[Q] FM Transmitter? A good one that works well? - Epic 4G Accessories

So I bought an FM Transmitter for a co-worker, looked simple, had a review or two on it, but when it got here, it sucked. Sounded distant, had a large echo, and also sounded like the left or right side wasn't being heard? We attempted almost every empty fm station you could think of to shun interference as a factor. No dice. If any of you have purchased one that doesn't suck i'd like to know about it.

I purchased this last year and it has the best FM transmitting quality i've heard. The rest suck. This is advertised as bluetooth, but has an aux input so you can plug in via your headphone jack

Does that have battery power? I have two FM transmitters, one that costs like $2 and is a strange no name Chinese one that works great but only on a few commonly used frequencies at the end of the spectrum. I have a Belkin one that lets me transmit on any frequency but is only usable less than an inch from the antenna. I might want to purchase this but the battery aspect would be a deal breaker.

Yeah and I didn't see anything about battery power on it. I carry mine with me since they have batteries.

The transmitting power on this item is really strong and clean, unless your antenna is really broken, it will pick up the signal. The battery powered ones are total trash compared to this, since it draws its power from the car itself.

Some times happen Like this. Because Sound problem are depend on manufacturing. Due to this reason signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and frequency response become less or more,Because in manufacturing company used different type's of materials. If we used P-Type silicon materials then it's create sound problem, I hope you understand. Thanks

If you can though, it would be better seeing if you can add Aux support to your headunit.

that is like asking him to buy a new head unit
Not really... Aux can easily be added to some (and I had NO car experience, and discovered it was easier than I thought with my car to wire in a new headunit). Head units cost a ridiculous amount of money for what they are.
Sometimes if you are willing to try to do the work yourself, you will find that adding aux support costs less than some good FM transmitters.
Cheers guys _ going to search net based on yours ideas and update with my choice when purchased and tested.
Over and out.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this. Although the difference between good and bad fm transmitters is unknown to me, you can get workable ones for under 5 bucks on amazon without shipping.
Even assuming anything that price never works, you can pick up a bluetooth speakerphone/fm transmitter for like 30-40. To me, that beats the hell out of taking wire strippers to your car stereo. Especially since you can take an fm transmitter with you when you are in someone elses car at no extra cost.
My preferred fm transmitter is a Jabra SP700. The trick is finding a clear channel, and if you travel more than an hour in any direction, be prepared to retune as you run into new stations. Normally you'll be able to find a frequency that's clean for their daily use. I found that having my SP stock to the dash instead of to the sun visor greatly increased sound quality and reduced interface, so if you cant get perfect reception, try that.
I get near CD quality, although there is some fuzz on the very end (high cymbals hiss rather than crash).
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Protip: You rarely need wire cutters or strippers. I'd be surprised if any cars didn't use a wire harness which allowed you to simply connect the module in between (unless the person who installed your stereo is an idiot, or its a poorly designed unmaintainable car). Many simply connect through the CD stacker jack.
FM tuners work, but, every new car I've seen these days ships with an aux jack anyway. So it's a better option long term, if it's possible. An FM tuner can be easier to install though, if you don't want to learn anything. But messing with the head-unit of your car is something every guy should do once in their life
I bought this one from play.com for only £3 (although its gone up to £4 now).
edit: cant post links but if you type in Wireless FM Stereo MP3 / Ipod Transmitter you should find it.
It works well, the battery life is great. the quality is not perfect but definitely listen-able. (looses some bass).
as a budget transmitter it definitly gets my approval and you don't have to wait weeks for delivery like dealextreme.

But there is a few out there, I would read up on them. Use ebay for a better price.

I love the Blackberry Audio Gateway. All it does is receive stereo BT, nothing else, and outputs it into the AUX jack in the car stereo. It powers up and down through the cig lighter and car battery, pairs in seconds virtually every time. Only thing I can maybe fault it for is being overly bass-heavy. And it's fairly inexpensive.
Edit:
here's the link to the Amazon page and the reviews at the bottom. seems legit to me.

