it to do when asked.
Now for the moderator in me:
These types of threads have the potential to invite flame wars. Keep this thread civil and helpful so it remains open. Thank your for your cooperation.
I've tried a lot of roms but settled with EB 1.0.4 because it feels like a stock rom but without the resets I kept having the with leaked version. The GB keyboard lags some but its nothing.
CM7 is really coming around but I'm going to hold off until they fix the APN settings. I've used CM since the first nightly and started looking elsewhere after #21. I'm looking to just relax with a working rom ATM.
As far as the various roms, they aren't all based on the same source. CM uses a CM base and their own kernel, EB uses the GB leak, and a few others are from AOSP directly from Google. Lots of variation. I agree that we should wait till we get some final builds until we compare but I think this thread is good for people to know because I've been using CM since it came out and when it came time to find something more stable I couldn't find which ones worked or which ones had which bugs.

I'm a Team Whiskey fan coming from the Vibrant so Bionix is my first choice, But Eagle's Blood 1.0.4 FR is also really good and in fact I'm running right now because it's still 2.2 so it has stock camera which is great!
Once Krylon gets the camera working on 2.3 I will go back to Bionix!
Haven't tried any others because of the APN issues!

No issues on Bionix.
I've played with all roms.
Latest was Bionix. It suffered some miserable battery drain with this rom. I gave it a few days play, with plenty of idle and game time. I'll say it is very snappy, however I couldn't accept going from 100-under 50 overnight idle while I slept.
Great rom and I will try again.
I'm gonna try EagleBlood 1.04 here in a few minutes, as it's gotten some decent mentions throughout the forums.
oh and btw, faux's aosp 1.1.5 got rid of any lag on the keyboard which i think no other rom has been able to fix on a gb rom

I wish they had a froyo version, cause I hate the jerky browser in gingerbread....
yea man i gotta say def eb 1.04 froyo is what is best rite now ive tried all of them and dont get me wrong bionix is the **** and faux did get rid of the keyboard lag and thats a big thing with these tgingerbread roms for some reason but yes all great roms but eb froyo 1.04 is sick got this extra keyboard by lg which i love and the stock cam also butter smooth but when running a oc kernel im having problems with my phone being on charger and it dying and not turning back on n having to do a battery pull so im just keeping it stock and love it still very fast!
The best ROM for me has been EB Froyo 1.04 and Morfic kernel is running great.
I have flashed nightlies, bionix, GB leak, and eb 1.02 and 1.04.
EB Froyo seems to be the most stable and just works for me.

I'm using the stock kernel. I tried the first morfic kernel for the build, and it was very unstable for me. Planning on giving the +48mb version a shot in the future, but stock works so well for me (speed+battery life), it'll be hard to justify a switch.

differences between ics roms

are there any noticeable differences between the hell fire sandwich and eaglesblood rom
Nope
Very minor tweaks like Conf, init.d, or build.prop but never notice much diff between then. Kernels give you more difference but even then it's not much
I've tried them both out for myself and out of both I'd say go with Eaglesblood. The battery life seems much better than Hellfire Sandwich and it's the smoothest of all ICS ROMs I've tried so far. But other than that, they're all ICS 4.0.3 so there's not that big a difference otherwise.
just try a few out, make a backup in CWM and start flashing away
test em out for a while, read at least the 5 last pages in each thread to find common issues, and decide for yourself
The only one that's REALLY different is probably AOKP. It's much more customizable than CM9.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I've used both for over a week each and my phone definitely likes EB better. Both are very good smooth builds, but EB with Faux kernel worked best on my G2x out of all ICS ROM+Kernel combos. But like Klathmon said, try em all. Thats more fun than asking.

I'm gonna have to second this one, if you guys haven't tried it, sit down and mess with it for an hour or so.
I can honestly say that I will start choosing my new phones based on what they support... Its really that different!
The latest AOKP build is version 4.0.4 and it seems noticeably smoother. It seems to work better with Trinity also, in my experience anyway.

