I rooted my girlfriends phone but didn't realize her contacts weren't saved in her gmail account. I saved her internal/external data prior, is there any chance i can recover those contacts somehow?
I think you might have lost them. Why didn't you have the contacts sync on?

All is lost unless she synced with Google... why wouldn't anyone do that?
Google Syncing is one of the main reasons I started buying Android... Its ridiculous that you didn't sync them beforehand.

if you backed up with titanium backup, have you tried restoring contacts data?
Related
do most people restore system info and all apps of try start fresh and keep only best apps. also do most apps recharge you every month. the lady at att said charge me ninety a month but i can't believe ever bought that many and it shows my sister going over data but claim its Her number gets extra charges. seem right?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
No usually not a good idea to restorr system data. Also no unless you sign up for a monthly subscription. You are only charged one time for an app
i knew that. what about contacts or passwords. dont restore anything no system data? . i knew lady told it wrong. no way apps

Never restore system data.
And as stated, you only get charged one time for apps.

You should be using Google for your contacts or making backups in the contacts app.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
You also have the option of exporting your contacts to the sd card.
what about installing other phones or sms programs. do keep originals or best one and replace others
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
What do u mean by installing other phones? And when you download apps u can keep the origionals.
So i was running CM7 and sadly its gone so i cant get my apps onto an SD card or anything now... but now i am running paranoid android build 8 and when i downloaded my apps back it didnt save the progress example(on the game 100 floors im back to level 1) im on the same google account i had before and everything does anyone know why this happend? is it normal?

alright makes sense kinda suck, but im running paranoid android build 8 4.0.4 and when i go to settings>back up and reset it says Automatic restore "when reinstalling and app, restore backed up setting and data" does that mean now googles allowing backing up of app data?
No, just settings on the phone such as wifi access points, what your phone brightness/time out was set as, bookmarks for stock browser, and other various things, it just means data exclusive to Google Apps I believe

Yeah, the only thing they save about third party apps is the fact that you downloaded it
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Not entirely true. Whether third party app data get saved depends on whether the developer used Google backup transport api or not. And most developers haven't!

Oh makes sense noticed that was happening thanks

I'm not sure if this is a CM issue or the nexus s or JB, but it seems like my phone is only syncing every few hours. This includes texts and emails, which used to come almost instantaneously. I've checked to make sure all my Google services are syncing under settings, does anyone know why this issue might be occurring?

texts don't "sync". you're dealing w/ separate issues there..

Maybe some specifics would help.
So.....
Is it ur Google accounts under settings/Google that is not syncing as often as u want?
Or is it Google voice?
Is the issue with data or WiFi?
Ru using a stable or a nightly version? (Post this in the correct thread if u think its a ROM issue)
And if u want to backup ur SMS then try an app called "SMS backup+"
The more info, the better we can try to help
Vs Nexus S4G using tapatalk2

It's all of my Google services, and it seems to be just a data issue, but I rarely go onto Wi-Fi with my phone so I can't be too sure.
I'm running a nightly, but I searched through the CM thread and no one has my problem, and I have Sprint and sadly I trust CM more than them so I thought I'd try here first...
I use Google voice so I don't worry about backing up

Google for contacts, backup to Gmail for texts, mms, and call logs.

you can try using "SMS Backup & Restore" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en) to back up your SMS. I've been using this and it's been doing the job so far.
ok thanks all
so i just flashed in cm9.1 then ultragen1.1 and its beautiful, but for some reason i can import my contacts from the sim card, now did i do something wrong or is this just a known issue? i didnt see it in the bug logs for either rom some im assuming i screwed something up

i had thought that they were but for some reason they werent, it synced a bunch of way older contacts off google, most of which are useless or obsolete, but i know all the contacts are backed up to my tmobile account and on the sim card, neaither of which seem to be syncing in this case, though i can understang the tmobile part not syncing since the app isnt there anymore lol, i just dont understand why i cant import my contacts from the sim. when i go to an old backup phone it says theyre on there, but on the sgs4g with ultragen its telling me there arent any on the sim
im just gonna transfer my contacts the old fasion way, lol but im gona keep an eye on this thread to see if anyone can tell me what the probelm is if for nothing else but to make sure it can be fixed or not

I had the exact same problem the first time I flashed CM9. My contacts weren't synced to Google. I looked into the problem when it happened to me. I went back to stock and synced them and re-flashed. Problem solved.