Apparently the link i gave initially turned out to be a bug in buy.com 's system.

for a decent but inexpensive radio, I have the Clarion CZ-500 in my truck.
It does bluetooth hands free calling as well as A2DP profile for audio. If you use an app like Vlingo on your phone, then you can text hands free as well
There are lots of radios to choose from that support A2DP. I'm suggesting one that I use all the time. There are many others. You can pick up a refurb on ebay for less than $100 I would imagine.
It also has a lengthy USB cord (that my daughter uses ) to plug her iPod touch into and the radio will control the ipod's music player. The USB will not charge the Epic though FWIW.
Hope this helps

Stay away from wireless FM. Go inline with the antenna. All wireless is crap. Haven't looked into it, but if you have an input of some sort for a cd changer or xm, there is probably an aux unit that can take advantage of it with a true line in and much better SQ than FM will give.

The headset is definitely worth the money. Audio quality is good, no distortion even at high volume, and this thing is LOUD. Best bluetooth headset out there. Be sure to get the HBS-700 and not the 730

I like it and I would recommend it.
Unlike typical behind the ear design, I can put one ear bud on while working. It's very light, and can be tucked under the neck of my shirt. Sometimes I even forget I have it on... Also like that the ear buds got held in place by magnet when not in use, kind of cool.
Sound quality... I am not an audiophile so it's good enough for my use, can't tell the difference anyway.

If you look at the reviews, you will see that the range has significantly decreased with the 730. It seems to cut off whenever you walk away from the device. With the 700, I can be like 40ft away with no issues. It's also cheaper, and doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade.

I'm a very active person, and I pretty much ALWAYS have these headphones around my neck. I love running with them, especially since they're water-resistant, so sweat isn't an issue. The only thing which is weird is when you're trying to bench with them on. They don't do to well when you're lying flat on your back. It's manageable though.
These headphones isolate sound very well. I sometimes can't even hear cars honking at me while I'm running.

(Headphones) Good finding that I want to share with you...

Yep, as the title says, I found a good pair of headphones with mic that you may like, it's nothing new, but nothing that I could find in the Nexus 4 forum either...
Here it is! "Sony MDR-ZX300AP/L" made specifically for Android phones (according to Sony's website).
Weird side note: they are OMTP (according to Sony chat representative), and AFAIK, Nexus 4 is CTIA, so I decided to grab a CTIA<-->OMTP adapter, which only inverts the 2 cables that differ from CTIA/OMTP, funny thing is, when I connected the headphones with the adapter, they worked perfectly (also tested the mic), then I decided to give it a try without the adapter... guess what... they worked too (plus mic)! WTF they were not supposed to work....
Anyway, I decided to share this finding to you, I have to specify that mine is the latest revision (AFAIK) from Nexus 4 *White*, so I'm totally clueless if they changed something in the hardware to make them compatible with both CTIA/OMTP...
I also paired the headphones with a computer adapter, so now I have a computer headset (mic works too!) "StarTech MUYHSFMM 3.5mm 4 Pin to 2x3 Pin 3.5mm Headset Splitter Adapter - F/M"
Final notes, mic quality is 4 out of 5, not the best, not bad, there are other color(s) available, definitely sturdy and yet comfortable pair of headphones, build quality totally explains the price (it can be either good or bad, depends of your point of view, very good IMHO)...

You can consider yourself an audiophile if you start spending more than $100dlls on headsets/accessories to listen music... I'm not saying it is negative!, just pointing out that there is certain price threshold where people with an educated ear need something better than the average $30-$50 headsets... (audiophiles )
For mere mortals such as me... this headset is very good, I'm still able to distinguish a weak spot in a range of frequency but I'm ok with that, bass is also a little weak for my taste but there is no microphone version of the XtraBass variant of this headset...
Talking about headsets, it surprised me to find out how other people prefer/user other more expensive headphones in their cellphones, poor DAC cannot even power such a high impedance! they need a FiOS amplifier to power them up... gosh... talking about obsessions...
There is a good reason of why many headsets/headphones have weak spots or poor bass, and this is obviously because they were designed to power up from weak sources (such as your cellphone's DAC), of course newer cellphones have improved a lot in this department allowing users to throw higher balls on the park (S4 by example)...

