[Q] does someone uses kies? what for? - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hello, all
new owner of samsung galaxy tab 7.0 plus.
I find kies slow and with no purpose, as you can access the device directly to copy whatever (at least in windows). You can even update via wifi/3G, so, I'm just wandering: does someone uses kies? what for?
Cheers

nope... kies sucks to the max...

I personally don't find it slow, but I'm used to the rrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaaalllllllllyyyy slow nature of iTunes (don't ask, not my choice), even on my ridiculously over spec'd PC.
It works ok I guess, it strikes me as a bit of an iTunes ripoff in terms of basic functionality.
To the best of my knowledge - and bear in mind I've only been an owner for a months so am probably considered a newbie - one doesn't *have* to use it. You can search for firmware update from the tablet itself and as long as Windows recognises the device you can copy your music and videos over - although for reasons I have not yet established one put videos on the micro sd card.

Windows Phone doesn't support Flash. It supports H.264 like iOS (iPhone).

I don't have answers for all but I do for some.
#2 Yes, market place is preloaded. However unlocking the phone and sideloading is a nice feature to learn.
#3 Yes, explorer is fairly good. I have had some occasional lagg but on a scale of 1-10 I give a 8/10. I'm a firefox fan myself.
#4 I'm on the fence, granted I have had it only a week. I have the HTC-HD7, some things I don't like are that A. my carrier, Microsoft and HTC have worked very hard to keep me from tethering B. (and this is exclusively my fault) my phone is not 4G capable despite being "the lastest and greatest" C. WP7 is nothing like WM6.5, you can't natively browse your phone OS and system files. I don't like this because I frequently put valuable data on my previous phone (HTC Harold) for safe keeping.
Honestly? The OS is very nice, I am a windows phone fan. However because of the tethering issues I have (finally figured out how to do it just recently) I am considering invoking my buyers remorse and trading in for a HTC Sensation4G, because the phone is specifically designed for tethering. But like I said I have some specific issues and some of them are my fault for not doing my homework before buying.

[Q] Windows 8 on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

I know that they utilize different processors, but i didn't know if anyone has seen or heard of any one installing windows 8 on the Tab 2 10.1? I would love to set up my tablet to run both operating systems, but I haven't been able to find anyone with Windows 8 on their Tab yet... Does it sounds like something that might be possible in the future?
The only thing I know about is Launcher 7. Don't know how it would look on a tablet.

Looks like this is only available on phones... It won't allow me to install on the Tab 2 10.1, but I am gonna try it out on my phone, might be fun to play with. I am also going to try out the Splashtop Win8 Metro Testbed when I get home, looks like it could be a good alternative...

Since win8 is closed source, chances are no. If they somehow open it up then good chance yes.
Splashtop Windows 8 Testbed
OK, so I think I found something that will do the trick. Its called splashtop and it streams your windows 8 on a PC to your tablet. And quite well I might add. I haven't tried it via internet but via local network it works great... I really dig it... not to mention it finally forced me to play around with the new windows OS...
why
why we have windows when we have open stable updated android os?
Don't get me wrong, i love ICS, but I also wanted to test out the windows 8 touchscreen abilities without having to buy a windows tablet.
Hi there,
The app you're using in an RDP or VNC app, which will stream your login sessions to your android. You can try also LogMeIn, PocketCloud, etc. There's quite a bunch of those apps you can use. But its really not the same as having Windows 8 as the OS of your tablet.

WinRT8.1
Windows RT 8.1 is built for devices running ARM architecture the only problem is that you can only install it on devices that already has windows on it. So if you could figure out a way to install it on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet I'm pretty sure it would work.
You can't.

