I flashed Virtuous Inquisition ROM with my SIM card out. For some reason, I have lost my contacts because when I select "Import contacts from SIM card" it results in "No contacts on your SIM card" which is strange because I know I had contacts on there and I never deleted them myself.
if you have the contacts on the sim card you can reimport in the phone app. if not they can be reaquired by synching with a gmail account if you have done that its a good way to keep contacts while flashing roms. lastly you can restore them if you use titanium backup. if none of these are an option you'll most likely have to re-enter them all manually.
My contacts automatically sync with my Google Account, so whenever I flash a new ROM the device redownloads them from Google servers. I have never had my contacts on my SIM card, ever, but I suppose you can choose to keep them there
For me, I use Titanium backup, It save and backup calendar, contact, apps etc ...

Before you write "ActiveSync" read the following:
When setting up ActiveSync i checked contacts by mistake, so all my phone contacts were copied to outlook. When I tried to uncheck contacts from sync options, it said "all your contacts will be deleted from phone" so i clicked cancel and decided to delete device from ActiveSync and setup new partnership without contacts instead.
The problem is that the phone deleted all the contacts anyway after first sync with the fresh ActiveSync partnership!! And worst, when syncing with microsoft myphone, it deleted them from there as well!!!
So now the all my contacts are in outlook (where i didn't want them to be in the first place).
What i want to do is transfer them back to the phone but without synchronization otherwise i'll be back to square 1 and as soon as i delete that partnership they'll be gone!
I found a workaround:
1) create sync partnership with active sync including contacts
2) sync contacts back to phone
3) PIM Backup contacts
4) remove contacts from ActiveSync sync options (which will indeed delete all contacts from phone)
5) restore backed up contacts with PIM
Hi,
I have around 7 contacts with padlock symbols that I cant remove from my SIM card. I dont want to hide them, I wish to delete these contacts. However in the sim manager, the delete option is greyed out for each one of the contacts.
Has anyone got any other ideas how to delete them?
I've tried deleting the pim.vol file ... which makes these contacts disapear, but rebooting the phone they re-appear. I've also put the sim in on a non MS phone and cant see the contacts on their. Anyone got any ideas?

i imported my contacts to memory card then rooted and installed open recovery then flashed cyanogenmod now when i restored my contacts the are all ??????
the numbers are there but the names are all question marks
i reverted back to 2.1 and rested my contacts again but it's the same plz help me

it is easier to SYNC to your Gmail account
just use WiFi to prevent any data charges
the problem is i don't have my contacts on gmail this is the only backup i have plz help
from the phone, in the Dial App, you can select the option to Sync to your Gmail account

Save all yours contact on sd card or phone storage ( go to people hit menu button and chose menage contacts, after that chose import/export contacts and export to sd-card or phone storage. On end of this tread you will need to chose import contacts because you will need you .
When you copied all contact to phone storage (auto sync is enabled) go to people and delete all contacts. You will shortly recive in status bar sync error. Pull down noticifation bar and hit sync error icon, chose delete all contacts and wait about 15-30min because google erase all contacts wrom g.acounts. After that just put back saved contacts from sd-card or phone storage( Import contacts from people-menage contacts-export/import contacts)

Im using Sensation XE, stock ICS.
i have synced to google, facebook, ubersync and whatsapp. but in People app, i've set to view only the google contacts. i have a few contacts in SIM as well as in Google. so the problem is.. every once in a while, the Messages app mixes up with name spelling between the Google and SIM contacts, and the pictures wont show. and then some times, it works just fine. some times it goes away if i restart my phone, sometimes restarting doesnt make any difference.
i want to see the pictures of the people in SIM, because frankly speaking these are the people with whom i communicate most with thru messages.
and no, i wont delete my SIM contacts, because sometimes i need to change my phone, so i need some important contacts with me in SIM
