Hey guys. I cam to the epic hopeing to see more roms and more exciting things. Instead, I saw a not really supported device. So I am going to begin to port other 2.1 roms so it could fill the gaps we have between getting froyo. So I need some start suggestions. My first port is going to be the Droid X rom 2.1. So if you guys want me to port other 2.1 roms, you would have to send me a ROM dump please.
Port Cyanogenmod.
Or make your own.
Do you have any idea what your doing?

Why don't you start by porting the gingerbread dump you linked that seems like a good start.

Dude he obviously has no idea wtf he is doing. He thought we could port the I9200 leak to the epic in a few minutes.... rofl.
Misspelling words are kinda key when developing. You don't want to misspell something and have it ruin your day with a device. He honestly doesn't know what he's doing. My only reason for the comment was due to the Gingerbread he wanted ported in 20 minutes. Go read that thread and you may agree with me then.

I realize that. I speak 2 languages myself. But I don't want him touching anything when commands need to be SPELLED CORRECTLY. He obviously struggles with simple words.

again tho, if he had come in and said hey my dad works for google i can get a leak of gingerbread for yall can someone help me, we woulda laughed but tried anyways.
instead a few weeks ago he joined heroc channel on fossnet and started pretending he was darchstar (one of our best devs) and he had a leak he was gunna work on with cm team to port it over. since then its spiraled into him being banned on fossnet and him evading it. now he is on the forum in another thread claiming there is a leak for gingerbread and demands that it is ported over, when i bust on him for being a fake he come in here and says he is gunna port a whole lot of roms for us we just need to supply the dumps....
again if he came here asking for tips on learning on how to start rom developing im sure he would have gottena lot of useful tips, instead he came in here like a fool and as such.... this is not an attack on him because of his age.. bubby323 has one rom out and is working on a sense port and he is under 18 (if he chooses to disclose his real age thats on him) but a matter of the mindset.

I'm 14. Oh, and I have 2 ROMs out.
Ok listen up. Frst of all, I am typing straight from my epic, give me a break on spelling. Secound, I am not going to be developing on my own, as you may all know about IncredibleDoes in the incredible forum, well he was nice enough to offer to help me step by step on my first rom port (Droid X). I am still waiting on a reply from him so give me some time. And third of al, all of you ar telling me to port this that are not 2.1 roms when in the thread I said specificly 2.1! So calm down guys. I'm only trying to help.
I have collected icons, walls, made some of my own stuff and compiled it all into a steampunk theme running on the 31-DEC release of Vanilla Froyo2.2 CM6.2.1.
First off I need to give credit to manup465 and tekrodriguez for the work they did in the other droid forums.
More Vintage, Less War by Manup465
Rusty Metal Theme by tekrodriguez
I don't know if anyone is interested in this... i did some modifications to a lot of the core app .apk's and it could possibly cause problems if you're running a different theme. I'm not going to post an theme.zip unless you let me know that you really want it. This was more to prove to myself I could pull it off. Let me know what y'all think!

Umm... there is a ridiculously huge thread devoted to the rom I'm running... it's over in the development section... i believe jaybob413 is the originator of the thread and it has had many, many updates. I believe it's still on page one of the development section... says Froyo2.2 right in the subject line.
to everyone else... I'm happy to make my wallpaper and icons available to you, but to theme your phone you'd have to manually change your framework-res.apk and the application .apk files yourselves. I'm sorry, but with a family and two jobs, I don't have that kind of time. I'll try to work on a zip file to make the image files available sometime soon.

Yes... it's ADW launcher. I'll post the images asap. Unfortunately, LauncherPro only allows you to change the images of the dockbar. ADW allows you to change the images of any non-widget on the desktop. However, in my mod, I actually took the time to change the framework-res.apk and the application .apk's so it shows up changed in the drawer as well. I just don't have time to do that for everyone. sorry!

I recently began getting interested in the steampunk subculture and I remember looking at this and thinking it is kind of nifty. So my questions are 1. Would anyone be willing to revive this theme and 2. If so would they be willing to meld it somehow with the Gingersense theme? I think it would look pretty amazing

Hi Sofia welcome,
I'll assume you got it brand new and is running a stock ROM. I would say that there is something running in the background that is slowing you down some. I'd take a look at which/how many apps you have, and maybe delete the ones you don't use anymore. Do you know if you're running 2.1 or 2.2?
What you'll mostly find here at XDA are folks that love to mod, well love might not be a strong enough word, we're OBSESSED. So what you will most assuredly get from people is "Try sun-in-such's ROM, it's the best!"
If you're into that, this is the place to play. Have fun!

You're probably better off not doing any mods then. Sorry if that sounds mean, but unless you're tech savvy to some minimal degree and comfortable with the idea of voiding your warranty and possibly bricking your phone, you're probably better off just leaving it stock.

Please don't be fooled into thinking this stuff is really easy. There are already a bunch of threads from people who tried to use CM7 and messed up their phones. Flashing isn't that hard, but it is also pretty easy to screw up. Settle for upgrading to stock Froyo and then read, read, read.

It's not hard, but it's easy to botch it if you don't know what you're doing. If you're going to try your hand at flashing a custom rom, make sure you read about and understand the process enough to where you don't have to make guesses and assumptions. Also, jumping straight to cm7 is a terrible idea - flashing cm7 is a lot more involved than flashing any of the other roms found in the dev section, and if you don't know what you're doing you'll almost certainly end up with some sort of brick.
Read through the stickied threads. They contain a lot of useful information, which is why they're at the top of each subforum. Fill in the knowledge gaps by searching. There's more than enough information in the Captivate forum alone, let alone all of XDA, to teach you how to do everything from some simple modifications to building your own custom firmware.

After reading threw the threads and seeing how many different ways the devs are naming the threads and file names. I thought it would be helpful to have a standardized thread\file name layout. This is only a suggestion but I do think it would be help to everyone if we could use this or something like it.
Just my two cents.

IMO 2+2 can only be 4. It's not that hard to figure out. I honestly don't care. Because if you don't understand it in the first place you shouldn't care what order it's in. Now if you understand what you are doing you shouldn't care either as you know what the hell you are looking at....

Trouble is, people who may not understand flash anyway. Seems to me that standardized labeling, at the very least, could take some of the devs time troubleshooting.

I'm not wanting to sound like a **** but at one point in time we were all noobs. This will help them and us. 1. it will make presenting all the info you need to know about a rom, kernel, theme, ect. all in a nice organized way easy to read easy to understand. 2. by having all that info in title and filename it will make it easy to find when searching for all of the above. This isn't something etched into stone it is just a suggestion. So far everyone seems to be on board but you. again that's just my 2 cents
Now that it seems that most of us on here think that this is a good idea. Let's see if the devs and themers can adopt the new labeling system.
Theres a big difference between a newb n someone who is too damn lazy to learn the basics. We've all made this stuff very easy to learn by all the write ups n guides so there is no excuse for not understanding. most of us always try to make sure to include the build, date, version and name so it's a non issue IMO. Anyone new to the scene should assimilate accordingly .

Stickied and noted.
What I also suggest, is that when you have a new version out, create a new thread. It will make searching SO much easier as the user won't have to wade through all the fixes and issues for version 1.21 when the version is now 3.2.
If you aren't a recognized developer, and thus can't close your own thread, PM me and I will close it after you've created the new one.
I´m new here & i would talk about my expirience with cm7:
1. Beautiful
2. Very fast
3. Apparently not compatible with BACKUP MASTER APP. The app was apparently instaled but doesn't appear anywhere.