[Q] Run Ubuntu natively on Galaxy Note 10.1

Hi! I'm also looking for a native build of Ubuntu for the Galaxy Note 10.1 but what I wanna ask you is the performance of chroot. Are you able to type in LibreOffice without a lag? I'm one click away from ordering a device and I really need a full office suite for educational reasons (I'm a student).
What is more, my own hopes are about another way of getting better Ubuntu. The project you use (linux on android) aims to have native video output for some devices and it might be really better than a fully native Ubuntu. The GUI will be fast but at the same time Android will stay one click away with full support etc. What do you think?
hi there,
im a student too. my aim was to buy the TF300T at first. then when i went to the shop, the staff told me that the TF300T batch was full of returns because it was pretty sh**ty So i decided to buy the N8010 (Galaxy Note 10.1)
which is really better than the transformer because it has 2gb ram all the other cool features.like s pen and all that. i wanted to buy the transformer because it came with the keyboard dock which you can turn it into sorta netbook then i could take it to school or something. i was planning on installing ubuntu on it but ye.
so when i got this galaxy note 10.1, i rooted it and ran ubuntu like mentioned about. honestly, there is a slight lag but its not that extreme. only like milisecond(s) lag. *no other apps were running except for terminal emulator, vnc viewer and complete linux installer.
i think this is capable of doing more because literally ran a minecraft server in there LOL it loaded up pretty fast. but i havent connected into it and played yet. youtube video is working. which means it has flash support. my screen protector should arrive today so i can play around more with it. i'll load up ubuntu again. post some screen shots and maybe a video if u need one
the resources manages shows all four cores in the cpu and shows 1.8* of ram. which is good. and more than 1.2gb was available when i was running the office suite that was there.
Summary:
This is good for a start, im hoping to see developers start working on Galaxy Note 10.1 more and more. (i think its just this is still new cuz it only came out recently)
This device is really good for school. Snote app has so many features infact the device has 'samsung features' which i still havent touched on
Hoping to see some thirdparty keyboard docks for this since the samsung one is about 90-100 dollars (USD) i believe and about about 120-150dollars here in australia :/
I think the reason for the transformer pad to have native support cuz asus gave out the source code on their website ? *once i was in there website and it told me to choose the OS between android and other os*
which i belive u can install another os pretty much.
asus also had kinda a bios sorta menu when u boot it up.
hope that helps
if u wanna know anything else, simply reply

In the case of Transformers, ASUS had open-sourced the bootloader and it was capable of booting something different than Android from scratch. That's a different story for Samsung GN 10.1, but we have a chance for native build since Samsung is developing drivers for the Exynos platform and more or less the bootloader they have is open-sourced or cracked.
As for the OFFTOPIC about learning, thank you a lot for your reply! If you can post a video of LibreOffice typing experience, it would be nice but there are a lot on YouTube already and impression is more important than videos. Personally, I have used on other N-trig tablets LectureNotes (non-free app from market) and Quill(fully open-source) and I find them many times better than S Note.
BTW, once Canonical should release the Ubuntu for Android official project, m?
I think I'll buy one SGN and join you in the battle for better software
I made a video of it
hey,
I made a video of it last night... its in Full HD but dsnt have my voice.(has background music) im still getting used to making videos and putting it up on youtube :
I'll start uploading it now.. theres about 1.01GB so might take some hours to upload
I was watching that video on XDA TV, about Samsung hating XDA, apparently samsung limiting their source codes and all that...I dunno whats gonna happen
anyway wish this was like the asus transformer where you can run other os
we just have to hope for the best :fingers-crossed:
Yes im waiting till ubuntu releases the version for android ! i've seen their official video and its really awesome
Niceee when are you going to buy it ?
P.S. oh sh**t i'm sorry, it wasn't libre office it was open office since i had downloaded ubuntu 10.1 not 12
im pretty sure it would be the same experience with typing...

Have seen two guys with SGN in the tram on the way to university, so the popularity comes very fast to the device.

upload speed is like 0.40mbps (speedtest) and ye

May be it would be faster not to upload Full HD? Otherwise, you will be uploading 1 gig my whole life
dam, im sorry
its 41% and about 311 mins remaining..