Where did you manage to find Trinity for CM9? I can only find it for CM7
in the site.
Pretty sure they are all very similar beside battery performance, like the poster above said, EB has better battery performance.
btw, I decided to go to several different cell phone stores and check out the real ICS galaxy nexus right, and you know what? IT IS ACTUALLY CHOPPY!!!!!
They dont even have widgets on the homescreen, and it is still choppy for some reason......their default launcher suck dicks basically.
Also, I downloaded antutu on their phones too, and guess what, the score on stock rom stock voltage ics 4.0.3, stock launcher everything stock, is only on par with my stock [email protected] running EB ICS....I am starting to wonder why in the **** their stock roms are so damn slow when we didnt even have a complete source from cm9....
ok i am done ranting, sorry about that lol.

Flash away, friend.

[Q] Of all the ICS roms available, what are the popular ones with users on here?

Ok, so I've rad the skyICS rom installed for a while and it functions fine. Bugs here and there. Anyways I want to start fresh on an actual ICS rom, but not following the forums for at least a month I am overwhelmed with all the ones available.
Basically all I need is a stable rom with good battery life. If you can point me at ones you think have good battery life I can go from there. Just looking for a little direction.
mhx superlite is really popular, he's a good dev, as well as seancreamz ics - the real thing 4.1 alpha 3. Can't forget team perfection with appdroid and wali01x, my personal fav
I use smooth ice since it has the most complete asop them.

I'm on superlite... but when clicking on some functions it FCs (like the button to the left of the green phone button in the dialer). I wonder if this is a defect of the leak itself.
What makes wali01x your favorite? May I ask, since it seems you have tried all of these, what are the main differences?
Thanks!

fcs indicate improper flash. wali01x is not my fav, the rom is. but if u do happen to read this i still luv u wali! (no homo). Read each rom description for the differences, most are subtle, and if they are of priority to u, most users end up leaning a certain way

I like two roms
Super lite by mhx
SKy ICS by saenz
My favorite is
Sky ICS (New one, not GB), which is built from ICS leak.
sky ice if you follow directions well (IF YOU DONT)
ice super lite (more easy simplle)
following directions sky ice simple as can be no issues and im retarded at times and i managed
def Sky ICS from Seanzscreams. Updates are huge improvements. Couple bugs here and there but overall solid and fast.
I just installed nexusmod ICS zero today its running smoothly and the interface is quite nice.
yeah Seanzscreams's roms are pretty popular I would say.
Seanzscreams ROM's have always been rock solid for me. Buttery smooth, great battery life and the customizations are endless. You can really make it your own. It acts as my nandroid when I want to try out new stuff.
NexusMod ICS Zero for me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
NexusMod ICS Zero is where it's at! Been running the Beta 7 for several days and it is smooth as silk, beautiful and amazing battery life compared to stock.
I am now getting about 32 hours with moderate use. I was lucky if I had 6 hours on the I727 stock Rom!
Do yourself a favour and test it out! You WILL NOT be disappointed!
I've been running sky ics ucld2 build since it came out. It has great battery life and has a lot of options and will make a flash junkie out of you if you aren't already. But I was using mod1441's nexusmod gb before ics leaked and found it suitably stable and I trust his ics rom is just as satisfying. I'd say if you're down for messing around a lot and seeing what you can get your skyrocket to do (which may require a few broken eggs here and there but some really good f'ing omelets) then try sky ics. But keep current with the thread because people are finding new stuff to mess with every day. I've not used the latest nexusmod so I really have no ground to call it "the more conservative choice" but I'd imagine that's the way to go if you want a very nice stable quality rom that is more or less worry free. I've also heard nice things of embryo and alien has it's own very devoted following.

Alien is always a good bet. It all depends on what you are looking for. A ROM like Sky ICS offers heavier theming and add-ons while a ROM like Alien offers a solid and dependable optimized Base with a few upgrades and extras.

Stable ICS rom?