LOL, I am no audiophile. I just like my music to be clear and hit bass nice and crisp. But I do have the V-Moda M100's in my collection lol. I use that on my N4 mostly, but I use the M100s on my N7 and laptop at home.
When I want in ears, my go to ones used to be the Sol Republic Amps HD. Great headphones for the price and are tangle free. I just got some Munitio NINES 9mm in ears and the bass just blows me away. I am not a bass heavy listener, so I had to lower the volume on a lot of my devices lol. I gave my wife the Shure SE215 clears for a flight recently and she thanked me because she needed them when on a flight where there were a bunch of minors on a flight without parents and of course were loud. The lady next to her asked if how she could deal with all the noise and my wife said...what noise? I had my headsets in. They were clear so you can hardly see them if you aren't looking so that is a plus lol.
Bottom line, there are lower end headphones like the google ones, or sony ones that do the deed well on its own. I am not saying they shouldn't be used, far be it. I say try it and if you are happy, then that's all that matters right?

[Q] Earphone recommendations?

Since my vz note 4 didn't come with earphones, can someone recommend me some decent earphones (in black if possible) that has compatible mic and vol controls? I'm not an audiophile, so I'm not looking to spend a lot. Whatever that doesn't break down quick and has good audio for music/podcasts. Also, does anyone know the model number of the earphones that came with the note 4 for other carriers? Thanks.

I love these, you can't beat the value for there price of 20 bucks and they are 400% better then the included Samsung headset. Without the silicone the Samsung OEM are a little bigger (in picture white is Samsung) but for me they fit much more comfortable then the Samsung. Oh and as with most earpieces it comes with 3 sizes of silicone earpieces small, medium and large. I just looked up my invoice, I paid 20 euro for them here in the Netherlands, not 20 USD, so prolly you will by able to find them for 30 USD

I am currently using the earphones that came with the gs3 and none of the different earpieces fit me properly. Every time I moved my head, they would fall out. I am using different adapters and was hoping they would fit on the MM30G. If there isn't that much of a size difference, I think they might work. Yeah, I was going to ask where you got it for 20 cause I can't find them for that price. Closest I can find is like almost $60usd. Appreciate the quick replies, man. If I can find them for around $30, I just might get them. I will still look for some different earphones til then.

Damn, with the exchange rate, it would've came out to about $26, but amazon.ca wouldn't let me ship those to my address. Thanks though.

Thanks, I'll look into them. If you took out the silicone pieces, are the parts where the audio come out the same dimensions as the oem Samsung earphones?
I'm coming from the gs3 earphones and heard the recent earphones are better so I thought I'd try them out. Thanks for your suggestions, but I am not looking for anything BT or over the ear type devices.

The build quality is better but the sound quality is not good. I started to use them first because they look ok and I was expecting them to be better but when I put on the backbeat fit for a workout I just understood how bad the sound is on the included earphones and how much of the music is lost. I am not an audiophile but I can notice obvious differences. And this is compared with bluetooth headphones which supposedly do not have as good sound as wired headphones.

Ohh...I guess I can ignore the newer OEM earphones then. I always wanted a wireless headset cause the cords always get caught on something. Only thing stopping me is that I just know I'll forget to charge them up. Do the bluetooth headphones eat a lot of the phone's battery?

Do you know if these headphones have different length wires for each ear? So you can put one of them behind your head. I recently got some popular Chinese ones that were recommended here. They sound great, but I really miss the behind the head wire feature.

I use mostly bluetooth headphones and I do not see it impacting the battery a lot but overall I am not so happy with the battery life of om Note 4 (910C model). Maybe because I have skype, lync, good and other stuff running all the time...
I also use the sennheiser mm30g... Only thing with them if you listening to music on full volume you need good quality audio, using Spotify definitely notice the difference between different audio bit rates... Also they have a great mic as I use it a lot and stock Samsung ones are junk imo for voice calls
I have these and love them.

Jay birds are one of my favorites
You could try the Etymotic MC2 and HF2 models, which are made to be compatible with controlling Android phones. They have them at Etymotic website but also on Amazon.
Will give you a heads up that while these are nice my experience is that, for heavy users who dont baby these things and keep them a bag and all that, they get beat up after a while - the cords fray. But the sound is pretty good.
The jaybird bluebuds x are hands down the best earbuds I have ever used. Absolutely love them.

Yeah, I just got them and really like them too. I bought them from Amazon but interestingly, this showed up on the Amazon site page for these in the last day or two:
------
Item Under Review
While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)
We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the late suggestions, but I ended up getting the sennheiser mm30g because that was suggested the most. I might look into the jaybirds in the future, but they are too expensive at the moment.