Hello,
If you want to root the Stock ICS XSA for N8010, you will have to download the firmware from : http://www.hotfile.com/dl/177420056/592b6c1/N8010XWALI6_N8010XSAALI1_XSA.zip.html and root it your self.
I have attached the rooting files (thanks to zedomax ) and extract the files to a folder. and follow zedomax's instructions.
Hope this helps...
BUT this will not get rid of the Samsung user interface. If you want to get rid of the STOCK SAMSUNG STUFF, you will have to consider flashing CM10
I wrote a tutorial here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958621
thumbs up!
Great news for tablet owners. Ubuntu will support Nexus 7. So Tegra 3 devices first and maybe Exinox later...
I really hope Team Hacksung will jump into this and make out tablet the best device ever. It will be much better then any W8 RT device because of Ubuntu ARM repositories, lots and lots of app (Libre Office, Gimp, VLC..etc).
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7
Wow thanks for this info im looking forward for ubuntu to be come available on my galaxy note 10.1
Any update on this? That is a real shame no one ported Ubuntu to Note 10.1 when there is Ubuntu running even of Asus Transformer TF101. Lack of drivers?
I dont really know honestly. Its just maybe the devs arnt putting much attention to this... WHY ? i dont know. its a great device. better that transformer pad TF300T.... its new.. and 2gb ram and all that. can handle ubuntu very well i suppose. even the nexus 7 got native from Ubuntu officially.. comeon devs!!!

It would be better if there was a native distro of Ubuntu for this. Ubuntu running on top of android maybe laggy (with your requirements). I still dont understand why developers arnt looking into this If u have a good internet connection at home you can use Splashtop to stream your pc into the tablet. all the touch features work. Its free for local use but if u want to use it remotely (pc at home and tablet at workplace) theres a membership for it.

[Q] Versus Touchtab 10.1 DC info needed

Hi Gurus,
Does anyone have any information about the Versus touchtab 10.1 dual core with android 4.1? I have just ordered it and am waiting for delivery.
http://www.johnlewis.com/231888577/Product.aspx
It has a pretty decent spec including the RK3066 SoC and 1 GB ram with a IPS screen.
I was wondering if it is possible to root it or even better flash it with cyanogenmod??
I understand it is a generic Chinese tablet that has been rebranded as Versus and I think also CnM touchpad. Does anyone know the "master" tablet model number?
Thanks,
hopoffbaby
Hi,
Yea that'd be great. I really love the performance of this tablet for be the price but would love to get a custom rom on it. Have you noticed any issue with wifi when the screen has been off? Mine doesn't like to reconnect. I have to toggle airplane mode to get it connected again.
Thanks
Hey,
I just picked up the 10.1 touchtab from Maplins yesterday, I've also noticed the issue with the wifi not wanting (or taking a long time) to reconnect after the screen switches off, the wifi also seems to be considerably weaker than on my other devices!
Samuel
Hi,
I don't notice an issue with wifi strength and but it often won't reconnect. I have sent them an email regarding this so if they come back to me with a solution I'll be let you know.
Thanks
Thanks, do keep me updated!
Just incase anybody is interested, I'm 99% sure the CnM 10.1 touchtab is the same as the versus touchtab so some useful downloads can be found here: www_kmscomponents_com/cnmlifestyle/products/touchPad10DC.htm#down
(apologies as I cant yet post links)
Nexus 10
I think the best 10" tablet is the Nexus 10, and it's not bad prized i think you should consider that option.
Granted the nexus 10 is a nice tablet but it's twice the price of this tablet which I already have so don't think I'll be buying that. I already have a galaxy nexus phone which does me nicely.
Ideally would like to root this tablet or flash custom rom. If I don't manage to get the wifi working properly though it might have to go back.
Hi.
Great thanks for the files. Hope you u make some progress with rooting it. I don't really know how to manually root these things. I generally just use tools other brain boxes have written Lol. Would really like to get a ROM like cm on it though
What is the sort of processes you'd normally follow to root something with no tool available?
On another note I still haven't heard back about my WiFi issue however I notice if you go into the advanced WiFi settings you can set it to never release WiFi when the screen is off which seems to have fixed the issue so far.
Cheers.
Hi guys,
I just had a reply from Versus (CnM) stating that upgrading the firmware should solve the wifi issue. I'll give this a go tonight (hopefully the flash tool likes windows 8) and see what happens :fingers-crossed:

Quick Versus root tutorial
I just purchased (yesterday) a Versus 10.1 DC from Maplins to and want to use it as a media player when I go away. With so many films in MKV format being bigger than 4GB, the only way I could see films this big was to root it to be able to read NTFS drives.
I followed the same route to root (pun there ) as zoranuk [cheers for that] but started by follwing the guide to install the right drivers first as supplied by user154 [cheers for that too]
So here's what I did and it rooted 1st time:
Installed the correct drivers as per the Vesus Touchpad - USB Debugging Setup Guide.zip earlier in the thread by user154
I then looked at the link supplied by zoranuk
I downloaded the Chinese Android manager application as mentioned on the page above.
Now here's where it can become confusing as it is all in Chinese!
Do not connect Versus yet but have USB Debugging already selected on tablet
Run ZhuoDaShi on loading
it will bring up this window
View attachment 1796599
click where the arrow is pointing
that will bring up the next
View attachment 1796600
again onto
View attachment 1796601
now attach the usb, after a minute or so then click
View attachment 1796602
again click the link
View attachment 1796603
this will root your Versus
I am not taking any credit to this just putting it all in one place, and hopefully get others rooted
cheers
Ian

I carried out the firmware update on the 8DC and now it won't. It just gets stuck during the root process. So unless anyone has any other advice, give the new firmware a miss if you want to stay rooted.
On another note, has anyone had their ZhuoDaShi update to a new version with a new icon automatically? It also installs some other rubbish as well if you let it!

[Q] RCA 7" Android Tablet 4.1.1 root/rom/forum?

I bought an RCA 7" tablet as a manager's substitute for a Xelio which was out of stock at WalMart. Hey, $39 seems like a pretty good deal.
However, there is no mention of this device ANYWHERE, not on the WalMart website... apparently, not even the great Oracle Google has heard of this device. There are some obscure references to google play support. It is NOT the new RCA TV Tablet or the stereo one.
From the device:
1GHz processor
built in 4GB memory
WiFi b/g/n
Google Play Store
0.3 mp forward facing camera (woo hoo)
micro sd support up to 32G
Model number RCT6077W2
Android version 4.1.1 Jellybean
Kernel version 3.0.36+
[email protected]#129
Build number RCT6077W2-Android4.1.1-v1.0.1
I would love to figure out what else is hiding under the hood on this device.

I bought an RCA 7" tablet as a manager's substitute for a Xelio which was out of stock at WalMart. Hey, $39 seems like a pretty good deal.
However, there is no mention of this device ANYWHERE, not on the WalMart website... apparently, not even the great Oracle Google has heard of this device. There are some obscure references to google play support. It is NOT the new RCA TV Tablet or the stereo one.
From the device:
1GHz processor
built in 4GB memory
WiFi b/g/n
Google Play Store
0.3 mp forward facing camera (woo hoo)
micro sd support up to 32G
Model number RCT6077W2
Android version 4.1.1 Jellybean
Kernel version 3.0.36+
[email protected]#129
Build number RCT6077W2-Android4.1.1-v1.0.1
I would love to figure out what else is hiding under the hood on this device.

to find out about a little more under the hood you should take a look at CF Bench it will tell ya its secerts. as for tweaking im 99% sure that nobody will develop things for it. 40 bucks for a tablet has to have terrible specs, the best you can do is try to root it. try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 good luck mate
OK it's not the Apple of my eye but...