Its there a stable, clean ics rom for the g2x? Nothing themed and all that just stock style?
I've been using AOKP for a while now and have no complaints. It looks stock-ish.
They're all pretty stable and they're all pretty much clean until you start customizing stuff. EB is probably the most "clean," though. I don't remember it offering much, if any, options for customization. I'm currently a big fan of HFS, clean not dirty.

Well...
I've been using the EaglesBlood ICS ROM and I like that one a lot. The creator said it was supposed to be close to stock but has a few extra features for better performance. There's also supposed to be an update to 4.0.4 today, and I've heard people say that the pre-release is very smooth and snappy. I would wait for the full release though, apparently the pre-release doesn't have working wifi... I would say get the 4.0.3 version until he comes out with the next.
But keep in mind that all ICS ROMs are still not completely stable and you will find some problems. I just find EaglesBlood to work well and HellFire is good too.
As I think you could probably find this out for yourself, by flashing them and creating backups like everyone else around here did, my choice is AOKP.
There's really no way to tell on your phone, though, as each phone is different. However, AOKP Milestone 5 is stable and amazing, with the stock kernel.
Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP
Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP is clean and awesome. The only issue I've run into is some WiFi calling glitches.
Minimal customization and code straight from Google.
Another Eaglesblood 4.0.4 ASOP user here and its worked well for me thus far. If you read through the threads for the different ROM's you'll find their users having similar experiences.
There are some known drawbacks to ICS on the G2x and thats more an LG issue that the Dev's here.
Backup your phone, then try them all out and pick your favorite. Worse case, you roll back to what you have now.
im currently running aokp milestone 5 and ive enjoyed it very much. havent tried out any other custom roms, but the control and customizations you get with aokp makes it a nice rom to try out. flashing process is pretty easy too
it's stable with a few known and documented bugs

ics vs gingerbread?

hey, i have been running an ics rom for a while. Its been super laggy and i havnt had time to flash a new one. My reason for making this post is to ask whether or not the ics roms are stable and fast, or should i just use cm7 if im looking for a fast rom with great features. thankyou in advance.
There are different builds of ICS, like nightly and AOKP. You just gotta try and the different ones and see which ones you like best. Changing ROMs is all about preferences and what you feel comfortable with.

After using Slim for the past few months, I would not go back to a non-ICS ROM (this ROM will probably influence my choice of the next phone I buy, i.e. I will make sure it's available on that device).
While I agree the SlimICS is very quick and runs fairly smoothly, it does lack in other departments. In order to have a slimmer and smother build they had to cut certain things. The main thing I noticed is not all languages are supported.
SlimICS has been the best experience of the ICS roms, or any rom for me. It's very fast, stable, and feature packed. I've had zero problems through the two different builds I've been using for the last week. I highly recommend it.

Thanks guys. I'm currently running cm7 again. But it sounds like I should definitely try the slim rom.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
SlimICS is definitely worth the time investment to get it installed and running. I came from Cognition 4.5.x and my phone is running better than it ever has using any previous ROM I've tried (and I tried a lot of them!). Granted, my IMEI paid the ultimate price for using all those different ROMs (EFS folder wiped/corrupted), but I'll have that sorted out soon enough with any luck.
Can't say enough about Slim though, granted I didn't care for the Lightening launcher that's included. I am using the standard ICS launcher, which works fine and is plenty fast for me.
SlimICS or Nostalgia (SlimICS based) - runs faster than S3.
But I'm rooting my S3. So boajuicing comes...
Give AOKP a shot. I'm running it and love it.
Sent from my SGH-I897
I find that the CM9 ROM I use isn't always the fastest but the features pretty much balance it out when compared with Gingerbread.
ICS is fast and sleek, but I'll choose GB KK4 for the meantime until they fix the unsuccessful encryption bug on ICS. Still waiting though :silly:
I've never liked GB but then again, I didn't give it that much of a chance. I was extremely satisfied with di11igaf's Rom [2.2.1] on my Captivate, flashed to stock GB, then flashed immediately back.
Currently running TiramiSlim RC 2.0 [Based on SlimICS 3.9] after being somewhat of a crazy flash-aholic as far as ICS Roms are concerned. It is super-fast & extremely smooth.
