Seems like everyone has abandoned any idea of using SetCPU on a custom ROM. I'm currently running Glitterballs's 1.2 GHz OC/UV kernel, and it seems to be working perfectly. I'm going to update the op with how it works through the day. I currently have a screenoff profile set and a screenon profile set, with no issues. Feel free to try it yourself, however I wouldn't try it on any kernel besides Glitterballs's just yet until I do more testing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419.
I just installed SetCPU and it looks like it's working very well so far!
SetCPU crashed my phone when I put it to sleep... just use OC/UV to do your OCing.. no need to use setCPU.
YMMV, but I've been using SetCPU with every OC/UV kernel I've ever tried. I don't use any of the "profile" features, but I do use it to control the CPU speed and keep track of "time_in_state" stats and a few other things.
That includes SetiroN's kernel, Unhelpful's 2.1 kernel, and Glitterball's kernel. I even sometimes use it on non-OC kernels just to change the CPU power scheduler, like to force a specific speed.
Again, might be different for others, but in my experience, there's nothing wrong with SetCPU.
I'm using the 2.2 rom Froyo Dexter. But so it could not do overclocking. When I use it setcpu a maximum of 720MHz and overclocked it up to the Milestone save the settings, but not active.
There's something I'm doing wrong? How do I run the overclock? I appreciate the help.
You need to download Milestone Overclock from the market. Install it, load module and set it. Good starter is 1000/66. Then open SetCPU and you can use that to save profiles to over/underclock depending on task. SetCPU alone will only overclock to you roms highest frequency. You need MSOC to push it past that point. Hence the "over".
And im loving it. So much better than the stock ROM of the sensation z710e out of the box
Media player is better, i love the way the songs and albums expand so you can see what your looking for
Tho in the about phone section the cpu is still at 1.2ghz, i thought it was upped to 1.5ghz or am i mistaken?
Any ideas?
bumpity bump...
I think you have to look in Daemon controller for actual CPU speed set. I assume what you see is the hard coded default of the stock ROM.

This can be changed by adjusting the value in build prop using root explorer or similar.
system/build prop long press build prop and select open in text editor somewhere towards the bottom. Reboot and voila
This value can be changed to any value you like but doesn't reflect the actual value which can be ascertained using system tuner or similar.
aha!
So are you saying that it in the about phone section that it will still show up as 1.2ghz even tho its speed is 1.5?

Thanks
But..excuse me?
That's because ARHD v4 is the stock sensation ROM. If you flash the v3 one i.e. the Sensation XE one, it will show 1.5 ghz on the settings screen. Though you can always manually overclock the clock speed using apps like SetCPU. But then I guess it would be showing 1.2 ghz although the CPU clock is at a max speed of 1.5 Ghz due to the flashing of Sensation ROM which is presumed to be in the settings
Although I love Instigator's Kernel, I believe that it is time to move on from the aging kernel code.
I have started to use the stock kernel with the Paranoid Android by gs2usr, but I wanted more options to my cpu usage so I got set cpu.
Now my question is, will set cpu interfere with the performance settings originally in CM10? I have set the setcpu governor to the same gorvernor in the performance settings. The addition I have is the profile at certain battery points. Did anyone experience anything that caused the app and the CM10 settings to interfere each other causing even more waste in battery?? (like putting teo anivirus software on one computer? )

Best option is to stick to the performance setting built into Cm10 because it's had all the correct paths on how to adjust the kernel properly .
I don't use set CPU anymore I now use system.tuner pro as an alternate that's it

From what I've been reading the performance module in cm10/aokp is still a bit iffy, but I do agree with the system tuner pro recommendations
This may be sort of a noobish question but I was curious if using multiple apps for controlling kernel settings, in my case I am using both FKU & Trickster mod. I have the latest version of Franco's kernel flash (r32). I use both cause trickster has some options that FKU doesn't but I really like FKU's intergtayiong with system monitor and some of the kernel settings it has that trickster doesn't. I make sure that the settings for CPU min/max freq, volt, governor, IO schedule etc etc are set the to the same specs on each one. So is this OK to do, or will it cause issues with the kernel itself and/or my settings

What options does trickster have that franco doesn't?

Hi,
Should not have issues as long as you are sure that you have the same settings on both apps, like you do. For example don't set a different i/o scheduler or a different CPU governor in the two apps or it may conflict...
If you use mainly FKU, set it like you want then use TRickster Mod for the setting you want, no need to re-set the same settings in both apps (I don't know if I'm clear here ).
For example setup your CPU setting in FKU, let the CPU settings in Trickster Mod no need to re-apply them, it will just read the CPU settings from FKU...
Stuff like headphone volume boost which is good for me cause I am a active guitarist in a progressive metal band and am going deaf from playing shows lol
There's a few others. And a couple of the settings that they share I like better on trickster then fku and visa versa. By that i mean the way they allow you to change them is different on the two apps and I like the method better on one of them more so then the other sometimes. I'm weird like that I guess haha

I get what u mean. That's generally how I do it. But some settings dont seem to translate. Like voltage. I dropped the stock voltage by 25 In fku and dropped the max cpu freq a bit and the CPU freq translated over but the voltage setting didn't. So I had to change that manually.

When you use 2 apps, sometimes you change the settings in one and the other writes the settings back and they don't translate. I use 2 apps myself. Voltage is fine as it is only available in one of my apps, but governors are available in both ans although sometimes it translates, otehr times it overwrites so I have to manually change the values in both apps to ensure it sticks.

That happens with me sometimes too. So far so good tho. I had to manually change voltages tho like I said. The CPU freq translated over tho as well as governor and IO Scheduler.

Hi, I have a question, I've installed Trickster mod (donate) but I don't have many features such as screen settings and voltage settings, how can I unlock them?
Many thanks!

I use the free version and I have the Voltage settings, so I am not sure why they are not showing up for you, especially since you are using the Donate version. You can always try out FKU, I have the paid version of that app, and it's great. Now that I have found settings I didn't know were on FKU, I only use that one. Not to say Trickster isn't great, cause it is, just comes down to preference in the end.

Are you running a custom kernel? If you're still running the stock kernel, you won't have those settings no matter which app you use.
Yes I'm running a custom kernel but I thought there was a way to undervolt all frequencies at the same time. I tried Fku and it's possibile but I haven't got screen features yet, I will change kernel. Thank you!

You are right about that, there could be some different, added or lost settings on app to app and also kernel to kernel. But using two applications can interfere each other, if you don't want this, you should be carefull about apply settings on boot option. You should choose one application to enable set on boot option and not in other application. At the end your device will open even you set on boot option in 2 apps but valid settings while device is running depends on which app grants superSU right fisrt or second.