Thanks T'zul. Actually the tablet was $80 but I got it for $39 cuz the discontinued Xelio promised was out of stock when I got to Walmart.
I have not been able to locate drivers BECAUSE the tablet is only being released officially next week so I haven't been able to connect for root only to transfer music/photo files.
Yeah, I know that the specs (I listed them above in first post) are lower end but I thought it would be a good toy to learn on/destroy if I wasn't careful.

im sure if you root it you can most likely overclock it and stuff, cheap android tablets like these are always good to start on before you get the big boys that only last a year and then they are outdated. as for the drivers you can try adb and install the android drivers.
rooting help.

Microphone on RCA 7" rct6378w2 Issue
Sorry to change the subject a bit but I am in the correct company, since I have the same tablet bought from Walmart last Black Friday $49. I find the microphone performance very bad. A screeching sound (like feedback) and extremetly low volume on recording using voice recorder or Skype (echo test). Has anyone come accross this issue and got a suggested fix? The tablet is not going to be very functional for video conferencing with this issue. I though i would ask the forum before returning it.
Thanks
Ashok

I rooted my tablet (same tablet) as you instructed. What are you doing/using to move apps to the SD card? I'm using lucky patcher but it is not giving me the option to move to the SD card. The SD card is mounted. I'm not sure what to do and am getting very frustrated. Thank you in advance for your help
Please provide organized instructions for completely exploiting the RCA tablets
Hi I am new here, I got this tablet for christmas and this forum has helped me so much already, because of you wonderful people I have successfully rooted. However after continuing reading I am a little confused on what exactly to do now, can someone please go over unlocking the bootloader, getting clockworkmod recovery or whatever else I need, flashing cyanogenmod for the RCA tablet and any other steps I might not know of? How can I help and where are we all in completely exploiting the RCA tablets? (RCT6077W2 in specific for me) can I get regular drivers instead of that annoying pdanet? would it be possible to flash other ROM's like AOKP and paranoid android or would those lack in support? what do I have to do w/ the android sdk? what apps, launchers, root apps and exploits do you recommend with this device? how can we overclock and make the best out of this crappy device? any tips, cracks, modifications that make this device better? etc. I know it is a lot of questions but any awnsers and help is really appreciated and It would also be really nice if someone made a nice n00b friendly guide on what to do after rooting.

This absolutely a really good questions. As many people bought the 4 or 8GB versions with plans to expand to external SD card; I hope the moderators / seasoned android pros of this forum can provide a detailed explanation how to accomplish this task. Thanks in advance to all that offer some suggestions / solutions towards the SD card front.

I also thank you for the rooting steps. How can I now upgrade the jelly bean from 4.2.2 to 4.3? I have the same model tablet.
My Only Hope.
I thank you for your response, Jeffrie.* But unfortumately, it did not contain any new information for me.* I am beyond a factory reset. Wiping the data and dalvik cache was actually what killed the tablet after I had actually revived it by flashing the RCT6378W2 firmware to the RCT6077W2 tablet. And I only did that because after days of searching, the internet, the RCT6378W2 firmware was the only RCA tablet firmware to be found.* And at first it seemed like it might work, the only obvious issue was the tablet couldn't tell which way was down.* That was doable.* However after a reboot, the wireless functionality stopped completely.* Wireless couldn't even be switched on.* I could send you numerous links to numerous forums where there are several other consumers with the same issue. And as it stands most of those people feel ripped off and very skidish about purchasing any more RCA products.* I am confident, from the way the 8GB tablets firmware helped bring the 4GB one back from the dead,* that the actual RCT6077w2 4GB tablets original firmware ( 1.0.0) would revive several of your tablets as well as the customers satisfaction and faith in your company. And once they were up and connected to the internet, they wouldt be able to update using your OTA server. Word of your companies actually giving a damn and level of support would surely boost sales as well as bring former customers back.
I know how
I rooted my very own RCT6077W2 (same specs and everything) and got it from Wal-Mart. I know how. Download 4Shared from Play Store, create/login to an account, search up "master root", then click the first one and download it. Install it, then open. I know its in a diff language but click the middle button and then when the screen pops up with the buttons, press the one that is not red. Then again. Once the boxes are away, reboot your device and it is rooted. Congratz, you now have root access.
